2601  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Im still waiting for the New Orleans Relief fund ..... on: September 01, 2005, 07:41:36 PM
Honestly, any aid offered is a political gesture for the most part, but as they say, it is the thought that counts.  I knew that other countries would offer their condolences and support, it's just that the major media outlets aren't focusing on that sort of thing right now.  Personally, I wish the media teams would at least move in with all the supplies they can carry with them so that they can do more than just talk to people about how horrible the situation is.  Of course, some of them may be doing that we just don't know.
2602  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Deficits Don't Matter (yeah, right) [P] on: August 30, 2005, 08:27:07 PM
Unbreakable, let me see if I can get at least one FACT through your head:
I AM NOT A REPUBLICAN, neocon, or any of the other names you see fit to call me.  I am fully capable of having an opinion about something without proclaiming allegiance to one political party or another.

Of course you will continue making one bullshit assumption after another about me and anybody else who doesn't agree with you, so carry on!
2603  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Deficits Don't Matter (yeah, right) [P] on: August 30, 2005, 06:56:09 PM
As clear as mud.

1.  You erroneously think that A.  The president is solely responsible for how money is spent and B. that spending/ surplus, etc. trends are defined by presidential administrations.  Sure, they have some influence, but largely it's a runaway train that has been far more influenced by things like the tech bubble, 9/11 and other econimic events.   Saying that the surplus occured because of Clinton's actions doesn't factor in the far more relevant situation of the tech boom and subsequent burst as he was leaving office.

2.  The government has been spending and wasting tax dollars for longer than any of have been alive.  Unless the whole system is changed, there is very little effect that we the people can have on it.  I haven't seen an administration in my lifetime that anybody could consider fiscally responsible.  That 'surplus' that you speak of was a bullshit byproduct of the tech boom that as we all know now was infated bullshit that caused more harm than good.  Perhaps if that surplus were used to prepare for the fallout from the bubble rather than pump up Clinton's popularity, we might've been in better shape.
2604  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Deficits Don't Matter (yeah, right) [P] on: August 30, 2005, 03:02:47 PM
Ah, a voice of reason.  Thanks, Toe, I was going to post something similar but you said it far better than I could have.

I don't understand how people can think that the president has that much influence over the economy.  It just isn't so.

Am i the only one who still buys VHS tapes , instead of DVD's?

Mostly because of the price on DVD's. I can get the whole die hard collection on VHS as a pack at the mall for 12.99, but on DVD its 22 bucks. The extra's too me , is a waste of time. The extra's on rush hour 2 was good, but too short and they showed the same thing in the movies.

I have a couple DVD's like Smallville 1 , 2 and i plan on picking up 3 & 4. But most of the time i just pick up VHS tapes.

Coming soon- The General's monumental plan to revive the VHS, betamax and 8-track tape formats.

Sorry, cheap shot. unibrow

Seriously, picture quality, requiring less shelf space, and the ability to go to anywhere on the disc at a whim (not to mention not having to rewind)  killed VHS for me.  I haven't even looked back.

2615  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Ways to end Piracy on: August 16, 2005, 06:54:26 PM
No I wouldn't.  I don't own a dreamcast. and don't plan to.  You would have much better luck with PC- try online distribution and you can cut a LOT of overhead and not worry about shelf space.
2616  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Ways to end Piracy on: August 16, 2005, 05:50:18 PM
The only way you could possibly make this work is if you came out with a portable Dreamcast.  Not. Going. To. Happen.

Seriously, the fanboy-ism is cute, but don't think for a minute that you are going to make any kind of money off of a system that is no longer supported or even relevant.
2617  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Tipping? on: August 15, 2005, 06:08:31 PM
If you get bad service, my rule of thumb is to not  leave nothing, but leave a very small tip, otherwise the waiter thinks you just forgot.

After having been a waiter for many years I reward good service with 20%+, but  I ABHOR bad service, and want to make sure the server KNOWS I thought it was deplorable.

2620  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / @#$%%$# It's on STEAM!!?!? on: August 13, 2005, 09:54:47 PM
I like steam.  I see online distribution as the only way PC gaming is going to survive soon, and Steam is the best effort to date.  Sure, it isn't perfect, but it's better than starforce, lack of availability, etc.

I would be shocked if the 360 version looks better, and runs better, than the PC version.  I guess we'll see.  I realize the comparison is not apples to apples, but that sure as hell didnt happen with Morrowind.

olaf

Yeah, that's because it was the xbox, not the 360.

when the 360 comes out, it will hang right in there with the top of the line PCs for a while, and it'll be significantly cheaper.....

The list above looks much more appealing... I'm probably going to go put a preorder down this weekend, just in case my new M$ benefits either a) don't kick in by launch, or b) don't cover the XBox 360.  I'm hoping they do though biggrin

You work for Microsoft?  I had an interview with them a while back but they hired for the position internally.  I was bummed.  I would've loved to work on xbox.com....

I'm sorry, but WTF is up with that sig, General?  Is that a quote from a song or from you to the forum?

But, on topic, I have lucid dreaming most of the time.  Every once in a while I have an 'uncomfortable' dream, but I rarely have what I would consider a nightmare.  My wife has nightmares regularly and I think it's because she has anxiety issues.

You are missing the point.  It's not that they included it at all, it's that they included it and didn't alert the ESRB about it in their ratings review.  Rockstar had to know this would blow up in some way, stirring up controversy, generating tons of free press, selling more games.
2635  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Hot Coffee Opinion Piece on: July 14, 2005, 07:33:25 PM
I'm inclined to think that Rockstar should shoulder the blame on this.  Controversy= $$$$$ and they, more than any other game company know this.  I seriously wouldn't be surprised if they leaked info or the means to unlock it themselves.  It pisses me off because now we might see some really stupid oppresive shit handed down as a result.
