I saw this on another forum. If you come across a bargain, post away. World War Z by Max Brooks is $5 right now Gardens of the Moon by Steven Erikson is $2.99

Hmmm...I already own this in paperback, but for that price, I might buy it again just for the convenience factor. I really loved that book! -Autistic Angel

That's exactly why I bought a kindle version. I got a signed one at zombcon last year but prefer to keep it on the shelf. He was a really cool guy.

just curious but dont we have a seperate forum for deal threads? when it gets moved you may want to try to get it stickied. I started a similar nookbook thread in steals and deals and it was soon buried. edited to add that it may be a good idea to make the thread a general e-book deal thread instead of Kindle specific. just a thought.

Oh crap. I didn't even think about putting it here. Duh. Best Served Cold by Joe Abercrombie is down to $2.99. I think I paid 12 or 13 bucks when it came out.

thanks for the heads up on World War z, definitely going to grab that. I grabbed Gardens of the Moon at that price a few days ago. I did see they have this one called The hangman's Daughter for $3.99. It's historical fiction that caught my eye, has anyone read it?

The Hangman's Daughter was an excellent read. It's a great mystery and a really interesting look at life in 1600's Germany.

So I went looking for a particular book yesterday, and while I didn't find any deals on it, I did find there there seems to be a lot of sites that claim to have a lot of free ebooks for download. For most of them I really don't have a lot of hope that they are completely legal, but was wondering if this thread would be a good place to discuss them. The one that I know is completely legal is http://www.gutenberg.org/wiki/Main_Page which releases ebook forms of out of copyright books.

I've mentioned this one in the Kindle thread hidden someplace around here, but the site I use the most for public domain books is http://www.feedbooks.com/ - they have a nice collection, and contains books that are either out of copyright, or the author has made the book free ( probably to establish a name for themselves ). They've only just starting offering books for sale too, but I haven't attempted that part of their service.

For those of you who are interested in Terry Brooks fantasies, B&N has The Sword of Shannara and The Elfstones of Shannarra combined for $6.15 I read these years ago in paperback but at that price figured e-book copies would be nice for a re-read sometime.

ditto at Amazon. it's cheaper to get those two and then Wishsong than to by the 3 in 1 volume.

For those of you who are interested in getting in on the free Amazon books but have a different e-reader, you can download the kindle books for pc and then using Calibre (with certain plugins installed) simply add the books and Calibre will remove the DRM. I just figured this out.

Hey, thanks for checking it out. There is a lot more on the way soon. Hopefully the full novel will be out by the end of the year. It is 3 times longer clocking in around 110K words, or about 270 pages. I hear ya on the zombie thing. I told my agent that if I am still writing zombie books in 10 years please shoot me.

Kobo has an unlimited use 30% off coupon good until Feb 27th. Note that the use is unlimited-not the book selection. It might not be available for some publishers. The code is: feb25ww30

I will probably have to pull the book from Amazon by the end of the week, or next week at the latest. By the end of the year the full book should be out. It will also be on Audible in the near future! woot!

I have calibre but Im not too sure on what plug ins youre talking about. Ive seen some on the web but have been unsure as to how safe they are to download as the sites for them seem sketchy. I hate the whole drm thing on books it restricts what you can purchase and sets up kind of a monopoly based on the device you purchase. That in turn unfairly restricts free trade as youre forced to purchase from a specific source, hindering competition.

Yeah that does suck a bit. In Amazon's defense it seems that the prices on e-books are mostly controlled by the publisher. I will also point out that the cost savings of physical vs digital is not as much as you would think. Add in the many benefits of digital books and I have no problem with e-book prices being in line with physical books. It is bull when they start costing more though. Thought Id add to the actual thread topic with this tidbit. Brent Weeks Night Angel Trilogy is available as a digital set. I picked it up in epub format from Borders ( I had a gift card to use ) for $19.99 not a huge saving over the individual books, about $4 or so but Ive read most of the first 2 books and they are quite good so if youre looking for a good fantasy read, you might want to check this out.

Had to dig deep for this thread. Mods can you sticky this thing?
Just wanted to give a heads up to Nook owners who are Star Wars fans, the very best books in the Star Wars mythos, Timothy Zahn's Thrawn Trilogy are coming to the Nook this June. They are standard priced at $7.99 per book but they havent been available prior to this. I also check on Kindle and they are being release there as well, same price. If Lucas had buried his ego and made these three books into his next Star Wars movies, instead of his dreadful prequels, he would be universally revered instead of reviled these days.

They're both "decent" as you said. The sequel is about as good but doesn't quite stand out either. Some good characters and there was enough mystery for me to easily hang with it to see where it went.
Can't go wrong with the first one for $2.
