Actually, according to my local EB, you can now ONLY order the 'Limited Edition' if you preorder. And it's the exact same price as the normal game.
Make of it what you will.

I make of it a suspicious turn of events establishing a unflattering trend in EB's Preorder practices

It looks like all preorders will get the limited edition. Here's Bioware's page announcing it.

So if I preorder from anywhere I'll get the LE?
Looks like I'm cancelling eB an going to OVerstock. 42 bucks!

So if all preorders are getting it, does that mean they are just going to make the whole initial batch that version?
Either way, I can't believe they include special content that can only be gotten through preordering. That kind of thing pisses me off.

If you don't, you still get the full game - I seriously doubt anything they included with the LE will significantly affect gameplay.

Looks like I'm cancelling eB an going to OVerstock. 42 bucks! Unless it says specifically that it is the LE, I doubt that it is the LE. If it doesn't say that it's the LE, you'll probably wind up with the regular version. Also, from the BioWare page, it sounds like you have to request the LE version, even if it is the same price. Store practices may differ.

I seriously doubt anything they included with the LE will significantly affect gameplay. You mean like another playable character? Or an additional fighting style? Yeah, that doesn't affect gameplay at all...

Yeah, that doesn't affect gameplay at all... From what I understand, the extra playable character really does have no effect on gameplay - it's basically an extra character model. It's hard to tell what impact the additional martial arts style will have - there are already a lot of them in the game.

You pay more money and run a higher chance of getting a bad game.

i probably won't preorder Jade Empire, only because i have to see how much you have to play through before you get a weapon (if it's long, that's the end of me!)
ChrisGwinn - why do you increase your risk of a bad game when you preorder? is it because they're all first run or something?

I think he's referring to not seeing any sort of reviews and so forth before putting down money on a game. Sure previews can glow about a game, but the end result and review can be quite different than what a preview says

I have never preordered a game in my non-short life. I can't see committing to spend full price on a game when most games drop in price fairly quickly.
But I'm tempted to preorder this one. Curse you, CG Forum Effect!

I am so tempted to preorder this but I can't decide if I should just wait for it to come out on the PC. It seems like a gamepad would be a good thing to have for this game and that is something I do not have for my 'puter. Any thoughts on this?

There hasn't ever been any official word of this coming to the PC. It doesn't seem like the controls would work that well for the PC, but that's me.

Well, I did it: I've never preordered a game in my gaming lifetime, but I preordered Jade Empire today. Thanks to the EB "Credit + $10 for 2" trade in deal I didn't actually have to lay out any cash out of pocket, so it was that much easier. This will be the first time I've bought a game on release day and at release price since... I can't even remember when.

ChrisGwinn - why do you increase your risk of a bad game when you preorder? is it because they're all first run or something? The last preview I read said that they had a weapon and several styles within an hour. You increase your risk of a bad game when you preorder because you have less information on whether the game is good or not. Very few games look bad in previews.

I've only ever pre ordered one game: Ninja Gaiden. It was a masterpiece.
Bioware is developing JE so if they borrow heavily from the KOTOR formula (which it seems they are) then this game is going to be a big fat hit and play like a dream.
That said, I rarely buy into ANY pre game hype, but bioware's track record and my experience with their previous products leads me to believe this is a safe bet.
I'm still searching for preorder deals as I think this will be only the 2nd game i've payed full price for in some 40 purchases...
