I would see it only if they got Gilbert Gottfried to voice Darth Vader.

Hi! Thanks for signing up to the GOG.com beta!
We just want to give you a quick update about GOG.com and the upcoming closed beta which will give you early access to the GOG.com experience.

The announcement of GOG.com surprised everybody - gaming media, gamers and the competition. But it was your reaction to our initiative that exceeded our wildest expectations. We would like to thank you very much for showing such incredible interest in GOG.com. We were originally planning to launch the closed beta on August 1 for a small set of people, but our plans have changed and we're delaying the beta a bit. Thanks for your support and see you soon on GOG.com!

Cheers,
GOG.com Team

It seems to be a national thing - in the us, Mamma Mia hasnt done that well, whereas in the UK its the number one box office hit so far...4,5 million pounds so far.

Americans are...generally speaking, hollywood fixated, movie-wise, and mamma mia smells very european I suspect, thus not generating that much interest.

thats my take on it, anyways

Not to mention the fact that ABBA sucks.

Not a single guess?  I thought it would be easy, since it comes from a classic of fantasy films.
16  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Political Machine 2008 Impressions on: June 17, 2008, 08:50:33 PM
Just installed and looked at it briefly.  Gameplay seems virtually identical to the first, which I only thought was ok, but it's worth $20 if it helps Stardock keep doing what they are doing.

Just got it.  I haven't looked at it very closely, but using it to install Political Machine was a piece of cake.  If only GamersGate would use a similar download program

Also, I can't imagine you will need to pay rent on that place in the next couple months. smile

The one attorney I talked to (my brother-in-law) suggested that even with no one to pay rent to on July 1 (the date the house is scheduled to be auctioned), we should  put the rent money aside in a separate account.  That way, should it ever become an issue, we can prove that we were still ready, willing, and able to pay rent.
22  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Trailers For Sale Or Let on: June 15, 2008, 11:43:50 AM
Our lease expired the end of May, and we had arranged to stay month-to-month while we looked for a lease-purchase (circumstances prevent me getting a loan for another year or so).  here was a lease, the foreclosure negates it.

Apparently the foreclosure was filed April 1, the landlord had 3 months to do something about it and chose to do nothing and keep it a secret. I don't think the trustee's office knows this is a rental property, because the landlord has been getting official-looking mail here for some time (which he only picked up once a month when he came for the rent), and he is still listed as the resident on the notice we got yesterday.

I need to talk to a tennant's advocacy group tomorrow, because I think once the auction takes place, they would still have to file eviction procedings against us, and that should buy us another month or two.

The good news is we don't have to weed the yard today
23  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Trailers For Sale Or Let on: June 15, 2008, 12:34:44 AM
So we found out today (via a notice taped to the garage door) that the house we are renting is in foreclosure and will be auctioned off in a trustee sale July 1.   The landlord's (voice) mailbox is full, so we can't reach him.  Whoopee!

When I first got into this hobby almost 30 years ago, I used to love RPG's and still do - in theory.  But nowadays when I'm in the middle of one, I eventually stop and think "Wait - I'm 56 and playing an elf who's talking to a gnome about goblins.  This is no way for a grown man to behave".  I also no longer have 100+ hours to put into a single game. Then I go back to something more "adult", like In Nomine or Grigsby's new WBtS.  Even so-called "mature" fare like Mass Effect seemed silly once the shiny newness wore off.

Strangely, I did not have that reaction to The Witcher (and no, not because of the digital hooters).  I'm hoping I can get back into it when the mega-patch is finally released.  I'm also hoping I can get into Fallout 3, and will probably buy it anyway.

Got it, downloaded it. With 4 playable tutorials, 18(!) video tutorials, and a 200-pg. manual, this seems like a steeper learning curve than WaW.  Will post impressions once I have spent a little more time with it, but it seems like a serious undertaking.
27  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Name that movie on: June 11, 2008, 02:57:59 PM
Correct.  Although the line actually comes from Son of Ali Baba, it has traditionally been associated with Prince.
28  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: The War of Northern Aggression on: June 11, 2008, 10:39:59 AM
My biggest beef with the WWII game was the scripting - the A.I. was too predictable.  Of course, that's true with most WW II games.  Supposedly that has been eliminated in the new version of the engine.

33  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Mass Effect Question on: June 09, 2008, 11:22:12 PM
I have a couple of days off so I bit the bullet.  So far I finished the Prologue and am wandering around the Citadel.   Here's my question:

Is there a way to switch active characters ala the KOTOR's?, or when you need to use a skill (say Encryption) does it automatically use the highest level amongst the character's in your party?  Because if that's the case they might have just as well made this a one character jack-of-all-trades game, and that would really suck.

On the one hand, I'm excited because I loved Colonization, but I'm not sure it fits with the Civ IV engine.  Thise screen shots make it look like just another mod, and unless word of mouth is outstanding I may take a wait-and-see on this one.

I'm confused by this statement.  Colonization was to the Civ 1 engine what this looks to be to the Civ IV engine.  What about the Civ IV engine makes this work any less well?

I had forgotten that.  You're right.  I stand corrected.

TK-421 has it.

Sorry for the delay, but I've been busy with my Home Show this week, and haven't been on line very much.

And for those not familiar with my postings in another now-defoonct site, my screenshots tend to be from either a)Grade Z MST-level fantasy/SF from the 50's and 60's (see Eye, Crawling), b)obscure Film Noirs, or c)classics from the 20's and 30's some of you may never even have heard ofn let alone seen.
