Titanfall, Thief (pending reviews,) and the next Halo.
2  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: The Weekend Playlist -- 12/20/13 on: December 21, 2013, 02:04:22 PM
I'm hooked on Assassins Creed IV (Xbone) currently. A few rounds of Powershot Golf in between.

Lots of Super Mario World 3D and A Link Between Worlds.
4  Gaming / Portable Gaming & Apps / Re: [3DS] Zelda A Link Between Worlds, Oracle of Ages/Seasons coming to eShop on: November 23, 2013, 02:49:37 AM
Trying to divide my limited gaming time between SMW3D and ALBW tonight. I'd be hard pressed to say which one I've enjoyed more thus far. Both phenomenal offerings from the big N.

Zelda is laced with sweet nostalgia and I can tell it will rank as one of my favorites when all is said and done. The visuals look so much better on the 3ds screen than what the trailers have shown. To be honest, I thought it looked quite bad but not so. Running at 60 fps in 3D is also quite impressive. More than anything else so far, I've been most smitten by the soundtrack. Using a set of Sennheiser buds, as the speakers on the XL suck, has been aurally orgasmic.

Great stuff, this.
5  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [wii u] Super Mario 3d World on: November 23, 2013, 02:39:40 AM
Played through World 1 with my wife. She's absolutely terrible at it but we had a lot of fun. The visuals are splendid and the stages have been varied with lots of cool designs. It's definitely not as 'epic' as SM64 or SMG were upon first playing but it's a blast in multiplayer.

I agree with the comment above about it being hard to judge jumping on enemies. The 3D display was invaluable for that in SML.
6  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: The "No Next-Gen Console" Support Group on: November 21, 2013, 08:30:42 PM
I can afford them both but there really isn't anything on them I'd enjoy playing. Its quite possible I may never make the next-gen jump as I'm rather content gaming on the 3ds for a hour before bed most evenings. I suppose I'm just getting old but the leap in visuals doesn't really do it for me anymore.
7  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: What are you buying this week? (11/18) on: November 18, 2013, 09:16:42 PM
Super Mario 3D World and the Zelda 3ds. Content in the old gen for awhile.
8  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: What are you buying this week? (09/16) on: September 19, 2013, 08:02:29 PM
GTA V 360 for me. It'll be my last purchase of the year unless my son wants the new CoD.
9  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Grand Theft Auto V on: September 17, 2013, 02:24:09 PM
I just installed disc one to the USB drive and play off of disc two. Performance seems fine. A little pop in here and there but nothing too distracting. The frame rate appears to be around 30 with occasional drops. I'm very happy with performance overall considering this is eight year old hardware. It's going to be jaw dropping on PC if they ever port it.

The game just keeps getting better and better. Strong contender for game of the generation.
10  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Grand Theft Auto V on: September 17, 2013, 06:07:48 AM
Not quite sure why people are up in arms over the game being ultra violent. It's a trademark of the series.

Anyways, picked it up at midnight at my local Walmart. Played about 45 minutes after a lengthy install on 360. Graphics are much improved over IV, the arcadey driving is back (Yay,) and the world is absolutely massive from what I can tell.

Looking forward to digging in further when I haven't been up 23 hours straight.
11  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: What are you buying this week? (09/09) on: September 10, 2013, 01:51:29 AM
Nothing. One more week of Diablo 3 play until a certain release next week consumes me.

Got my WD up to level 36 tonight. Almost to Act 2 Nightmare. I tried playing on the Master 1 setting and holy shit is it hard. I guess I'm not well equipped enough just yet.   icon_razz

I've completed Act 1 and it's safe to say I prefer the console version. Feels better on a game pad, better loot drops, and couch coop is awesome of course. Playing on hard normal mode is pretty challenging so far but aside from losing item durability on death, there really isn't much of a penalty considering you can re spawn at your corpse after five seconds. I'm sure the gold hit will be a pain in later difficulties, however.

I feel like there are way less drops than the PC version (granted it's been months since I played on PC so not sure if that's changed)

That's correct. Less drops, better chance at quality loot that actually benefits the class you're playing.

Bought Diablo 3 on the 360 this morning. It's not as pretty as it is on PC but it plays awesomely on a game pad and is 60 fps to boot.

If they port Reaper of Souls to next gen consoles, I'll likely buy the game for a third time.  icon_surprised

It also sucks that they apparently spawn zombies by you on certain missions, so even if you're careful to get to a house undetected, it still gets overrun when you get inside.  Joy.

That's disappointing. Scripted stuff like that seems so contrary to the emergent gameplay I thought they wanted us to experience.

I've seen very, very little of scripted stuff, and I've played what...10 hours by now?

One annoying thing is, that I read somewhere else that the game co

ntinues when you aren't playing, meaning that morale ill drop over time you are away from the game. If that is true, then its bullshit.

I just got a new base myself, and have way too many infestations around me right now. I have to say, you guys who have no difficulty handling a horde on your own when surprised - What kind of weapons do you use? I mean, you run out of stamina, your weapon can only hit one, maybe two zombies at a time, and hordes have around 10 of them?

Edit: Also, the other types of zombies are bastards!

I typically pop a snack and sprint some distance away to lay the fire bomb traps. Those usually decimate hordes with maybe a few stragglers left to clean up.

There's over 65k people on the leader boards so far. Not too shabby for its first day of release. My son and I have been taking turns playing it all day. Awesome game.

This is a great, great game. I'm having so much fun, trying to make ends meet, survive , and when its night, I' terrified. So far, I've spent 3 hours playing this, and its probably the most fun I've had this year gaming - I really, really recommend it!

Yes, I'd also have to agree. My only complaint with the game is the tearing and occasional frame rate drop.

Stop the planet. I want off.

Hopefully most of the injured will recover without complications. I saw a lot of limb loss in the graphic photos posted on various news sites. Just terrible. frown

I suppose we're in for wild speculation over the upcoming days as to the culprit. Luckily they'll find out and bring them to justice speedily.

After having tried the Motocross Madness trial, nothing.

That bad?  Maybe we should start a thread discussing it.  smile

I doubt it would be much of a thread. But yeah, it's pretty bad. Only nine tracks, loose handling, and ugly visuals. There's a reason it's only 800 mp.

I thought the demo was a lot of fun, and I thought the game looked great.  The lack of tracks may be a problem, but there seems to be a ton to do within those tracks (alternate paths, collectibles, levelling-up, etc).  Reviews so far are good, although some users are reporting bugs.

The alternate routes through the tracks are pretty cool. It reminds me of Joyride Turbo quite a bit in that regard. It's also lacking any significant challenge aside from finding collectibles in free roam, again, like Joy ride.

But I digress. I simply didn't find it to my liking. I've got loads to do yet in Terraria & Battleblock before Monaco hits.

AAA: Bioshock Infinite closely ahead of Tomb Raider.

AA: Battleblock Theater.
29  Gaming / Analog Gaming / Re: Getting Back Into Board Games on: April 09, 2013, 03:04:56 AM
Finally got a chance to play Lords of Waterdeep this past weekend. What an awesome euro style game. We must have played it four or five times and it was a blast. As was suggested, I did have to teach my wife to ignore the fantasy theme. For some reason it's automatically "too complicated" if there's any flavor themed text in a game. She just doesn't have the attention span to invest into anything other than rolling a dice and moving to win.

The rest of us loved it. Looking forward to the expansion.

Wanted to actually get outside this weekend with the nice weather but I've came down with a cold or something.

Got a stack of board games coming in the post today but I'll likely be playing some Terraria and Battleblock Theater.
31  Gaming / Analog Gaming / Re: Bioshock Infinite: The Siege of Columbia boardgame on: April 05, 2013, 01:12:19 AM
Looks interesting. I've yet to pick up Mice and Mystics but have read good things about Plaid Hat Games.

I won't even play GTA or TLoU due to disinterest so barring some surprise release, Bioshock is likely my pick. Thing is, I didn't really enjoy the actual game play in Bioshock. The great story is what drove me to complete it.

Would love to see a film studio do it justice but we know how often that happens...

Starting a second play through to see how the story washes over me now I know the conclusion. I wanted to play the 1999 mode to get all the achievements but I don't think I'd have the patience on a couple of the harder parts, at least not on a console.

You can upgrade salts with infusions to the point you'll hardly ever run out. Later in the game, salts are scattered all over the place and vending machines are in ample supply. Not to mention Elizabeth will occasionally throw you one when you're low.
