I experienced a major glitch in the game too.  It might be due to running low on HD space.  I basically lost 5 hours of play and was forced to restart from the beginning.  I saw the "Loading 0.00%" message in the save screen but couldn't save because Save was disabled.  Luckily I didn't have any other issues after I deleted some old game data to make more space.

Does DLC scale or something?  I zoned into Tiny Tina's area and everything was exactly around my level (33).

I haven't turned on my console for while so I just noticed this, they are offering Live Gold for $1.  Does this mean I can subscribe and cancel, basically getting Fable 3 for a buck?  I already have Halo 3/AC2.

I can hold my own in Call of Duty even at level 1. But MP here gives significant advantages to higher levels because each of the perks can be upgraded (it's not just gun unlocks).  So no matter how much teamwork you are doing, it's an uphill battle against people who are higher level.  Matchmaking also seems to randomly assign teams so you get one team with 4 Level 10+ and the other team with highest level of 1.  The slaughter is hilarious, it's like playing a smurf match in a MOBA.
85  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PS3] The Last Of Us on: June 24, 2013, 11:51:27 PM
I gave up on MP.  The concept it good but balance is terrible and matchmaking doesn't work.  It's fun if you are higher level and can farm lowbies for xp/loot.

Spoiler for Hiden:
I thought either Joel or Ellie was going to die.  Thats' the vibe I was getting towards the end.  I was surprised it ended the way it did.  I would guess you don't go through all this to make a game and not have it be a franchise like Uncharted, but how can you make a sequel to this game?

I hope there is no sequel.  I think it would just lessen the meaning of the narrative that they were going for.  I really think this game could be a turning point for gaming where we start seeing powerful narrative that isn't just another holywood trope.  Naughty Dog kind of strayed from that path after Uncharted 1 but they are back and character development is even stronger than Nate/Elena in UC1.  The people involved with this game should be getting the equivalent of Oscars.

Here is a good discussion about the story:

There is no way they will release a version of the Xbone without Kinect.  Apart from the tech not being up to snuff, that was the biggest hurdle with the Kinect to begin with.  No one did anything with it because not everyone had it and it would limit sales of your game.  If it is standard on every console, it is freely available for everyone to implement (of course they still have to make it catch on - there's a lot of negativity due to the crappy first version).

Kinect is a key ingredient in MS's vision for the future of our living room(/home?).  It's going to be working its way into our laptops and tablets (maybe phones down the road).  They're not going to back off of it.  And making it an option kills it for this gen.

A price drop is possible, but it entirely depends on how much of a loss it would be and whether they can stand it (MS does have a little bit of money).  To take over your house, it may be worth it.

I think they may end up taking the hit.  Even a $50 price drop could be enough to sway people on the fence.

but glad to see it's competitive again.

Exactly this since gamer lose if Xbox One flops and Sony has no competition.

There is a still a lot of resistance to Kinect.  I think they would get even more support if they made it an option and offered a cheaper bundle.
91  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PS3] The Last Of Us on: June 19, 2013, 04:00:25 PM
I tried a game of multiplayer and strangely enough, I have no issues with the controls there.  It was actually quiet fun.  It's slower paced lethal combat sort of like hardcore mode in COD.  You still have very little ammo just like SP.  Everyone has the hear skill so if you are running around, you will be quickly located.  There are 4 classes: Assault, Sniper, Support and something else (Medic?).  Seemed like the Support class can build stuff but not sure how that works.  I will have to try it some more.

Now that the ending has sunk in, I think it's just about perfect.  Kudos to ND for not going for the Hollywood ending.

Spoiler for Hiden:
It's not a clean ending sure, but the theme throughout the game was about the relationship between father and child.  It wasn't about saving the world.  So while it is morally dubious and Joel has to lie to Ellie, I still think it's an appropriate ending.  Also I think it's a little silly to apply scientific logic in a game with fungus zombies.  I actually don't know why they went for zombie theme here, it was totally unnecessary.  Instead they could have done it in a totally realistic scenario.  i.e. a realistic virus wipes out most of humanity.

93  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PS3] The Last Of Us on: June 17, 2013, 05:24:20 PM
Some really cool stuff happened around the 70% mark some of which changes gameplay quiet a bit for a while at least.  My opinion on combat hasn't changed.  I'm just wanting more character interactions and more time exploring the atmospheric environments.  I've gotten quiet good at the combat encounters so luckily I can get them over with quickly without too many reloads.  Everyone was talking about Elizabeth when Infinite came out but I think the relationship between Ellie (similar name, another coincidence!) and Joel has so much more impact than Booker/Elizabeth.  Bioshock Infinite is my GOTY so far so that's saying a lot.  I think I should be nearing the end, might be able to finish it tonight.
94  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PS3] The Last Of Us on: June 15, 2013, 09:51:10 PM
I don't even like zombie themes and I'm enjoying this (I didn't even know there were zombies in the game before I started playing, media blackout).  Luckily the story isn't typical zombie movie, it's more like a Children of Men mixed with some Cormac McCarthy.

The coincidences with the interaction of the 2 main characters in this game and Bioshock Infinite is pretty funny.  I LOL'd the first time I heard "have some ammo" during a fight.  The voice acting is superb.  Gunplay and stealth elements is kind of sub par at best.  That part continues to be Naught Dog's weak link.  Hopefully they can take some lessons from games like Tomb Raider for the next Uncharted.

I'm about 6 hours in and it says 40% complete.

Now that Sony won the internet, I really hope they figure out how to quickly patch their system with the PS4.  I haven't touched my PS3 for about 2 weeks, wanted to get in a quick game of Tokyo Jungle last night, 30 minutes later (2 system patches, 1 game patch), I was finally able to play the game.  This happens all the time with the PS3 while the 360 is always super quick with patches (even after I cancelled Live subscription).

Scrolls is pretty fun but I was expecting something a bit more original from the famous Minecraft creator.

Funny rumors have said League of Legends is coming to consoles, but unless the game changes significantly, it's not going to happen. That game is too mouse driven and it's as twitchy as you can make an RTS-style controlled game.

I would like to see that.  Not a straight port as it would be pretty tough to do some things with a joystick but perhaps a sequel where champions are designed around joystick controls.  It wouldn't be a first, there is that Lord of the Rings MOBA already on consoles.  How are the controls in that one?

I just did the lair defend mission.  It was really easy, I barely needed the traps.  Ray of Destruction is so OP in those narrow lanes smile  I also have the rage skill that increases damage for the first 3 seconds.  The whole column of monsters die in less than 3 seconds.

I'm basically cycling between Ray for single target or lined up mobs and the Fireball skill (with rage to increase radius) when they are more spread out.  I use Time Stop/Heal as my defensive tricks.

I was with you until you said you want to spawn camp for 2 weeks like it's 1999.

I'm annoyed with some of the F2P stuff.  Like Marvel Alliance gives you a permanent +5% magic drop rate if you pay $200.  That kind of gameplay changing thing is BS.  Flaming horse I don't give a crap about because even if they made it hard to get, I would never get it.  10 years ago, I could camp the plane of gods in EQ1 playing 48hrs non-stop to get that uber drop.  I was still in school back then.

And what skill is involved in acquiring these items? it's inevitably just a grind in every subscription based MMO.

As a Elder Scrolls fan and a MMO addict, I think I'm obliged to try this.  Also I loved RvR in DAOC.  Although I haven't really been following the development of this, I'm still wary.  It will be a surprise hit for me if it turns out to be actually good.

Ever since EQ1 I've been wanting a good first person implementation in a MMO.

Weird, I put every point and perk in making Katarina tanky but she still seems almost as squishy as me (glass cannon build for myself with almost all points in willpower).  In fact I have better survivability than Katarina since I can use defensive tricks.  Maybe I need to get a good set of elemental resistance gear for her.

I think the Veteran Hunter perk makes it easier to wield items that are a higher level than your character. I don't really see how 1 level higher items is all that cool though.  icon_smile

Except this Perk also has +3 Ability and +2 Skill.  Why would you take "Teacher" (+3 Skill) when you get so much more with this?  Which is what made me wonder if the item level thing was a negative perk to balance it.
107  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PC] The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing on: May 28, 2013, 03:47:15 PM
Well this turned out to be a surprisingly fun game.  I'm doing pretty well with my mage build.  But they really needed a better tutorial and the controls are a bit lacking.  Mapping to function doesn't seem to be documented anywhere and it is pretty much a requirement if you are going to use more than one power.  I guess they assumed everyone remembers Diablo 1 controls.  I guess I will look into moving them to number keys.  You really don't need to press 1,2,3 when you have already setup combos.

I'm a bit confused with the Veteran Hunter (?) perk.  Does anyone know if it makes items harder to use or easier?  There was a warning when I tried to train it so I assume it makes same level items unusable?

I never owned one, but heard the playstation and ps2 were good consoles.  I loved the Ps3.

I am ordering as soon as pre orders are available.  I am confident Sony will deliver an excellent console.  I also like Sony peripherals.

I owned a playstation and ps2 and they were great consoles.  I was really pissed with the ps3.

Sony promised so much before the release and when it came out, it was mediocre to crappy at best.  Eventually when developers figured out the stupid hardware, they were able to make games that were at the same level of the 360, it took a long time.  That is a far cry from what appeared to be a system that was supposed to blow away the 360.  All the power of cool cell processor tech they were hyping turned out to be Sony BS.  There were so many other blunders along the way like the Home, security issues, Move etc.

I have very little confidence in Sony because their upper management seem to be clueless.  Has there been a lot of changes in leadership that lead people to believe that they may get back on track with the PS4?

109  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Xbox One Discussion on: May 23, 2013, 08:45:11 PM
What's the big deal with indie games?  Pretty much any indie game worth playing is also out on PC.  Don't most people here play PC games?

The only advantage I can think of for the PS4 is that it's Japanese and it might get some exclusive JRPGs that I must have (Persona 5?)  But then again, we don't know yet.  One of the best JRPGs recently was a fucking Wii exclusive.

Just watched some kinect videos, I'm going to give a slight edge to XB1 even though I'll be buying a PS4 as well.  It's amazing how lag free it appears and it's tracking accurately without requiring a large space.  I'm hoping developers embrace it.  This should be able to do everything Track-IR can do and a lot more.

$200 Founders pack - Permanent Item Find Boost   5%

This doesn't seem right to me.  That is basically a major gameplay change.  I suppose you could buy consumables to do the same if you don't pay $200 but that's not the same thing and I'm guessing Founders could as well and get even higher magic find.  Imagine if Blizzard did this with Diablo 3.

Even if "Recommended" worked, I'd ignore it since it has no idea what build I'm going for.  For example, I'd use an item with overall lower stats if it had a higher single stat that I'm speccing for.

I played Tilt's mission last night.  No complaints, it was pretty well done.  Only problem I had was the outdoor area seemed laggy for some reason.  Not sure if this is due to server load.  Unfortunately all the text was putting me to sleep, I shouldn't have started it at 1 AM when the queues finally let me in.  I knew going in that it was text heavy but I wanted the foundry bonus and the quest length said 20 mins although I think it took me longer than that.

Has anyone heard about future class additions? Five seem a bit shallow for a MMO. Or are the D&D 4e rules prohibitive in that area?

They will be adding more over time.  Warlock is almost ready but they didn't want to rush it in for launch.  Archer is next.  A class in Neverwinter is not equivalent to a class in D&D 4e.  A class in Neverwinter is a combination of class and package in 4e so that means there would potentially be more classes possible in Neverwinter.
