AssCreed: Revelations - 360 - Started this a short time ago but it's not grabbing me yet. Liked the AC2 and ACB though. This tower defense can suck my nut though.

My advice on Revelations is to make a beeline through the story missions, and perhaps the Animus Island missions as they unlock.  The side content in that game is possibly the worst in the entire series: it's unfocussed, dull, and on more than one occasion, *terribly* broken.  I know because I earned 100% completion on the single-player content, and it absolutely was not worth the effort.

By contrast, Assassin's Creed III has some of the best side content until you get to Black Flag.  Hunting, upgrading the homestead, and the naval missions are all good fun...which is a good thing because the story is almost unbelievably bad.  You'll think I'm lying at first because things actually get off to a surprisingly strong start, but that game goes off the rails harder than Indigo Prophecy and then spends another ten hours finding new cliffs to tumble over.

-Autistic Angel

Basically all of this. I loved the ending of AC3 and the epilogue of sorts with Connor, but for the life of me I couldn't tell you how or why the ultimate bad guy was the ultimate bad guy. Ditto AC4, though the pirate aspect was nine kinds of awesome.

As for me, I'm on the fence right now on things. XBL has BioShock Infinite as a free download, but I never actually played it. Made it about 20 minutes into the PC version and then was distracted and never went back. Been reading through the Harry Potter series this year and just finished it this week, so I'm stuck between firing up a new game, or cracking open another book. I did finish Far Cry 4 earlier this week. Wonderful world, absolutely useless main story (despite an awesome antagonist).
43  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Thumb sucking on: March 15, 2015, 03:42:39 PM
Children who continue to suck their thumbs well north of 8 or 9 can cause serious damage to their mouths. My wife had to have extensive braces, moreso than any of the rest of us normal brace wearers had to endure, and that was mainly due to her sucking her thumb for so long. Think a less exaggerated version of the headgear in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and you're not far off. Our eldest is six now and we've managed to break him of it (thankfully our 2 yo doesn't do it at all), but we'll still catch him at night or in the morning with it in his mouth. She found this stuff called Mavala which we put on his thumbnail every so often. I know it's worked because he'll wake me up either in the morning or in the middle of the night with, "Daddy, I need some OJ to get rid of the taste in my mouth!"

He hasn't done it in a while so the stuff does work. Pretty sure you can snag some on Amazon.

Bought this on steam the other day prior to checking the system requirements. Annnnnd "Your video card does not support DirectX 11." Awesome. Checked the forums and yup, a GTS 8800 is basically SOL for this one.

So I get to wait until next year to upgrade (too many expenses between now and the end of the year) and maybe I'll get to play it. I'm thinking that Arkham Knight will be the same way, and that's a game I WILL upgrade for.
47  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: [movie] The Avengers 2: Age of Ultron on: October 24, 2014, 02:19:10 AM
This looks to answer the question, "Wouldn't it be awesome if the last hour of Avengers could be the WHOLE movie?"

I'm not going to lie - Spader's Ultron voice gave me chills, especially when it went devoid of emotion for the last line. I do love the look of things here, but I don't know. I'm anxious to see it but I'm really getting tired of all the Marvel movies boiling down to defusing a ticking bomb at the very last second. I have doubts this will be different in that regard, but then I see the Hulk catch the Hulkbuster's punch and I'm back to drooling uncontrollably. retard
48  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PS4/XB1/PC] Dead Island 2 on: June 12, 2014, 01:30:01 AM
State of Decay (along with the DLCs Breakdown and Lifeline) is hands down my favorite zombie game because there is one thing you're concerned with - survival. Dead Island is my second favorite because it got so much right despite the trailer essentially being for a different game. The first two chapters of DI (hotel and town) were pound for pound the best, most authentic experience I've had in the genre despite some technical glitches and a loony menu and weapon select system.

I laughed out loud throughout this trailer and I have no problem with them cranking up the humor from essentially zero. I'm reserving judgment until I see gameplay, but my fingers are crossed.

There is an explicit warning when Lara crosses a point of no return that there are will be no Fast Travel more camps until the end of the game.  Prior to that, you're free to return to previous areas to collect all the goodies you couldn't reach earlier.

Once the game is done, it also allows you load back in to complete any unfinished business.  I picked up all the relics and journal entries, but tapped out before completing all of the "Find X Number of These Hidden Curiosities" challenges.

-Autistic Angel

Funny enough, I'm right there with you. But I figured I'd go ahead since I managed to get most everything the first time through. But I managed to hit 100% on all the maps, but needed about 1500 salvage to max out the bow and the handgun. I didn't feel like hunting that many damn deer so I kicked it to the curb even though I was at 99% complete. Argh.

Fabulous game overall though, despite the repeated instances of withstanding sieges in a game where exploration is the focus and combat definitely is not.

I'm as big a Batman fan as you can get, and I have zero interest in this. Young Jim Gordon is fine but the fact that all the villains appear as kids (with the notable exception of Joker) kills it for me. Because then you wind up with another procedural cop show, only the mob boss is Carmine Falcone and a local wealthy arms dealer has the last name Cobblepot. Oh and somehow this is all connected and a sign of Bruce Wayne's destiny.

56  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Finally making the jump to flatscreens. Yes, finally. on: September 16, 2013, 04:24:06 AM
So my ye olde schoole TV is finally on the fritz so I'm making the jump to flatscreens. The short version as to why not before now is simple - wasn't a priority financially. Those who know my dedication to film may be picking their jaws up right now, but that's how tight the last few several years have been. SO! Now that I'm finally in the market and doing all manner of research, I've come to the conclusion that a good 47" would be perfect. Due to the space in our den, anything bigger wouldn't really work. I mean it might, but I'm preferring to stick with the 45-47" range unless some dazzling deal happens to hit on a 50". Then I'd take that and plan for the den in our next house to work with it more than the current one.

So, I'm looking for some help. I've found some good Panasonics and Samsungs and LGs and Vizios available, and I'm looking to spend between $600 - to maybe 750. Maybe. Right now, I'm leaning against that much and leaning more towards $600-ish, but I might be persuaded if the right TV was available. Do any of you have a preference on where to buy them? I actually found some really good deals over at Sears, and walked through the aisles at Best Buy to see the units in person (also to judge size, but not to buy). There's a Tiger Direct down the street from my work so I might hit them in the next day or so to again actually see the units and maybe mess with the configurations a bit to get a handle on things.

Thoughts and suggestions are very welcome and I hope to get a good sense from you about what brands to avoid, even if the price is outstanding. Thanks!

It's not possible for me to care less about a new DARK game. I've said for years that id makes engines, not games, so this will be an extended tech demo of their new lighting scheme and little else.

I agree with the assessment that they've lost that pioneering spirit and love of games. Which is a shame.

Original gold of the first game as well. Then I got stuck in the second and never looked back. Beat both Ocarina and Twilight Princess (not hard considering they're virtually the same game). But my all time favorite is Link to the Past. Beat it many times and still love it.

I have a Note 2 that I switched to from an iphone and I'll never look back. Bigger screen, quicker response time, easier to switch between apps, and oh it also works a zillion times better as an actual phone.

Apple basically shoehorned phone capabilities into an itouch device whereas Samsung knows how to make an actual phone.

I've loved this show despite my frustrations that they never made much of an attempt at serializing it. It was almost always artifact of the week with a bit of continuing story every so often. The season I finished was the one with Anthony Michael Hall which was especially irritating. It had so much potential and they just pissed it all away.

Finally hit 51 w/ my Gunzerker. Currently I'm farming the Beatdown in Mr. Torgue's Campaign because I'm saving tokens to buy a second uber-handgun. The legendary one I have just absolutely kills everything in my path, so I figured with two of those I might stand half a chance at the raid bosses. I've sunk so much time into this game I'm going to be truly sad when I finally set it down and move on.

Batman: Arkham Dark Knight? Was Batman: Arkam Batman too on the nose? I agree most of the titles suck. Arkham Legends or Arkham Stories or Batman: Tales of Arkham would be better.

At any rate, I love the series. If Rocksteady's not involved, I wont be either.

Wanted to check people's opinions on this and see if there is a consensus view as to where the best place to pick one up is. Yes ATT is my carrier.

For those interested, the entirety of The West Wing is now available. Fabulous series. Seasons 1-4 are terrific and the best writing Aaron Sorkin has ever done, IMO. Season 5 is aimless and just wanders all over the map, but season 6 picks up with a strong energy. But once the campaign gets going in earnest about 3/4 of the way through season 6, every episode from then until the end becomes a must-watch. Terrific, highly entertaining series.

Finally beat it on Wednesday which was wild considering I was completely delirious from the flu at the time. I felt like I was clinging to consciousness while fighting the Warrior. Made the ending just bizarre, which oddly fits in with the overall gameplay. Loads of fun and a better ending than the first game had. I do think I'm going to take a break before going again with the Gunzerker who, for the record, is awesome.

I'm with Tilt. I like the idea of the movie, but I'm not the biggest del Toro fan. His movies have the most lackadaisical pacing and even when he's building to a big finish, I get no sense of tension at all. I'm holding out hope though. I've played several levels now with all four classes and I'm in love. I'm not too impressed with the class skills available for the Berserker, but throwing some Wolverine style claws on him is awesome. My Outlander just rips stuff up as well, and the fact that you can level the weapon from Krull is hilarious to me.

Didn't play much with the embermage, but I loooove the engineer. So many ways to bring death and I can't wait to get the mechs later on. This game, put simply, is the best $20 buy out there. Totally worth every penny and I'm never touching the Diablo franchise again. This game is fast paced, gorgeous to look at, chock full of awesome loot, and genuinely fun to play.
