Ripped from Anandtech:

Quote
Dell has a $500 off $1499 Dimension Desktop systems, which is good thru 10/25, 11pm CST.

Get the cutting edge Dimension 8400 with the following configuration:

Pentium-4 3GHz HT
1GB DDR2 RAM
160GB SATA HDD
16x Dual Layer DVD+/-RW Drive
Radeon X800 SE 128MB PCI-E
FREE 19" E193FP LCD Upgrade!

Your final price with the configuration is: $1538 - $500 = $1038. Free shipping and no sales tax for most.

So.... that's $1000 WITH a 19" LCD, AND an x800 video card! awesome deal!

Holy cow. It's worth it just for the 19' LCD practically.

The rest of the stuff is just the icing on the cake.

I could always use a second PC... biggrin

Man, it's driving me crazy trying to price a competitive system.... it's really hard to do! And getting it in a nice package...boy is this tempting.

Hmmm.  Why are they charging me sales tax all of a sudden?  I live in Michigan for what that's worth.

No idea on the sales tax, though they socked me with it too.

I couldn't resist, so I caved and got a system as above but I bumped the CPU to 3.2, and added the cheap-o speakers that hang from the monitor. Final price including tax was just a hair under $1300. As much as I was psyched to build a machine, this deal was just too good to pass up.

I'm seriously considering this deal, but is the 19 inch LCD monitor good enough for quality gaming?  I would only use this rig for gaming.

Easy, the Dell Kiosks that are popping up in malls are subjecting Dell customers to tax in states that have the kiosks.

If it's as good as their 20", it's awesome.

I won't say they are fast at Dell but I ordered a system last night around 10:30 PM and as of 6:30 PM the next day it's... SHIPPED! I am even seeing UPS tracking numbers and all that... that's insane!

Or......

http://www.detnews.com/2004/technology/0408/23/a01-251000.htm
"The state Department of Treasury hopes to coax online firms into voluntarily collecting Michigan
sales tax after Sept. 1, when it unveils a new tax code that shares definitions, forms and due
dates with the 20 other states, including Indiana, Texas and Nevada."

and

"Even with next month’s changes in Michigan, some Internet shopkeepers say they still won’t
collect sale taxes until they’re forced to do so."

and

“We will comply with state requirements when the system is simplified and applied across the
board, not just some states,” said Patty Smith, spokeswomen for online retailer Amazon.com. "
