...and its a steamworks code, which heightens my interest. Any word on if the game is supposed to be any good? I see its made by Gearbox.

A gameplay vid. Looks somewhat average, but might be okay at $30. I was disappointed to hear that your main marine counterparts don't ever panic. A few previews say they maintain their composure throughout the game. I wanted some "game over, man!" moments:
