I'm hoping we'll see reviews today. I'm not as confident in this one because of the developer switch.
Have you tried the demo on Xbox live yet? I tried the GH3 demo, first GH game I've ever tried, and honestly I don't see the attraction. Basically it's the button pushing dance I hated in GTA San Andreas, but with rock tunes. I can't be the only one who thinks this... or am I? Seeing as though this is the first GH game you've ever tried and playing with the guitar controller is really the only way to play the game, I'd say yes.

4 games of Khet tonight, and I crave for more.. I am tempted to wake the neighbor for a game, lol.. Khet is now on my top list of best games, and I have a pretty big selection of Euro/German board/card games, so that says a lot.
You simply cannot go wrong with it, I would have trouble thinking anyone would dislike it.. ITS GOT LASERS MAN!1!!1

Personally, I'm trying to muster up some semblance of enthusiasm for buying a slightly upgraded Gamecube with a gimmicky remote. I'll give it a minimum 6-8 months before I even consider purchasing it. I always get a chuckle when Nintendo fans lord gameplay over graphics. It's almost like they keep apologizing for the system's shortcomings. You can have all the gameplay you want up on that high-horse, I'll take gameplay AND graphics.

What the hell happened to Ubisoft, seriously. For all of Ubisoft's trumpeting of the Wii, they've clearly done more harm to both the system's reputation and their own than any other publisher who has yet published a game on the system. You know you're doing something very, very wrong when EA's yearly ports to a system are widely praised and yours are shit all over on a constant basis.
Ubisoft, stop making crap please. Thanks.

So who's braving the infamous post-Thanksgiving pre-Christmas retail sales day known as Black Friday? If so, where?
Black Fridays used to be fun, but I guess I'm older now because I can't muster up the enthusiasm to go out at the break of dawn to fight raving lunatics. It's getting worse and worse every year now with people are actually camping outside and stores opening up at 12am on Friday. Sigh...

The Wii is a perfect opportunity for someone to do a remake of Jurassic Park: Trespasser! Boobies and crate stacking FTW! A Guitar Hero-esque game where you play air guitar with the wiimote and nunchuck! A Nintendogs remake where you use the wiimote to pet and walk your dog! What other games can you think of?

Maybe the Ebayers are proving one thing. Ken Kutaragi was right when he said "The PS3 will instill discipline in our children and adults alike. Everyone will know discipline."
He's not real, right? I mean, hes a creation by the idiotic PR suits at Sony that think they can garner favor with the public by presenting their president as the most out of touch, wierd, delusional, insane, possibly schizophrenic? I mean, someone tell me I'm right. Sadly, he is as real as you or I, but 10x more bats**t crazy.

Has anyone gleaned any info from stores as to when they expect to receive more supply?
I'm hoping this week, but I don't have definite info...it's just hope. I think some folks are missing the fact that there appear to have been WAY more Wiis shipped than PS3s. After all, how many stores did we hear about with 50+ PS3s? The fact that they are selling out should be celebrated as a successful launch with a lot of interest, not reviled because Nintendo didn't ship any units. We'll see what happens, but I truly believe that we're going to see good restocks, unlike with PS3, which could take months. Did Sony kill someone close to you or something? Why all the hate for the PS3? Months?? Try, this week. I think a PS3 ran his dog over.

Who needs ads? Sony is too busy basking in the glow of their own perceived awesomeness. What was it Kutaragi said? Oh yeah, this:
PS3 is “for consumers to think to themselves ‘I will work more hours to buy one’. We want people to feel that they want it, irrespective of anything else.”
Ken, you're a precious gem....

It's intriguing...while I know we should expect the numbers to fluctuate, if you go to Gamerankings right now, and look at the highest ranked games of all time with 15 or more reviews, Twilight Princess is sitting at #2, behind only (wait for it) Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time.
Not that I'm going to read too much into this...but isn't it pretty extraordinary for a launch title to get this kind of acclaim? Now, you could argue that this is more a GC title than a Wii title, and I won't argue with that. But even if you feel that way, doesn't it begin to make sense why they might have delayed the GC version in order to play up the sense that the Wii has what could turn out to be one of the most highly regarded games of all time available from launch?
It's a Zelda game. Reviewers are automatically going to give it a perfect score no matter what (even if they actually play it or not). Same for Mario games - instant perfection. It being a launch title makes it all the more awesome that a game with it's pedigree would lead the charge as a system-seller.

Decent review. I never expected this one to be halfway decent at the very least. I guess it's one of those "dang-all-the-other-good-games-are-sold-out-so-I-might-as-well-get-this-so-I-have-something-to-play-at-system-launch" titles.

Zelda notwithstanding, my interest in the wii was pretty low to begin with. The launch line for the wii (and PS3 as well) is just plain weak IMHO. I hope something halfway decent comes out soon.
The rest of the Wii lineup has been reviewed fairly well. Rayman, Call of Duty3, Trauma Center, Monkey Ball, Tony Hawk, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, Madden 07, are all respectable 80%-ish games. Up until Red Steel, the low scores were for Excite Truck and Wii Sports, which were 70%-ish. I'd say that's a strong, well rounded launch lineup. I guess I should clarify myself as I expected people would respond with 'look, there are X number of reviews out there with ratings of Y% and higher': launch lineup-wise there isn't anything that would make me drop everything I'm doing to hunt down a Wii. I know console wars aren't won at launch, but it still would've been nice to have some more titles that I would actually be interested in :slywink:

For what it's worth, I've trusted Gamespot reviews 9-times-out-of-10 . They've been pretty spot-on and on-par with how I would've reviewed any particular game. Unlike IGN which tends to overrate every single game they review, I actually like Gamespot's harsh and critical eye when it comes to reviews.
That being said, I think it's safe to say that by virtue of it's pedigree, it was pretty much a given that any Zelda game released would automatically receive glowing perfect-10 reviews. It's almost as if people are afraid of critically reviewing the game or automatically assume it's going to be awesome (after all, it's Nintendo's bread-n-butter franchise).

Is anyone really surprised? It looked pretty bad already from the E3 demos. I think all the hype was because of the ZOMG I get to swing the wiimote to control a katana awesome kthxbye! factor. Zelda notwithstanding, my interest in the wii was pretty low to begin with. The launch line for the wii (and PS3 as well) is just plain weak IMHO. I hope something halfway decent comes out soon. And I also seriously hope the following shot was from some earlier build or something cuz it looks like poo

Anyone pick this one up? I would normally relegate this to bargain bin status by virtue of the fact that it's a movie-based game, but some reviews of it look promising. From what I can tell, it's essentially a GTA/Saints Row open-ended type game where you roam Miami as our beloved Tony Montana with a huge chip on his shoulder (the game takes place after the events of the movie).
If anyone has any impressions, I'd love to hear them. If I don't pick this up, I still have to get my hands on Yakuza.

So I finally completed Okami. Took me roughly 36.5 hours and it was definitely a memorable experience. What was up with the final boss being a . After fighting I expected something bigger and nastier. The was pretty cool though. The story felt kind of disjointed at the end. It was like they were trying to piece together these different hodge podge elements into a cohesive story. For those who have completed the game: I think it's safe to say that this is the closest thing you're going to get to a Zelda-like experience on the PS2. You've got the novel visual styles and theme, quirky and eccentric NPCs, and a real sweeping epic sense of a larger-than-life adventure. The use of ancient Japanese mythology as a backdrop to the story is a new and welcome addition as well. This is one of those games where it just draws you into the world and the story and gets you to play that "one hour more" to see what happens next. I was worred that the Celestial Brush ability in the game would be a gimmicky contrivance, but it actually turns out to be really well implemented feature in the game not just in the aspects of boss-battles and puzzles, but in general exploration. There are also tons of little treasures and knick-knacks that you can collect and the mini-games are also interesting diversions from just running around doing sub-quests. The world is just really rich and inviting. Besides the similar cel-shaded visual style, playing the game just really brings back memories of playing Zelda: Wind Waker.

So I've fallen into the DSL hype. This won't be the first handheld I've ever owned and I'm intrigued by the "gadgetry" of the device, but none of it's games interest me whatsoever. It was the same way when the PSP came out (luckily I didn't get one). I guess I just want the device for the sake of having a new, shiny gadget to tinker with. <shrug>

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / PS3: We're Sony. You know you'll buy it anyway.
|
on: May 20, 2006, 04:43:47 PM

Anyone see this over on Shacknews.com? Not vouching for the credibility of the site or even if this report is true, but it's funny nonetheless: Sony's Reeves: People Will Buy PS3 Even Without GamesIt's a great day for hubris on the part of European console executives, I guess. Speaking to Computer and Video Games, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe CEO David Reeves had high expectations for PS3's launch despite any hitches it may potentially have. PS3 would sell millions even if it had no games, he claimed. "We have built up a certain brand equity over time since the launch of PlayStation in 1995 and PS2 in 2000 that the first five million are going to buy it, whatever it is, even [if] it didn't have games," said Reeves. Sony, you are seriously topping yourself time and time again with copious amounts of hilarity. Maybe it's just me, but blatant arrogance like that just rubs me the wrong way. Don't get wrong, I hope it does well, but between Kuratagi, Reeves, and any other two-bit executive wanting to make statements, it looks like Sony is trying to ice-skate uphill, and the hill just keeps getting higher and further away.

Nice job, Sony. Good luck trying to sell your precious PS3. I had high hopes, but they're seriously shooting themselves in the foot ... make that both feet. It's just amazing to me how rediculously expensive gaming has become.
I already balked at the $400 price tag for a 360 (which I bought anyway), but $500-$600 is just plain preposterous, no matter how you spin it.
