But a three hour love letter from Peter Jackson to King Kong? Not so sure about that. I will, however, say that this version of Kong the animal looks unbelievable as does 1920's New York. But a three hour beauty-and-the-beast story with a giant ape and Naomi Watts?

Oh, I am soooo in.  Another 3-hr epic from PJ?  Can there be a better Christmas gift this year?
2522  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / OXM- Where the hell is my new issue?!?!? on: November 03, 2005, 10:03:30 PM
Ok, I'm starting to think that my latest issue of OXM got swiped or something.  I seem to recall reading here that a few of you got yours a couple of weeks ago, but mine is nowhere to be seen.  I'm getting a little irritated because I just saw the new issue on the shelf at the local grocery store and I fail to see what the point of having a subscription is if you don't get issues at least by the street date.

Is this common with these guys?  should I just wait it out?

As a counter point, I married a "first nighter" and we've been together for 14 years and have 3 children.

Thats a rarity, more often than not when people i know do naughty things the first night, they end up wondering what the hell they were thinking shortly thereafter....

2528  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Don't Fear The Boognish! Ween fans, unite! on: November 01, 2005, 11:36:48 PM
Since we were in danger of derailing the other thread, I thought it would be a good idea to start our very own Ween love thread!

The Pod is my all-time favorite album by them, followed closely by Pure Guava and The Mollusk.  I have seen them a total of four times- Chocolate and Cheese tour, 12 Golden Country Hits tour, Mollusk tour, and Quebec tour.  The absolute BEST live show I have ever been to was the 12 GCH tour at Liberty Lunch in Austin, which is apparently legendary now, when their back-up band was composed entirely of Nashville session artists, a bunch of old-schoolers that used to play with all the great country stars of the past as well as Elvis.  Naturally, the country songs from the album were perfect, but when they ripped into classics such as "Dr. Rock"  and "Awesome Sound" it was just fucking incredible.  They were lovin' it!

I once played "So long, Jerry" to a hardcore Deadhead and brought him to tears.  Then I blew his mind by playing "Sketches of Winkle" right after that.  He didn't believe me that they were the same band.

The new b-side CD Shinola has been getting a lot of play here lately.  I rank "The Door" among my favorites and can't wait for the next volume in the series.

Definately Ween will...  I do agree with most of the above posts ^.

Hallelujah!

I introduced my wife's 15 year old cousin to Ween last year, and he is now, dare I say it, a bigger Ween fan than I am!   A couple of days ago I passed on my Mollusk Tour shirt on to him, as it didn't fit me anymore and I felt it was in good hands.

I just can't say enough good things about Ween.  I consistently listen to almost every one of their albums.
2531  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / SONY PS3 to LAUNCH IN 2007 on: October 31, 2005, 06:45:50 PM
Mind you, this isn't that far of a reach if you consider that a late 06 launchin the US and japan would mean an 07 launch in Europe.

I think the most telling thing is that we STILL haven't seen any ingame footage of the ps3.

To clarify:

I am working on them for the staff right now, but if I were to do it for ALL forum members.... :O

Now, I am thinking about offering a custom avatar up for contributions made to the site.  Once I get through the staff I'll figure out what to do for that.

Oh, and thanks biggrin

As for the PS3 controller...  It does look stupid.  Hell, it's pretty much made the transition from mere opinion to cold, hard fact by now. Please find somewhere that says otherwise!  That said, it might somehow play like a dream.  I haven't held one so I don't know.

I still don't understand what the whole controller debate is all about - the controller is practically identical to the current one, only slightly more rounded and with longer handgrips.  It should play almost exactly like the current one - if anything, a little more comfortable.  Here's my tie in to this thread - the PS3 wont be backward compatible with the dual shock.

Just looking at the damn thing made my hands hurt.  Besides, I won't be able to play Zelda on a PS3 so what use is a boomerang?

Now, if the thing has force-feedback, and since Sony seems to be pushing all the uses of the system with the glaring exception of games, marketing it as a 'marital aid'  doesn't seem like something Sony would shy away from.... unibrow
2534  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / X-Box 360 Launch Games -- my assessment on: October 29, 2005, 05:01:57 PM
A couple of things:

1.  I'm confident that Oblivion is coming out when they say it is.  First week of December?

2.  I think you need to give King Kong a second look.  The demo I played yesterday was fantastic, and I heard that the folks responsible for Beyond Good & Evil are involved.

I'm going to be designing custom avatars for all the staff eventually.  I was inspired by the solidarity everyone showed for the new site and Ron needed something special.

Of course, I wanted something special too, but I'm jealous or Ron's- it turned out quite nicely.  I'll be tweeking mine again eventually. Once I have time and once all of the staff gives me their ideas on what they want on theirs, expect to see more.

Sincere apologies for any inconvenience over the past few days. Unfortunately, Console Gold has shut its doors.

There was a deal made for the purchase of this domain over two years ago, which has never been honored. The domain has stayed open an extra year, in order to give those using it, time enough to either honor their obligation, or move. Unfortunately, neither was done.

2547  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / [parenting] MY SON WILL NOT GO TO SLEEP on: October 19, 2005, 07:20:43 AM
Quote from: "Jimmy the Fish"
It's great that it ended up working but pediatricians generally recommend against letting infants getting used to sleeping with the parents. Who knows, maybe letting junior sleep with mom and dad in their bed may work. While there are general recommendations, it always comes down to what works best for you.

Let me just put it this way:  Children have been sleeping with their parents for a hell of a lot longer than pediatricians have been recommending against it.  Hell, it always made more sense to me- if you were a baby, wouldn't you freak if you had to sleep behind bars intead of near mommy?
2548  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / [parenting] MY SON WILL NOT GO TO SLEEP on: October 19, 2005, 06:40:22 AM
My wife and I don't believe in the 'cry it out' method.  Never made much sense to us (at least in the first two years of age).  There is a natural, instinctual reason why babies cry- they need reassurance, they need momma.  They need to know you are there.

Some people might think I'm crazy, but my son Griffin slept with us for the first couple of years.  He never took to the crib, and the fact that we would actually be able to sleep through the entire night with maybe one wake-up for a diaper change.  That was well worth it for me.

After a while, Griffin just decided he wanted to sleep in his own bed.  From day one of that, he rarely, if ever, wanted to come back to our bed, and we figured since we kept him so close in those early months, he was a lot more confident, reassured, and self-reliant as a result.

"I'm not interested and won't be commenting on the mod. The satirical piece entitled 'A Modest Video Game Proposal' was intended to highlight the patent hypocrisy and recklessness exhibited by the video game industry's willingness to target cops, women, homosexuals, and other groups with some of their violent games. To be fair, though, you can't expect a bunch of gamers to understand the satire if they think that Jonathon Swift, the author of 'A Modest Proposal,' is the name of a new Nike running shoe...

...I will say this though, the 'video game community' (what's next, 'the necromancy community'?) surely seems exercised about someone who is a 'joke' and who is accomplishing nothing. You all seem rather bothered and worried about a nonentity. God is in this battle, and I am privileged to be a foot soldier. You all should be concerned, not about me, but about Him."
