Is there any way to cancel a unit's movement?  I accidentally tapped a spot way across the map, and now my unit just keeps automatically moving there no matter what I do.  Can't figure out how to cancel it.

The game looks great, but my iPad feels like it's going to melt after about 10 minutes.  I've never felt it get this hot before.

I had trouble cancelling a unit's movement, too.  I think maybe you need to re-select the unit by pressing the unit icon in the bottom right (end turn slider) repeatedly?  I'll have to try later.

And yeah, holy jebus does it heat up an iPad.

Has there been any changes to the map sizes? My main quibble with Civ Rev was that even the largest maps were too small; it was impossible to avoid the other civilizations even early on in the game.

Hmm, unless I'm missing something there doesn't seem to be any way to adjust map size when you create a game.  I haven't mapped the entire planet in a game yet, so I can't comment on how big the standard map is.

The first one is pretty popular both with The Wife and me and with the kiddos, so we'll welcome the sequel with open arms.  I just hope Amy Adams agrees to sell her soul this time and let Disney use her likeness on dolls and stuff, as my kids would love if we could get into some moichandising! moichandising!
124  Gaming / Portable Gaming & Apps / Re: Civilization Revolution 2 Reased for Ipad...and apparently nobody knew... on: July 02, 2014, 01:21:22 PM
Interface seems really clean and intuitive.  I'm trying my first game on an iPhone 4S and so far everything's easy to see.  Getting a few framerate hiccups during fast scrolling and at the start of combat animations.

Attacking my first barbarian camp, I couldn't see what the defending unit was until I attacked, unless I had the Scout ability.  Is that a new game mechanic?  I can't remember.

Oh and this seems neat.  At about turn 5 my domestic advisor presented me with a choice of 4 goals from my citizens, oriented toward combat, commerce, research, and something else.  I chose 'kill 2 barbarians', so let's see what that amounts to.  (amounted to a free upgrade to one of my combat units)

Ok, that's all you get for now.  Framerate issues are getting a bit too annoying, so I'll have to wait until I can play on my iPad.  I don't recommend the game if you'll be playing on a 4S or weaker.

Aside from the framerate issues, seems pretty good so far.

Civilization Revolution 2 also notably shuns the dominant free-to-play business model in mobile gaming. It costs 10.49 to download from the App Store, with no in-app purchases.

I did see this blurb, though:
Quote
Developer 2K China is also promising to release additional map sections and civilization leaders through the App Store. Players will have the option to purchase these characters and areas and add them to their game, although doing so is purely cosmetic.

I just found a forumer's impressions on Pocket Tactics that calls it Civ Rev 1 with more polish.  He unfortunately also says the AI isn't much better, which is disappointing.

I'd love to have a better CivRev in my pocket though, so I guess I'll be a guinea pig.  I think I have time for one game this morning, so I'll try to get some quick impressions up in an hour.

Bummer.  Well, I guess I'll just shift my hopes and dreams over to Titanfall 2.

I did that a looooooong time ago.

You never ended up buying it though, did you?  I've sunk a hefty chunk of time into it and enjoyed the ride, but I was hoping they'd add more Titans or at least new weapons as they update the game.  New game modes may excite other people, but that's not at all what I'm looking for.  The multiplayer FPS games I've sunk the most time into have just had one or two game modes that have stayed the same for the numerous years I played them.

There are burn cards for Titans now, which sounds fun.  I'd love to get back into the game but I'm stalled out on a really annoying regen challenge that's deflating my interest.  I also really wish they'd hint at some new Titan types coming in the semi-near future.  New maps and game modes seem a little lackluster for paid DLC, at least for my wallet.

Rather than just ambiguously "offensive", would you say that the team name consists of or comprises immoral, deceptive, or scandalous matter; or matter which may disparage or falsely suggest a connection with persons, living or dead, institutions, beliefs, or national symbols, or bring them into contempt, or disrepute?

Just because we are the minority on this forum does not mean that we are wrong on the issue.

So you are saying the Native American's are right then.  stirthepot

Side note on the Native American / Indian.  Upon moving to New Mexico I learned that the Indians here prefer to be called Indians.  All the references you see around here pretty much all say Indian, from Indian tacos to Indian dances to the Indian Culture Center.  Generally, they think "Native American" is a stupid term.  Using just "Native" is acceptable.

I prefer whitebread over whitey. Whitey has a negative connotation.
I also prefer just "pale" as opposed to "paleskin".
Caucasian is just a bizarre word. Don't use it to describe me, thank you.

I wonder if these "Natives" care about my concerns?

If there was a cultural shift and pale whitebreads decided they didn't want to be called Caucasian whitey paleskins anymore, then yeah, I think the Indians around here would respect that.  Why wouldn't they?

Cultural shift? Is that what this is? Does this "cultural shift" include Natives getting more respect? My argument is that the disrespect because of a football's teams name wasn't there in the first place.

And you're the only one here that actually considered that turnaround would be fair play  thumbsup to that.

There's no cultural shift needed for the Redskin issue, because it's always been an offensive term.  Currently, Caucasian isn't considered an offensive term, so it would take a cultural shift for it to become one.

I have no idea what you mean about Indians getting more respect.  Are you saying this is happening because people respect Indians more than they used to?  If so, that sounds pretty great.  Are you saying this is happening because Indians are making a marketing play to get more respect?  Try and get more hits on their tribal websites or something?

And it's also looking like you think someone is saying that football fans of the Redskins team are being racist.  Who do you think is saying that?

And you also think that this is all brought on by greedy lawyers with their own hidden agenda?

Of course it's control...it's an attempt, as it is with the PC-crowd, to control what words are banned, illegal, etc. If you would just let the word go, is that not giving up control?

Ok, so it's not the government or liberals, it's the politically correct crowd that's trying to control what words are banned or illegal?  So far, what words have they succeeded in banning or making illegal?

Quote
The fans that don't care what the name of the team is, and just want to watch their team play, are being assumed to be racist if they disagree with any attempt to change the name.
Who is assuming the fans are being racist?  The PC crowd?  Liberals?

Quote
Lawyers aren't the ones that pursue this kind of thing? if Native Americans don't like the name of the team, why not just band together and over-run the stadium, force fan entry, kick the crap out of the owner, etc. Just using this for comparison sake. I would actually perfer to see this happen as opposed to the gov't or lawyers getting involved.
Ok, so if the tribe decides they have an issue with something, their only choice is to try and violently force someone to do what they want, because if they pursue legal action they're just playing into a greedy lawyer's hidden agenda?

You know, I felt that way a few years back when I went from PC to console, but the very complexity of a PC, which can be very frustrating, can also be very liberating. You can run mods, you can tweak files, and you just have more freedom. Sure, it's not easy, but damn it does make the old noggin work which is probably a good thing to do at my age and being retired. And frankly, with a console I felt like I was just at the mercy of not just the game developer but also the console maker.

That's exactly how I felt in the 486 era and a bit beyond, but now I look at your struggles and think of how my very limited daily gaming time would get turned into tech fiddling time.
