(Even if you've seen it already, go watch Dog Soldiers just to like werewolves again.

I prefer the classics.  So that's why An American Werewolf in London is always at arm's length at my place for such an emergency.  I also reach for 30 Days of Night whenever I get depressed about the state of Vampires in modern film.

One of my favorite werewolf movies, nay my favorite, is Gabriel Knight- the Beast Within. Sure it was an FMV game, but if you sit back and watch the story, it a good one.

Yeah, the Marvel live action film division is stomping all over Warner Bros..  However, the DC Animated division of Warner Bros has consistently put out films with better stories.  You'd think DC would find some way to capitalize on that.

After hearing that Netflix was cutting 3D offerings I was surprised to find things like "The Croods" listed for show. It may be that where is up is just what is left in the pipeline.

Among them is something called "Scary Tales.". I watched the first episode and will watch the rest. It is a series about older versions of fairy tales. Each episode is divided into two segments. The first one dealt with Red Riding Hood, complete with cannibalism and and slaughter, and then the story of Bluebeard. During the segment there are interviews with people discussing the truth behind the stories and the state of the world at the time. I am looking foward to Cinderella's step sisters getting their eyes pecked out.

Almost any Adventure Game.

They always sound so appealing, but end up never reeling me in.

.

Does that go for the Gabriel Knight games too?  I love adventure games, but those stand out to this day. I include Grim Fandango and the Tim Schafer stuff in that list. Monkey Island for example.

I never liked text adventures, spent too much time trying to figure out how to get the Babel Fish in my ear. biggrin
8  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: [movie] Batman vs Superman (Man of Steel 2) on: February 01, 2014, 03:36:00 PM
Disclaimer: I've not yet seen Man of Steel, so this question comes from ignorance.

Has there ever been a story where Superman killing has come to a good ending?

I just watched the JLA animated arc on the Justice Lords, Injustice, etc. I think there was one about killing Zod in a pocket universe, but even that had some bad repercussions as I recall.
9  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: [movie] Superman: Man of Steel on: January 28, 2014, 01:39:35 AM
I've only watched the first 10 minutes, but I enjoy that version of Krypton much more than how it's been portrayed for the last 30 or so years. It reminded me of the pre-John Byrne Krypton with thought beasts and fire falls.

As I said, not seen this yet, but I have seen Justice League: War (the New 52 based animated). I also rewatched Superman (1978) lately. If the Man of Steel character is like the one in War, I much prefer the older characterization.

No characters that are under contract (unless they fall under the mutant ban), superpowers, yeah, I am in for that. An Invaders buildup with Carter as their Colson. biggrin

I wonder if they could throw a Human Torch episode or two in that kind of show. Or Namor. Both active during WWII
12  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: [movie] Batman vs Superman (Man of Steel 2) on: January 18, 2014, 03:05:53 PM
Does that mean no DC universe movies until 2016?

I guess the TV shows will lay ground work for the movie then, which I guess is not too bad an idea....Batman cameo on Arrow; Superman caught in a magic web in Constantine; Flash fighting parademons in Central City. Jim Gordon's relationship with Batman built up through Gothom for his chance to give Batman advice before "vs" Superman.   icon_biggrin

I am on the binge end if the watching world, for the most part. Mainly for shows with meta arcs. American Horror Story for example. Episodic shows, like Bones, not worried about.

I certainly prefer to wait for the end of their run. TRON Uprising is an example. My own style of watching fits right in with Netflix Original programming.

in a way I kind of miss the months of having nothing new to watch; it kind of takes away from the magic of the start of the TV season slywink

I miss the special Saturday morning new season preview shows. When Saturday morning cartoons were fun, we didn't need moral or math lessons, and old man Wilkerson was also taken down by those meddling kids and their dog.

Yeah, what he said about Smallville.

I just finished Breaking Bad (thanks marathon) and still have the entire season of Bates Motel to watch, face off, glee, several others on dvr, supernatural still hanging on netfix, etc. not sure if I can take too many more new shows

It's a brave new world that rerun season is a thing of the past. (well, really, it's a brave OLD world since I think reruns were unheard of until the 1960s).

I am looking forward to Being Human(American), Lost Girl, and curious about the new werewolf show with Supergirl.

Not looking forward to a Sandman movie, I always thought that the format seems a better fit for Television.  I'll watch it, of course. smile

I almost have an Alan Moore atitude about it, no matter how the movie goes, the original survives untouched. biggrin.   I feel dirty now, agreeing with Alan Moore.

23  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: [Movie]Thor:The Dark World on: November 25, 2013, 12:55:01 AM
Saw it today, enjoyed it. My personal tastes wish that the sci-fi was toned down and the Myth/Magic was more. I miss the Mythic beings of the old comics too, so its my personal tastes on the current interpretation. If Dr. Strange is tied into this universe, then actual magic exists and so why not mythic gods?  Stan Lee, always a pleasure to pick him out in these.

Now, can someone explain the ending of the movie to me.. The throne room scene?

PS4 will not support 3D Bluray at launch

I'll say what I said when the Xbone came out with this news.    I don't watch 3D blurays so it doesn't affect me.

That is odd, cause a Sony executive recently (after the news came out that the Xbone didn't) said that it did. I don't watch 3d Blurays either though, so either way, I don't care.

That would kill any PS4 purchase for me.

I just deposited my PS4 + games cash, so I'm good to go. Next project is to get my PS3 moved over to the living room so that my kids can assume 'ownership' of the system. How does that work in terms of IDs for them? Can I create IDs for them as children, or should they just piggyback on my id?

Thursday night on my ride home from work I plan to swing by my local Gamestop just to see what the line looks like. With a midnight launch I'm assuming people will be lined up hours and hours ahead of time.

If you happen to know where I can still score a PS4 local, drop me a line, please.  I'd love to avoid the line wait.

Thnx

The Mulan-Beauty-Philip story hasn't done anything for me. Seems like, those characters are just there to escort The main ones around for a while. I've no reason to care about them yet. Robin and his son were more interesting to me.

even Hook?

got to say I'm not liking the Wonderland spinoff as much as I thought I would.  Alice and the other guy aren't very likeable, the Red Queen seems to have as much acting ability as one of the CGI props, and Jafar seems like he would be more menacing to airport security than to anyone else.

Even Hook. Love of his life, Neal's mom. They were as married as they could be without a ceremony. Common law I suppose. Then there was the time Neal spent in Neverland aboard the Jolly Roger as Hook's surrogate son. So, yep, I count Hook in that number

Has anyone else noticed that, except for Emma and Neal, everyone is Henry's grandparent? (except Regina who would be his step-great-grandmother)

was kind of disappointed that the 'group' looking to destroy magic was all a ruse by Pan.  I was looking forward to some real world group vs fairy tale group conflict.

Interesting start though, hoping the mermaid (I'm assuming Ariel) comes back soon.  Is it wrong that I'm hoping Baelfire bites it so Hook and Emma can hook up?

So wrong. You'll kill all that tension for the inevitable triangle!

I am still holding out that Regina is the MOST related to Henry.  eek

I haven't seen any of the items in my queue showing Super HD yet, but looking forward to the 3D content.

All I saw were very few, I think children's shows from Europe maybe? CGI. I am just hoping that my search parameters were off.
