I agree wonderplug, I am just an software developer who is just a part time Oculus developer and part of the Oculus community, and a wanted to stop by the simply discuss the huge turmoil that has hit the Oculus since this merger, but this forum doesnt seem to be what it once was and  I have been around since gone gold days,  its a shame...  have a nice day fellas.

I think it's ridiculous, but you are certainly entitled to your opinion
I kinda agree with wonderplug.  As you are an editor of this site I find you comments entirely unprofessional.

the private developer board you're referring to
so according to you.  Game community and nerds reaction doesnt matter. The industy community reaction doesnt matter. The developer board on Oculus own site reaction  ( you know the guys actually making the games for Oculus.. doesnt matter)... all that matter I guess is .....................your opinion...good to know.

I think you need to take a few days to calm down, because you are clearly letting your emotions get the better of you.
my emotions?  huh? this isnt about me, never was.  I simply watched the private developer boards implode over the last day wth game developers cancelling their DK2 orders, I thought I would share that with people here, but you guys already have all the answers, so I guess Im wasting my time.

I just think it's an incredibly myopic outlook
why dont you post that opinion on your myspace account..I mean Murdoch bought it, one of the largest media companies in the world, it must be huge by now... thats still a thing right... oh thats right.. without community backing you..you got nothing... and Facebook is now starting to face the same thing....and Oculus will go for the ride.....its all about community

he Reddit thing you linked to?
or the industry site, or I could link you to the oculus developer boards which I am part of but they are private .  But hey you guys keep thinking you know whats going on here. Who made the Oculus Rift what it is today?  the nerds, techies, the community that surrounds it, without their support, it will never get the footing needed. They'll likely only be one winner in this fight, and now the community is looking for someone new to back... and yet you think this is a good thing for Oculus?

Horseshit. Pure horseshit.
oh please what do you know, are you part of the Oculus community? I havent seen you in the Oculus developers boards over these past few years.  You have no idea what your talking about. Without the backing of the community, a developer has nothing. You act as start up can never be successful unless purchased and backed by some big large established company, and that simply is "horseshit" as you say

It's not like we have to log in to Facebook to use the Oculus Rift either, so what kind of privacy breaching are they supposed to be doing? This isn't an online service.
How do you know?  fact is you just made that up.  We have no idea how this will effect things, all we know as of a few days ago it would of been madeness to think you would have to have a facebook account to play with the Oculus, now..not so much.  Did you even listen to what Zuckerberg said, even in PR spin he still mentioned  socialization is now a big part of this... ugh
9  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Oculus Rift VR headset on: March 26, 2014, 02:45:16 PM
VR will be a battefield in these upcoming years, Oculus wasnt the only company doing this.. but it was the one the "nerds" were pushing for, they had the backing on the indies, the developers like NOtch who like or not have changed the industry.   Whoever wins the VR battle is going to need to backing of the indies, the nerds, the techies, Oculus just lost all of that. Will we move toward SOny's new VR product, or a new start up, or possibly will Valve get into the game now that they were just screwed by Oculus and have the best tech in VR anyway ( just crazy expensive)?

take a look at reddit http://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/

take a look at game professional sites
http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2014-03-25-facebook-acquiring-oculus-for-USD2-billion

is that the PR you really want after a merger?

We were all pulling for Oculus, now we arent, thats the simple truth.  Noone wants this technology tied to freakin Facebook in anyway. The takeaway.. the winner in all of this is Sony and other starts ups, the battle for VR is now wide open again and the people champion, The Rift just took a dive.

and my enthusiasm just went from about 95% to 5%  with this nightmare announcement that Facebook has bought Oculus.   And it seems I am not alone, the community surrounding the Oculus is just imploding with hate and disappointment with the company.

15  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: 30 days until launch. Which system are you getting? on: October 18, 2013, 08:41:48 PM
I am getting the xbone one because of Project Spark, and the kinect2 with the xbox1 can be used as a mo cap device for animation.  Which is really mindblowing when you think about it. What use to be rare and expensive and reserved for only the big developers will now be able to be done in living rooms.

The topper is that mo cap will only work with the kinect 2, which comes with the xbox1, the windows version of kinect 2 wont be out til next summer and will be over 300 just by itself.  It make buying the xbox1 a no brainer for me.

16  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Xbox One Discussion on: October 02, 2013, 02:38:15 AM
worried about Microsoft?  Huh?  Even in this so so world economy they are showing 4 to 6 billion dollar PROFIT each quarter.  A company with quarterly revenues of 20+ billion with 4 billion quarterly Profit, neednt worry anyone.

Also try to find an xboxone to preorder now, its not easy, took me a few days these week to find one retailer who isnt sold out. ( Now I know they are limiting them to try to create buzz I m sure, but they have already surpassed xbox360 preorders, and its still 6 weeks away and it was a real real pain in the ass to find one., not a special day one, one mind you, just a regular xboxone)
17  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Xbox One Discussion on: September 08, 2013, 04:07:48 AM
as far as that first commercial, I just think that has to do with their cross promotions and brand tie in with the NFL.  Look around the NFL sidelines beginning today and you will see xbox stuff and logo on lots of things

18  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Xbox One Discussion on: September 07, 2013, 08:11:05 PM
yeah its windows 8 too, and looks to stay that way. I was gonna get a Surface Pro, but after seeing how you can use the kinect to animate in the game ( which is such a cool and easy way to do animation) and looking at the high price of a pc kinect, the Xbox one is a steal at 500, when you compare.  Project Spark actually has a pretty high spec, so cheap tablets or laptops are out.  You need a decent gpu along with an i5 or higher, and windows 8 on a desktop really doesnt make sense, so xbox one it is.
19  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Xbox One Discussion on: September 07, 2013, 07:01:00 PM
I went from a now way in hell I get the xbone, to, umm I'll be getting one for sure this fall.  It has everything to do with Project Spark.

21  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Oculus Rift VR headset on: August 09, 2013, 12:22:38 AM
I agree C-wolf the community on oculus developer site and forums is quite helpful and friendly, and I agree, I think even when the Oculus comes out there may be a time where it still is a geek hardcore gadget at first. But I think the oculus has the "it" factor. I have seen about 15 people demo it ( one of my software buddies has one) and I think everyone was pretty floored by it and we all, to the person said,  yeah Im getting it.  This tech will sell itself once released.  I have one pretty decent gaming rig right now, but I do plan on buying an upgraded one for the oculus, nothing crazy maybe a 1200 or so budget, so that along with the oculus would be around 1500, and to be honest 1500 for the oculus running hd at 60fps is a no brainer buy ( and even a bargain imho)

as for the sickness I noticed it on games in which I had to walk around, The Tuscany one etc,  I think not having that center of gravity plays with your mind since it sort of being fooled into thinking its there.  The games in which I could sit down ( cockpit games) i could play them all day.  They were incredible.  Just thinking of something like Star citizen using the oculus makes me drool.  It would be like gaming nirvana.

I know the movie beat me, I could never actually sit through and watch it   saywhat
23  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Oculus Rift VR headset on: August 08, 2013, 07:24:32 PM
its actually not that huge of a jump, and with the consumer version not coming til next year ( holiday perhaps) Thats 18 months,a nd given that any decent gaming rig can already drive 1080 at 60fps , I dont think hardware is going to be that big of a deal.

If your machine now cant push low rez easily at 60fps, it must be a business machine, or some old old gaming rig, because to be honestly( edit- I see you say its a laptop..nuff said  crap video card/no horse power)), I have seen $1000 rigs run oculus just fine at 60fps.  $1000 buck rigs isnt that big a deal for cutting edge gaming tech, and what is 1000 bucks today is 600 bucks tomorrow.

As with any new leap in gaming, first year it will be the tech enthusiast that adopt it, the following years, the mass consumer come on board as they become familiar with the game changing tech. I think the oculus initially is going to be a big win for pc gaming, as pc desktop gaming along with the oculus is going to give gamers an incredible gaming experience they cant get anywhere else.

What is the hardware requirements for the headset? I hadn't any notion it would be hardware intensive so this is kinda a surprise. And are we talking CPU or GPU dependent?
I agree, considering the oculus hd set is not out even for developers, I would like to know what he is talking about.  As for the oculus currently out to developers the hardware recs are actually quite modest.
25  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Oculus Rift VR headset on: August 07, 2013, 03:36:56 PM

remember when failing at something use to have consequences?  In the corporate world it just doesnt seem to be the case above a certain level, but understanding this does go a long way in explaining why this world is as messed up as it is.
28  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / An Indies take on a Ghostbusters like game on: June 13, 2013, 11:53:36 PM
Was over on Kickstarter killing time and I found this lil possible gem of a game.

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1184280206/ghostcontrol-inc

I dont have anything to do with this game, (other than just KS backing it) but I just thought it has a very interesting take and approach to the ghostbusters genre.  No fancy graphics just a lot of good ideas.  Gameplay FTW..

So anyway I though maybe some of you guys may appreciate a heads up on this hidden title.

29  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Xbox One Discussion on: June 12, 2013, 04:58:13 PM
Thing is if MS retains say 75% of their userbase, 3 out of 4 users say, you know what I dont care, I want to pay more, be spied on, blah blah blah,  I know it seems a pretty high number, but even if they do retain 3 out of 4 users, that would STILL be an epic failure for them.  Microsoft actually is banking on trying to increase their user base by 50 to 100%, personally I see no way in hell this happens,  except one..... MS has only one shot to pull this out... subsides it with one or two internet providers.

MS has set the 500 price point establishing, this thing is expensive.  If they come out in september during their NFL media blitz and say, you know you can have the xbone for 99 bucks, just sign a 3 year bundle with comcast or who ever...  That is the only way I see them saving themselves.  But of course this would make sense, and nothing MS does seems to make sense anymore, so I put my money on epic failure of a console.  WiiU is at $350 and sales are AWFUL, how the hell is 500 even an option for the xbone?
