Haven't delved into the character creator and maybe it's just me, but doing the training session with randomly created male/female characters can net you some pretty gay looking players. Picture a big burly bare-chested guy in a floral shirt with a leather strap wrapping each leg and pirate hat or a white-haired older guy with glasses and some pretty badass-looking armor for his upper torso, but then with parachute pants. icon_surprised

So I just picked up my pre-order for the 360 Premium Edition (have no PS3, just a 360). Comes in a swanky metal tin, comic/art book, poster, t-shirt, and a mini sharpie I have no idea what for (to autograph my own t-shirt?).

Anyways, can't wait to get home to play. Hopefully Yoda is available from the start. Would be interesting to see the character builder too.

I did at first (with RedBull and Jolt and Bawls), then it subsided. It's still just glorified soda. My only caffeine fix these days is tea and the occasional diet soda every once in a while.

The env2 has a comically small screen and looks like a calculator. I looked at it when considering a phone and frankly would be too embarassed to bring it out in public. I myself have the Samsung Glyde which has a nice (but somewhat glitchy) touchscreen and slide-out full QWERTY. I wanted to wait for the new LG Dare, which should be out now, but my first 30 days were expiring and I needed to settle on a phone. The MotoRazr is nice and sleek and slim, what you'd expect from a standard razor.

So I finally got a chance to see it last night. It didn't quite strike me as well as the first one did. Heath's performance was of course nothing short of amazing. Bale's pursed-lip growling got kind of grating and irritating after a while and for all of Nolan's other superb filmmaking skills, he still can't shoot a fight scene worth a lick. His lisping cookie monster growl made closeup shots of Batman unintentional comedy.

All of the fight scenes pretty much comprised of quick half-second close-in upper-torso-framed cut shots of Batman punching someone. Yawn. Not asking for wire-fu here, just anything less boring when it comes to something that should be fast-paced and exciting. The movie felt really long to me too, in which I now agree about cramming the Dent story arc into the last section of the film. I can appreciate the storyline of

but it all just felt forced.

Was pretty cool to see so much of Chicago shot as well. I was watching from across the street when they were shooting the street scenes with Bruce's Lambo and even some night shots done in Lower Wacker Drive.

All in all, I would probably watch it again, if nothing else for Heath's final and enthralling depiction of Gotham's most cunning and diabolical super-villian. I thought it was a good movie, not the best ever made or a masterpiece of epic proportions everyone and their grandma claims it to be.

So I got back yesterday morning from my week-long trip to Maui for my buddy's sunset beach wedding. So much fun. We stayed at a the Maui Hills condo in South Kihei. Other highlights include:

- Chilling and creating our own Corona "beach sunset commercials" at various beaches we found.
- Reef scuba diving in Coral Gardens.
- The Road to Hana (brutal) followed by some kickass seafood right off the beach at Big Momma's Fishhouse.
- Old Lahaina Luau on our last night.

All in all, a much needed and very cool vacation. Sadly I didn't tan as much as I wanted and even more sad is that I couldn't pack one of those hula girls to take back with me. Some pics:

Hey shawties, it's ma burfday!

So I finally hit the big Dirty 30. Yep, 3 decades of carousing and galavanting with nothing to show for it. Supposedly the 30s are the best years of life, so they say. We'll have to see.

It feels weird though, like being in some limbo part of life where you neither have the impetuousness of youth nor the calculated and cautious experience of being older. Despite still being single and unmarried I guess I should be grateful that I still have a relatively well paying full time job, full head of hair and all my teeth.

Here's to hoping I don't screw anything up and to surviving to my 40s.

A sensible solution. If only it didn't come to that due to people being inconsiderate and just not using their common sense. Pretty soon you'll have management dictating all these rules to control this little thing and that little thing. People are so stupid sometimes. Like they say: "Common sense isn't so common.".

Anyone ever (or have had coworkers) bring in something to work for lunch that ended up stinking up the office? And worse yet it just didn't smell strange at all to the offender? Seriously, my cubicle air is precious, people. Please show a little consideration before you bring in that delicious dish your wife/girlfriend made that ends up smelling like a used diaper filled with Indian food.

Also, my office smells of popcorn. Everyday. People here love the microwave popcorn.

F the end boss fight.  a fight against an assassin in a burning building with a short time limit?  why the H not?  let's add the worst aspect of the game (drawn out boss fights) with one of humanities biggest gaming douche moves.  and then add a final insult with a checkpoint save right before where if you didn't rush through the first part, you get screwed in the second with no way to go back except restarting the level.

in two minutes, i was only able to hit the M-Fer enough to drop his health by a fifth, while i was left with a sliver.  and then the timer ran out and i died.

Spoiler for Hiden:
There's actually another less frustrating boss after that, but yeah I found that timed fight in the barn against the professor pretty stupid. The majority of the 3 or so minutes they give you on the timer I was just blocking attacks interjected by just enough button mashing to get adrenaline for takedowns. For one there shouldn't even be a timer, and if they insisted on using one the fight should've just continued outside where the professor ups the ante and pulls a knife on you or something.

It's about as close as you're gonna get to an Initial D-like experience in Grid, which is to say, pretty good. It even helps that there is a AE-86 in there  slywink

So I Gamefly'd this and beat it this past weekend. A mediocre actioner with good production values with extremely linear gameplay that's barely kept afloat by it's unique, yet somehow stilted, hand-to-hand fighting system.

The shooting/aiming system is just plain disappointing. Why accentuate Bourne's elite training and super skills as a spy and assassin only to have him shoot like a drunken girl scout? If they wanted to discourage so much shooting and steer you towards their hand-to-hand combat, this is a pretty poor way of doing it. And why is the one
Spoiler for Hiden:
flashback scene where Bourne plays sniper
a QTE (quick-time-event) instead of letting me actually shoot?

While the much vaunted fighting system is bolstered by features like takedowns, the ability to weaponize your environment, and the camera work that highlights the brutality and viciousness of Bourne's training, it's still seems very limited. Your set of attack options just isn't diverse enough and aside from the times when you've built up enough adrenaline to takedown 3 opponents in quick succession, all of your fights pretty much boil down to: hit hit hit, block block, use takedown, rinse-and-repeat. It's almost the equivalent of watching two rock'em sock'em robots pound each other until one of their heads pop off.

The one lone driving level is laughable. Perhaps they put it in just as filler to accompany the storyline. The driving is floaty, camera angle is bad, and you'll be smashing headlong into other cars at every turn. If they just showed a cinematic (or actual film clip) of Jason and Marie bounding around the city evading police, I probably would've been just as happy.

Definitely give this a rent. Fun for a few hours before moving on to better games. I really didn't have any desire to replay it after I was done. With one play-through you've pretty much seen it all.

Ok, I think I need some help and GameFAQs doesn't have any walk-throughs yet.

I'm on the 4th Raiders level (I think) called "Pursuing the Ark" and am at the point where I need to get the two motors to raise the gate (next to the little pond).  I've gotten the one motor from the tower with the pressure plate, and I can see the other one hung up by the set of 3 towers but I can't get to it.  I just can't swing off that second rope and get onto the third tower.  Am I missing something?  I tried it for a long time last night and finally had to give up and lose my progress.

Spoiler for Hiden:
This took me a few tries too, but I used Marion and just got lucky to get on that 3rd tower after a couple failed attempts.

Picked up my copy yesterday as I've been craving a new racer for the 360. I haven't started the career mode but just tried each of the quick-race "Race Day" events. I have to say I'm liking it a lot. No lock-ups or performance issues yet (fingers crossed).

I really like the variety of different race types you can participate in. I think it strikes a good blend of both arcadiness and "sim-ness" without delving too deeply into either. It's arcadey in the sense that there is only a limited selection (45) of cars to choose from and you can't tweak every infinite detail of your car based on telemetry reports but it's like a simulation in the aspects of realistic car damage and racing tactics.

The graphics are stunning. Love watching the replays and noticing all the small details of your car as it bounds around the track. The Flashback is a novel idea. Haven't used it too much but it's pretty cool to be able to rewind POP-style to re-do that nasty hairpin you totally blew. I'm also happy to report the AI not having super-cheap rubber band intelligence (which I really hate). They could've enhanced the arcadiness and easily made the other AI racers really cheap but I've seen the other racers use different drafting, passing and positioning tactics in races. It also never gets old to look in your rearview to see some AI racer mess up a turn and cause a big pileup behind you.

All in all, I'm really happy with it so far. Can't wait to race some of you who have the game as well. And for a guy who claims his nickname is "Drift King", I've been a doing a great job of drifting into nothing but walls and other cars  icon_lol

Seriously though, I'm kind of on-the-fence with this one. I tried to like the first one but I ragequit so many times that I just gave up at one point and never looked back. Either my gaming skills, my patience, or both have declined greatly in my older age.

From the reviews I've seen it looks to be pretty much more of the same, but bloodier and gorier.
710  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [Review] The Bourne Conspiracy on: June 04, 2008, 01:40:31 PM
Decent review. The demo truly was bad. The driving level was absolutely laughable and the "quick-event-pass-or-fail" button press sequences were an exercise in frustration. I don't mind timed gameplay sequences if they are done right, I just don't like being punished for not responding with nanosecond precision.

The is definitely a rental for me. If they would open up gameplay a bit more and not hold your hand all the way through it could've been so much more.

Maybe it's just me and I'm being old and uptight, but I find it incredibly annoying when you send out an email to a group of friends to get their feedback on something or to set up a meet and no one responds. Non-responses are assumed non-participatory. Seriously. Do I have to call each and every one of you up? Reply with something. Anything. Fuckers.

Maybe in my case it's justified seeing as how all my other friends are either already married (no kids) or soon-to-be married. Everyone but me has got something else goin on frown

Still doesn't make it less considerate though.

So people should be finished or close to completing this game by now. For those who've completed GTAIV who did you end up killing on the SP play-through and why? I posed this question in another forum just to see what choices people would make for whatever reasons they deemed it was necessary.

For me:
Spoiler for Hiden:
Dwayne - His morose and depressing ass was getting annoying, and besides he wanted to go anyway so I just put him out of his misery.

Spoiler for Hiden:
Francis - Annoying little two-faced weasel who had dirt on me, so he had to go. Besides I liked hanging out with his brothers.

Spoiler for Hiden:
Dmitri - Because the bastard had it coming and I didn't want Roman dead. I actually didn't mind at all that Kate died (if she put out once in a while maybe I'd feel a little sad).

People I chose not to kill:

Spoiler for Hiden:
That first dude Vlad wanted you to kill.

Spoiler for Hiden:
Darko - still conflicted on this one. Maybe I should've iced his ass and be done with it.

Spoiler for Hiden:
Dwayne's cheating girlfriend - trifling bitch was lucky I was on a "good day".

People I wish I could've killed:

Spoiler for Hiden:
Michelle / Karen - at least she gave it up, but I wish that backstabbing hoe was dead.

Spoiler for Hiden:
Manny - If Elizabeta didn't do the job I would've put him 6-feet under "the streets".

Spoiler for Hiden:
Florian / Bernie - Actually now that I think about it, I'd keep him around just to watch him run around the park. Comedy gold.

Anyone give this a try? The cinematic sequences and action shots where you're fighting hand-to-hand looked pretty slick, but the Shenmue-like quick action parts (where you have to hit a key for certain sections within a second or less) seems like an exercise in frustration. The one driving level they had was pretty laughable too. The driving physics are totally arcady and you're basically driving around in circles until certain "events" trigger.

Changing the number will just get you somebody else's douchebag friends.  Eventually they'll stop asking for Cory.  In the meantime have some fun with them.

You could just say that you are Cory and, if it's a guy, tell them that you want want their mom.  If it's a girl, tell her that you want to father their children.  That'll get them to stop calling quick

This I shall try. I've answered some calls as Cletus, Hank, and Jessica politely telling them they've reached a wrong number. Maybe I will have some fun with this until it all stops completely.

So I got a new cell phone number recently and the douchebag who previously owned this number apparently didn't tell his stupid friends about this and I get calls and a few texts from these retards, mostly on Friday and Saturday nights thankfully, asking if "Cory" wants to go out to hang-out and what-not. You would think that calling one person's number and getting the voicemail for a totally different person would be a pretty good indication something is up.

Retards. I've thought about answering and telling them poor Cory is dead or answering texts and telling people to meet me a some random place at some random time, but I don't even bother and just let them go straight to voicemail.
