Paper Mario Tales of Symphonia Shadow Hearts: Covenant
The video games section had only a few customers this morning. I was expecting a mob.
What did you get?

Shadow Hearts: Covenant Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne Phantom Brave
None of the three should get comfortable on my shelf, however. I'll probably keep them all sealed and return them for November new releases.

That would be incredibly foolish of you, as those are three of the best PS2 games released this year. Plus, you won't be able to dupe ToysRUs into thinking you paid in full for each game this year--you'll only get 1/3 what you paid for in credit for each title. So just keep the damn games and play 'em!

I'll return each game unopened and do a one-for-one exchange for a November release. As for the titles, I picked up titles that I'm moderately interested in, in case they refuse to exchange them (although I didn't have any problems doing it last year).

well from reading at other forums, strict rules have been handed out that dictate that the games will be returnable for one third of the total value of your receipt. So 100 bucks is three games at 33.33...
However your mileage will vary.

As said above: If the employees in your store follow the rules for this sale handed down on to them from on high this year, they will not return any of your buy 2 get 1 sale items for any games that were released to stores after the official dates of the sale. Meaning any games (DOAU, Halo 2, etc..) that release after the date of October 24th are not eligible as replacements for anything you should return from this sale.
It's shitty, I know. But I do still currently work there. I was looking at the email giving us that specification not two days ago. Some of us employees that were looking forward to the sale aren't any longer.
Granted, YMMV. The odds that the person working the customer service desk has any idea about this are slim to none in probably 90% of TRU stores. Most store directors don't worry too much about stuff like this. Only the truly bastard ones like mine bother with these little nits. Most of them would rather make people happy than bother with enforcing stupid rules.

No no no, my point is, you don't have a choice. You can't do a swap. You must return them for credit. There's no beating the system this year, unless you can fast talk an employee.

Well, that sucks, although I can see TRU's point as what I was planning does violate the spirit of the deal somewhat. I'll probably just return them for a refund, then.
Thanks for the info, everybody. Sorry I misunderstood your point originally, LE.

Thanks for the info, everybody. Sorry I misunderstood your point originally, LE. No problem. If you're an RPG guy at all, though, I'd recommend keeping the games. With the possible exception of GTA3:San Andreas, each of those individual games are going to more than outlast any of the rest of the year's console offerings.

What's TRU's policy on exchanging unopened games sans receipt?

Yeah, I think TRU learned from previous years where people were bringing in the 2 for 1 deal games and exchanging them for November releases. I would expect it to be really locked down this year as Thin_J said.
Andrew, I would recommend bringing the games back and getting your money back or playing the games. I wouldn't take a chance on it working like it did last year.

Sorry to poke for a detail, but does this include GBA games? That I'm not sure of, I don't have the ad right in front of me and I don't remember if I read if it does or not. All the pictures on the front of the ad were GC, PS2 and Xbox games, I don't remember seeing any GBA games.

I just went up there. I can answer my own question, yes, you can buy across platforms, and the next question... no, GBA is not included, only xbox, PS2, and Gamecube games are included.

Did anyone notice if the Shadow Hearts: Covenant is the multigame pack that includes the first one? I know they had a few one Amazon (they're gone) and I think I remember at least one person saying he got it in store (I think on CAG). If so it's defintely on the list.

The ToysRUs that I went to (Bethesda, MD) did not have the Shadow Hearts combo pack.

So I bought Pikmin 2, Paper Mario, and GTA3:San Andreas.. but since I don't have a PS2 I had hoped to maybe exchange it for Metroid 2 in a couple of weeks.
But if I can't do that, but can return it for $33, that still makes this a good deal for Paper Mario and Pikmin 2.

Is this deal still on? I can't find any mention of it on the TRU site this morning.
