Loving it... that is all

Yeah, I'm really happy with it so far.  I didn't touch the beta at all, so the whole thing is new to me.

I really like being able to bounce around between story missions, random-generated single player (is that called patrol?), and multiplayer.  In games like CoD, I loved the multiplayer but rarely bothered with single player.  In games like GTA, I was all over the single player but the multiplayer felt tacked on.  With Destiny, all the options seem fun and viable so far, and it's great that they're all integrated so your progress in one area contributes to the others.

I was a little worried about the limited number of classes, but now it's looking like the subclasses are pretty distinct.  Playing in multiplayer also whets my appetite for classes I didn't think I was interested in--nothing like seeing another player pull off something amazing to make you want to do the same thing.

I'm very happy about the speed of progression.  I'm only level 11 or so, but seeing how quickly people got to 20 it doesn't look like I'm going to hit any absurd leveling curves anytime soon.  The pace of getting new abilities seems spot on, I feel like I'm always getting to try something new.  The great speed of progression also makes me happy about the prospect of trying the other classes and leveling them all up.  So far, I haven't seen anything that's going to feel like a grind.

Gameplay itself seems great, too.  I was having a blast soloing the single player campaign, and I had a blast playing multiplayer with the GT crew.

My only big complaint I can think of is with the home base city.  It just doesn't really have any of the illusion of being a living center of operations that I got from cities in other MMOs.  There's no personality.

I suspect there's not much help for me, but I'll inquire any way.

I made it to the first mission after the hub (to get a ward drive or whatever) but couldn't get past it.  The first section was OK, and there were a couple other strangers with me.  But at some point you get some warning and then the other players vanish and there's a ton of bad guys which I just can't get past without dying again and again, and they seem to reset each time so I can't even whittle them down.  Am I missing something or is this just another one of those FPS games I can never get far in?  Oddly I can't even lower the difficulty to "1" - they only have the option for "2" - Normal and "3" - Hard.  Is that correct?

I was thinking that maybe I simply cannot play FPS, but then I remembered the one time I was successful - that was Hellgate London.  I had no trouble in that game, so what I'm saying is it's not 100% me lol.

Just a thought ritt, have you tried turning your aim sensitivity really really low?  When I first tried to make the switch from mouse & keyboard to console shooters, I had a hell of a time getting used to doing quick analog stick aiming.  It was a whole new muscle skill to do a slight tilt to do finer movements--I kept on doing large-scale movements and overshooting my target.  Dropping down the sensitivity for a bit helped mitigate that and give me a chance to get used to things, and then I started moving the sensitivity back up.

Another shot in the dark possibility, what weapon are you using?  Is there any chance you're using the full-auto rifle and keeping the trigger held down too long?  Maybe you're starting to fire while off-aim and by the time you get on target your accuracy has gone to crap?  You might be better off using the burst fire pulse rifle, so you get forced to slow down and aim more carefully before each trigger pull.

There are now 25 known codes to redeem, and a kind soul on Reddit wrote a little javascript you can use to have them all entered automatically, even if you've already put in a few manually.

This is pretty much a reskin of Titanfall, so as long as you bought and liked that then you should have a great time with this.

Um.....no?  This isn't anything like Titanfall other than it's an FPS.

I am teasing ATB about his round by round updates of his debate on whether or not to buy Titanfall, with an extra meta level of teasing about him saying he goes dark on games he's anticipating since he didn't do so with Titanfall.  I'm also making the claim that he's so in the dark about Destiny that he wouldn't know whether or not it was a giant robot shooty shooty game.

Well now you ruined it with a lengthy explanation.  I'd like my money back.

Lengthy joke explanations make every joke better!  It's like a laugh track or applause sign; being told when to laugh makes it easier and more fun for you.

Man, I'm interested to hear others thoughts on this too.  Mine are 7 and 4, and I don't want to be a prude, but I'd be hard pressed to let them play an online game at this age.  Maybe this is because all crap i heard playing MW2 and everything else.

The online games where you can only talk in emotes are pretty safe as far as player interactions go.

I mean, there have been some really awesome 3DS games, but overall I'm disappointed with the pace of good releases coming out. It just feels like we're so far from the onslaught of great games we had with the last few Nintendo handhelds. I'd rather see them squeeze more life out of the current platform until it's time for a whole new one, rather than this mini-upgrade. The more games take advantage of the upgrades, the more I'll be grumpy about needing to upgrade.  <cantfindthecolbertsmiley>

Buffing the slimes is a must since the clone retains any buff the parent has.  Save up your slimes until you at least two buff cards in your hand.  Also donít play more than 4 minions total or the AI will just wipe the board.
Don't feel bad, Lee. The Paladin challenge is by far the worst class challenge. They want you to set up slime combos and a Blood Knight combo, but the rest of the deck doesn't really support it. You're pretty much at the mercy of the random number generator on this one.

If anyone's still comparison shopping HOTAS options, I went back and forth a ton between the X52 and the CH Products options, and ended up deciding on CH Products.  In general, CH seems to have a better reputation for hardiness compared to the X52.  Saitek stuff gets some "I've never had a problem" reviews along with "XYZ broke after 1/3/12 months", whereas CH gets almost entirely "it's worked for 5/10/20 years flawlessly" reviews.

The big omission on CH is that there's no yaw twist on the stick, but that's also one of the first points of failure on the X52.  I mapped yaw left/right to buttons on the throttle, which works for me but may make others unhappy.  In the CH's favor, it has a thumb analog stick on the throttle which is fantastic for the lateral thrusting in Elite.  Point of preference, CH's throttle moves directly forward/back instead of arcing over an axis like the X52.
152  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Elite: Dangerous on: August 18, 2014, 09:58:22 AM
In the game's current state, space trucking is way more profitable than pirating or bounty hunting or any kind I combat profit. To escape from combat, you can disable flight assist and hit afterburners to maintain afterburner speed indefinitely, and then you can reenter hyperspace before the interdicting ships even get close enough for your sensors to identify. While I'm building up cash with my Hauler, I'm not even flying with a weapon installed.

As for the starter ship viability, definitely choose your fights carefully. Cobras are probably too much, especially if they outnumber you. Sidewinders are doable, and you can definitely take on whatever those small patrol ships are called. You can also look for conflict zones (choose a faction to side with on the right panel) and then do a battle that's not everyone out to get just you.

If you get enough money for some upgrades, gimballed weapons are great for beginners since they give you such a wide zone for accurate targetting.

I had a bit of trouble with Grobbulus and Gluth in the Construct wing.  Definitely a bigger challenge than the last wing.

For Grobbulus I used my druid deck that I use for when I get the "Only the Mighty" quest.  It's filled almost entirely with beefy 5+ cost minions and so Grob's hero power doesn't affect them much.  I put all my "gain a mana crystal" cards in the deck and try to be sure to get some in the mulligan, that way I can still play the beefy minions fairly early in the round count.

For Gluth, my favorite Paladin deck is already almost entirely made up of 1 health minions, so that works out really well.  Divine shield also comes in really handy.  If you have a Murloc deck, I'd bet that would work pretty well against Gluth also.

What makes this situation so much worse than all the timed exclusives we saw in the PS3/360 era?

I think that what has made this most offensive for people is

1. It was a game whose predecessor appeared on all consoles and was expected to be the same
2. The crappy doublespeak they used to announce it

It was really a problem of their own making.

Offhand I can't recall a sequel from last generation that was exclusive (timed or otherwise). Bayonetta 2 is the closest example and that's a very different story.

I think TiLT is right that we may not actually have ever had this situation in the previous generation.  I could've sworn we did, but all the titles I'm remembering are turning out to be ones that really did have to have extra work done to get ported over to the later system.

I'm finding it supremely hard to google for it, other than DLC timed exclusives.  Does Bioshock count?   It's really hard to filter out games that had to have extra work done to be ported to the second system.

Ninja Gaiden 2 seems to be a real example.   What about Bioshock?
