I've seen better and worse prices on the whole kit with the headset, but what about just getting 3 months or a year?  Is it pretty much the same everywhere and I should just re-up on my Live account?  Right now I'm just using the one month free from buying my 360.  :?

I've never seen any deals on the cards, although you may find something on eBay.  My subscription is expiring fairly soon an I've been looking at the new kits they have out.  They come with the 12 month card, a headset, a coupon for $20 off of a game AND marketplace points for I think $20 over the cost of the 12-month card which sounds like a great deal to me.

hmmm, I hadn't even considered the kit, since I already have a headset, but that does sound like a sweet deal - now you've made the choice difficult, lol!

Are these kits relatively universal - any BB, EB, Target, etc. should have them?  And, if not - what's the best price you've seen (is it $70, cz the 12 month card is $50?) Do you remember how many marketplace points were included?

Also, is there any reason to have two headsets in the same house, with only one 360?

Aren't you glad you answered my post?

The only thing with the kits is that I believe you have to set up an entirely new GamerTag if you buy the kit.  That means that you lose your friends list and all that good stuff.  The renewal cards are used for adding time to your subscription.

Oh, that would be bad, I've barely figured out how to do as much as I've done with adding folks, etc.   :?

Amazon has 12 month cards for $42.95 but I guess when you add in shipping and all that, you mine as well get it from one of the stores.

I bought a 12 month card off of Ebay for 22 bucks last month.  The silver coating was perfect on the card.  I entered the code with no problems and another year is mine.

I've also bought the 12 month cards off EBay for I think $25 and $30 the past two years, and had no problems...

I had no idea that eBay would even be an option, but I will definitely check more there - so far no super deals, but definitely better than the regular price.  Thanks everyone!  Tongue

I've got a starter kit at work for $30.  Granted, it'd be closer to $40 after tax and shipping, but it's an option if you want another headset.  Its one of the very early ones, so only demos, no game.

I'm almost positive that you wouldn't need to start a new account if you got a starter kit.  I'm fairly certain that it comes with the same 12 month card that you get if you buy it separately.

okay, so now I'm back to considering the starter kit, lol... the $22 to $30 prices on eBay no longer exist - must be a lot of folks going on with 360's now.  The best prices are now around $40 with shipping.  I probably could do better eventually, but I'm running out of time since I put my one month free gold on right away, on 360 launch day.

So no one ever answered this - is there any possible reason that you would want two headsets (other than if one breaks)?  Ie, can two people go online at the same time, and play others on Live with the same Xbox 360 on the same television? Any other reason?  :?

I might be able to pull $30 + tax + shipping (around $40 total).  Let me look at work Tuesday night.

OH, it's gotten more complicated!  I started looking for the Starter Kits on eBay, and I can get one for around 50 bucks - a 12 month subscription card, a free game (Mech Assault, or Crimson Skies, or Project Gotham racing 2, from what I've seen so far), and the "headset", but...

They say that the heaset is the XBox Live Communicator - some say it's all compatible with the 360, some don't... so,  does the "Communicator" have the same end connection as the 360 headset,  or would it only be good on an original XBox?

Zark - I just saw your latest post - Tuesday night will probby be too late - my one month free runs out the 22nd or 23rd... I started it on the 22nd of November.  :?

You can use the original Xbox headset just fine, you just won't have the ability to mute and control volume.

Keep in mind that there are two versions of the live starter kit.  The XBox one and the XBox360 one.  Obviously the 360 one comes with the 360 headset as well as the other goodies (200 marketplace points, $20 off a 360 game and an arcade game (doesn't say which one though))

I believe you get Billards for free.

If you get it right now, you get a $20 rebate I believe.

Ack! I knew I'd decide the wrong thing - oh, well, it's done.  I bought a 12 month card off of eBay since I was assured I'd have it on time (I had her email me the code right away) and that it would work.  I didn't get anything extra, and it wasn't a super deal, but at least I only had to shell out $40, and I'm not great with rebates anyway.

There's always next year though!

BTW - anyone using a free trial on Live - don't add your code until your time is up or almost up.  My subscription code ended my trial - so now my expy date is the 19th instead of the 23rd. Not a huge deal for me, but could be if you do it sooner.  :?
