It was never enabled, and we aren't going to enable it. Your brain has a built-in ignore feature. If people can't be civil in this tread, report them and they will be dealt with accordingly or the tread will be locked.

I'm not going to get into the specifics of why we aren't going to enable the feature, suffice to say that the reasons against it were more than compelling. We got through elections without this feature we can get through these console launches.

SMF has a built-in ignore function, right?  We just have it disabled?  Is there any way to have mods manually force certain people to have each other on ignore?

We don't have it enabled because we all decided it was a stupid feature that could result in a broken experience at times. The idea was that our forum-goers are mature enough to self-regulate for the most part and hopefully knew when to chill the fuck out. If you gotta ignore someone or be ignored, you need to step away from your keyboard.

It really makes the Vita a portable PS4.

Portable is debatable. I don't consider it that portable with the portability is the range of my home network.

Add Vita TV to the mix and you can take it over the internet

Wait wait... what? Potential game changer for me.

Remote play works over the internet. That has been known for awhile. Combine that with the Vita TV and you can bring your PS4 virtually to any TV.

But it only works over wifi out of the box. Over the internet the Vita TV is required

Not according to what we've been told recently.

I must have missed that, then

COD copy and pastes ending

I suppose it's a spoiler since it shows the ending.    But this is insane.... I mean it's literally the same ending.

That's not the ending of Ghosts. That's in the first 10 minutes.

I think we'd all be surprised at how often animations are re-used in games, to be honest.

Animations, sure. But cutscenes? All they've done is to replay the same cutscene with replaced models.

Well, it's not really a cutscene, it's more of a moment where you aren't controlling the character. I wouldn't even classify it as an in-game cutscene, more like a scripted instance

I believe the MP3 streaming is done via a method I can't remember the name of right now, where your computer has to "push" the MP3 to the Xbox One. In other words, you can't start playback from the console, but must do so from the PC. That makes their playback method worthless to most people, I would think. That's why I said they don't support MP3s. If this has changed since the announcement last week, I'd love to hear about it.
If it doesn't I'm 98% out on both consoles.  Most of my gaming is PC these days and about 50% of what I use my console for is streaming my lossless WMA files to my living room during gatherings and parties.  What a lame feature to remove.

There are much cheaper and much better devices that can do this

Sounds like the PS4 version is going to pay for 1080p.

You have to wonder what the hell these people think they're doing in game development if they can't make this aging engine run smoothly on a brand new console when other people can make MUCH better looking engines run well on those same consoles.

Honestly, I only saw framerate issues during the single player campaign and those were far and few between.

Any of those reviews focus primarily on multiplayer?  The first two I clicked on are "blah blah blah single player" and "blah blah blah new multiplayer modes."  I really just want to hear how the new maps are, how well the perks/killstreaks are balanced, how good the weapons feel, whether or not dedicated servers improve things, etc.

It would be impossible for an advance review to know how well the dedicated servers improve things. That will bear out in the coming days.

Yeah, I don't understand the indie game emphasis. It's probably because I already have two platforms to play cheap indie titles on - a PC and an iPad. Lord knows I don't need a $400 console on top of it to play games like that. I can see why people without a PC would be into it, but for me personally it's not much of an incentive.

Sony's new love for indie gaming is what tipped my favor to the PS4. The next great gaming experiences are forged in the crucible of indie development. I think it's a brilliant strategy.

The best part of the XBone controller are the sticks. love the grip on the sides - if you brush your finger across it, it "grips" your fingerprint - making it much easier to get a higher fidelity response. The PS4's sticks feel a lot like 360s, which is not a bad thing.

Having just used both extensively, I actually HATE the Xbone's sticks- they are MUCH smaller and very dainty compared to the PS4's. Prolonged play with it made my thumbs sore and I don't see why they changed it up from the 360 so drastically.

Was VERY surprised at just how good the PS4 controller felt in my hand. I'll need more time with it but I actually think it may supplant the 360 controller as my favorite controller.

Yeah... haven't had a long time with the XB1 controller - I didn't find the sticks to be a problem at all. Like I said, I loved the grip on the top/sides. My concerned with prolonged use is the vibration in the fingertips causing sensitivity issues - mind you, I was driving through gravel on Forza for me to feel that way. smile

The PS4 triggers feel really good, but that middle bit between the L1/L2 always caught my finger, and I also found that to use the triggers and feel natural, I had to bend my finger outwards. I'll post a pic tonight.

There was a general sense of disappointment regarding the sticks on the Xbone controller at the event I was at (which I can't discuss at this time). Suffice to say, pushing down on the thumbsticks was the primary issue and the smaller size of the sticks contributed very negatively to the experience. It sucks, because my gripe with the traditional playstation controller design has been that they felt made for tinier hands than mine, and the 360 controller felt just right.

I was just thinking about this after reading the Batman review.  Pretty much everyone else grades from 70-100.  If I'm a publisher, why would I ever want to send you a prerelease copy of a game?  Even a decent score from you will drag down my metacritic/gamerankings average.  It might get you more readers as some people like to check out the outliers, but if I were a publisher, I'd cut you off.

What about Joystiq? Quarter to Three? Giant Bomb? Hell, even Metacritic assumes a larger range. There are MANY sites out there that don't adhere to this unspoken 70-100, enough to where I'd say the percentage of sites that do only have a slight majority. They continue to get product to review.

We are holding ourselves to a higher standard. High scoring reviews on this site will now mean something. We've been 'cut off' and cut on for far more whimsical reasons in the past, this will change very little.

Stupid China's terrible and corrupt labor and business culture. I hate having to worry about this with every big purchase.
The worst thing about this particular instance is that consumers get screwed either way because there's not a lot of choice when it comes to games consoles. We don't have much power to influence the console manufacturers here. Only for electronics where there is actual choice do we get the chance to make a difference. I know Apple uses Foxconn extensively, despite getting grilled about it in the media multiple times. Don't buy iPhones or iPads. Buy competing products that don't use labor practices that equate to slavery. I think some of their competitors do the same thing (Samsung maybe?) but I don't remember the details at the moment.

All of them do it. ALL of them. Don't buy the horseshit that it's just Apple. Our electronics empire is built on the back of cheap asian labor, and it's not going to stop until China changes their labor laws

Curious, what width resolution are you coding for?

Well, the default right now is optimized for screen width of 1280 (page width is about 1135, leaving some gutter on either side), but the design was optimized to be responsive- I've got a whole new theme I'm working on that is responsive that won't be completely ready until after the fall rush. There were a few things that we wanted pushed before then, however, hence the current theme adjustments and new index page. pros and cons that I see (I'm assuming this is a work in progress and you'll be looking for feedback):

thumbsdown the light blue or light grey text on a white background used for categories, dates and names is not visually friendly.

icon_neutral miss the quick text blurbs for everything but I imagine the articles will get more page hits that way.

icon_confused the tooltip that pops up for each article says 'permalink to xxxx'.  should that be popping up like that?

thumbsup like the scrolling for the reviews, but...

icon_frown to me it seems poorly placed; 4 news bits then 2 rows of reviews then more news.  maybe if the review bar was placed and scrolled vertically on the side (remember, some people like it vertical slywink)?  not sure what resoultion you are optimizing the page for, but if it is 1920x1080 or higher you got room on either side.

I've adjusted the font weight and the shade of blue, let me know if that helps

killed the permalink bit on the tooltips

The way we've partitioned different kinds of content will make sense as we build on this. The primary goal is to surface more of our original content as opposed to just news (old layout- that stuff got buried quickly). Reviews tend to get featured more often than other content and will take top billing quite often, and there are pending menu improvements that will make other content even more accessible.

Yep, we are working on launching a mobile-friendly version very soon and that'll address what you are seeing.  And I don't mean a "it kinda works", I mean a fully-responsive and well-structured mobile site.   This is just the first step towards that - the mobile version is coming very soon.  smile

I'm sure you get a large variety of use cases, but FYI when I'm browsing on my iDevices and see a mobile version of a site the first thing I do is try and get to the full version of the site, no matter how snazzy the mobile version is.

To be clear, I will be fixing some bugs so that the site is more compatible with mobile, but we will be implementing a responsive design that will automatically adjust to the screen size soon.

More candid feedback:

1) Get rid of the social media crap in the top bar. Or make it smaller. Otherwise it looks like shit for people who don't let the browser window take up the whole screen; the social media stuff wraps, making the bar double-sized.

2) Links to ZergNet? Tacky. Actually clicked a link thinking it's a link to another article on the size. Ended up on ZergNet. Hope you guys get paid dearly for those.
