Planning on picking up DOOM unless the reviews all say it sucks. Then again, I somehow suspect that the reviews will be stellar [strike]since most were bought off as usual[/strike]. But it's been a while since I've dropped full price on a game, and My Fair Lady already gave me the go ahead. So why not? PS4 version here I come!

My "days" tend to last about 15 minutes or so total. In that time, I'm up at 6 a.m. and am racing to bed around the midnight - 1:30 a.m. range.

Ok, I'm about 40 hrs into this and have completed the first year. Very, very fun if you enjoy a quiet farming game. I haven't focused on relationships with the town because I honestly don't care. Sure you can get married, but I have enough of that in real life.

Some of the tricks include knowing what to farm and when. In the fall, pumpkins. Pumpkins everywhere. Get enough with solid fertilizer and they can bankroll the next few months. If you see a bush with colored dots all over it, right click on it for berries.

You can load up on berries and sell them, or used them for jams and sell those for more. Also, in the summer grow a ton of hops. Then build a few casks and you can brew pale ale (or wine if you use grapes/fruit). Those sell for a couple hundred each. Takes a lot of time (I basically brewed beer all winter) but when you drop them all in one go, you'll pull a solid chunk of change.

Mining - upgrade your pickaxe first and hit the mine on rainy days (after petting your animals if applicable). The mine in town goes down about 120 levels and on lucky days, you'll score on gems.

I also got the minecarts working first (mainly by accident) and those help so much in warping around town. Much better than wasting resources on single-use totems.

Overall, this is a really fun game once you get into it. It's slow paced, quiet and what I was looking for at the time. DOOM will be here soon enough, and I'll crank up the adrenaline then.

Stardew Valley has its hooks in me and I cannot stop playing. I'm shocked how much fun it is to clear out my farm, or go caving, or do any of the other farming things you can do. Half of my farm is overgrown with trees and shrubs though, mainly because I can only take care of so much at a time. I'm going through the whole first year as my testing ground, then once spring starts over I'll be ready to.

I'm sure I'll continue Grim Dawn since that one thoroughly has my hooks in me, but I'm a bit torn on the console side. I *need* to finish up Arkham Knight, but the stuff I have left to do is all side content to unlock the second ending. I'm wavering between grinding it out to be a completist, or counting main storyline as accomplishment enough and moving on to Fallout 4, Assasin's Creed Syndicate, or Divinity Original Sin. And yes, I'm open to guidance from the hivemind.  icon_biggrin

I'm in the exact same boat, and I just can't force myself to get all the rest of the Riddler trophies. Right now, it comes down to laziness on my part. I may get the achievement for finishing the first ending, YouTube the second actual ending, and someday go back and play New Game+.

Right now, I'm still grinding away on Diablo 3 because I'm a shameless loot whore. On the plus side, it's keeping me from buying new games. I did, however, snag Grim Fandango as that's the free game this month on PSN. My 7-yo is already laughing at it, even though the ideas and story are flying way over his head.

So what are the mods I need to have on this? I saw something about a 4GB mod - is that critical? Also, are there preferred graphic/follower/loot upgrades/updates you guys would recommend? I'm not looking for a full on conversion mod or anything of the sort, but if there are a few that fix obvious issues then I'd be interested to hear what they are.

In the book on the art of Force Awakens, one of the ideas they tossed out was Anakin's force ghost alternating between Anakin and Vader. They have a cool drawing of him as the Star Wars equivalent of Two-Face. So who knows what they'll do with it?

I'll post more when I'm not about to black out at my keyboard, but my brother in law pointed me at a fan theory on Snoke that makes a lot more sense than other theories I've heard.

Spoiler for Hiden:
He's Darth Plagueus, Palpatine's mentor. Remember, he was supposedly the only one who could control death. So if Palpatine poisoned him in his sleep (or did something else) then it's conceivable that this Sith Lord was able to resurrect himself as he had mastered death.

If that's accurate, then they're just getting warmed up on the villains. But I really loved how the three villains didn't get along or much like each other. Seeing the bad guys at each other's throats always provides some extra entertainment.

I've had this since about two sales ago on Steam (or even longer if I really thought about it) and I've never played it. I didn't get in to FallOut 3 that much as something about it just never clicked with me. But I've heard this one is much better and more story based, so I may finally give it a whirl this year as well.

Have to agree with you on that one, Tilt. Hence my rant last year in the Mad Max thread. Collectibles? Done. Collectibles as content? GTFO. I've had it. I'll focus on story and side quests only, but if the side quests are all about FedEx, then I'm out of those as well.

2016 list:

Just Cause 3 (PS4)
LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham (PC)
Stardew Valley (PC) - took it as far as I wanted to, which counts as a win in my book
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (PS4)
Evoland (PC)
Dungeons II (PC)
Rebel Galaxy (PC)
Uncharted 2 (PS4)
Skyrim (PC)
Rebuild 3: Gangs of Deadsville (PC)

Beat Diablo last night and made it a little ways into Act V. If you ignore the side dungeons, it's actually a pretty short game. That being said, the monk is hilarious and awesome. I have his stats and gear rigged in such a way that I have almost a 50% chance to hit critical damage per hit, anyone with >70% of their health gets a massive beatdown, anyone with <20% of their health gets a massive beatdown, I have a skill that lets me blind everyone around me and a set of skills that automatically apply 50% extra damage to blinded enemies, etc. etc. I took Diablo's health down to half with my first hit. I walk into crowds of 20+ and they all just die. I'm routinely stringing together combos of 40+. It's awesome.

NOW it is. The beginning is slooooooooooooooooooooooooow, as if this entire game was basically rigged with high level power looting/leveling in mind, almost like they took everything from WoW and applied it to the Diabloverse. Wait a minute... AM I ON TO SOMETHING?!?! ninja
60  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: on: December 03, 2015, 03:17:21 PM
I have a lot of problems with Man of Steel, but the one thing they nailed was the scale of the DC universe. It's so big that it's overwhelming. BvS looks like it ramps that up to an 11venty!!! and doesn't look back. They haven't even shown off the other Justice Leaguers who are going to show up, so this doesn't give away all the surprises.

That being said, I still don't get why they're basically starting at Dark Knight Returns and going from there. At this point, a Batman origin story can be handled in flashback (like they do here) and then move on. But all the villains and events have been in play for years before we even get there. Hell, they do everything but namecheck Jason Todd in both trailers. We all know who that is, but the average moviegoer may not.

I get that DC is doing things differently than Marvel, and I applaud them for at least making that effort. But I'm going to remain on the fence for a bit longer as to whether this was the best direction. I take comfort in the DCTVU though which is knocking it out of the park. So there's always that.

So today I ordered my first gaming PC in almost 7 years! Since then, I've been predominately Xbox and PlayStation gamer.

However, I'm ready to get back into PC gaming and I need some recommendations and ideas!

I'm really looking for games that I can only get for the pc. Back in the day, I enjoyed casually playing mmorpg's like Everquest 2, Dark Age of Camelot, and Asheron's Call 2.  Loved Diablo II, Age of Empires 2, and Guild Wars.

I'm planning on picking up Fallout 4 and maybe Age of Empires 2 (for old times sake). But other than that, I'm clueless.  I don't get much time anymore to game, so anything that's a time sink, I'm out. (I realize Fallout 4 is a huge game, but I'll take my time playing that).

Any suggestions? Was thinking about a casual mmorpg like The Elder Scrolls Online for my mmorpg fix. Should I even consider WoW? Never tried it.

Any ideas?

Saw a report that the first day patch is ~2GB, so yay for that. I'm a little annoyed that the embargo is on because I need to know right now whether it's something I can skip. Maybe it's the steam sale now, but I have a hard problem spending a full $60 now on games.

I'm surprised that there aren't more and more people simply waiting on the game of the year editions for Fallout/Elder Scrolls. This is especially true if you are a PC gamer. By that time the bugs have been worked out, the mod scene is in full force, and all of the official DLC is available.

This is one of those rare titles that only gets better with a reasonable amount of age.

I've learned with Bethesda games to wait for two years for the mod community to add in the fun. By the time I got around to playing Skyrim, the mods basically made what was a solid game into an exceptional one. I tried like hell to get into Fallout 3 many, many times and I just couldn't. So it's no skin off my teeth to not spend money on Fallout 4.

Just Cause 3 in a few weeks, on the other hand, is a different story.

Brother, I hear you. If you feel even the slightest bit towards needing to be in bed, trust that feeling. I'm good. thumbsup

I'm playing as a Barbarian on PS4. Not... loving the class just yet, though the giant glowy smashy hammer thingie is nice. I'm curious about the Demon Hunter though. Crusaders were meh for me in Diablo 2, but I do recall the Monk from the first Diablo's expansion pack to be pretty awesome for the time. So I'm not beholden to any one character as of yet, especially since I've owned the game for just a few days.

One observation though is that the challenges and number of difficulty unlocks suggest that replaying the game again and again and again is more the point of the game than anything else. Is the core story not very long?

Looks like I salvaged all the lower level items I had stashed, so unfortunately can't be of much help there.  Multi would be good though, let me know when you usually play.

Usually I'm on at night as my PS4 is hooked into the main TV and I have to wait until the family is asleep before firing it up. So maybe 9-ish CST onward tonight.

71  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: [TV] The Flash on: October 28, 2015, 09:06:55 PM
Nope. It ended with some genuinely impressive CGI as the Flash ran through the debris towards the black hole and then BOOM! Credits. I do wonder if that wasn't a known and final FU from Reverse Flash to the Flash... It wouldn't have made much sense though as he would have basically killed his own world, but I still wonder about it.
72  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: [TV] The Flash on: October 27, 2015, 02:10:05 PM
I have to say one of the best surprises was how they handled Grodd. What is, on paper at least, one of the most idiotic things comics have done (and that's saying a lot) is handled more skillfully than I believed possible. If you ignore the ridiculous nature of the character and wonder how they'd put a realistic spin on it, this is the show that succeeds. He's genuinely scary, and I didn't think that was possible.

Oh, and the S1 cliffhanger can go screw itself. It killed me that I couldn't dive right into S2 on the spot. smile

Just started this today and I absolutely love it. It embraces all the fun of the golden age of comics and I like that it treats the characters as intelligent. Jesse Martin scores big with me and brings a huge amount of gravitas to the crazier bits, and it looks like they're gearing up for a whole mess of fun. I do know some of the paths they take later on, and I love the writers for diving into this with both feet. It'd be nice if Zach Snyder et al remembered that comics are supposed to be fun.
75  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Playing through the Uncharted series for the first time on: October 20, 2015, 04:25:48 PM
Yeah I'm also underwhelmed by Uncharted 1. The awful gun combat doesn't help either, nor does the pinpoint precision of the enemy even when set to normal. Eh. I like the characters and the settings thus far and every time I'm not in combat, I'm loving it. But then I have to wade through wave upon wave of guys and I stop caring. So it's a 50/50 game for me right now. I'm looking forward to Uncharted 2 though, so I'm planning on just slogging through the first.
76  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: I will no longer grind for certain achievements. on: October 12, 2015, 10:44:02 PM
The only mission where it was an issue was the Gastown Races (sing this song, Do Dah, Do Dah). There you need your Thunderpoon maxed and the vehicle armor maxed and as strong a set of handling as you can muster. I was able to take the enemy down in about 5 hits following a long string of failures. Also, drop the ramming grill and you should be fine.

No, but I think it was the first to use the tool as a central conceit of the show. And it succeeded, for the most part. Really, who saw the flash forward coming? I still think they massively screwed up with the flash sideways storyline in season 6, but complaining about that has become a cliche in and of itself. icon_biggrin
78  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / I will no longer grind for certain achievements. on: October 12, 2015, 08:41:38 PM
Mad Max broke me. God as my witness, it broke me, and it did so last night as I wrapped up the story. I looked across the map after the story concluded (in a fairly ugly and off-putting way, btw) and saw an endless sea of collectibles. And it broke me.

I recently played through Saint's Row IV: Gat out of Hell and loved the main storyline (the musical bits especially) but 80% of the expansion pack was ginned up collectible hunting. About the same percentage can be applied to Mad Max, or anything recently from UbiSoft, and as such I can't take it anymore. If I happen to kill X monsters with Y gun and a trophy/achievement dings, cool. If not, screw off. Content is content, you lazy ass developers. Content is not collecting 150 red flowers or blowing up 25 cars using only a pistol. That's busy work, and I had enough of that in school. I've enjoyed gaming for a long time, but recent releases have started to wear on me and this is partly why.

I am not paying you a monthly subscription fee to feel like a hamster on a wheel. I am not paying you north of $60 to feel like a hamster on a wheel. Yes, this most likely means I'm done with everything UbiSoft and EA produce, probably ever as this whole pattern seems to be their MO.

Tonight I fire up the first of the Uncharted series courtesy of the Nathan Drake Collection and I'm hoping it's worth it. I don't mind if collectibles are in a game. I do mind if a game is an excuse to hunt for collectibles while slowly grinding your way across a group of loosely connected missions under the guise of a story.

At some point, I need to just finish Arkham Knight. However, I want the real ending and those goddamn Riddler trophies stand in my way. And no, YouTube is not the answer. smile

Finally DL'd the Tumbler the other day and I had to laugh because it handles a lot better than the standard Batmobile. No guns limits you on a lot of the challenges, but if all you're doing is racing or driving around the streets of Gotham, it's a pretty sweet ride.
