I'd guess it just means that the $400 model is selling much faster than the $500 model, and they'd rather have the shelves filled with the $400 than have the $500 ones collect dust.

And that they are totally abandoning PS2 BC until they can figure it out on software-I know its an effect and not a cause, but its worth mentioning after the nonsense they spouted for a year about 100% BC and ripped on Microsoft's efforts. Hopefully they will put it on the box. FWIW, I agree with pug for what happened here-I think it wan an awful, ill-conceived idea in the first place. There will be another "elite" model at some point-but hopefully it will have something substantively better to offer.

Are you reading it as Sony dropping the 80GB model entirely? I thought it was just Best Buy choosing to focus on a single SKU.

My interpretation (and from what I see at other sites this seems to be the prevailing thought), is that Sony is discontinuing the line. BB broke the 20 and 60 gb discontinuations in memos like this.

The color change sounds dumb to me, but yowza what a great deal if true. I can think of 2-3 family members who would buy one instantly at that price for the blu-ray alone.

That rumor has been almost categorically debunked. That website is FOUR days old, they have posted this "rumor" twice. We already have the weeklys for BB, Target, CC, and Walmart for Sunday, and the PS3 is listed, as a deal, at 399.99 for the 40gb version in every single one of them. Sony dropped the price 2 months ago, and I would imagine would like to attempt to staunch the PS3 hemorrhaging money-another price drop would scream of absolute utter desperation. Recap-brand new site trying to get publicity. Succeeding Gamers that should be way smarter-buying into ti. Veracity: 99.99% false.

Wonderful, you won't be coming home with a PS3 at that price on the 28th though. You guys can't possibly believe such a completely absurd, baseless rumor, right? With nary a whisper out of MS or Nintendo? Well maybe you all can. Whateva.

I'm planning on picking up a PS3 tomorrow, might wait a a day or two just in case there is any truth to the rumor, then again I think it's fake but it never hurts to be careful.

Makes me glad I have a plugin that tells me where tinyurl links head off to before I click on them.

Dear Sony,
People don't want more features to increase the value of the high price point, they want the lower price point moved lower.
Sincerely, Me.

Makes me glad I have a plugin that tells me where tinyurl links head off to before I click on them. Which one? Is it for Firefox? It's two separate extensions for Firefox. The first is Greasemonkey (more info via Wikipedia). Once you have Greasemonkey installed, visit here for the script to make Tinyurl be a bit more useful as you now know where all the links go.
