I don't know if I'm more amused by imagining the squirrel as the weapon, or as an accomplice.  Probably the latter.  Squirrel walks just behind and to the side of the wife, punching his fist into his paw threateningly as they approach.

I interpreted it as being the husband was -with- the squirrel. Maybe she caught them en flagrante?

I put in about 45 minutes last night while my two daughter looked on, and all three of us were thoroughly delighted. I was VERY sad I had work to do and couldn't continue playing (and very sad that I won't be able to play tonight either)

If you want to compare apples to oranges, good for you. BC has meant the ability to play your old games on your new system. PS3Phat60GB did it, older PS3 emulated it, and 360 did too (select titles).

Wii *was* BC to GC.

Stuff you rebuy is a rerelease. It isn't compatibility, its programmed on the new platform. So opinion on that is pretty open/closed on that - BC is new being set up to use old, not reselling old on new.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Backward_compatibility

"In telecommunications and computing, a product or technology is backward or downward compatible if it can work with input generated by an older product or technology."

It's not generated by an older product or technology, it's generated by brand new technology. The content may be old, but what generates the content is new  Tongue

Are you saying a game isn't a product?

BC means backwards compatibility, FWIW - not access to re-buy what I already have.

I get what you're saying, but plenty of people said the Wii had the most ultimate backwards compatibility because it could play games from so many older consoles, even though you did have to pay for them.

I interpret backwards compatibility to mean "games from earlier systems can be played on the newer system." I'd wager that that is a more accurate and complete interpretation than "I can play games I own from an earlier system on the newer system". The attribute of ownership isn't explicitly called out, it's an assumption on your part, Purge.

Haven't since the big redesign back in 2011. We've wanted to bring it back, but it hasn't really been a high priority and it's so hard to maintain. You are the first person to mention it since it went away, if that gives you any idea of why we pushed it down the priority list...

ETA: October 12, 2004 for me

Never mind that our PC coverage now equals if not surpasses our console coverage. One of the points of the rebrand was to remove the console centrism of the old brand.

See, there was a time when Gone Gold wasn't just a forum. Console Gold/Gaming Trend never was just a forum.

We became Gaming Trend in the fall of 2004, I believe. Maybe as early as August. I went to E3 that year as part of the team and I remember creating CG cards and other assets for the site. By the time the rug got pulled out from under us we were already on this forum software and were in the middle of planning to make the switch to Gaming Trend, so all it did was really accelerate those plans.

We've got some awesome stuff in the pipeline for this year biggrin Definitely stick around...

[EDIT] Hold up, I'm a year off- we became GT in late October of 2005. I DID go to E3 as part of CG in 2004, however, which may be why I'm mixing things up

I may have covered this before on here somewhere, but I have the DVD versions of the Originals from the Limited Edition collections released in 2006 they look fine, and if a company like Lowry(who did the Bond movie restorations)could get hold of them, they can polish them up even more ready for HD conversion(i have no idea how it is all done,so....er..yeah)

The Bond movies were meticulously restored by frame by frame from the original negatives.

Yup. You can't really make a HD conversion from DVDs. Increasing resolution through some kind of magic algorithm is, sadly, something that only happens in movies and TV shows. Missing data is missing data. A computer can't tell what's missing.

My point being about FOX that they HAD released the originals versions on DVD,and just 7 years(8 if you want to be fussy) ago,so they had the original negatives then,so as i said if a company like Lowry can get hold of them(meaning the original source)..etc etc,if any film needs restoring frame by frame it would be the original Star Wars trilogy,as they have been gobbled up by the Special Editions

Actually, from what I recall, those DVDs are derived from the Laserdisc version, not directly from the negatives.

But this is my first Sony product so that's impossible. I tried to change the password but the authentication check is your birth date and of course it doesn't match what's in their system. I bet you someone typo'd their email and created an account using mine instead.

A quick and easy but perhaps little-known trick is that in Gmail (and only gmail as far as I know) the period character is basically ignored in terms of username uniqueness.

In other words, without having to do anything extra or set anything up beforehand, emails sent to:

 [email protected]
 [email protected]
 [email protected]
 [email protected]
 [email protected]
 [email protected]
(and so on, for each permutation of where you put the dots)

will all arrive at the same mailbox, and you'll be able to create custom filters and rules based on each unique 'to:' address.

I am almost positive she was this way in the beginning of the comics as well. It wasn't until she became more comfortable with her powers that she was less timid. I "think" something about the way the memories work made her feel off so she was an introvert in the beginning.. However, it has been many years since then, so my memories could be off.

Eh, I don't recall that being the case. Her first appearance she was a cackling villain, and sooooo not timid. She was a little timid for, like, 1 or 2 issues after she joined the X-Men, but that was because she was a reformed villain and nobody trusted her. Once she attained a modicum of acceptance she was way more confident with a touch of "I have to prove myself"

This has nothing to do with belittling anyones religion and everything to do about not being tolerant of bigotry and hate.  Robertson happened to cloak his bigotry in in the Bible, hence why its even brought into play.

The reason there's so much confusion here is because his bigotry is mirrored by bigotry in the Bible.  I don't think there's any denying that the Bible is a bigoted, homophobic book in its own right.  So, when attacking his bigotry, he can claim that the Bible is being attacked, despite the fact that his elaborations are even worse than what the Bible said.

Both Phil AND the Bible should be getting condemned by society here, not just one or the other.

Are you going to condemn the Quran and Muhammad while you are at it?

And straw men! Let's condemn straw men as well!

So the Bible is a bigoted homophobic book but the Quran is not?

It is only a strawman if they are not the same on this point. I think you will find they are identical in their feelings on homosexuality. To call one bigoted and homophobic and not the other is disingenuous.

And they need it right in the system too. While getting ready for work this morning, Hark and I discovered that double-tapping the X logo will toggle focus between app and snapped app.

As I said in the comments of that post: If you have to go to great lengths to educate people how to use your interface, you have failed your users. PERIOD.

Flexibility doesn't always equal simple.

The simple tasks are there, and they are accessible without even a button push.

My point is that the first thing this box should do when it fires up is have simple lessons on moving around and how shit works. Perhaps a "I'm new to Xbox" vs "I had a 360. How do things work different?" as the first two options.

That alone clears up a whole bunch of UI issues (for the more hardcore gamers who are going to want to have shortcuts other than -1-put game in -2-play game -3-switch to watch TV).

No, see you're missing a key word: intuitive. If the UI designed doesn't bubble up key functionality that differentiates your product from everything else, it doesn't matter if it's there or not or how many videos or tutorials you post- that functionality will not get used by the majority of your users. Microsoft's UI design across the board has been more misses than hits, and they have demonstrated a definite lack of user-centric design over the years. Metro was the one admirable design they made- when it was for phones and touch screens. This madness of trying to shoehorn it in to every product they make now is a textbook example of what not to do.

Voice recognition with a bunch of other people in the room/background noise is an exercise in futility. I had the same experience at Thanksgiving, and with multiple people milling around (even when they were attempting to be quiet), it just got confused. It's even worse if you have people screaming "Xbox watch porn!!!" at it constantly. When I play in the evenings after the kids are in bed, voice recognition is nearly 100%.

And this is exactly when I can't be using voice commands.

This is also why voice commands are a non-starter for me as well. I have three kids, there is ALWAYS somebody talking in the living room. I've pretty much given up on movies with the whole family at this point.

They are wider apart from each other on the DS4. Not really an issue now. (Yeah, I had the same problem with the DS3)

I will say the controller was AWESOME. Like the 360 but the sticks feel way better. Why oh why can't Sony give up the horrifically bad Dualshock design?! I am still yet to see a playable demo for either system anywhere, so I still haven't had a chance to hold the DS4.

If you had, you would know that they DID give up on the horrifically bad Dualshock design. The PS4 controller is excellent.

They still have the left stick in the position that is not my personal preference so I remain skeptical, but I would like to pick one up and feel it for myself.
Fixed that for you. Essentially, the controller difference is down to personal preference now.

Nah not really.   The Bone controller wipes the floor with even the improved DS4.    I could play the hell out of some Knack with the Bone controller.

the Bone's dainty little thumbsticks kill that controller for me. Cramp city.

They still have the left stick in the position that is not my personal preference so I remain skeptical, but I would like to pick one up and feel it for myself.
Fixed that for you. Essentially, the controller difference is down to personal preference now.

Sigh... yes, of course this is all in my opinion. I didn't really think that needed to be spelled out, but thanks. smile (added a smiley to make it clear I am just clowning around)

For the record the first gamepad I ever owned with an analog stick was a Dualshock 1, so it isn't like I had some MS/Nintendo preference before using a Sony controller. I just don't like having the main movement stick in the lower position since it feels so unnatural. Likewise, while I haven't yet held it, the new Wii U classic controller which has the right stick up where the buttons should be seems equally non-intuitive. In my oh so humble opinion of course. slywink

Trust me, I HATED Playstation controllers before this. I was extremely skeptical. Never thought I'd say I would like a Playstation controller as much as I like the DS4. It just feels really good in my hands. Not having offset sticks doesn't bother me as much as I thought it would, either. After a significant amount of time with both new controllers I was shocked to realize that I much preferred the DS4.
