I barely played the last one which is weird considering I played the heck out of all the ones before it.  I'm not sure if I just got tired of same old gameplay.  Hopefully this one will be fresh.

I bet Rittch would like to lay a plot in CeeKay's Creek if you know what I mean.  ninja

Not going into why the PS3 was so bad at launch and maybe 3-4 years after launch in this thread.  It's been discussed to death.

Back to Xbox One, so with regards to peripherals I don't see much info out there.  What's the deal with steering wheels?  I have been going under the assumption that 360 wheels won't work but can anyone confirm?

Except that it's unrefutable fact that PS3 was a piece of shit at launch.

Is it? This must be the first time I've ever heard anyone say that. The PS3 was a quality console that was held back by the stupid arrogance of Sony, the horribly documented developer tools, and its late launch. Nobody says that the PS3 itself was bad.

You say it's unrefutable fact that the PS3 was a POS at launch. By definition, that means you must have proof that makes your point of view impossible to refute. Please share it.

Yeah PS3 as a whole was a piece of shit.  You yourself posted the proof of it above.  You said it was held back.  So as a console system, if it's held back then it is shit at launch.  I don't want to start the whole debate vs Sony fanboys again about all the other problems with the PS3 at launch so I will stop here.

Except that it's unrefutable fact that PS3 was a piece of shit at launch.  Xbox One is not even out yet so you can make no such claims and everything is just speculation.

I'm thinking that with lowered expectations, XB1 actually has a decent chance to surprise everyone.

I actually bought into the hype that the PS3 was something amazing and got burned for it.  So now the PS4 is supposed to be something amazing but this time I will not be getting on the hype wagon for Sony.  I am nervously hoping that they can deliver.

I just got this mail today:

We’ve granted your EverQuest II account 15 days of FREE Gold Membership. You get one fully equipped Level 85 Heroic Character, 280 AAs, a flying mount, weapons, potions - ready to play immediately!

This is tempting.  I have only played up to about level 45.  Might be interesting to check out end game content.  But am I going to be mocked for being a level 85 noob?

I'm honestly not sure what I'm going to get for the PS4 when it comes out other than the obvious free PS+ games.  Killzone is the most likely, but I don't play many first person shooters on console and I haven't played any previous Killzone games, so that lowers my interest quite a bit.

You didn't miss much.  The previous Killzone games are bland to average.  This game was supposed to be the answer to the huge Xbox hits like Halo and Gears but it's just too formulaic and I doubt the new one will be much different.  The multiplayer seems better though if you are into that.
13  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [XB1]Forza 5 on: September 25, 2013, 09:29:18 PM
I'd be perfectly happy if they added nothing new, or even cut a few features if it could have cutting-edge next-gen graphics.  Not just for the cars and tracks but weather effects as well.  But this being a launch title, I guess that is an unrealistic expectation.

Ass Creed 4
FIFA 14

I'll get Watchdogs and BF4 on PC.

Only now looking at launch titles.  As far as a exclusives go, Forza is a must buy.  The PS4 exclusives will have to prove their worth (e.g. Driveclub, their previous games weren't all that great).

Is it just me or are the controls shit compared to games like Saint's Row 4?  Both driving and shooting in SR4 is a breeze with a controller.  It feels really weird in this game though.  I'm actually not sure if it's my controller since my original PS3 controller died and I just bought a knockoff (trying to avoid spending too much money on current-gen stuff with PS4/XB1 just around the corner).
19  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Warhammer Online shutting down on: September 19, 2013, 05:43:46 PM
The Scenarios were really fun.  I think WAR started that trend.  Everyone was adding/including Scenarios/Battlegrounds in their MMO since WAR came out.  It was nice that within minutes of rolling a new character, I could be levelling up doing scenarios instead of boring PvE.  I guess they realized how much fun SCs were that they even made a spin-off game (which unfortunately was pretty bad).

If you're just running from quest marker to quest marker and skipping right through the text, then yes, it probably all feels very stale.

Yeah this is what I'm doing.  I tried reading the text but it is so poorly written most of the time.  Also I'm guessing there is a problem in translation,  the over use of condescending terms like "wench".  I wouldn't give it a second though if I saw that in a game like Age of Conan but this is a cute and cuddly world that seems to be designed for kids.  Dialog in single player FF games might not be like Planescape Torment, but I don't recall it being this silly either particularly if you look at some of the newer stuff like FF12.

while i respect that decision Razzles,it really does get going when you start getting higher levels, especially with exploration

How long does it take to get to the good stuff?  I'm trying to give it a chance but still not feeling it.  It's a little better with my latest start in Limsa Lominsa but I just don't feel the new MMO addiction that I have felt in almost every single major MMO I have played.  Even MMOs I came to dislike (e.g. WoW which I played to level 40 before quitting), I still enjoyed the honeymoon period of discovering new things.

People keep saying there are so many things to do but it all boils down to kill X mobs whether it is a Fate or a Leve Quest or whatever.  Trash quests are not worth reading, they just involve more killing X mobs or click on the shiny things on the ground X times.  Other MMOs tend to disguise those tasks a little better but not in FF.  When I did a PQ in GW2 or WAR, there was at least some context.  Here the Fates (PQs) are just killing 30 mobs until boss mobs spawn (not sure if higher level Fates are different).

My theory is that I'm not "getting it" because I didn't play FF11.  Is anyone enjoying this who never played FF11?  It's one of those rare titles that I missed because I was on vacation at the time it came out and by the time I was back the hype had died down quickly.

I don't think I've ever seen a MMO get this much attention so early on. And all this despite the horrible launch its had. There is not even an ETA on when digital downloads will begin again.
Obviously no one involved with the producing of this game, dared dream of a response like this.

Are they limiting copied to create hype?  I don't have sales figures but based on just general interest on gaming forums, there is very little buzz about this compared to other major launches.  Even just from my guild, there are 3 people playing this when normally there would be a lot more (most of us are mmo whores who play just about anything).  It seems like a niche title so I can't really explain why it's sold out everywhere.

I must be in the minority then.  I thought the Move was terrible (I did try it) but then I really don't like Wii interface either.  I don't want a higher fidelity Wiimote as a gaming peripheral.  It wouldn't change my mind if it got a ton of great games to support it.  Kinect like devices is the future imo so it seemed odd to me that Sony took a step backwards in the motion tracking department.

As mentioned, Sony has been working on this technology for far longer than the Oculus Rift people. It's reasonable to assume that Sony's goggles will be more technically advanced than the Oculus Rift, though the price is impossible to predict right now.

I know that Sony in the past have released a lot of crappy peripherals (e.g. Move) trying to play catchup.  I think it's a pretty bold statement to say whatever they come out with (if anything since this is just a rumour), it will be better than OR but I guess we will have to wait and see.

If this is true and Microsoft doesn't follow up with something like this of its own, the Xbox One won't stand a chance with gamers. People have been saying that the Oculus Rift is the real next generation of gaming. Well, it appears Sony has been thinking in the same lines.

Or it could be the next Virtual Boy like device and Microsoft will be laughing their ass off as they watch it fail.  We will have to wait and see but do you really think Sony has been working on something as good or better than Oculus Rift for the past few years and they have just been able to keep it a secret?

I think the best move right now is probably to wait for OR to come out and see how it does and then integrate it into your system if it's a huge hit.

I've only reached Level 16, but it's readily apparent to me that this is a game that is probably more fun for higher level characters than it is for low level characters. Compared to a lot of other MMOs in which I didn't mind rolling alts, this one is a slog early on. I do find myself enjoying the game and the world more and more the farther I am away from the major cities.

Only problem with that is they want you to go back to lowbie content over and over.  Unless you are pretty happy gimping yourself to play one class only, I think you are forced to go back to get all those cross-class skills and the special jobs.

Well unless you are a hardcore completionist all you really need is two classes and your main job. Theoretically you can do your second class low level in another starting area which means you don't necessarily need to repeat any low level content.  Not to mention you can do levequsts or hunting log or whatever as well.  My first class it seemed to take quite a long time just getting to 10 but the second class I did 1-12 in a few hours - of course I did have the special Mog cap though.  Also I had done some of the stuff on another server so I kind of knew where to go. But really the hunting log is a huge help.

What you are talking about is jobs.  From what I've read, jobs are for group play and not really meant for solo.  I don't think it's too big a deal to level up 2 classes to unlock a job.

However, by level 50 you can slot 10 cross class skills in a regular class (not job).  I could easily see it becoming necessary to level up multiple classes so you can fill up your cross class skill slots with important skills from other classes.  I think someone mentioned that jobs don't have cross class skills (part of the reason they are not great solo).  So if you only play in groups using a job, you technically only have to level 2 classes.  But if you want to solo or play non-job classes, you could potentially need many classes.  I don't know how important the cross class skills are but it sure seems there will be a lot of synergy and getting a few will become necessary.

I am *extremely* happy that they opted for Subscription based.    I am sick of walking around in MMOs feeling like I'm walking through a car dealership with a dozen things trying to get me to spend money.

I'm also sick of looking at an awesome mount someone got and instead of thinking 'wow!  that guy found that awesome mount so I need to go to that dungeon and see if I can get it' I'm saying 'wow!  that guy paid 20 bucks for that awesome mount'.

THANK YOU for making this thing subscription based.   At least not everyone has lost their minds in 2013.

You just like throwing your money at developers for no apparent benefit?  Since there are game like Guild Wars 2 out there where not once did I feel like I was a second rate player compared to someone who has spent money beyond the retail cost of the game.
