I'm sorry, but WTF is up with that sig, General?  Is that a quote from a song or from you to the forum?

But, on topic, I have lucid dreaming most of the time.  Every once in a while I have an 'uncomfortable' dream, but I rarely have what I would consider a nightmare.  My wife has nightmares regularly and I think it's because she has anxiety issues.

I stop watching Comedy shows after Homer on the simpsons dissed moses. No joke. Also i think my sense of humor for the past few years has been fading away, so you know.

So wait, you're holding a grudge against a cartoon character?

You are missing the point.  It's not that they included it at all, it's that they included it and didn't alert the ESRB about it in their ratings review.  Rockstar had to know this would blow up in some way, stirring up controversy, generating tons of free press, selling more games.
2652  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Hot Coffee Opinion Piece on: July 14, 2005, 07:33:25 PM
I'm inclined to think that Rockstar should shoulder the blame on this.  Controversy= $$$$$ and they, more than any other game company know this.  I seriously wouldn't be surprised if they leaked info or the means to unlock it themselves.  It pisses me off because now we might see some really stupid oppresive shit handed down as a result.

Happy B-day Ron & Loren!  I wouldv'e popped in sooner but I've been spending the last thrre days of my four day 'vacation'  enjoying the lingering effects of the sinus infection I was so lucky to get after the cold that my loving children decided to bestow on me two weeks ago.  Today it gifted me with an ear infection (yaaay!) and I'm about to celebrate by putting my head through the flimsy sheetrock of my wall.

But hey, at least I saw the kickass new Batman movie yesterday with a buddy of mine, so it wasn't all bad.

Don't let my meandering grouchitude give you pause, though, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!
2664  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Is WW3 inevitable? on: July 03, 2005, 02:50:23 AM
The sky is falling!  The sky is falling!

So, now the US is gonna start WW3?  Seriously, things were a LOT scarier back when we thought it was going to break out between us and USSR.  Bush overseeing the invasion of Iraq is not "Negotations are a no go, you either do what he wants or you get bombed, invaded, and occupied".  and this:  "If we didn't have a warmongering president, China would pose no threat at all to us." is a patently ludicrous statement as they have posed a threat to us for longer than I have been alive.

Don't believe the hype.  Bush is not Hitler, North Korea is run by AN INSANE PERSON that would be acting like a freak even if Mickey Mouse was in office, and whatever goes on in the middle east affects every country in this world thanks to our dependency on oil and it's byproducts.

And please don't take any of this as a pro-Bush diatribe- I think he's a subpar president, just like every president we've had for the last several decades.  We haven't had a real man of quality in that office in years.  Both republicans and democrats are more concerned with extending their power (for the most part) than actually doing the right thing.  The two-party system is killing this nation more than anything, IMHO.  We at least need more voices in the house and senate, and I don't mean just one or two.

Oh, never mind.  I don't even know why I responded to this thread, it's not like I'm going to convince anybody to stop buying into the bullshit of one side or another.  /rant off.

2668  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / US pharmaceutical companies score a victory. on: June 27, 2005, 06:58:44 PM
The problem really lies in the fact that pharmeceutical companies are big business, and are generally more concerned with keeping their revenues up than actually helping people.  You'll notice that most drugs treat the symptoms rather than the illness.  There just isn't as much money to be made from a cure as there is a drug that alleviates symptoms.

How is the console market doing in Africa?

I don't know.  I wasn't talking specifically about the console market in Africa, and I won't pretend to know what kind of economy they have over there.

And when talking about the 'health' of an economy, frivolous expenses have little to do with actual health.

When talking about the health of an economy, there is no distinction between frivolous expenses and non frivolous expenses, only the sale and purchase of goods and services

Indices of such would be stable jobs, a healthy balance of import and export for goods and services, health care, etc.  Consumerism is low on the totem pole regarding 'health', since consumerism is what people do with surplus funds.

Your last sentence contradicts itself.  If the economy wasn't at least partially healthy people wouldn't HAVE surplus funds.  And proper indeces of how good an economy is doing are more along the lines of production, consumer confidence, employment rates, etc.  Health care is not and never has been an indication of a healthy economy.
2673  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / So how's the War on Terra going, George? on: June 21, 2005, 06:56:07 PM
1. What people choose to squander their funds on has little to do with the economic health of the nation.

Wrong.  This is a cornerstone of economics.  Whenever you are discussing the economic health of a nation, you must always consider what the population of said nation is buying and how much.  Spending money and purchasing goods is what drives an economy, what keeps companies providing goods and services in business, what keeps those companies hiring.

Y'know, I was reading up on the 'Downing Street Memos' and came across something very odd, to say the least:

Smith told AP he protected the identity of the source he had obtained the documents from by typing copies of them on plain paper and destroying the originals.

The AP obtained copies of six of the memos (the other two have circulated widely). A senior British official who reviewed the copies said their content appeared authentic. He spoke on condition of anonymity because of the secret nature of the material.

(full article)

Ok, so this guy re-typed the memo and destroyed the originals?  And a 'senior British official'  vouched for their authenticity, but chooses to remain anonymous?  I smell shennanigans.

2676  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Superman vs. Superman II on: June 17, 2005, 04:06:50 PM
I want to see the script to the new movie before I get excited. So many of the previous drafts toyed with the character of Superman or Luthor -- Jesus, one even "revealed" that Luthor was also from Krypton -- that I will have no confidence in this production until someone gives me a reason to.

I read somewhere that not only was Brian Singer going to loosely adhere to the continuity of the first two films, but that he actually sought after and recieved Richard Donner's blessing for the new one.  I know that he started from scratch and all previous takes on the screenplay were totally scrapped.

Honestly, it couldn't be in better hands at this point.  I'm just sad that X-Men 3 is turning into such a train wreck as a result.  There was such promise....
