Thank you for answering CeeKay. I'm just going to delete it through my add/remove program and see what happens. Thanks again..

I bought this from GameStop because I had it reserved for my pc. I didn't know it wouldn't be a physical copy, so, I had to use the Game Stop app to imput the code, then it took me to steam. Do I have to keep the game stop app to play the game, or is it now playable from steam without the app. I really don't want the Game Stop app on my computer. Any answers appreciated.

4  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: Norton virus? on: May 12, 2013, 07:50:40 PM
Thank you. I agree about Norton. Your suggestions will be passed along, wish she'd leave it here with me, but she uses it for work so can't. The virus disabled her usb drives, so that isn't an option, the others suggestions are viable, and I hope something works. I'll copy that link address into an email to her. I have a My Book backup drive here maybe she can use. She's hesitant to use my Sons desktop computer as it's his gaming computer ( he's AF and deployed right now), and she's afraid she'd transfer the virus/trojan to his computer. I sent her a link to Malwarebyte. I'd nuke it myself, but it's her work computer, and she has a lot of things on there she needs. I can burn an antivirus to a cdrom for her, or if she can, that's an option for her with the desktop. Any preferences on a good one? Thank you again, so much, for the answers and suggestions.

Oh, the name of the place I was talking about is HiJackThis, but it's been a long time since I had to use it.
5  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Norton virus? on: May 11, 2013, 07:02:21 PM
I know, Norton is bad, however, my Daughter-in-law was just here and said she'd had a virus called the Norton Virus for almost a year on her small, travel laptop. She called Norton, and they told her they could remove it for $90.00. That was outrageous to me, as she'd used their product since she's been using computers. The virus stops people from updating their virus definitions, stops them from logging onto the Norton site, stops them from uninstalling Norton, and disabled her USB ports so she can't use those for backing up her computer to uninstall her Operating System and install a new one. There was a place I was directed to a few years ago that you sent your dxdiag to and they helped find and remove a virus/trojan/rootkit from your computer, but I don't remember the name of it. Does anyone here have any advise on helping her get rid of this, or at least helping so she can uninstall Vista and  install Windows 7? She has tried everything, used other types of anti-virus removals and nothing works. If it helps, when she tries to remove it from her system itself, ( she knows the line to delete), her computer shuts down everytime. Any help would be really appreciated.

I feel I need to apologize for taking my bad mood out on the people here. I happened to be browsing GT when my husband brought a letter from our health insurance in for me to read, and I just got  rather shocked, and yes, angry, so I typed what I did when I usually just read and get on with things.

I've been around for a long time, both here and at OO. Don't post much anymore, but my opinion is as valid as any of yours. BTW, how many of you 'oh so fair minded people' bothered to watch any of the Benghazi hearings today? Or do you only watch the LSM and didn't even know about it. In case any of you forgot, 4 Americans died in that attack, and it was blamed on a stupid video no one had ever heard of. Now, I'm going to make my husband dinner, so just blast away as most of you usually do if someone doesn't fit your 'mold', or doesn't agree with your 'talking points'.

10  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Xbox Live may be hacked on: October 14, 2011, 07:46:19 PM
I don't know how it works either. I do know that when I saw the Madden and knew I'd never downloaded it, I went to my current/pending downloads, and it said Madden had been downloaded to a different xbox than mine. I don't know how someone did that, and I only have the one Xbox. Don't know what the 800 points were spent on, because in my xbox, Madden is a lot more than 800 points to buy, and nothing else shows up in the download. Thanks for the answers though. Looks like a lot of people have had this happen though.
11  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Xbox Live may be hacked on: October 13, 2011, 08:07:33 PM
I got onto my Xbox last night, it said there was an update, and I allowed the update, then when I needed to sign in after it updated itself, it said I'd need to recover my profile. I never had this happen before, so I turned on my computer, signed into Xbox Live site, and found out how to do that. Went back to the Xbox, recovered my profile, and found that someone had used over 800 of my points I had to buy Madden (12?) I think, or maybe it was just to use my account to play the demo. My downloads said I got the 'Clockwork Tattoo', which I can't even find and I never bought. How do they do this? I don't have a CC attatched to my account at all, I buy the cards when there is something I want, I was able to log into the Xbox Live site online with my computer right away, so my password wasn't changed, I'm something of a loner with the Xbox, have never played a co-op, multiplayer, or any other game of that type on the Xbox, single player only, so I just don't understand how someone could have gotten into my xbox. Does everyone sign in all the time when they get on, as I've always, (since the first xbox came out through now) let the machine remember my password and just log me in when I turn it on. I don't have Wi-Fi, I use a cord from my pc to my xbox when I want to use it, and I just can't think of a way they get into other peoples Xbox's. Do they do it online? My password was really long (the reason I let xbox log me in), but I changed it anyway, so how did they get into my account unless they did indeed guess my password. Am I supposed to log myself in just to be safe? Should I also change my gamertag and/or my email address? Any insight on this would be appreciated.

I just wanted to ask Reemul if the computer showed signs of dying before it finally did. I also have 2 hdds in a raid 0 set up, and mine has started freezing for anywhere from 1-15 min. I sometimes have to reboot to get it going again. It happens a couple of time a day. Just wondering if mine is going to die also. Maybe I should start backing up some data I'll want.

It was the worst year of my life, worrying about him every day, but I and his father were always so very proud of him, and all of you that served there. Bless all who serve and bring them home safe. He also had some amazing pictures, a lot are really beautiful, a lot are really scary. He's Air Force.

I'm like MonkeyFinger on the issue of strategy guides, I absolutely love them, not so much for spoilers as for reading material. I got the game here in MI yesterday, and got so involved in the story reading the guide I haven't even started the game. For a strategy guide, it's more like reading a novel. I'll start the game tonight.

I got the Leiliana bug, second playthrough. I don't think the 'letting her down easy' is an option for me as the only two dialogs I can have with her now are 'you need to leave' and 'nevermind, let's just go'. I gave up on it as I can't find another workaround and the patch didn't fix it.
18  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Domino's Pizza is good now on: January 08, 2010, 08:49:20 PM
Anyone tasted the 'new' version? Last time I tried Dominos (and only time), the box would have tasted better that the crust, at the time, I liked ground burger on my pizza, and the burger looked like rat/mouse turds, (and yes, I have seen them at a place I worked, and helped clean out as a consequence), the cheese was tasteless, and the sauce so abundant that was almost all you could taste, and ran down your hands as you were trying to eat. I'm probably in the minority, but I would prefer lite sauce as opposed to super abundant sauce. Bad experience. I saw the commercial and wondered 'what has changed,' and is it just all hype?
19  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Dragon Age is looking good! on: January 07, 2010, 08:57:11 PM
I've had that problem with Shale since I did the quest with my first character, and every other character I've made. This was, at the time, without any mods at all. The mods don't seem to make any difference with the Shale bug. Only way I can communicate is to have Shale in my party heading out. That's just the workaround I use, then switch out when needed at places I can.

Thank you for the replies. I had heard the IE7 was terrible, but haven't heard a lot about 8. When my Son and daughter-in-law are home, they always use IE, don't know why, guess they just prefer it. Some apps I need IE for, but I keep getting a message that says 'this site will soon no longer support IE6, please upgrade to 7 or 8'. So, IE8 I guess it'll be. Thanks again. icon_smile
22  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / IE8 on: December 04, 2009, 09:32:33 PM
I know, I should have switched a long time ago. I have firefox, but some apps require that I also have IE, and since I'm the type that if it works well for me, I don't change, so... icon_redface.., I've still got IE6 but a lot of places say they are phasing out IE6, and I need to upgrade. Is IE8 a hassle? Does it work well? Any comments would be appreciated.
23  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Dragon Age Game Issues Thread on: December 01, 2009, 08:12:07 PM
I just watched the youtube video for the Shale problem, and the newest post below the video was this fix:

Bowtar (4 days ago) Show Hide  0   Marked as spam Reply There is a fix for this bug using the developer console:
1. Make a shortcut to the "daorigins.exe" file on your desktop. (located in the Program Files/Dragon Age/bin_ship folder)
2. Add the line " -enabledeveloperconsole " to the end of the shortcut, without the quotes.
3. When in game hit ~ (you won't see the console but it's there).
4. Type in the following: runscript zz_shl_debug
5. Press enter
6. Click on Hire Shale
7. Exit
8. Save the game. You can now disable the console if you want.

I don't know if it really works or  not as I've not yet run into the problem, but I'm sure I probably will, sooner or later, if I use Shale a lot.

Heh, well, that sounds like it would work.  I guess there's no benefit to me to being logged on, so long as I can use my DLC.  Thanks, snolepoard, I'll give it a try.  Will it let you play with the DLC if you don't log in?  Or do you have to log in and then log out?

I've had no problems using my DLC. It's there, the rings work, the armor is there, and I just got high enough strength level to use it. Sorry it took so long to reply, family home over the weekend.

Edit to add: Sorry, I should have thought to say that I don't have the DLC of the quests and different areas that people can buy, so I don't know for sure if they'd work or not if the game isn't connected.
25  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Dragon Age Game Issues Thread on: November 11, 2009, 07:48:36 PM
Ike, I found that if I don't log on, and the logged in button says 'not logged in', that I don't get that message anymore. Since I already got my download content, I'm good with not bein logged in while playing if it means I don't get that message anymore.

I posted this in the Dragon Age game thread, but thought I'd try it here. I'm 'at the moment' playing the single player only. I got my DLC finally. Now, when I play, the message 'can't connect to Dragon Age server' keeps popping up repeatedly, every 3-4 minutes, and it's getting very irritating. I've tried all that I can think of, but nothing has worked. I really don't have any idea how to fix this. My internet connection is always on while I'm on my computer, but this has never happened before. Am I supposed to do something before starting the game? I tried signing in at the site itself, then starting the game, I looked to see anything that would sign me in before I play, but don't see anything. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Do you login from the main menu? Does it say 'logged in' in the lower left corner of the main menu?

Ale
I've never seen a login option from the main menu, it has always just said 'logged in' in the lower left corner of the main menu. Still haven't figured out why the 'unable to connect to dragon age server' is still popping up constantly. I got all my download content right away, so can't see what the problem may be. And yes, Ike V, it is irratating as shit.

Your Dog:
Spoiler for Hiden:
I'm not sure if I should put this in spoiler or not, but just in case, I did. You should start a try starting a conversation with your dog in every area, if you ask him to fetch, he'll bring you some odd items sometime, and sometimes useful items, if you pet him, he rolls around sometimes, like a normal dog would. Just thought I'd share the info.

I at first thought he was just...a powerful dog to help in your fights, but he has a few tricks I guess. I'm loving the game so far. Does anyone know if you can start a new game with another type of character, just to see the starting areas for different types, and still have your original game also, just two different saves?

I already have a gmail account which I'll use for the battle.net conversion of WoW as it isn't my primary email, but I have a question. Can I use my WoW password as my password to join Battlenet? Will that interfere in some way when I merge my Wow account with Battle.net as it's the same password I'll be using when I merge the account? I'm asking here because just reading the posts at WoW give me a headache. I know I should have merged when I installed WotLK, but I didn't, so now I know I'll probably have to wait awhile to be able to play again until I get a conformation from Battle.net, but I may as well do it now, I just have questions.

I hope this isn't confusing, let's just say my email...which will be my log-in at Battle.net and to play WoW now, is [email protected] and my password is somethingelse, and the somethingelse is the same as my password now to log into WoW. When I go to merge my WoW with Battle.net, and they ask for my login info for WoW, and I use the password 'somethingelse' will that interfere with my merging?  :~I just want it to be simple as possible I guess.
