Comixology and Marvel.com has 700 different Marvel series issues up for free until Tuesday night. These are all issues #1 of various Marvel series.

I haven't seen a free sale like this before on that site - it's kinda crazy. So if you're just curious about comics or are looking to check out the start of variousseries this is a great way to do it for no cost. If you have a tablet I would highly reccomend the Comixology app which is just fantastic.

Just a warning the site was pretty slow as I can image its getting hammered.

FYI use the app if you are having problems with the site via the browser. The browser site kept timing out. With the app I was able to "purchase" issues - 183 total. It was still a bit slow with grabbing some issues but worked out well. I was not able to download any issues. They just timed out. I imagine once the sale is over download would be reliable again.

Crazy sale though. I wonder if this is in response to the Marvel Unlimited app that just came out. Kinda takes the piss out of it.

Updated the heading to reflect Marvel.com is also running this event, and its 2-days.

Comixology looks to be slowly coming back as I'm able to get the site via the web browser but can't log in there. Also can't download any of the issues via the app yet but can add the issues fine. Comixology Twitter page says they have Top Men working on their site issues....Top Men.

Thanks!  I'm just clicking on all the FREE buttons in sight.  They're not downloading as they must be getting slammed, but I'm hoping I can just download them later.

Looks like Comixology isn't able to meet demand yet and have temporarily paused the sale while they fix things. Can read about it here.

Just read up on this.  Some reviews were complaining that there were limited numbers of issues per run, that they were limited to keeping 6 on your iPad at once for offline reading, etc..

I looked around their available issues, decided that there were so many damn comics available that I'd never even heard about that 59.99 a year was a bargain and promptly subscribed at the annual level.  icon_biggrin

It looks like the app is a bit buggy so far in finding some issues. However, you can use the web portal to add comics to your library and then you have easy access through the app that way.

I figured you would have to have internet access at all times, so I thought the limited offline access was a bonus.

I had used it in the past so I was aware not every single issue was up there, but I have read so few comics it's fine for me. Right now I am reading Uncanny X-Men from the mid-70's relaunch so I can read the Dark Phoenix Saga.

I jumped into the Avengers reboot from 2010 and the Nova series from around the same time.  Both appear to be complete runs.  That alone was worth 60 bucks, imho.

I ended up getting the Marvel Unlimited app too to revist some of those old comics I hadn't read in forever and check out some of the new stuff. The app really needs work though it's pretty clunky. You should be able to search/add comics to your library from the comics cover page. Instead you have to click on the comic, then choose add to library, then click Done to go back. When you want to add a bunch of comics, particularly in a series, that can become real tiresome. And for Series events there should just be an "add all to library" button rather than having to go through the adding process 6-12 times.

Also this seems like a bug but the only way I could get the full comic in offline mode was to first read the comic while connected, then go back in to the comic and choose Offline mode. If I chose offline mode before reading the comic and then selected the download button it would only download a 3-page preview.

They need to add swipe navigation to the app without having those large transparent navigation controls appear on the screen. They overlap the comic and the only way to remove them is to tap on the screen again - so basically each time you navigate to the page you want you have to double-tap the screen.

So it's pretty clunky in parts making the experience more difficult that it needs to be to get/read comics but for $60 its still fine for my needs. Hopefully they'll improve the experience as they go along.

What Crawley said.  Seriously, you hit every single complaint I have about it...and reached the same conclusion as I that it's still worth 60 bucks.   icon_wink

Looks like they're going to give this sale a second attempt for tomorrow. You can sign up for it here: https://promo.marvel.com/

This is pretty much the best way to check out a lot of comics from their start without paying anything in to it. Here's a few reccomendations of stuff I actually read:

Runnaways Vol 1 - #1
Ruse #1
Exiles Vol 1 - #1

Three fun reads where you don't need to know much of anything about the Marvel Universe of today to enjoy - which is where I was.
