Does the patch affect the Vanilla version or is this for Gods expansion only?

I will probably start yet another game of Fallen Enchantress.  I've started and stopped about 4 or 5 games so far mostly because I screwed up badly and I'm still learning the system.  Also the beginning exploration phase is really fun which makes me want to start a new game.

I need to finish off Borderlands 2.  It's gotten to the point where I'm burnt out on side quests (I've pretty much done every one up to the last part of the game) so I need to stop focusing on that and finish the story.

I've barely scratched Dishonored so I also want to get to this game.

And of course I'll be playing LOL as usual.

I've only played the Ass Creek series on 360, how does it usually compare on the PC?  Significantly better graphics or load times?  Typical consolitis issues?
85  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Good Tactical TBS Games? on: October 26, 2012, 02:50:10 PM
I just loaded up Gladius on my PS3.  I haven't played it since it came out so I've pretty much forgotten everything.  Normally I'm not big into nostalgic/retro gaming (I'm a bit of a graphics whore and most old-school UI pisses me off) but this game seems to hold up really well.  Graphics look relatively clean.  I realized that I never did the campaign for the male dude so I started that one (it says hard difficulty though).  So the story appears to be completely new, something I've never seen before because I played the Barbarian chick on my PS2.
86  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Good Tactical TBS Games? on: October 22, 2012, 03:29:22 PM
Not sure how well it holds up but Silent Storm is probably the closest thing to X-Com squad based combat.  I also liked Fallout Tactics.

I don't know of anything recent but you might enjoy SRPGs (Tactics Ogre, Disgaea, Final Fantasy Tactics, Gladius).  Many choices on PSP/PSV/other handhelds.

I wonder how GW2 is going to sustain a playerbase though.  Not everyone is into playing alts.  I guess through expansions like GW1 did.  I think right now there are a lot of people with 100% world map completion and it's been what, just a month?  I've been less interested in playing since I hit 80 but that also has to do with other great games that came out recently.

it's relax enough w/o a sub that it's very easy to justify not having to play(though i've easily put in 500 hours into the game). been playing borderlands the last few nights. just do the daily chill a bit. of course now that we have a wvw match worth playing, i'll be doing that more. wvw is great fun, but i guess it depends on your server too. quite a few people from my guild play so it's easy to get at least a 5 man to roam with and even solo you can do it a lot.

but i can see how people looking for raid style end game will get bored.

I don't need raid content (last time I did that was in EQ1), I just need fresh content or character development besides aesthetic improvements only.  It took a month to go through most of the content in GW2.  Compare that to other MMOs, it would take a lot longer before you've seen all the sights mostly because you level up a lot slower.  I played LOTRO longer than a month and I haven't even got to Moria and now there is Rohan.  I played EQ2 over 6 months and there was still lots of new areas to discover and new ways to improve my character.  Some people are going to be happy grinding dungeons over and over for legendary weapons but that doesn't work for me.  I suppose you can grind in WvW instead and with a good group that can be fun but I am starting to see too much repetition in WvW.  I was a huge GW1 PvP fan but the GW2 PvP modes are just not doing it for me for some reason.  I suppose it's mostly due to the huge imbalance and certain classes are just too powerful while other classes are not worth playing.  I don't even know how they will fix it, no other class can counter a mesmers illusions so how do you balance a mesmer without fundamentally breaking the class?

It's funny, I was so excited to hear about all the ways GW2 is bucking the conventions and in theory I like all the ideas but it seems in practice, maybe there is a place for some of the "old school" MMO mechanics.  I guess we will eventually find out if these new ideas hold up long term.  Well at least I got my money worth getting one character to 80 and another one to 40.  Whether I will stick with it long term though, I'm not sure yet.

P.S. Even though I'm mostly complaining here, I would still recommend GW2 to anyone, it was a pretty great ride and you will get your moneys worth.

I use every gun equally with my Gunzerker.  I usually start with sniper rifle until a bunch spawn then I get closer with other weapons.  I'm speccd halfway in the first and third (tanky) trees.

In all my long years of gaming, I hit a major milestone tonight.  I finally took a MMO character to max level.

I find it ironic that you hit max level in a game where max level doesn't mean that much. In other MMOs all the content is crammed into the end game while GW2 basically has no end game other than making your character look prettier.

Hmm I like to play most games on Normal (assuming this is what the developers balanced the game for) first but I don't like that the AI is shackled.  Not sure now where to start, Classic could be painful.

That wasn't scary at all!  I think X-Com can be a very suspenseful and scary game but that video doesn't do it justice.  That's fine, I'm not the target demographic they are going for with it.

I'm playing with controller unless they improve the mouse interface from the demo.  Even the lead designer admits in a podcast I was just listening to that they try to keep  the UI consistent between controller/mouse.  Obviously that is going to lead to an inefficient PC UI.

If I play Torchlight 2, will Torchlight 1 become unplayable do to improved interface, etc?

I don't think the interface is the big difference.  I was familiar with TL2 controls right away because it's so similar to TL1.  The big change is the map/environment.  I got bored of TL1 because it just had one underground map that you kept going down.  Also I made the mistake of starting on Normal mode which provides no challenge at all.

So with TL2, I started with the berserker and didn't like her skill tree/animations too much so I switched to engineer.  Really fun class so far and looks like there are lots of ways to build her.  I haven't tried the other 2 classes yet.

Project Eternity

Quote
This afternoon, Obsidian is launching a Kickstarter for what they're calling Project: Eternity. It's an original fantasy role-playing game created by many of the company's top minds: Chris Avellone, creator of Planescape: Torment; Tim Cain, one of the brains behind the original Fallout; Josh Sawyer, a lead designer on Icewind Dale; and a number of other programmers, artists, and designers who have worked on all of those games.

I took the liberty of bolding all the parts that make my body ready for this game. biggrin So glad it's not WoT.

I would love something like this but it's easy for anyone to make a claim like this.  Can they deliver though?
111  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Guild Wars 2 on: September 14, 2012, 09:17:52 PM
Elementalist have really cool stuff too.

Fire: launches magma bubbles, boils the water
Air: electric fields to stun, bubble that traps and floats target upwards, bubble that teleports you to location
Water: frozen wall to block enemies, healing wave to heal teammates (makes you charge forward)
Earth: ties an anchor to target and makes him sink down

An ultimate which I'm not sure how to unlock in PvE but I have used in sPvP: whirpool.  It's like the underwater version of the tornado.
112  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Guild Wars 2 on: September 14, 2012, 05:30:30 PM
While EQ1 underwater was awkward (actually on land controls were awkward too), I think it added a great sense of immersion.  When I was taking the boat from Butcherblock to Freeport, I knew there was a vast ocean below me and not just a 2D surface.  Discovering some of the underwater secret access routes was fun.  There was a  sense of urgency when your underwater breath spell was about to run out that I enjoyed.

I think having 2D water makes the world seem less believable.  That is probably one of the reason why GW2 devs chose to include it.  I'm sure the underwater content can use a little tweaking but so can a lot of the land areas (level 75-80 zones for example, I can't walk an inch without running into several aggro).

I actually like the underwater areas a lot, as does my gf. Lovely places and the mobs arent that hard

Ditto, I enjoy it too.  I really liked my personal story mission at around level 70 which was completely underwater.  I also love seeing some of the unique animals down there.

I don't have any issues with the controls.  Remember you can dodge underwater too.  I wonder if a lot of people have trouble with underwater combat because underwater gear is the last thing on their list to upgrade.

Mike Ferguson on WvW queues:

Quote
Hey everyone, sorry to not post about this sooner, the last few days have been a little hectic and I wanted to verify a couple things first about the issues we’ve been seeing with the queues before posting anything.
As many of you know, it is possible for someone to queue up for a map after you and get in first. We’re trying to get that fixed as soon as possible but unfortunately we still need a bit more time to solve the problem. We will definitely keep you updated when there is any news on our progress. I have been checking the queue sizes and wait times for each matchup, and there are a couple interesting things I’ve observed so far that may help reduce queue times for some of you.
Worlds at the top of the rankings can have queues that reach multiple hours (particularly for the Eternal Battlegrounds map), but most of the worlds in the bottom half of the ranking quite frequently have open spots in at least a few maps, and the lower ranked the server is, the more likely it is that there are spots available. I’ll be posting the up to date world rankings shortly.
When there are queues for every map, the wait time for borderland maps tends to be shorter. Enemy team borderlands tend to have the smallest queues for just about every team so you may want to try entering those maps first before attempting to queue for the Eternal Battlegrounds. If you are just entering the queue for the battlegrounds and not checking the borderlands maps first to see if they have space open, you could be missing out on playing in the Borderlands while you wait for a spot to open up for you in the Battlegrounds. That being said, while we still have worlds that consistently have open spots for more players, it would be fantastic if some players out there could help us spread the WvW population out a bit so we don’t have a few heavily stacked populations facing large queues on some worlds while many other worlds still have room to support people. While I know this isn’t what most of you wanted to hear, I also want all of you to know that we are still investigating numerous other options we can take to help resolve some of these ongoing queue issues and we’ve been discussing them internally every day to see what would provide everyone with the best long term solution, but we wont have anything ready on that front for quite a while. Ideally, we would see some people move from worlds with extreme queue times to worlds that need additional people and start building up active wvw communities there as well. Having more worlds with heavily active populations in WvW will be a very good thing for the long term health of the game, and spreading out the population will help reduce the queue times on the worlds with the longest queues. While queues do indeed suck, the fact that they are this bad is because so many of you are trying to play and that is actually one of the best possible problems we can have at this point. It may sound silly, but it means that there are quite a few of you out there are enjoying the game and we’re thrilled that so many of you are out there trying to fight for your world. We will do our best to make sure you can.
Finally, I would like to ask everyone to post any additional queue comments to this thread only from now on and refrain from creating additional threads about it.
Thank you all for your understanding and patience.

Btw, I agree that the personal stories quest need to adjusted.  I'm thinking that Anet assumed most people would be grouping or playing a tank class, some of those mobs hit entirely too hard
It's odd how difficult the story missions can be.  I've died more in those missions than anywhere else.  Some of them are just wonky hard, with what seems like a buggy amount of spawned enemies.

I had some issues with the story missions until I figured that I can't go toe to toe with multiple tough mobs. I was able to kite them from ranged and abuse terrain to get through it (guess my old Hunter skills came in useful). Felt like I was cheesing the fight, but I didn't care too much. This is at 30-40. Not sure how it is at higher levels.

It all depends how lucky you are and somewhat on the class.  I solod every personal story mission up to 77 so far but last night I was helping out someone at level 50 who is playing the same class but different race/story line.  His mission was much harder than anything I had faced.
116  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Guild Wars 2 on: September 13, 2012, 03:51:56 PM
40 mins on a boss fight at level 75 last night.  I only died twice but it took that long because the boss fight was clearly designed for duo and a less squishy class.  I basically had to stop an infinite number of healers coming in to heal the boss while still doing damage to a boss that can one shot me if I'm not careful.  Conceptually a neat fight but not balanced for solo or my class.  Oh yeah the 4 NPCs that were supposed to help me were dead the whole time, literally died 5 seconds after the fight started.

I read the OO posts and saw your reply about blue borderlands (which I couldn't find when I went to the WvW window...although now it seems I should have been looking for Anvil Rock), but saw nothing about the QT3 server...at least no mention of it after your announcement of the event happening at 8pm eastern.

I didn't check here, though.  It's an OO guild so I assumed all the info would be there as well.

It's no biggie though.   I still had fun, like I said.

Yeah I think there was some confusion.  The Wanderers guild and OO guild are separate guilds but there are some people who are in both.  Depending on which one you are representing, you might miss out on guild chat.  For example, everyone in Wanderers guild chat was aware of the event because it was being talked about a lot there.  Raidcall channels were mentioned in chat, I'm not sure if it was posted on the forums.

At least now that we've sort of figured out channels of communication, I can post RaidCall info ahead of time on OO for our next event (every Tuesday).

I guess no one on OO read my posts or triggercuts.  We had a huge turnout (40+) and all of us were on QT3 raidcall server.   We broke down a wall and took a major keep, it was a lot of fun.  I even commented last night why there's so many Wanderers and QT3 but I don't see any OO.
