Where's the cat picture for "Who gives a crap?"  I've never downloaded an XBLA game.  I don't know why you would spend $400 on a console to play sucky ancient arcade games.  I mean, great if they got 'em, but I'm not spending money on it.

Do you feel the same about people paying $10-15 bucks on simple PopCap games, card games, or other budget titles to play on their $2000 PCs?

First off, nobody bought a $2000 PC to play PopCap games.  Second, simple PopCap games, etc. rarely come up as a topic of discussion on these forums.

That's the whole idea, I dont think anyone bought a $400 Xbox just to play Live downloads.  But once you have that expensive PC or 360, and something fun is offered for $10, it's tempting to get.

I'm not sure why it's relevant whether or not we talk about PopCap games here, but FWIW it's from these forums that I learned about Bookwork Adventures, Insaniquarium, Oasis, Heavy Weapon, Zuma, several Breakout clones, and other fun little budget priced diversions.  But even if we didn't talk about any budget titles here, I think the parallel to Live games still stands.

"Judging the consoles based upon a broad perspective that includes software now available and coming in the future an entirely different argument could be formulated.......Though the launch software hasn't blown anyone away, the 360's launch titles were equally unimpressive, and the system will certainly mature."

So they are awarding the best console of 2006 based on games that will come out in the future?

Wow.

And linux, because "the availability of supported Linux distributions for the console will also develop and will likely bear entirely unexpected fruit in future."

Everyone is chomping at the bit to see what Linux has in store for the PS3.  "Hot damn, a console that will support Linux distributions!" they say.  Parents ask their teenagers, "Which console do you want for Christmas?" and the kids always say, "Give me a console with Linux-based productivity packs! YAY!"

NiM$ is still ok to use, however.

Thanks again, Crabbs. It just arrived, and is sitting there, taunting me, slowing down the clocks at the office.

If you're already at work...is it too late to call in sick?

I'm also tempted to see if I can book one of the building's giant conference rooms with a 100" presentation screen for a few hours...

I'm about as big a Total Annihilation fanboy as they come, and sadly I'm going to be waiting for reviews and impressions on a game that, in another timeline, I easily could've spent $90 on day 1 for a fanboy collector's edition with goofy figurine, pin, and cloth map.

Starcraft 3 may wow you with it's 3d holographics and motion sensing control, but IMO it still doesn't match the strategic options that Supreme Commander offered over 10 years ago.  I tell you, all these RTS games these days are real time tactical games.  You want strategy?  Fire up a Windows XP emulatotron and waste no time hyperloading Supreme Commander from underdogs.china/|o35*(|\\pqr.co

10180  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Wii....first impressions. on: January 17, 2007, 09:14:23 PM
My first impressions:

The Zelda box indicates that it would be very fun if the disc were able to be spun rapidly while a beam of light drew information encoded onto the surface.  Thumbs up.

The one nunchuk I found feels solid, is easily wieldable in either hand, and the jack at the end of the cord only hints at the kinds of attachable accessories that would enhance (perhaps greatly enhance) the thrills.

All in all I'm fairly impressed.  I imagine that my enjoyment will increase tenfold if I am able to find a Wii on Sunday, but I dunno...it's pretty fun as-is.

After 2-3 attempts, I still haven't managed to make it through all of Star Trek I.  Khan is probably the best as far as actual quality as a film, but Star Trek IV (where they go to San Francisco) is my personal favorite.  Even people who generally don't like sci-fi movies can have a good time with that one.

My suggestion would be link similar and next to 'Report to moderator'.  Or just the red X graphic without the word Ignore (you could mouse over if you don't know what it represents).

I don't think it should be more prominent than Send this user a PM and related site functions.

I'd rather it (was gone, but barring that I'd rather it) was tucked away so that you have to view someone's profile to ignore them.  As it is you can just toggle it on and off like it's no big deal.

The real person they are giving the finger to is MS. Having this come out at the same as the 360 version of GH2 is like a stab in the back.

This definitely falls true for me.  I was planning to buy the 360 version on day 1, but if PS2 expansion packs are coming out already, I can just take a wait and see attitude watching how the downloadable 360 songs pan out.

Admittedly, I am pretty bad at TBS games, but I've always had particular trouble with the Disciples series.  It has always seemed very unbalanced to me.  You start maps with low level characters, and the only way to build up those characters is by defeating monsters to gain XP.  However, there are a very limited number of monsters that low level characters can actually defeat.   So your only options are to either build up a single uber-group, or try running around with multiple groups of under-powered characters.

I've had a lot of fun with Disciples, but this is my biggest beef as well.  I don't like being forced to the uber-group strategy.

Is there any way you can blow up just that circled part?  The kanji (the more complicated characters) are hard enough to read as it is in that scan, but it would be a huge help if you could make those little symbols above the chinese-looking characters legible.  (They're sort of like cheat sheet phonetic spellings of the characters.)

They have panels over the ice.  The ice is always there; just covered up.

So how do they keep the ice frozen?

It is cooled from below.  There are some base layers of ice, another layer with the lines and team logos, some more layers, and then the top layer that gets melted and refrozen every time the zamboni comes by.

This was covered in an inane bar argument on Cheers.  They ended up breaking into the Boston Garden and pulling up some of the basketball flooring to see the ice underneath.  Then they didn't put it back properly, and in the evening's game I think someoene on the Celtics tripped on it and lost the game.
