Great info in this Relic podcast.

  • Is indeed stand-alone but can combine with original Dark Crusade style.
  • Panzer Elite "really cool super-elite units" Jagd Panthers, King Tigers, Falschenjagers, infiltration stuff, "really cool really sneaky tactical options"
  • Both sides: want to play different against each other and contrast nicely with existing armies
  • Panzer Elite all about mobility, don't really have static defenses, all vehicle based
  • German Campaign exists
  • Brits: Very defense focused, many emplacement options, can dig slit trenches to create cover, focus on using officer corps to boost troops in radius
  • Brits: masters of artillery "tactical micro for artillery", creeping barrage "walking wall of death"
  • Brits: odd unique tanks, The Churchill looks like it belongs in WH40k
  • "Shoot! Shoot! Shoot, Ya bloody wanker!"
  • One of the Relic devs is obsessed with posting internet cat pics to the team...

If it were Yellow, Red, and then Green, do I hold down all three to play the Yellow note, then pull off Yellow to play Red, and then pull off Red to play Green?  If so, how am I supposed to know that I can hold down all three and get the right note?  Especially when notes are flying at me around Mach-2?  Pull-offs are so confusing to me.  Hammer-on's seem to make sense, but not going the other way.

You can hold down multiple notes and only the highest note will play.  This is always true* not just for hammer-ons/pull offs.  It's a fairly essential technique in the game.

So, for example, lets say you have a series of red and yellow alternating notes coming up.  You could hold the green fret down the entire time and it will be basically be ignored.

* Chords (defined in Guitar Hero as two colors that have to be be triggered simultaneoulsy) are the exception.  If it is asking you to play a Red-Yellow Chord then you cannot be holding down any other buttons when you play the chord.

I think he's more asking how, if you're meant to pre-hold down green and red for some upcoming pull-offs, you're supposed to know ahead of time that those should be held down when you strum yellow.  The answer being that you either memorize the sequence after replaying the song a few times, or you pull-off the more lenient way that GHII let's you do: just finger the notes as they come without strumming.

Also, does anyone know how you go about unlocking the encore songs?  I'm assuming I have to hit five stars on the songs prior to the encore before unlocking it, but if I'm wrong please correct me.  And can one unlock the encore performances on Easy, or must you be playing on Medium?  If so, it's going to be a "Long Road Ahead."
I believe you just have to beat everything on that level to unlock the encore, you certainly don't need to 5 star everything.

As for the pull-offs, I think GH1 did require you to have the higher notes pre-held down before releasing the lower ones, but GHII is much more lenient.  I think you can even get away with pressing the notes one at a time if you time it right.

Now if you're next going to ask how you transition from manageable chords and sequences to a sudden crazy string of hammer-on/pull-offs for a big solo, I have no idea.  Those still make me cry.

Time for a repost of xkcd:

It's certainly going to effect some games on the list- I would expect first year 360 titles like Over G Fighters and Top Spin 2 would likely have been multiplatform if other platforms had existed at the time.

Now you're making me wonder what Rockstar's Table Tennis might have been like on the Wii.

How do you guys spend your gold?  Do you buy new equipment for your character or go for all the citadel upgrades first?  I don't know what to do.  I purchased the dungeon and the stable (to train mounts).  I'm now hesitant to purchase anything.  I would like to upgrade my equipment but I could really use those citadel upgrades.  Any thoughts???

On a related note, how the heck do you get lots of gold?  I'm currently a Level 11 Knight and I have only 1,100 gold saved up and I'm unsure how to spend it because I don't want to gimp my Knight.

I don't think your money problems will last very long.  The item offering in the stores doesn't scale all that well as you go up in level--for me at least there were a lot of long stretches where I couldn't see anything in the shop that was better than rune-made, quest-given, or items I bought long ago.  I'm past level 40 now and I'm still using two items I bought in my teen levels (Firewalker Staff, Ultimate Troll Ring).

So I don't think you have any risk of gimping your knight, no matter how you choose to spend your gold.

I think it sounds cool, but I bet after a shot time it will be only a few hard core types that use it often. Most gamers will probably check it out a few times then ignore it. It just doesn't add to the game-play that much IMO.

Do you see this as being all that different from PC games that allow for customization and mods?  There are lots of people who love spending their time making stuff, and I don't think it will be hard to find people willing to spend game-money on it.

I do think there is a difference. On the PC things like this are free (in and out of game). Forza is going to make you earn money so you have access to these things unless you have the talent/patience to do them yourself. A lot of people don't.

I suppose, but since your game money can only be used for buying cars or customization, it doesn't seem like much of a stretch for people to spend it on custom cars.

I think the real challenge for the feature is to give a good way to seperate the good stuff from the dreck.  Will we be able to test drive cars to see if the tuning really does what the tuner advertises?  How many pages of gag paint jobs will we have to sort through to find some serious ones?

I'm wondering though about that whole IQ comparison - the percentage of highest IQ's in China and India being more than something like the percentage or our schoolchildren (sorry, vague paraphrasing at best).  My first thought was soon represented, somewhat, by the population figures... is it simply that there are so many children in those countries to make that inevitable?  Just a thought.

It was just a fancy way of saying that they have four times as many children as the US.  So yes, their top 25% intelligent kids exceed our entire kid population, but it also means their stupidest 25% exceed our entire kid population. slywink

I didn't make it much past that snippet, did it ever move on past different ways of saying China and India are overpopulated?

The reason for Megatron not being a gun is largely because of the laws passed where you can't make a real-looking toy gun.  Remember when the Zapper for the NES had a grey barrel, but later ended up with an orange one?  That's part of the reason.  If you try to find an original Megatron, it can run you a couple of hundred dollars because it is pretty scarse now.  Apparently Hasbro thought about remaking Megatron in blaze orange and did a prototype, but it just wasn't the same, obviously.

thankfully, there's still a company out there that can make awesome TF toys...Takara (the maker of TFs in japan) is just releasing their new Masterpiece Megatron and it's absolutely awesome.  unfortunately, it's technically illegal to import into the US due to the restrictions on toy guns and can be confiscated by customs if you try.  it's the Megatron we've always wanted though...

Sorry for another Transformers thread resurrection, but a bunch of new pics of this toy were just posted, and well, I must have one.

Yeah, I guess strategy game isn't the best term. I have played the PC demo, so I'm certain I'll love the full game. I really want it for lunchtime at work.

There's a PC version?  I've been hearing alot about this game but since I don't have a DS I haven't been paying attention.  I may have to give it a spin tonight- if I can rip myself away from S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

There's a PC demo but oddly no option for downloadable purchase, the PC version isn't even officially announced.  It's bound to come out some day, but I'm guessing they're having some kind of publishing woes.

It really is just personal preference, I don't think you can go wrong with either version.  The companion bonus is nice for flavor, but it's not like you're going to have trouble winning battles without them.  I'm very happy with the stylus controls, especially for mount training where you only have 3 seconds to make a move, but I wouldn't mind having the nicer graphics on the PSP version.

If I still had my PSP, personally I'd probably still go for the DS version as it's more portable for my needs, and the stylus control is more important than graphics for me.

You may have noticed that you and Hetz have a history of getting under each other's skin.  This is drama.  I think it's fair to say that the forum as a whole is tired of seeing the two of you bicker.  Hetz is banned, and he's still being a baby to you.  We agree that this is bad.  If it's just harassment in Live, then that's between you, Hetz, and Microsoft.  If his harassment in Live alerts you to something he's planning to do in the forum, it's a great idea to shoot the mods a warning.  But how about giving them the warning via email or PM, instead of starting a new thread (while the original banning thread is still smoking) and calling Hetz names and threatening him directly?

That's all I meant with my initial post, is it really such a crazy thing for me to say?

So lemme get this straight, he throws some shit at me, trying to start crap all over again, and you guys basically think I am the bad guy for making it public? That is crazy...CRAZY. Ya know what, if you guys wanna defend him so badly, why don't you just try and get him reinstated, its obvious he is liked a helluva lot better than me here.

I don't think anyone here is defending Hetz, and I don't think anyone here thinks that you were asking Hetz to "start shit again".  I think everyone agrees that Hetz is being stupid by harassing you on Live.  It's just maybe, with the history of argument that you and he have, it would be better to work with the mods to keep him from harassing you on the board, instead of doing it publicly.

If you did feel it was necessary for it to be public, maybe it would've been better to just post the facts of what happened and what he threatened to do on the board, instead of calling him names and threatening him.

I'm really not out to get you, and I don't think the others in this thread are out to get you.  Hetz apparently is still out to get you, and that's just sad.

Someday, somehow, the "X Days without jblank/Hetz drama" sign on the front page will hit the double digits.

Just put him on ignore or whatever on Live, report any harassing PMs he sends you here so those alts get banned as well, and if he really does keep on his obsession with you then work with the mods to take some action with his ISP.

No need to again call him out or return his taunts in public, I mean, he's banned, what more do you want?

But despite it's open-ended nature and great gameplay, Grand Theft Auto isn't really that great of a game without a solid story. Am I really that crazy?

You're really that crazy.  Or maybe I'm crazy, one or the other. smile   But for every Grand Theft Auto from the original to III to San Andreas I've always gone through the same progression.  Mess around and have fun with my new sandbox, do enough missions to unlock the rest of the world, go back to sandbox fun.  I've put countless hours into the series as a whole, but I don't think I've ever beaten one of them.

This is a VERY good way of putting it. To say it's one of the hardest games ever made is being nice.

And...why is Turtles 600 points? Aren't all NES games 500?

The extra 100 points is for your soul.
