I've been playing this pretty much non stop all day. Don't think I've done that since the early days of WoW.

Definitely up for a replay after I've finished it.   thumbsup

Check point only save earns the game a pretty bad black mark from me.

This. Fun, but man does this suck.

This sucks... especially since you don't have it in Bioshock 1 and 2 on the PC version

Agreed, what the heck?  disgust

For me the mouse sensitivity seems a little wonky. I've turned acceleration off, it moves too slowly turned all the way down but it goes up way too quickly from there to where my view flies all over the place with the slightest movement. Think I got it settled down but sheesh.

Another plus to the checkpoint saves suck. Maybe someone will figure out a way to implement them.

So far I'm not feeling the love. Maybe it is the extended opening, it is almost like they are saying 'hey, we can have NPC's that are not behind glass walls' but the whole city feels so artificial. Walk by a npc, hear their line or two, then move on.

The love will come, good sir. I agree with you, however, that there is very little innovation in the game. It's not entirely different from the original Bioshock, save a much better feel to the combat. I'm not sure the aging gen of consoles they had to keep in mind within development could produce much more than the typical system of Npc behavior they have in place.

Elizabeth, however, is very well done within that limitation, Imo.

Is everyone getting this for PC rather than console?  I'm always torn.  I know it will look better on the PC but I can't resell PC games once I've beaten them.

I'm playing it on Xbox and I really wish I could experience it on PC. The games art style is fantastic but a lot of the textures are pretty bad on console. The frame rate isn't too hot in places either. If you have a good PC, do yourself a favor and eat the $30 bucks you won't get back on what is likely to be the best game this year.

Yeah. So far this game is pretty amazing. So refreshing to play a non dude bro shooter again with a strong narrative.

If it weren't so cold out tonight I'd run out to pick it up. All these stellar reviews have me moderately hyped up. Oh well, I have the rest of the week off to play.  icon_wink

1999 mode doesn't sound like much fun considering there is no way to manually save your progress. Hopefully auto save checkpoints are generously interspersed through out.

I've not followed the game at all. Does one need to finish bioshock 2 before playing?

I doubt it.  Ken Levine didn't work on Bioshock 2 (If I remember correctly), and I haven't read anything that suggests the two worlds are related.

One thing I noticed watching the gametrailers review is that they were playing the PC version of the game.  I wonder how the console version looks.

From what I've gathered, the console versions look pretty good due to a fantastic art design but suffer from low rez textures similar to those in Dishonored. They also struggle with the frame rate in certain sections --primarily the latter section of the game.

I wish I had a PC capable of running it. Im not a graphics whore by any means but a low framerate really annoys me in a FPS.

Nah, it's got several other games above it, with Grand Theft Auto IV at the top. Even the original Bioshock is a step above already.

Ahh, ok. GTA IV being at the top definitely isn't in line with my opinion.  saywhat

Is this on pace to be the highest rated game of the generation? I'm cautiously keeping expectations in check seeing as most big budget games are on a 9-10 scale with critics.

Xcom coming to iOS this summer. Interestingly enough, it's the complete version with only some maps missing.

I don't think you understand the word "complete"

The best show ever gets one of the worst games of the year. Makes sense. Ride the popularity of the show with a quick cash in. Activision at its best.

Oh, I didn't realize this was a Breaking Bad game.  slywink

I think you mean Battlestar Galactica. If I'd known this was a BSG game I would have bought it immediately. I'm on my way to the store now!

To be fair, it's pretty close between BSG and TWD as my favorite. The best BSG game is the board game!

Nada. Trudging through Borderlands 2 currently and I'm starting to get the nagging feeling shooters don't do it for me anymore.

Still, I'll pick up Bioshock: Infinite I'm sure.

Hoping to get some board gaming in this weekend. If not, I'm hitting the backlog and will start either Borderlands 2 or Dragons Dogma.

61  Gaming / Analog Gaming / Re: Getting Back Into Board Games on: March 11, 2013, 03:03:30 PM
Thanks for the recommendations. Ordered Lords of the Waterdeep and Mr Jack. I'll probably end up getting quite a few more to throw into the rotation after I see if she'll continue to play on a regular basis.

Ok, so my wife doesn't like video games and I'd love to be able to include her in my gaming interest. Enter board games.

This weekend I bought Ticket to Ride and Forbidden Island. Both were very easy to learn but I had to go over the rules quite a few times before she got grasp of them. Once she did we had a blast playing. Can you guys recommend any other games along the lines of those two (coop or competitive) that aren't overly complicated to learn?

I just ordered the Lord of the Rings LCG but that will be something my son and I play I'm sure.

I'd be interested for nostalgia's sake but not at $20. Always thought RoN was the better RTS of the two.
65  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Tomb Raider on: March 07, 2013, 04:49:41 PM
Finished in 10 hours at 73% completion. It's a fun ride but my interest started to wane about mid way through after the honeymoon phase with the presentation.

Video games are interactive movies for the most part now. I've accepted that. However, once the spectacle wears thin, we need some solid writing to keep us enthralled!
66  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Tomb Raider on: March 06, 2013, 08:47:21 PM
I'm at 37% after roughly 4 hours play. Haven't been going out of my way to hunt down the hidden items so I'm sure that would have added a significant amount of play to my total.

One thing is for sure, though. The game is ridiculously easy. I've died maybe twice in combat so far playing on Normal.

I've heard this one has a significant reliance on quick-time events, is that true?  Would you say that it would be too annoying for somebody that generally hates QTEs?

There's been a few QTE sequences a few hours in. I'm not a fan of them myself but they haven't bothered me. If you happen to fail one it restarts you a few seconds before them.
68  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Tomb Raider on: March 06, 2013, 05:09:31 AM
This game. It's like Resident Evil 4 and Uncharted had a love child. The atmosphere is incredible. Reminds me a little of the show Lost.

For those that have tried the multiplayer, is it worth resubbing to Live to play?
69  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Tomb Raider on: March 06, 2013, 03:52:45 AM
These Ghost Hunter tokens are damn hard to see. Kinda nice you can fast travel back to previous areas to item hunt.
70  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Tomb Raider on: March 06, 2013, 01:36:44 AM
Finally sitting down to play it now. About a hour in and I'm blown away. The visuals are amazing and I'm digging the game play mechanics thus far.

This could be a contender!

Got lucky and someone canceled their pre order at Game stop so I was able to grab a copy of Etrian Odyssey. Best Buy told me they weren't even carrying it in-store. Guess it'll be another rare Atlus release.

Another argument for digital!  I downloaded it this morning without having to go to any stores to be told they don't have it or I should have preordered it.

I would have bought it on the Eshop but I wanted the art book (hardly an art book, a leaflet more like) and the soundtrack.

74  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [360/PC/PS3/WiiU]Aliens Colonial Marines on: February 17, 2013, 07:02:41 PM
Rented this from Redbox and my son and I finished it I'm coop in about five hours. Don't really have anything much to say that the dismal reviews haven't already said.

We did have a lot of laughs throughout the campaign over the various glitches and sheer absurdity pf the story and voice acting. Tried out the multiplayer a couple of times but it's just as awful.

A new Aliens game developed by Gearbox? Would have been an impulse purchase before the flood of negative opinions from people that got it early. Take a look at some of the game play videos people have made up on YouTube. It looks pretty bad. frown
78  Gaming / Portable Gaming & Apps / Re: Fire Emblem: Awakening coming Feb. 4 2013 to North America - Finally on: February 06, 2013, 01:31:34 AM
Definitely an early goty contender for me. Up to Chapter 5 on Normal/Classic and I have no complaints. A must have for fans of the series and it's probably the best one to jump into for newcomers with the addition of a casual mode.

The stylistic choice to having no feet on the characters is odd but it hardly interferes with my enjoyment. Hope this sells well so we continue to get them localized.

I wish I could get into games on my phone. I'd save a ton of money. Most of them are horrendous to play due to the virtual control pad/buttons. I'll stick to my 3DS.
