I was literally just about to purchase Clear Sky for 29.99 off their site when I saw this thread.  Thanks!

already this week I've bought men of war and kings bounty off gamersgate.  they're trying to usurp steams role as my bankruptcy source.

So will that be $14.99 then? If so, I may finally take the plunge on that one.

1. Not sure as they just revamped their site. Subscribing to the newsletter is one way. Ah, there's a 'News' section on the RHS down near the bottom. Or here.

2. There is a 'Reviews' tab on each game's page.

Thank you. But I still cant find a review button. Even using the browser's FIND ability it does not show up. Ive even created an account and logged in.

Ah it seems a lot of games have star ratings but not reviews. After  looking through many games I finally found one with reviews. Doh.

Even though I already have a hard copy of WiC, I sprung for this one. Will probably do the same for SotS.

Yeah, I bought the stalker sequel last night, then turned around and bought WiC two minutes later.   icon_lol  I have the first WiC but I can't find the dang serial number for it.  I figure for less than the cost of the expansion, I get that and the second game.  But dang, 7.9 gig?  Plus, somewhere between my comcast connection and the gamersgate servers, there must be some conflict as the connection is spotty at best.  I have to check the download every few hours to make sure it hasn't paused the download, requiring me to hit the UNPAUSE button.   icon_confused

so far this week i've bought king's bounty, men of war, stalker: clear sky and WiC.  I know I'll get the SotS if it's the ultimate edition as well.  these sales are gonna be the death of me!

I can't believe I never bought World in Conflict before now!

As for SotS, the reviews for the first game are so-so at best.  Why should I be interested (though getting a complete collection, if it's Ultimate, has me interested)?  I have to say, my attention tends to fall off quickly in 4X games.  Is SotS better, somehow?

We were talking about World in Conflict.

Can someone tell me about Sword of the Stars, though, and why it's great?

I'll wait and see if GG does the Ultimate version and which is cheaper, but even then, I'm not sure it'll be for me.

I encountered a bug in WiC in about the 12 mission that would not let me continue. Haven't reinstalled it again yet. that was last year.

it is now 8:04 and I am only at 32%.  I came back from doing yard work to find there was an error that caused the download to pause.  If I'm lucky i'll be able to play tomorrow after work.

I've had that error twice.  I'm still at 73% with about 4 hours to go, according to the bar.

I got another error in the middle of the night, so I had a gig left to go this morning.  That last gig went surprisingly fast, though (under 10 min) and now it's installed!  Not that I'll get to play today, really...

Sword of the Stars Ultimate is $15 today, as predicted.  It's very tempting, but I went through this same temptation with a Galactic Civ II collection, and I think I played that game for a half an hour.  And I bought Space Rangers 2 complete, but it was just a little too dated.  I don't know why I get tempted by these 4x games, but I do.  For this one, I really like the name of the AMoC expansion.  icon_confused But I also liked Homeworld and I love King's Bounty, so I'm tempted once again.  Any input?

There's been some talk here, but a bunch of discussions over at OO. Search seems to be brokey over there, only could find a couple:

I looked through the thread here a bit, but there was little talk about what makes the game work.  The first game got only so-so reviews.  Part of the reason for that is the reduced diplomacy, but that's actually a plus for me.  The expansions seem to add that stuff in.  I guess I'm wondering if SotS would hold my interest.  Is there a story, is the exploration stuff bogged down, etc.

EDIT:  The first OO thread seems to be more of what I was looking for.  Sounds like this isn't for me.  Thanks, MF.

got another error too last night.  I set it to download and when I got home I found there was another error in the download.  It is at 69.5% and it is 4:14 pm.

24 hours later I am still not done downloading...this service is horrible but the price is right.

Next time, after the install when it asks if you want to keep or delete the 'temporary' files, tell it to keep them. They are what you can reinstall the game from or burn to media and save all that downloading again. Unless you're saying that was all that was downloaded?

I'll let you know when it finishes downloading next week (I'm at 64% aftern nearly 10 hours of downloading).  I thought about saving the files, but I didn't want something that massive cluttering up my hard drive.  I have a hunch something went wrong, not that it didn't download.

Gah. Already got a few steam things today (monster truck nitro, arx fatalis and freedom fighter pack). At least that was only $16.

Since Clear Sky is $15 and everywhere else its been stuck at $30 forever I went ahead and got it. Also got some other bargain binners (Chrome and Rogue Trooper for $15) to bump my day's total to a regular new game prices of $50. Never used gamersgate before. Seems to work well so far.

If I remember correctly, Soviet Assault wasn't a stand alone expansion.  It just added the Soviet missions interwoven into the main campaign.  So if Soviet Assault runs, you have the full game.

I grabbed WiC last night and had the same confusion at first.  Due to the way Gametegate does things I grabbed the purchase order last week and was able to use it to get the at the sale price. Even though it was over.
