Hurray!

Was looking for a cheap way to get EGM.  Haven't read CGW in a long time but figure I'd give it a shot.  Not really interested in OPM but I'm sure the students will enjoy the pretty pictures of PS3 games their parents refuse to buy.

Excuse my ignorance....but why are these offered?

When I see stuff like this, I always wonder if they're using our info for some evil purpose  Tongue

Then again, i've been known to be a bit too paranoid at times also

Is EGM a good general gaming mag?

I'd like to get the playstation one, but I figure it's one sided like OXM.

Don't care about cgw.

Thoughts?

I've found EGM to be one of the better (best?) console only magazines. Their reviews aren't as in-depth as I'd like and their humor is pretty sophmoric at times (par for the course, I suppose), but they usually have decent previews and info on games often before any of the other magazines.

As for why all these magazines are free, I've always understood that the magazines make a good bit of their money from adverstisers. And the higher subscriber base, the more adverstisers will want to, uh, adverstise in that magazine.

Sweet!

Mine was Mike Hunt, Leader of Mike Co. Couldn't think of anything funnier at the moment. biggrin

And as far as EGM's quality goes - back in the day, it wasn't that impressive. The internet is always faster, as they say. But when it costs nothing, it makes for perfect bathroom reading material. biggrin

What's the mag that has the reviews where 3 people chime in with their opinion on one game?  I think it's EGM, the format is terrible.  CGW is really good, and they don't seem too sophmoric.

Yep that's EGM.  They devote 1-2 paragraphs per game typically.  Of course they have 3-4 reviews per game but they're hardly in-depth.

Got my first issue of EGM yesterday.  I stopped counting when I hit 3 regarding # of masturbation references.

The layout is way too busy, the writing juvenile and the content meh.

This magazine is pure garabage.

I'll be cancelling first thing Monday morning.

I got my copy of OPM this week. I was shocked, shocked I tell you!, that the magazine comes with a demo DVD. Of all the free magazines I get, OPM is the only one that included a DVD (some of the others offer them, but only for a higher subscription cost). Thanks KD!

I forget whether it was one of the 'tag along' deals from an EGM subscription (which I never received) or what... but besides the computer game subscription, I was paying $10 for a year of Popular Mechanics... which I still haven't received.

Just an FYI.

Got my first copy of EGM today.  I haven't opened it, but you can't beat free.  Although the comments above make me wonder if it is even worth the trip to the mailbox.

I got both OPM and EGM this last week. The second best part about it is they shipped me the last two months for each.
