Picking up Mirrors Edge and IL2 Sturmokvik for $5 each. Man it sucks the games I picked up before for great deals (like Stalker for $5 and the witcher for $19.99) are on sale again for even cheaper than before, and the games that I didn't pull the trigger on before (like Guild Wars and Torchlight) aren't on sale this time around! Torchlight is $9.99

Lots of games this time around but no real deals IMO. The Doom 3 Exp is supposed to be discounted from the $19.99 list price (one of those add to cart to see price deals). When I added it to my cart it was still the same price so maybe a few prices will change... The Journey to Wild Divine: The Passage 114.79 Axis & Allies 24.99 Doom 3 Exp 19.99 Silent Hunter 3 25.99 Driv3r 19.99 Backyard Hockey 19.99 Empire Earth 2 39.99 Chris Sawyer's Locomotion 14.99 Brothers In Arms: Road to Hill 30 25.99 Backyard Skateboarding 17.99 SC: Pandora Tomorrow w/ tshirt 19.99 UT2K4: Editor's Choice 19.88 CSI: Miami 19.99 Rest of the sale here.

I don't really think that movie DVDs are an apples to apples comparison to games.
Movies that get a theatrical release generally make some money back even if it is a net loss since it is the movie theatres that pay for the right to show the movies. The DVD release just gives the movie another chance to recoup the money the studio spent. In effect the film has two ways it can generate revenue.
Video games? From what I can figure it is only one method of revenue and that is sales of units.
In terms of consumer electronics manufacturing processes and technology that reduce the cost of the creation of a product is what lowers prices. Does it always happen? Not exactly but I think it's the primary factor.

I woudn't mind opened games as long as I had the option to return them for any reason. It was great when EB used to let you return PC games just because you didn't like them or they didn't work on your system. Now they only accept returns for defective games, so there's no excuse for the games to have been opened. Well unfortunately the people who abused that policy hurt their bottom line, which EB had to recoup their loss of sales by repackaging those games as new when in fact it had been used, therefore resulting in the lawsuit which forced them to finally change their ways.
