makes the most sense, We wanderers started from the Gone Gold forums over 11 years ago and are still around today, and GT and OO forum people are always welcome, heck most are already wanderers.  Forums and Voice chat and all the rest are always on and working.

Most important question never answered....  what type of options have the developers built into the game that deals with "spouse aggro"...  Some sort of 3rd party cone of silence perhaps?

ah sweet , the crowd noise of intellivision sports games,  takes me back.

although if you watch the commercial, its kind of funny they are talking about how authentic intellivision baseball is as you watch the RF makes a force out at 2nd.  ( Umm that doesnt happen in baseball)

i have a feeling next gen console will have a feature that attaches a game to the individual console.  Bye bye used game sales.

Eb games days are numbered eitherway,  look at blockbuster,  bankruptcy is just around the corner for them. Downloadable content is the wave of the future.
from my comment 2 years ago.....ummm Told ya it was coming.

Happened to Seinfeld too, one of my most favorite shows all time, but the ending was horrid, awful, couldnt be worse if you tried.
166  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: New Xbox reveal next year?(and Timesplitters 4 for next gen) on: March 14, 2012, 02:16:24 PM
my prediction which is the same prediction I have had for years is, no used games, games will be tied to the unit they are initally downloaded too ( they may be so so kind and allow you to assign two units per game)  Used games are gonna be a thing of the past, the hardware and software companies make no money on them, so why should they continue to allow them? ( its always about the money) Second, I agree that downloading and so forth will have people hitting ISP user monthly caps so of course what does that mean?  Well what's old is new again, they ( internet providers) will simply introduce a new tier of usage ( the media user tier and charge you 75 bucks a month instead of the current 50)  money money money.

actually software development is not really slow, compared to the rest of the business universe. Excuses are pretty shallow in an endeavor such as this with so many resources.

FYI- I work in software development.

I honestly think that the technology used needs to change before we will see someone make the changes needed to "get it right"
I honestly dont think it has much to do with tech at all at this point. It has everything thing to do with design. The entire focus on these games are wrong.  This whole character/level/power as the main focus simply isnt right.  In real life we care, fight, and live for our relationships, community, homes, and country etc.  I see NONE of that in any MMO designs.  Its all about following some 40 year old D&D design.  Its ridiculous.

Allow players a vivid dynamic world to inhabit,  a place to socialize, build relationships, dynamic homes and dwellings and create the atomsphere and drama of on going wars, invasions, conflicts etc.  Then you have people emotionally attached to the game and world.    This whole static world where you go around like a ten year old, saying Im a cool guy level 50 paladin with some purps... aint I cool...  I mean really.... its pathetic really.
169  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic (dev posts, news items, fan sites etc.) on: February 11, 2012, 01:47:07 AM
someone at some point will get a MMO right, and they will make BILLIONS.  So far, these clowns arent even close.  The genre is 20 years old, and its going backwards. Lets hope GW2, or TSW  move things forward a bit.
170  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: World of Planes/Warplanes on: January 21, 2012, 04:12:01 AM
you compete fine, but its much easier if you pay, therefore without paying your are handicapping yourself.

Personally I dont like the whole F2P model, there is very lil free about them.

OK, thanks,  Im just curious, they have acknowledged they spent 200 MILLION to make this game.  Kinda thought the graphics would be a lil better for that kinda bread.
172  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic Screenshot thread on: January 20, 2012, 08:28:39 PM
are the graphics really this bad, or does the screenies just not do the game justice?
173  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: World of Planes/Warplanes on: January 20, 2012, 08:27:06 PM
f2P?  sure, free to lose if you dont pony up some cash, just like most "f2P'.

I call the F2bF  as in "free to be fodder"

That being said, WoT was and is a fairly fun and well made game, it just aint free if you want to compete.
174  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: 10 years of Camelot on: January 05, 2012, 10:00:54 PM
I agree the set up for that game has not been surpassed.

It is amazing that others have not followed.  3 realms with a homeland to pve in, and a connecting frontier to pvp in. So simple , yet none follows suit.

For sure DAOC had some balancing issues and so forth, bt why isnt part 2 being made is beyond me.  In an industry that is all about sequels, the only one I want made, isnt being made.

I just dont get it.

thanks for the heads up, will pick it up in year or so, by then they will have fixed any problems and will probably be 50% cheaper.  I never feel that need to be "first" anymore,  why bother, rather have the game play right, and pay less for the privilege.

one day i hope software game development software becomes user friendly enough for the average computer nerd to create marketable games, because the talent is in the masses, not the studios.

Studios seem not able to , not willing to take any risk. Often is the case when your playing with someone elses money.

with guild battles and now the whole meta world war thing, there is no real end.  There is actually a reason to fight.  Unlike say, most every other MMO out there.  Overarching meta games are a must in MMO IMHO, yet we rarely see them.

but the conversation think is not only doable, but is done a bit in some MMOs
not really, I can stand next to the npc and watch him tell players different stories at different points, the story , the npc the world is static, nothing changes. Being in a group and the npc is telling you things, and half the group says, yeah, I already did that, leads to a crappy immersive experience.

As for a statue that only you can see,  again what is the point of playing an MMO?

There are far too many people out there who will get their thrills by simply ruining other peoples gamer experience.
on most servers you can only do that to enemy factions, not your own.

but they also clearly aren't forcing you to be locked down to a server, presumably so that you can always join up with your friends easily.  And so you don't have to worry about overcrowded servers or queues, or the inverse.
but why would you jump around servers?  makes no sense, why would friends play on servers all over the place.  Your server is your home, and if you play w pvp , its the server you fight for.  And " some " restrictions could mean quite a bit.  I see people possibly jumping a server once or possibly twice before settling in, but  hardly see it happening very often, why would it.  GW2 is not like GW, GW2 servers are a persistent world, with persistent people and friends.

But it does seem to be a happy medium, so you play where you want and dont have to wait til some " server transfer" ability down the road.

but for the most part in WFs in the 40s
noone is talking about the 40's . we are talking endgame.  Rogues are OK at best, but mostly underpowered.  This new patch may change things, but for me, the pvp in this game is lacking and boring.

Stillmoor really Hark?  how is ganking someone during their dailies pvp?  its just annoying to people.  As I stated I played nothing but rogue since start, racked up around 400,000 favor. Dont think im resubbing. I did overall win way more wfs than I lost, so its not sour apples either, just boring ,unbalanced, design.  Getting killed over and over by some 14 your olds spamming macros in an overpowered class is hardly what I call good design.
196  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Rift on: May 11, 2011, 02:23:18 AM
I was on sunrest from day 1 too, open pvp is basically none existent,  other than some gate ganking and the like. Hell noone left the city at 50.  You just did dailies, ran raids, and those that pvp, pop wfs. Iam in the Guardian guild, and we have fueds with some defiant guilds, yet even now , open pvp really doesnt happen.

197  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Rift on: May 11, 2011, 02:10:59 AM
on please Hark, rogues suck in pvp wfs, even you admit you dont play wfs.  Sure rogues could gank people in wpvp since people were not looking for pvp in the world since its non existant.

If you tried your same strategy in wfs than you did in wpvp , you would of been eaten alive.   You pop out of stealth, before you can finish someone off, you get stunned, your victim healed, and since likely you are near the front lines at this point with your pants down, you get blown up.  Pyros melt face in a second or two.

I lived it, I had over 20,000 kills in wfs, and if I was a pyro I could of doubled that probably.

Rifestalkers were decent as runners, and horn grabbers,  not much else.  I had over 10k hits, tons of immunity etc, but I hit like a feather. Sins were good only in wpvp, all range rogues were jokes. NBs were OK,  but just that OK,    Pyros have wrecked pvp , I have never ever seen a more OP class ever in all my days of pvp.

I'm not quite sure which features are like DAOC
Huh? its exactly like DAOC. World PVP in GW2 has 3 factions ( 3 servers fighting each other). Your server is YOUR FACTION.  You fight in the mists.  Each server has a portal from their world into the mist ( pvp world)  first area is your servers pvp home land, which leads to mid ground where you have a keep as do all the other servers( factions) you fight over keeps, and their supply lines.  If you take down a faction/servers keep, you can invade their homeland pvp area, where you can do more damage.  Server/faction gain buufs and rewards for beating up other factions and taken their keeps.  Sound familiar.  Its basically just like DAOC, but just fixed up and tweaked.  You fight for your server, you have to take and protect keeps, your entire server will be effected by pvp outcomes. All this came out in an interview just this week.

Quote
The odd thing is it sounds like you can change worlds/servers fairly easily
I dont see where you see this at all, You are very attached to your server, that is where you character and story is. Your home instance, your home you build via pve experience exist.  Your server is your faction. I dont see why or how transferring to another server would be easy or very common.

200  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic announced on: May 10, 2011, 11:50:27 PM
For me, a pet peeve in all game single players back in the day, and MMO mostly now is the amnesia problem.  Nothing worse that playing a game, Responding to a long quest line from an NPC, and once it over, its right back to " Hello stranger can you help save my daughter from the dragon"?  wtf ol dude, I just did , five minutes ago....  Most single player games have since fixed this, although usually pretty sub par.  MMO have never addressed it, because they cant, and it creates a lifeless static world.

I look into my magic 8 ball, and what I predict in the next tens years.... I see sandbox worlds, where they create the world, you play in it, I also think static/dynamic encounters like Rifts rift and GW2 planned ones will become the norm. I also think we need to ..wait for it...... bring back the GM.    There is enough money and technology in MMOS now, That for the life of me, I dont get why each server doesnt have 1 or 2 GMS, who have a whole tool chest of cool creatures, and encounter tool sets to select from and manipulate ,  They can create and take control of giant boss world mobs.  There can be and should be cool unique world events happening almost every other day or so in MMO worlds. You can imagine the life and uniqueness this would bring to the game.  Something desperately needed.  So as the saying goes, everything old is new again.  GM's were the staple of DD, and they are a key missing element to MMO and their story telling.

GMS,  I think its time they make a comeback.
