1  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / stubbs the zombie? on: October 24, 2005, 09:00:40 PM
I'm all for short games.  Although I should amend that to say "appropriately short."  Just like in any story-telling medium, the game should be as long as the story dictates.  Unfortunately, that's kind of an intangible thing, but to me, so far, Stubbs feels short.

i guess near the end of the game stubbs origin is revealed. that is one very odd thing about the game - you are just thrown into the levels at the beginning wondering how the hell you just got there. maybe as i play through more of it that will all make sense?
2  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / stubbs the zombie? on: October 24, 2005, 05:22:18 PM
well i picked up stubbs over the weekend and i am having a really good time with it. it is funny. it has great art direction. the music is awesome and the zombie sounds and animations are well done and very funny to watch and listen to.

some say the game is short. if you see value only in how long a game is - then rent this one. but what's the value in a 40+ hour game that you'll never finish?

if you love zombies or games that are full of creativity and humor - then you will like stubbs. if you are not sure, then try before you buy.

the downside so far? i want more of the soundtrack. they tease the hell out of you with some great sounding songs. i wish i could hear them and select them like in tony hawk. but no. you will be teased. you'll have to seek out the soundtrack to hear the full versions of ben kweller and death cab for cutie doing covers of 50's pop/rock. maybe the developers can throw us a bone someday and include the music as a 2nd disc?
3  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / stubbs the zombie? on: October 20, 2005, 02:21:23 AM
anyone form an opinion of this game yet?

i'm thinking about picking it up, but the game is out (10/18-19) with only two real reviews showing up.

what does anyone think of it?
4  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Marvel Nemesis - What's the word? on: October 07, 2005, 03:44:48 PM
yeah, the commercial is disturbing. grown man wearing tighty-whitey hero pants. no thanks!
5  Gaming / Analog Gaming / I'm getting the Serenity RPG! on: September 10, 2005, 01:32:32 AM
yeah, the finished film is almost here. i was one of the lucky few that got to the early preview showing of the film (in minneapolis). ron glass made an appearance at the theatre it was cool.

is the game any good?
6  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / It's August: 2005 nearly 3/4 over: What's your GOTY? on: September 08, 2005, 08:24:06 PM
all the good games came out early because everyone is so focused on next gen already. this has been one dry summer for new games.
7  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / What's the Console Super Game of the Moment? on: September 08, 2005, 07:26:55 PM
again, stubbs the zombie. running the halo engine so it looks great. zombies infecting other zombies for squad based gameplay. humorous gore and disembodied zombies hands too. great sense of style with all of those classic 50's icons - the cars, buildings and the whole utopia nonsense.

i am suprised more people are not talking about this game...
8  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / It's August: 2005 nearly 3/4 over: What's your GOTY? on: September 08, 2005, 07:21:14 PM
RE4 without a doubt is console goty.

i could care less for the franchise and the character lines were as cheesy as ever, but this game is firing on all fronts. great art direction, impressive technical aspects and is pure bliss to play. i have never had so much fun playing with weapons in a game.
9  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Console Duldrums? on: September 08, 2005, 07:16:18 PM
xbox never had many great exclusives. but what about:

stubbs the zombie? that's running the halo engine (modified) and looks both fun and inspired!

what about king kong? playing as a giant ape and fighting dinosaurs sound boring to you? no way!

i can't wait to play as a zombie that kills a crowd of warm blooded people with a stinky zombie fart bomb!
10  Gaming / Analog Gaming / monsters menace america! on: September 08, 2005, 07:08:02 PM
anyone have impressions of this game. i want to get it for the physical game alone, but is it fun to play?
11  Gaming / Analog Gaming / Favorite board game? on: September 08, 2005, 07:05:49 PM
the basic settlers of catan set is total wood and cardboard crack! a very good board game to fill in for a slow summer for video games.
12  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Psychonauts!!! on: July 07, 2005, 07:56:23 PM
esoteric - intended for or understood by only a chosen few.

i think psychonauts falls into that category. especially when it has to compete for shelf space near halo and splinter cell.
13  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Psychonauts!!! on: July 07, 2005, 03:12:10 PM
yep, the game is well crafted but it is esoteric at it's core. i relate this game to ico or beyond good and evil, few will play it but it will be talked about and recommended by those who have played it...
14  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / IGN doesn't even cover the Revolution? on: June 16, 2005, 03:12:55 PM
how does revolution compete when they are already saying that they will not compete on a tech level? does anyone honestly think 3rd parties will support a machine that will eventually be out-classed on a hardware level? what does a game like call of duty 3 or 4 look like on the revolution when xbox 360 and ps3 will be pushing their machines further and further.

i'm not trying to bash nintendo. it just seems like they (nintendo) are setting themselves up for even less 3rd party support.
15  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / XBOX 360 more powerful than the PS3? on: May 22, 2005, 02:39:29 PM
i'm no tech head. so answer this.

is the new console tech way ahead of current pc hardware? isn't the pc always being pushed and upgraded? why are we not seeing games on the pc that look like what the ps3 and xbox 360 can "supposedly" do?
16  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Xbox 360 the consol that wasn't a console on: May 22, 2005, 02:34:59 PM
to me this e3 seemed like "look but don't touch". the games i got most excited about are coming to consoles available now.

if people don't know whether you are showing them movies or in-game graphics - your just not showing enough.

microsoft wants to command my digital lifestyle. i just want to play fun games.
17  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Anyone finished God of War on Hard? on: May 22, 2005, 02:27:26 PM
no way. too hard. this is the new ghosts and goblins for me. a game that may never ever be beaten!
18  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Nintendo gets stupid... on: May 22, 2005, 02:26:19 PM
how many guys do you think asked if she came with the system? ugh.
19  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Can't get into Hell (honest) - XB Doom 3 - Spoilers! on: May 22, 2005, 02:24:39 PM
what the hell?
20  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / XBOX 360 Games to be $59.99 each... on: May 22, 2005, 02:23:47 PM
not $60 forever. price drops are a wonderful thing and all systems will continue their greatest hits list. no worry really...
21  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Best Console Game you saw through all the E3 stuff? on: May 22, 2005, 02:21:05 PM
okami is not showing up as a gamecube title anymore. frown

i liked ultimate spiderman, zelda:tp and i hope wonderful things for the king kong game.

i'd like to see more of insomniac's i-8, that looked cool too.
22  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Nintendo gets stupid... on: May 20, 2005, 08:45:31 PM
this move to a new gba makes plenty of sense. i wish they had not reduced the screen though.

the new gba is going to be the cheapest system on the market and from day one it will have the largest game library next to the pc.

and as far as the list of games? every company out there is making a game for this system. always have. the cube may have lost support from developers. but hell, even microsoft owned rare still makes games for the gba.

this system has always been made for children (and fun loving adults). the price point is going to insure that it continues to sell. guranteed.

nintendo continues to piss off adult gamers, but many of us will still welcome their gaming products into our homes. right? nostalgia is a powerful tool. slywink
23  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / the loss of the perfect controller? on: May 17, 2005, 08:31:51 PM
i have faith that the ps3 controller does the trick. almost every other controller has copied sony (on some level) since the dual shock. now they go and change it to a steel colored handle bar mustache with buttons? shocked, was i.
24  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / E3 2005 - Best Screenshots on: May 17, 2005, 08:25:25 PM
what game is that?
25  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / the loss of the perfect controller? on: May 17, 2005, 08:21:26 PM
in many ways i think that the current ps2 controller is the best one ever made for a console.

i'm not sure what i think of the new ps3 silver banana controller. was anyone else suprised that they change what many people thought to be perfection?
26  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / I can't find it anywhere, Is Xbox360 backwards compatible? on: May 15, 2005, 02:45:32 AM
if the new system is backwards compatable i think more people would be willing to early adopt 360.

as of right now there are too many promising games coming to xbox for me to jump ship.

see: stubbs the zombie/destroy all humans/king kong/starcraft ghost

i am sure i could come up with more. honestly, i am just not ready to move on to 360...
27  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Eventhough most here don't care, here's some Revolution news on: May 15, 2005, 02:40:08 AM
real or not. i am sorry, i do not want to wear a game helmet.
28  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Psychonauts!!! on: May 13, 2005, 10:58:25 PM
oh and Harpua3, my comment was based on taking each game (re4 and psychonauts) on it's own merits.

i really wanted to love psychonauts to death. instead i just liked it.

on the other hand, i truly beleive that re4 is one of the best game on any console this generation. the work that went into it really shows.

enough about that though. we are here to talk about psychonauts. i hope that tim sticks with the consoles in the future and i hope that people find this game on the ps2.

they should have released it on the cube. i think on the cube you have gamers who are more willing to enjoy unique experiences (animal crossing/cubivore/pikmin). okay.
29  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Psychonauts!!! on: May 13, 2005, 10:52:53 PM
low sales huh? i don't think the game is even available at target or best buy.

seems like the only off-the-wall games that have really sold well this generation are katamari damacy and warioware for the gba.

i liked psychonauts, but i could see how many people would disregard it.
30  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Pirates! on: May 09, 2005, 08:17:05 PM
this thread is misleading. i thought there were actually pirates here. frown
31  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Destroy All Humans Demo Impressions [Xbox] on: May 09, 2005, 03:36:02 PM
i thought the demo was great, it was way too short. i would have liked to play in the city and see how crowds react to my destruction, but i enjoyed myself for what i was allowed to play.

the graphics are really good to me. the swaying grass blades looked really nice.

for me this is a purchase if the reviews come in strong. i enjoy these b-movie games. reminded me of ps2s war of the monsters in the sense of it's subject matter.

did anyone else think the alien sounded like jack nicholson?
32  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Psychonauts!!! on: May 09, 2005, 03:30:06 PM
x-play said psychonauts was as good as re4 on the gamecube? that's insane, this game can't touch re4. if nothing else in psychonauts the camera is iffy at times and i found the controls to be mushy at times. crazyness.
33  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Snowblind gets Dark Alliance rights on: May 04, 2005, 09:24:21 PM
yeah! baldur's gate 1 on the ps2 is such a fun game. i remember getting all hyped for fable, played it, thought it was okay and then went back the bg:da 1. good news you post, good news.
34  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Ever Find a Game that You Were Just NO GOOD at? on: May 04, 2005, 09:19:28 PM
twisted metal black. i love the insomniac games especially war of the monsters, but i am no good at this game. i just keep driving in circles shooting blindly.
35  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Psychonauts!!! on: May 04, 2005, 09:16:35 PM
i'm 13 hours in and going into the last level. if you really take your time and find everything i bet this game is 20 hours. i don't like to search out every detail the first time through - that way i have a reason to replay my favorites. second sight may have only been 7 hours long but i have played it at least 3 times through. i sure enjoy that one.
36  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Jade Empire Credits on: May 04, 2005, 09:13:41 PM
i play for maybe 2 hours a night - but not every night. i just finished re4 and loved that one. i'd bought psychonauts and began playing it, but could not deny the awesomeness of re4. now i am jaded because nothing looks or feels near that level of quality. smile
37  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Sigma Star Saga Preview on: May 04, 2005, 09:10:23 PM
this game looks good and everytime i see a great new 2d game these days i wonder which will be the last. with the psp and nintendo going to battle 3d is inevitable, right? i sure am looking forward to this game though...
38  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / x-play on re4? on: May 04, 2005, 02:03:13 PM
i'm not crazy about the show, i just liked the re4 skit. i think electric playground is the worst of the worst review shows though. one of those two guys tries to say something nice about every game. i am sorry, catwoman was awful! even if you polish a turd it is still just a shiny turd.
39  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / x-play on re4? on: May 03, 2005, 09:28:06 PM
did anybody see the re4 spoof on x-play? it was pretty funny. they did "a day in the life of the merchant". he was hanging out in the x-play office, going up to the staff and bugging them. my favorite part was when one guy buys a cupcake snack, goes back to his cubey and the merchant is standing there and says "what are you eat'n?".

if anybody knows where a video of this can be found, let me know. i'd like to see it again.
40  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Up your arsenal or Jak 3? on: April 28, 2005, 06:41:09 PM
ratchet is more explosions than platforming. ratchet 2 is the masterpiece. i love it.
