A 350 dollar computer...with a 17" flat panel.  My God, I cannot believe how cheap these have gotten!

while it isn't as cheap as that $350 desktop, i ordered a laptop from Dell two days ago and got a heck of a good deal...getting an Inspiron 6400 for 40% off the regular price.  when it arrives, i'll have a brand new 15.4" Core Duo-based system that lists for $1775...but i'm only paying $1065.  it was too good of a deal to pass up Cool

They wont ship to Canada and on the Canadian site they have the same computers on sale, but the prices are about $200 more(Not because of the currency, right now every 100 Canadian dollars converts to 111 US Dollars.

They are asking $349 for the 1100

and here they want $599 and thats with only 512mb's of RAM, but the rest of the stuff is the same.

I wish I lived in the US for like a week, so I could buy one of these then move back smile . Damn .

You could always use my address.  I can just ship it to you from here.

BTW, I found a buried link to media center PCs.

The e510 is has some trade offs compared to the Desktop Deals, I'm going to order one now.  The MCE version comes with MCE2005 (obviously), a better monitor (both are 19"), but unfortunately a smaller HD and less RAM.

The less RAM is a mixed blessing though, IMO- the PC has an 800mhz FSB, but only 533mhz RAM.  So, since I'll be replacing the RAM, I could care less.  But having the bigger HD would have been nice.

[edit] wow, never mind.  They totally changed the Desktop Deals.  Now the DD has the same monitor as the MCE, and is also $200 cheaper, and comes with MCE2005 as an option.

Here is the link to the deals with MCE2005.

I just ordered up my 'new TV'  Cool  The funny thing is that my spare computer is going to be faster than my main computer.

I have to go order the Hauppage card, hopefully they get here around the same time!

Now I just need a good deal on a Wide-Screen flat monitor.  It's so easy to find deals when you aren't in a hurry.

Aw thanks for the offer, but I'll just wait.

Waiting is fun you know, in the mean time I can watch great deals fly buy until they decide to put the Canadians up for sale.

I could always email them and maybe talk them into giving me the same price for the Canadians, considering its within the same company. Which I just find weird.

Kinda weird that the 9150 has the same specs as the 5150 with a smaller monitor but costs $100 more.

Woohoo!

It arrived today, which was pretty darn quick: I ordered it Sunday night.

I went with the:
Quote
Dimension E510
Pentium D 820 w/ Dual Core 2.80GHz, 800FSB
Windows XP Media Center 2005 Edition
ATI Radeon X600 SE HyperMemory 256MB PCI Express x16
80GB Serial ATA Hard Drive (7200RPM) w/DataBurst Cache
16X CD/DVD burner (DVD+/-RW) w/double layer write capability
Integrated 7.1 Channel Audio

19 inch Ultrasharp™ 1907FP Digital Flat Panel

With, of course, the re-installation CD for XP-MCE.

After everything, it's a biscuit away from $700 (free shipping too!).  Wish I would have ordered my TV tuner card Sunday night, too.  I just ordered it a few minutes ago (Hauppauge 500).

I'll try it out.  Maybe I'll throw in some 800mhz ram in a while, if it needs it.  I'm not planning on using it as my main PC, so at the moment it's might be good.

I was telling everyone I know about that $350 computer with the 17" flat panel.  That's just plain insane!

i ordered a laptop from them last thursday...ship date was listed as 5/5, but it was listed as on its way via UPS sunday.  i was supposed to get free 3-5 day ground shipping, but thanks to a little mix-up by Dell it was sent Next Day for free and showed up today.  pretty darn quick Cool

unfortunately, i've had to spend the last hour deleting all the extra crap software that Dell installs on all their systems now.  almost done...

*smirk*  My credit right now is decent.  I pay off all my bills, et al.  It's what happened 4-5 years ago that is causing my issues.  I've got an auto loan right now and everything. biggrin

I'll get a new PC eventually, tho.

probably the first thing I'm going to do is drop in the XP-MCE cd and just install it myself.

i ordered mine through their 'Small Business' division and wound up with XP Home, and i'm planning to do the same thing soon.  as soon as i have the time to mess with it, i'll be wiping the whole system, repartitioning the HD, and installing XP Pro.  not only will it give me a clean install, but repartitioning will get me back the 4GB of my HD that is currently wasted on Dell's "System Restore" backup of their original sloppy install.  the only thing standing in my way is figuring out how to keep the Media Direct capability so i can still play music without having to boot into Windows...neat little feature.

for what it's worth, i'm making this post with my new laptop while sitting on my couch...pretty cool Cool

got my wife's system today and earned some major brownie points from her!

she's not a gamer, so just having a nice system she doesnt have to share with me was awesome for her.  not to mention her own burner now and of course the cool flat screen.

super deal.

Which system did you go with?

Especially for people who still havent gotten a computer, that $350 deal is just amazing.  It's like getting a flat screen, and they throw in a free computer.

Got the 1100.

And ya, that was my comments too about buying a flat screen and getting a computer.

I played with the computer some last night.  I'm floored by how quiet it is... the only noise I ever heard from it so far was hard drive access.  I'm thinking this is going to be a great Media Center PC!

I just used it out of the box, but all the extra programs seem to be slowing it down.  I'll probably drop disk when I get home... but I would lose McAfee VirusScan (I uninstalled all the other McAfee garbage)...  decisions decisions.  Oh well, there are about ten more things I can uninstall, I'll see if that helps any.

Hmm... looks like I was wrong about a few things regarding Dell (pleasantly wrong, I should add).

1. They included 533mhz RAM, which is actually BETTER than required by the FSB.  I forgot Intel doubles their FSB, so an 800mhz bus is really 2x400mhz.
2. I can use their driver/utility disk to reinstall any of the provided apps, if I want.  So when I reinstall, I can choose to just reinstall McAfee VirusScan without any of the other apps I won't use (some of them are actually kind of nice, like JASC Paint Shop, but I won't use it).

Damn it, I just found out the place I work has an affiliate program with Dell.  That means we get some nice discounts.

I was poking around the customization page, and there were a few differences... I made a system exactly like what I got to see the discount.  Well, the price was about the same, but the system had a slightly different processor (P4 3.0gb), and a larger (160 instead of 80).

The huge difference, however, was in how cheap the add-ons were by comparison.  I would have ordered a ton of the extra stuff had it been this cheap!  An extra 512 RAM was only $30, the remote was only $17 (moot point since I already ordered one elsewhere, but it would have been nice), a 250GB drive for about $30 more, and so on.

I'm calling them tomorrow to see if I can return it.  The different system ordered through work would be about $200 more, but it would have SO much more stuff.

Blah, there always has to be a problem!

BTW:  I have an opinion to ask you guys.  Would you go with a 20" monitor over a 19" for $100 more?  I'm kind of leaning that way.
W/O the discount it was $150 more, but dropping that $50 sure makes it a better deal to me.

Actually, I was thinking about it more, and all the extras aren't really worth it for me, especially when I started thinking about boxing everything back up and shipping it back.  The stuff added up about $280 more (pre-discount, so I think it would have been about $200).  Plus, I think a Pentium D is better than a P4, so it's all good.

I'll live without the stuff.  I do think the bigger screen for $100 more is a good deal, but it's a moot point.  I'll figure out other things to spend the money on...

like a widescreen LCDs for the media center!  My Hauppauge card came in today!  Woohoo!
