561  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Guitar Hero 3 Demo on: October 18, 2007, 05:01:34 AM
The timing of the notes seemed okay if a little more forgiving.  On GH2 I had trouble HO PO on long passages but this one I could do alot better.

The interface does take some getting used to.  Even though it says Star Power Ready I would forget to use it.

I don't like some of the mis hit sounds.  They seem a little low volume at times and I don't notice that I miss until I look at the meter.

562  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Guitar Hero 3 Demo on: October 17, 2007, 11:30:59 PM
Well I got home from work and tried it again and the same thing.  The strum bar is very sensitive.  If I take my time and make sure that I don't let it return past center I have no problem but start playing with a pick, game over.

I then went and played GH2 with pick and no problem.   I'm not saying the game is bad but for me if this is true of the new guitar and retail version I am going to have to learn to play a different way.

I also tried not using a pick but hit the strum bar pretty hard with my thumb and the same thing happened.  I play guitar and bass so I tried that method too and again it would register when it would come back up.

I plan on getting the GH3 guitar and Rock band guitar.  I did read that the strum bar on the GH3 guitar will be higher so that may help.

I like playing the game.  They did make the ho and po easier as I was able to nail long passages without much trouble.  Maybe it is my guitar or a problem with the OXM demo.

563  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Guitar Hero 3 Demo on: October 17, 2007, 06:29:52 PM
In case you didn't know you can get the demo in the new Tony Hawk or OXM.
Also posted at OS.

Woohoo!!! Saw that the demo was in the OXM so I took an early lunch and drove through the rain to get my copy. They had it so I paid then rushed back home.

Stuck the disc in the drive and plugged in my guitar and loaded GH3.

Looked at the song list and picked Lay Down by Priestess on extreme.

The song loaded and here came the notes. Good note, Plink, Plink, Good note, Plink, Plink.
Goes on like that and I fail the song in 30 seconds.

I'm like wait, I think I am pretty good and it isn't that hard so I go into the video calibration thinking it is my TV. Go through the calibration and it registers 1ms. (You can change it to what you want this time, there is also a whammy calibration). So no I guess it isn't that.

I pick the easy song Hit me with your best shot. Again play and fail pretty early on. By now I am really getting mad. What could be wrong? Are my eyes going out? Have I lost all rhythm.

I have always played Guitar Hero with a pick and never had any trouble. Well it seems for this demo when I hit the strum bar with the pick the bar registers when it comes back into place. I also play with my fingers and again it would register when the strum bar came back up.

So I had to make sure that when I hit the strum bar that my thumb rested on it so that it wouldn't register when it came back up. Once I did that then I could play through the songs.

I hope this is fixed with the new guitar or the final version.

Let me know if anyone else has this problem.

This doesn't happen in GH1 or GH2 on PS2 or 360 so it has to be this game. I still will buy the game but will have to learn a new way to play but I like playing with a pick because it makes it feel to me even more immersive.

Anyway get the demo and let me know.

Sorry about gamersgate.  I just read a note from the Puzzle Quest official forums that gamers gate altered some of the original files and that the developer will have a fix hopefully this week.

I picked it up yesterday as well.  Pretty interesting story to say the least but it does seem to grow on you.

It was good but not game of the year.  When I finished Metroid 3 it stuck with me,  but with Halo it just like any other game.   Still great but not the best.
569  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Come to this thread when you've beaten Halo 3 (ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK) on: September 26, 2007, 09:54:43 AM
Same here I hit the button and level 8 was just a run through.

I played through the game in Coop and it is a blast.  We played straight through on heroic. 8 hours so not too bad now for multiplayer.

Beat the game today with 77% and 18 hours of play and enjoyed every minute of it.

Great game.
573  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [Wii] Metroid Prime Corruption impressions on: August 29, 2007, 02:00:01 PM
Played about an hour and like everyone else really like it.  Took a little while to get used to the controls.  I am using advanced
and was having a hard time aiming, shooting and strafing, but it is starting to click now.

Isn't Tiger on the 360 as well.

Lair (maybe).
575  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: Spending Spree - Viewsonic 28 on: August 27, 2007, 02:26:30 PM
I love the monitor.  I haven't really noticed the vertical viewing angle problems,  I sit right in front maybe that is why.
It was only $679, so I think it was a bargain.  They had a 24" for $659 so for $20 more I got the extra 3.5 inches it says 28 but it is really 27.5.

Gaming is awesome on this screen and text viewing is fine as well.   I would recommend it.

I am also considering getting a new case but not sure which one.  I was looking at the Antec P180 or the Antec 900 Gaming cased($79 @ Comp).

576  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: New vid card? What's the bang for the buck on: August 23, 2007, 04:06:09 AM
Just remember if you are going to be playing in hi-res on a big monitor you will need the 640 or 768 memory to play at those resolutions.

577  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Spending Spree - Viewsonic 28 on: August 23, 2007, 04:02:46 AM
Well I broke down today and bought the Viewsonic 28 inch 1080P computer monitor today.  Sorry Bioshock...

I also recently bought the geforce 8800 GTS and Logitech G15 and Zboard Frag, so my wallet is really hurting.

The monitor is real nice with clear text and huge screen for a great price.   The only big drawback is the stand it doesn't adjust very much but other than that it is very nice.

578  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Bioshock pc review...pc better on: August 20, 2007, 07:27:29 PM
Just bought a 5800+ AMD Dual core and 8800 gtx card so I'm not sure which one either.  I use steam and could be playing at midnight but it is a hard decision to make.
579  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Hot Shots Golf 5 Impressions on: August 20, 2007, 07:16:53 PM
Well I imported the Minna Golf 5(Hot Shots Golf 5) from playasia and it is really good.

The graphics are really nice.  The camera angles are are really cool as well.

There is a new shot mechanic based on the click method.  You have to watch the backswing and click that for power then you have to click
again right when you hit the ball.  On putting you see a ball go out and then click when it reaches the distance you think will sink the put.  It
does offer a little more difficulty.

There is still not an option to turn off the talking of the caddies and characters which is bad in my opinion but they are not as bad as HSG4 so I
can live with that.

If you can't wait till it gets out over here it is a good game to import due to numbers being universal.  If you get the asia version they send you an
english booklet of the menus.

581  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Hold a tick...GH: Rocks the 80s Warning on: July 25, 2007, 03:35:32 AM
I concur I was really disappointed by this game.  The covers just had no life in them and some of the songs were missing parts.  Metal Health no solo missing some notes in Play with me.

There were about 8 songs that I liked and would play again but the others just bad no fun at all.  I guess all energy into Rock Band.
582  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: NFL 2K8. on: July 20, 2007, 02:31:19 PM
Love the game but I havent had an offensive blowout yet.  I have played about 6 games and my highest score was 21 so the defense is very good.

I really need to add more plays to my playbook.  There are so many plays in there it will probably take some time to pick and get rid of the ones I will use.
If you haven't looked at the playbooks yet get ready.

583  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Fess up - who bought Bomberman XBLA? on: July 19, 2007, 02:02:20 PM
Bought it and played for around an hour and it was very fun.  I didn't win one match but hopefully will get better.  I hope a lot of GT's get this game as it is very fun  and is a blast mp.

584  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: NFL 2K8. on: July 16, 2007, 02:01:28 PM
Not sure why people are saying the Single player is not that great.  You make up your teams of different all-stars and play 16 games with them.  Once that is done I believe that I would probably like to try other combinations of people and that is why there is no franchise mode but it should still be great the only downside is the stat keeping from multiple seasons but again these are the all time greats so I still think it will be great.
Madden is in development every year while 2k was not being worked on until a year or so ago so it really isn't fair to compare the two since 2k basically is 3 years behind.  If they had been working on this for 3 years I can't imagine how great this game would be.  Hopefully they make enough money to do this again and we
can see how much it will improve.

586  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Trackmania Evolved Impressions on: June 28, 2007, 06:02:17 PM
Wow I got this game through Steam and I must say it is a great little race game.  The graphics are great especially the water and the gameplay is very addictive.

I never played any of the other Trackmania games so this was a refreshing experience.   I haven't tried to create my own tracks yet but it looks to be fun.

587  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PSP] Own Lumines? Now you can totally hack your PSP with it! on: June 28, 2007, 06:00:09 PM
I got the custom firmware last night and was up until 2 playing with it.

I backed up some of my games and put them on my memory stick and that in itself is worth it.  The speed increase and not having to lug around all my games is a great thing.

There was no loading at all for Hot Shots Golf, just like playing a DS games.

Repurchase Resident Evil 4.  Never played ps2 version so at least get to see some new content.

DIRT.  Can't wait for this.  I like Forza 2 but I love off road racing so it should be great.

591  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Prince of Persia Classic: Anyone Get it? on: June 13, 2007, 06:55:16 PM
Well I couldn't resist and remember you can always make more money.

I bought it at lunch and got to play for about 20 minutes.

The gameplay graphics are really nice and the prince animates well.  The cutscenes were ok but I think they could have been better. Also there is no sound during them.

The controls are pretty good and responsive.  I didn't make too many mistakes.  It does do little things that are nice.  If you are a little under a ledge he will backup a little before jumping so he will grab the ledge instead of just jumping up and doing nothing.  The swordplay is nice and has a nice matrix effect when you parry an attack.  Also if your swords meet you have to button press x to win the battle and there are different animations when you land the killing blow on your enemy.

The sound is where I am a little disappointed.  Maybe just a childhood memory but when you were sliced by the blades, punctured by the spikes, or flattened by  the dungeon floor, the sound effects were gruesome.  They just don't have the punch in this version.  I am going to play the original to the original to check.

Overall it is a good purchase for me $10 is a little steep but to relive a childhood memory, I actually beat this game as a kid, it does fine.

I really blow online. I don't know if I cause a lot of crashes or if I'm just involved in a lot. Either way, it's ugly when I'm on the track near another car.

I also can't seem to keep up with anyone but the back of the pack when we play online. Is it my car or my shitty driving skills?

I don't know but we crashed quite a bit on Friday or Saturday not sure which.

Tomb Raider Anniversary is very temping, but I really can't decide on which system I should get it for; PS2 or PC. I played the original and it's 2 sequels on the PC, but I enjoyed the controls on the XBox version of TR: Legends better than any of these. Decisions....decisions...

If you have the 360 pc wireless adapter you can use your 360 controller for the pc and the game supports it.
595  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Weekend Recap 6-4-2007 on: June 04, 2007, 02:27:35 PM
Played alot of Forza2.  Great game.  Got my wheel got my cockpit and roaring to go.  The only problem is if you have the wheel and you have a controller you can't do anything with the controller.  I would like to customize my car but unless I unplug my wheel the controller will not control anything.

Played about 2 hours of Guitar Hero 2.  Trying to 5 star on Hard but the last 2 sections are rough.

I finally found Crush for the PSP and got to play around with that.  It is a nice and new puzzle game.  I played for about an hour and I took a small nap and was trying to crush things in my dreams so it is that type of game.

Got a girl I've been seeing to play Lego Star Wars 2 for 360. She never really played games before and did okay.  Double jumping onto platforms was very hard though.  I kept saying double jump double jump and press forward.  She did watch and help my play Indigo Prophecy for about 2 hours so that is good.

I am really trying to get into Dragon Quest 8.  I am at the first quest and keep dying.  It starts out very hard for some reason I have deid like 5 times. Maybe it's just me but man.

And finally I started  Final Fantasy XII.  Good looking game just hope it keeps my interest.

I had a great gaming weekend just need more time to play games.  Sorry work.....

Assuming I can get ePSXe running, I'll be re-starting FFVII as well.

I used to use ePSXe but a new one came out that is very impressive and easy to use.  You don't have to configure plugins and it works great and I haven't had any trouble setting it up.   Also when the window is out of focus the cpu consumption is really really low, which is good so when you use it at work you can switch when someone comes and your pc will not be bogged down.  (not that I do that).

I just bought the Playseat Evolution racing chair so probably alot of Forza 2 and other racing games.

Freya is a stumbling block.  That sequence is a killer.  One hint try to just play the O-YB forget the Green and you should make it through without failing.

That was a good demo and I will be picking up that game.

I like the combat even though it is at the easy stage right now.  Moving and attacking is good to me.

The graphics are great as well.  Have you been to the flower garden? That was a beautiful place.
