You're really not even going to respond to a polite request to take it down?  I would really rather not have to worry about looking at pictures of murdered people on Gaming Trend.  Respectfully, please remove the picture, or at least move it to Politics & Religion.
I simply dont find it funny. But asking him to take it down because it might offend your feelings is even more offensive to me than it being posted in the first place. Who appointed you as the moral police? Especially when its meant to be social commentary.

I say leave it up ATB.  But it sure as shit isn't funny.

Thats all I will say on this topic, as this isn't the thread for arguing.

I didn't order him to take it down, I asked him nicely. Someone could nicely ask me to change my avatar because their great uncle died during the filming of the movie pictures and it made him sad to see it. I'd be within my right to keep my avatar as-is, but it sure would be nice for me to respect the request and take it down anyway.

Even though this forum is dwindling in population, I still like coming here more than anywhere else because it feels like a tight-knit community of friends. I guess that part is now also going away.

I'm still using decks I built even before the Naxxramus expansion, and I can still do well in ranked play with them. I'm sure I could improve them if I added in more cards from the expansions, but I'm so familiar with the decks as-is that I don't want to fiddle with them.

Honestly, if you just swap in a few more silencing cards into your decks, you'll probably be plenty updated to handle fighting newer decks.

Would you mind taking the picture down, ATB?  I'm assuming the man in the picture did end up getting murdered, and it's depressing seeing a picture of him moments before death turned into a silly internet picture with a dog head photoshopped on.

When am I supposed to fight...
Spoiler for Hiden:
the big guy banging on one side of a gate.  There's a trio of crow monsters in the courtyard near him.

With a brick?  Those guys are easy to parry/visceral, I think you can get a stagger off on him too from behind then visceral attack.  The only guy early on you probably shouldn't fight is the big guy with the axe near the gate behind some boxes.

So funny.  This is the kind of thing I'm struggling to wrap my head around.  Guy banging on the gate screamed "mid-boss" to me, so I haven't tried engaging him at all yet.  Guy behind some boxes looked like "tough challenge to give a go" and I had numerous failed attempts against him.

Ok, I'll give all this stuff a try.  Thanks all for the tips.

Well, all this insanely good word of mouth got me to bite on the game even though I only tried one previous Souls game with limited success.  I'm still just in Central Yharnam, and I've explored a decent amount of the area, but I'm just feeling kind of aimless and powerless.  I get to some new big nasty looking enemy, give it a go, and die horribly, and I have no idea how to tell if I'm supposed to grind a bit more, if I can take him if I just get better at the combat, or if I'm not even supposed to be fighting him yet.

I really want to get what all the fuss is about this game, so before this heads over to eBay...

yeah, not showing in the play store yet for Android Mobile.  Tablet version comes back not compatible

I saw someone say in a comments section somewhere that you can find it if you look for a list of all Blizzard products rather than searching specifically for Hearthstone.

I didn't realize this was a thread necro at first -- it seemed perfectly plausible that ATB would post a book of the year thread in early April. slywink

As for my 2015 picks so far:

The Girl With All the Gifts, by Mike Carey - Went into this on a recommendation without knowing a thing about the plot, and had a really great time. I highly recommend reading as little about the plot as possible if you're investigating it as a potential read.

Old Man's War, by John Scalzi - finally got this out of my backlog after repeated former recommendations, and I loved it. The sequels are high on my to-do list now.
14  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Heros of the Storm Beta Keys on: April 10, 2015, 06:03:15 AM
You're inviting people you know from a forum, not posting them for the whole wild world or trying to profit from them. Your "team" is your 5 man group you take into a match, so if they deactivate the keys you got caught selling on eBay then you won't be able to group up with those 4 eBayers you sold the keys to.

Worth a try as long as you're expecting more like McDonald's tier fast food and not stuff like Five Guys or In-N-Out which is a step up.

I recommend you get a Western Bacon Cheeseburger with Crisscut Fries, and ask for a side of ranch dressing to dip your Crisscut Fries in.  Schedule a coronary for later in the day.

22  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: HOTAS Flightstick/Throttle Reccomendations on: April 01, 2015, 06:03:09 PM
It'd probably be nicer if I could somehow situate the stick lower, but I haven't had any comfort issues even during long sessions.  Which other stick option do you think looks lower profile, though?  They all have comparably hefty bases from what I can see.

Yeah, that's the HOTAs one that's out of my price range at $400. Plus without the stick twist I imagine you would want the rudder pedals which is another $200.

I was trying to say the combined price could be about $200, depending on sales.  That's about how much I paid for my setup.  Rudder pedals certainly would be nice, but I've been making do just fine using throttle buttons for my middle finger and ring finger to do rudder controls.

Buyin' a bunch-o-DLC for Evolve this week.

In the board game realm, probably Star Wars Armada.
25  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: HOTAS Flightstick/Throttle Reccomendations on: March 29, 2015, 10:25:06 PM
I highly recommend the CH Products stick and throttle. I think it'll run about $200 to get them both, depending on sales you can find. They're not as flashy as the Saitek stuff, but they're built like tanks and they've been in the business with great reviews since the early PC sim eras.

It has an analog joystick on the throttle which is great for fine control of lateral thrust in Elite Dangerous. It does not have twist for yaw on the joystick, which can be a negative, but twist on joysticks is also a common point of failure so the lack of one is tied to its better reliability.

Every time Kimmel does one of those sidewalk interview things it surprises me how full of shit people are, but I imagine there are probably a hundred other people that just say "I have no idea" and walk away.  You're almost guaranteed that the people who lie with their answers are going to just keep digging themselves and ignorance hole if you push them.

Especially if you push them in front of a camera.

I don't think this is entirely a case of people being full of shit (though that's surely a part of it in Kimmel's video).  It reminds me of this article about people being convinced to remember details about a crime they didn't commit.

Example from the article:
Quote
To test her theory, Loftus gave a group of volunteers the rudimentary outlines of a childhood experience: getting lost in a mall and being rescued by a kindly adult. She told the subjects, falsely, that the scenario was real and had taken place when they were young. (For verisimilitude, Loftus asked their parents for biographical details that she could plant in each story.) Then she debriefed the subjects twice, with the interviews separated by one or two weeks. By the second interview, six of the twenty-four test subjects had internalized the story, weaving in sensory and emotional details of their own. Loftus and other researchers have since used similar techniques to create false memories of near-drownings, animal attacks, and encounters with Bugs Bunny at Disneyland

I don't suppose you've seen a mod that changes Chirpy to just give straight useful information instead of trying to be cutesy/annoying with wording?  Ideally, I'd want Chirpy messages to display in the corner, not have an annoying sound, and just say "Cims are happy about low crime rates" instead of "goin' on vacation and leaving my door unlocked so you can water my plants!"

I've owned and played real guitars for most of my life but somehow that didn't stop Guitar Hero and Rock Band from being fun to play.  I guess if you're skilled enough to learn any new song in a matter of minutes and have extremely accessible bandmates you can have arrive at your house at will it might make Rock Band a little redundant, but I think it will be a while before I hit that point.
