This one flew under my radar but I got a chance to play the demo the other night and it was actually pretty good. I liked the way they tell the story by having you play the missions as your character is recounting events to a captive audience. I'm probably going to get to go for the full version on XBLA. I heard the campaign is a decent length as well.

Anyone seen or heard of this one? It's basically the crazy arm physics of Jurassic Park Trespasser, only you're now a one-armed surgeon with it. You have mouse control of your arm and one keyboard key per finger. Surgery has never been this hilarious?

Part of me wants to think that Ken Levine nefariously plotted all of this from the very first game in an attempt to implant the strange, wonderful and quirky metaphysical weirdness of the Bioshock universe and fiction into our heads and mind f**k us all in our waking moments if nothing for his own personal amusement. Another part of me thinks people are just grasping at straws and trying desperately to find connections to everything else, no matter how tenuous they may or may not be, because our minds just need to make sense of things.

The reality that we're in now is obviously one of infinite parallel universes spawned from the decision in which Ken Levine chose the path of game designer. Constants and variables ... constants and variables ...

So I finally completed the game last night. I thought the ending was interesting and I liked the direction they took in explaining the events of the game. Major ending spoilers question follows:

Spoiler for Hiden:
Spoiler for Hiden:
I get the use of quantum mechanics/physics and the concept of parallel universes and alternate dimensions, but I'm still trying to figure out Lady Comstock's significance in the overall narrative. She isn't Elizabeth's/Anna's biological mother, just some lady that hooked up with Comstock version of Dewitt. Was her role just used to build up the legend and lore of Comstock and Columbia? They had you fighting her as a boss for pete's sake. At one point I thought they were going to go the direction of Elizabeth/Anna actually being Lady Comstock in a parallel world. I guess more than anything she was needed in order to quell people's suspicions of an old man who suddenly had a baby girl.

They should have let Andrea turn into a walker. Maybe then she'll still try to broker a peace between zombies and humans. We can rebuild civilization! Zombies and humans working, loving and living side by side!

btw, if you miss Emma Bell (Amy), her character on TNT's Dallas is gradually getting more to do. She's Bobby's second-wife's daughter, abducted as a child and raised by her then ex-some guy or other... (don't ask  )

I had to look up who Amy/Emma Bell was again. I don't even remember her. The first season of the show seemed like an eternity ago.

I don't get that either. Team Rick has been headshotting walkers left and right out to 100 yards without any problem. But how about a trying to hit (using fully automatic weapons no less) a tightly bunched group of attackers running away scared? They hit squat. What is this? An old A-Team episode? Unless they didn't want to kill any of them, just scare them off.

Spoiler for Hiden:
  • I thought it was funny how the Governor and his crew roll in heavy with their full frontal assault, but end up scattering like roaches after a couple flashbangs and smoke grenades. Rick and team should have setup more traps to take them out.
Spoiler for Hiden:
  • The look of horror, confusion and terror on the faces of Martinez and silent black guy after the Governor goes berserk. Would you still roll with someone like that? And where did the three go if not back to Woodbury? That must've been an awkward car ride.
Spoiler for Hiden:
  • Carl laying it out for Rick was a cool scene. He's become "little Shane".
Spoiler for Hiden:
  • Every time Andrea stopped trying to undo her bonds and keep the conversation going or just sat there and stared at Milton to check if he'd become a biter was precious seconds lost. I'm still more sad Merle is gone than her dying. I had enough of her stupidity for season 3. She'd had multiple opportunities to kill the Governor, but didn't. Like Dale, the person who tries to save everyone and make everything work, pays the ultimate price in the end.

So this is coming out today. I know expectations are super low. Hopefully it turns out to be halfway decent and not some generic zombie FPS with The Walking Dead name slapped on it.

They made it so painfully obvious that it was Milton to make you think "Wait, it couldn't be that simple." and you focus on someone else, then they mindf**k you again because it actually was Milton! Oh those clever lads....

Yep, another setup episode. It may be another 1-2 "setup" episodes before the war actually starts given Rick has 48 hours to think about the trade.

Spoiler for Hiden:
  • Rick finally meets the Governor and they both get ample screen time for posturing and trying to gauge each other.
  • This episode seemed to cement Michonne's place in the group either by Rick's realization that ultimately she's an asset to the group or his reluctance to give her up (although this is probably due more to his character's nature and his complete distrust of the Governor).
  • Nice to see Hershel out and about away from the prison for a change. Daryl comparing zombie killing techniques with the Governor's henchman was funny too.

Just completed this. What an excellent game. Really liked it from beginning to end. The weapons and combat were satisfying, the traversal and exploration was exciting and the story was pretty good too. I also liked the auto-cover mechanic and inventory upgrade systems. Could have done without the QTEs, but they were infrequent enough not to be annoying. Just a great thrill ride from start to finish. Highly recommended.

I agree with Bullwinkle about the logistics of building the actual moat. Not saying it's impossible, but that's a big risk, even if they planned on staying at the prison indefinitely. And it wouldn't matter how deep your moat was or what was filled in it. Depending on how long they planned to stay there, there would be enough zombies to to plug up the moat to the point that they can just walk over each other like it wasn't even there.

Good god. Other than Lori, I've never wanted a character on this show to die more right now than I want Andrea to be put out of her misery. She's completed her full transformation into female Dale. This whole angle they're playing about her being so conflicted about her friends at the prison and her place at Woodbury is getting pretty old. I am annoyed at seeing her in any scene. If the next episode doesn't end with an excruciating and ironic death for her, I'll be sad.

* Ruger SR9c 9mm - which I've recently sold

Something you didn't like about it?  It looks awesome on paper.

There wasn't anything specific I didn't like about it. It's a nice shooting, sleek & compact piece well suited for carrying. The trigger on it was pretty nice with a smooth take-up and crisp break. My only nitpicks about it where it's gratuitous loaded chamber indicator (you could see it from space) and it's magazine disconnect, but I can't argue against additional safety features. The manual frame mounted safety was also extra piece of mind for carrying (even though some people don't like it).

I sold it because I've just always wanted a Sig. For a "budget" polymer pistol the 2022 retains Sig's soft shooting characteristics and manners at beer money price point. Granted it's not a P226 or P229 (which I'll own someday) but it's still a nice piece. Not as easy to carry as the SR9c, granted, but manageable if you want to go that route. I'll probably regret selling later, hehe.

* Ruger SR9c 9mm - which I've recently sold
* Walther PPQ 40 S&W - thinking about selling (can't afford to support 4 calibers)

* Springfield Armory XDm 45acp 3.8 Compact Bitone w/ Pearce grip extension
* Sig SP2022 9mm

New Aimpoint PRO red dot sight is on the way for my recently acquired Sig M400 AR15 too. Will get a pic when that's in. Here it is the day I picked it up. I just threw on the vertical front grip. I was pretty lucky to get it for a reasonable price. It wasn't the lowest price you could pay for one, but I didn't get taken to the cleaners either. The prices some people are paying for ARs blows my mind.

37  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Werewolves - Two Feet or Four Feet? on: February 19, 2013, 05:03:50 PM
I actually liked the way the werewolves were shown in the Underworld movies. I'm more towards the 2-feet (with the rear dog legs) version as it embodies more of the "man as beast" imagery of folklore. We identify something that is bipedal like a human, but hairy and evil and menacing as a beast. As far as locomotion though, I want them to be on all fours for pouncing, bounding, leaping, etc.

So, I guess a little of both?
