41  Non-Gaming / Political / Religious Nonsense / Re: So what do you think about wikileaks? on: November 29, 2010, 05:26:03 PM

Internal government operating documents should not be subject to public scrutiny any more than your personal thoughts or journal should be opened up to everyone in your personal life.  Would your life benefit from your friends knowing everything that you said about them to your spouse, and vice versa?

I have to disagree with this somewhat.  Should everything that happens in government always be open to the public?  No.  But you and your wife do not have power over millions of people, economies, and laws.  It is not a fair analogy.  I have to admit I err on the side of the public knowing more not less.  Secrecy gives places like Iran more power not less.  It is a good thing if the public know that most people, even their neighbors, think that Iran is a problem.

I can see how trust would be hurt and that other countries will worry more about talking with the US.  I also agree that the soldier responsible should be punished, as he is not an ordinary citizen and should be held to a different standard.  But maybe I just have a streak of anarchist in me, but I tend to like government operations to be more open and I must say I am more for the leaks than against.

I think the good value comes, not from comparing it to Fast Food chains (the prep time is often a little slow in 5 Guys, IMO), but in the quality of ingredients you get for the price.

oh, I got that after I ate.  It was just I read the articles in the restroom before I ordered and to me they strongly implied that 5 guys was inexpensive.  So I was a little shocked when the bill came.

I just had 5 guys for the first time last week.  I thought both the burger and fries were great (they do give you a ton of fries) and will eat there again.  I agree that they are expensive.  I thought it was funny, they have all these articles up in the store saying how much their food is a good value and how you get the most for your money, then my bill comes for one burger and one order of fries and it was one of the most expensive fast food meals I've ever had.

Tonight, the WEC showed a much better product (granted, they are owned by the UFC owners).  The two title fights were freaking fantastic!! I wish THAT was what would have been shown on CBS.  It would have given folks more of a true MMA feel..

Absolutely.  The EliteXC event was embarrassing for the sport.

Kimbo is an AWFUL fighter, and I now believe Dana White's assertion that BJ Penn at 155 lbs could wipe the floor with Kimbo.  I don't understand how the fight was stopped when it was, when Slice was clearly on the ground, in worse shape, with no defense at the end of the 2nd round.  Lots of inexplicable calls on a godawful fight.

The Carano fight was decent, as she at least shows some technical skills and good accuracy with her punches, but the COMPLETE AND TOTAL lack of any sort of defense from her opponent was incredibly disappointing.  That and Carano was clearly gassed at the end.

The overall production quality was embarrassing as well.  They looked as if they were trying to market it as pro wrestling.  None of the 'athletes' on this card showcase what the sport is about.  Overall, terrible.

The WEC event on the other hand, showcased 2 fight of the year candidates and some excellent striking and submissions.  THAT was the event that should have been shown on CBS.

I agree, although I missed the WEC matches and now wished I had caught them.

Both Kimbo and Thompson looked bad.  If Kimbo had any endurance at all he could have finished Thompson many times over.  And if Thompson had any jujitsu skills at all he could have submitted Kimbo 10 times.  The whole fight I was saying to the tv, "hes open hit him, knee him"  "god his arm is right there do a kimura"

Carano did well but she also needs lots of endurance work.

Oh, and while I did not have a Zekester style love affair with Eliza, I never understood all the hate either and she looked quite good at the reunion show.

I am ok with Parv wining.  Especially after Amanda's pathetic final tribal.  She basically came right out and said "Parv controlled things."  I read these threads and people always worry about backstabs and friends etc, but season after season, most jury members end up voting for the person that they think played the game the best regardless of what that person may or may not have done to them in the game.  I thought of the final 3 that Ceri played the best game; she dictated so many votes and schemes.  She may not have always been the one out front but she seemed to come up with a lot of the plans.  You can't be all nicey nice in the final tribal.  You have to come out and say you played the game and be proud of it.  Explain how you controlled things, say why you had the plans you had.  Amanda did play a good game, but she sucks at final tribal.  If I was on the fence before final tribal, or even if I was leaning a little on the side of Amanda, after final tribal I would have voted for Parv.
