Overall, this was definitely a better episode, with everyone trying to move their own stories forward, at least. Well, not Andrea, really. And the Gov started to, but then, like an inept supervillain, he walked out on his master plan before it was really underway. My guess is he didn't really know the true numbers or firepower inside the prison, so he just sends in zombie bus to thin the herd, then pops back in later to clean it out.

I was ecstatic when I found a new FFL who's 10 minutes away from me that setup shop a few months ago. His $25 transfers (as opposed to $50 or even $75 per transfer) just made it even sweeter. wonderpug - So there's a FFL license that allows for "historical" firearms as opposed to the standard type that deals with modern ones? The "Curio & Relic collector" can only dispense with muskets and mosins?

Good luck with that. I doubt that this thread can stay simply about guns and not about the moral and legal issues involved. Really not sure why you even put this in "Off Topic" instead of where it belongs and will likely end up, if it doesnt, as you say, get "nuked from orbit". Heck, even you couldnt resist discussing Illinois concealed carry laws, right before asking people to avoid the "moral, ethical, constitutional, political, whatever, etc. perspective of things" I guess it will make an interesting social experiment though. BTW Im not trying to bust your balls about this or anything, just pointing out the reality of this topic. You're right, maybe I should just delete this then.

I'm an elephant walking on eggshells on this topic, and I saw a thread back from 2009 I wasn't sure if I should just revive, but I'm curious about GT members here who are firearms owners. I live in Illinois, thankfully not in Cook County, and have purchased my first handguns recently. I've had my FOID card for a while but never really got around to picking anything up until the past 3-4 months. I can't say that I've grown up with firearms all my life since I was a kid and are comfortable around them, but I have quickly and deeply acquired a unquestionable reverence and respect for proper firearm safety, handling and care at all times. Illinois is the last holdout state in terms of allowing concealed carry. It'll be interesting, and frightening actually, to see how Illinois adjusts to the allowance of concealed carry (with caveats and certain restrictions, of course) come June/July of this year. With that said, I'd like some respectful discourse about what you all own, what you carry, how you carry, what you've tried/liked/didn't like, how and why you came to own your first firearms, what got you into shooting, etc. Anything you're comfortable sharing. I'd like to stress 3 points before this thread potentially derails into a trainwreck of massive fail and I give full support for the moderators to nuke this thread from orbit if it gets out of hand: - 1. debates about gun control
- 2. debates about gun control
- 3. see number 1, then number 2
I understand that it's completely unrealistic to expect that any talk of guns at all wouldn't at some point stray into the moral, ethical, constitutional, political, whatever, etc. perspective of things, but as a mature forum community (with the exception of CeeKay ) I'd like to think we could have intelligent and polite sharing of ideas, opinions, advice, etc.

I've been watching Todd and the Book of Pure Evil (halfway through the 2nd season) and I'm really enjoying it. Like some here, I was put off at first by what looked like your standard juvenile high school stoner vibe, but I'm glad I stuck with it. The later episodes are really funny. I like the interplay between's Todd's gang and of course there's Hannah . Granted there are still silly and juvenile/crass elements about it, but it's still pretty enjoyable for me. Sucks that there won't be a third season.

I'll pop in from time to time forum-side to join in discussions about a new (or specific) game or to visit particular threads in the Off-Topic forum, but I definitely visit less frequently than I did before. And I also ashamedly admit to being one of the "front page skippers". You guys undeniably put a lot of effort into it but aside from reading Ron's take on a game I'm interested in (as alerted by him from the forum side), I just don't find myself utilizing it much.

I liked the Christmas special. Jenna Louise Coleman is adorably hot and it'll be interesting to see how her character pans out and how they develop her, but the back-and-forth chemistry between the two seems to be there already. I liked the older Tardis interior a little better than the new modern looking one. It had a quirky charm with it's random steampunkish array of gears, levers and switches.

As a pure and simple reading device, the Paperwhite is a better reading experience with the e-ink screen. If you want to consume more media (music and movies) other than books from the Amazon ecosystem, then the Kindle Fire HD. If you want a small tablet with the full Android experience, the Nexus 7 can't be beat.

I agree. Once I had the most powerful silenced sniper rifle with the best scope along with the bow, stalking and taking outposts became hugely fun.
In the weapons vending machines though where did the "Signature" weapons category come from? I had a silenced and scoped pistol, a clapped-out SMG and an auto-shotty (I think) listed there. I don't remember how or where I got these. Random loot pickups? Doled out at story points?

Well, I finished the game this past weekend. Did all the outposts and radio towers, but not all the wanted and "path of the hunter" side missions. I largely skipped the side missions, racing and supply drop missions as well. All in all I really enjoyed the experience. I found the pacing of the story to be about right even though the narrative itself was a bit hollow and middling near the end. Exploring the island was actually kind of relaxing and a good break between story missions. I liked how they integrated the hunting and crafting activities into tangible gameplay benefits instead of being there for the sake of being there (I'm looking at you AC3). Curiously I didn't see a game clock in any of the menus but I approximate putting about 20 hours into the story. Didn't do any of the co-op or multi. The endings were somewhat disappointing, both in a good way and a bad way. Although one of the endings could have given the player more ...ahem... manual user control (perhaps utilizing up-down action on the left stick and finishing with the right trigger) .

I'm about halfway through the game now and just started knocking out the Path of the Hunter missions to try to max out my gear. I'm also going around the top half of the island taking over the outposts I missed. Still having a lot of fun with it.
Although, how the hell do you kill a tiger with normal arrows? In the PoTH mission for that I'm almost always cat food. Either I find the special one I need to kill and end up running for my life from it, or I sneak around and piss off a random non-target one that sends me running for my life.

Stake land is now available on instant Netflix. Was pleasantly suprised how good the movie is. It's like a twisted marriage between "The Road" and "Mad Max"....with Vampires.
Sister Kelly McGillis... Top Nun. Didn't recognize her at first. I saw Kelly McGillis in The Innkeepers. She has not aged well at all ...

Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: [movie] Superman: Man of Steel
|

well,we shouldn't be surprised Man of Steel will be in 3DIn the wake of "Titanic," it's virtually impossible for any blockbuster to put up record-breaking numbers without the help of an IMAX or 3D surcharge. (Thus, last spring's re-release of that film and next year's planned revivals of "Jurassic Park" and "Independence Day.") Christopher Nolan might have the kind of sway as a director to do without 3D conversion, but as a producer on "Man of Steel," that would appear to be less so.
The Playlist reports that WB is setting forth with post-production 3D conversion on the Zack Snyder film in preparation for its June 14th, 2013 release. One can imagine how tantalizing the prospect of Superman (Henry Cavill) flying over the audience must be -- select scenes in "Superman Returns" followed suit for its own IMAX release -- but then again, that same kind of talk preceded the release of 2011's "Green Lantern," and well...
The news comes on the heels of Guillermo del Toro reportedly agreeing to convert his "Pacific Rim" for 3D before next July's tentpole date, despite that film also having been shot in old-fashioned two dimensions. Again, the spectacle of giant robot suits doing battle with massive monsters is a tantalizing one, but remember when that stuff used to be nifty enough on its own? Good god, enough of this 3D nonsense.

Ooh, this could be pretty good now. Daryl is still my favorite character on the show, despite the repeated attempts they're making of a contrived romance with Carol. I hope there's a 2-player co-op with someone playing Merle.
