Rumors that are starting to pop up are making me feel like this is very very unlikley to be WoS or Starcraft 2...can't pin it down, but...yeah, I don't think so.

As unlikely as it is, I really hope they come out of nowhere and announce a new franchise.  I think they've still got some innovation left in them (the Emperor hasn't driven it from you fully!) and the amount of crazed anticipation, speculation, and buzz it would create on the internet would be fun to watch.

I can get you a Palkia from the GTS.  It'll likely be Japanese with a Japanese name, but other than that it'll work just fine.

Just to warn you, you'll also only have one chance to capture the three legendary psychic guys that live in the lakes.
9724  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Car porn (Forza 2) on: May 13, 2007, 03:43:09 PM
Car damage is only for looks in the demo.  In the full game it does indeed affect performance (if you want it to), and if you look at the last page of the telemetry info you can see how detailed the damage tracking is.

It doesn't look like there are any on the list.

I think he's talking about games sold in western countries--which don't typically show up on Japanese sales charts. ;)

I bought my DS primarily for 漢字そのままDS楽引辞典.
I love Google's auto-translator sometimes.  Here's a snippet of a user review:

"Writing Chinese character, how the truth and convenience which is inspected! You recognize unexpected properly and. Rather than buying the electronic dictionary even price, convenient it puts out.
Also England and Japan is convenient. The [ru] it is with the shank, you did not know either with sound."

You had me at "it puts out," but "it is with the shank" is the icing on the cake.

Hori is good, a lot of people go with them.  I prefer the Brando ones myself, seem sturdier and clearer to me.

As far as games that won't get an English translation, the Jump! Superstars game and it's sequel are pretty popular imports.  I've heard you need at least some basic Japanese reading skills to really enjoy them, though.

So hey, how many on each side can you have in an online match? It read like it was a 1-on-1 matchup which, honestly, rather sucks for Pokemon. Much better to have 3-vs-3 (like in Colisseum) or more, since that opens up more room for strategy rather than luck.

I haven't done an online battle yet, but I'm almost certain you can have up to 6 on a team, and you can have them scaled to level 50 or level 100.

I think Battle Revolution on the Wii might limit you to 3 on 3, but I can't remember what I read for sure.

As far as I know I'll be able to do it tonight.

I think these are the pending requests:

Starshifter - Turtle named GAMERA
Magik - Houndour, possibly some of the old starters?
Farscry - Charmander

Starshifter, with GAMERA added to your team, I think you just might have to get a Dustox for yourself named MOTHRA

(Or is it blasphemy to mix Japanese monster franchises?)

Where do you get the hardware sales figures? I couldn't find them on the NeoGaf site when I followed the link at the top of this thread.

They don't have them yet for this week. Scroll down and click on the 4/23-4/29 week, then you'll see hardware sales underneath the software.

Is there a Wii Sports that sells seperately, or is that a direct correlation with the number of Wiis sold?
For some reason Wii Sports is included with the system everywhere but Japan.
Other than Baseball, perhaps the other sports aren't as popular in Japan?
Tennis is huge in Japan, I believe golf is pretty popular as well, and I do remember seeing some bowling alleys when I was there.  No idea about boxing.

I think it more has to do with Nintendo knowing they'd have an easier time gaining acceptance for the Wii in Japan compared to the rest of the world.  As a tech demo and through word-of-mouth, I think Wii Sports was pretty crucial to system's success here.

Besides, the 4/30-5/06 week lists the LTD sales as 1.4million Wii Sports and 2.2million Wii systems.  Two out of three ain't too shabby.

BTW - if you trade eggs, you have full control of the Pokemon when it hatches (as it's considered your Pokemon). Something you might want to keep in mind for further trades.
Didn't think of that.  It's a tradeoff, though, as the XP bonus for using a traded pokemon makes levelling so much faster.

That's also true. The boosted EXP is very nice. You gain 150% of normal exp for each victory. But then you can't control them until you get the badges. *shrugs*

There's an item called an everstone that stops your pokemon from levelling up.  If you had one of those and reached your level cap you could just hold them there until you got to the next needed badge.

Found it!  I was thinking of doch.

It's usage is a bit different than I remember, it's sort of translates to "on the contrary."

A better watermelon example than the one I originally gave is:

"So you don't want any watermelon?"

In English, "Yes" could mean "Yes, I do want watermelon, dammit." or "Yes, that is true, I don't want any of your damn watermelons."

In German, "Doch!" means, "On the contrary, I do indeed want some sweet, sweet, watermelon goodness."

YES!  Thanks wonderpug!  All I want is a Turtwig right now.  I want to call him:  GAMERA (in all caps).  How do we go about doing this?  Let me know.  Thanks!

Just make sure my friend code is entered into your Pal Pad, I already have yours entered in.  Then we both go downstairs in a Pokemon Center at the same time, talk to the nice lady behind the counter, then you send me one of those damn chipmunks (or whatever you don't care about) to swap with GAMERA.

I also have some stuff waiting for Magik, does tonight at 9pm Eastern work for you both?

Did you miss the original Forza?  It handled extremely well with the regular controller.  With Gran Turismo it was hard to do incremental amounts of brake/gas with the PS2's pressure sensitive buttons, but the Xbox's analog triggers worked perfectly.

My mind is completely blanking out.  There's this great German word I can't remember that doesn't have an exact equivalent in English.

In English, if someone asks, "Do you want to buy this watermelon or not?" and you answer, "Yes," there is ambiguity over whether you mean "Yes I would like to buy the watermelon" or "Yes I would not like to buy this watermelon."

In German, there's a handy-dandy word that means "Yes, the positive of two options."  With this word, the watermelon seller knows that your "Yes" means that you want to buy the watermelon.

Anyone know it?
