While it lacks the versatility and offensive punch of the advanced fighter jobs, it does have several useful abilities: Accumulate (action), Gained JP Up (support), and Move +1 (movement). Man, this game can be aggravating.  I just hit what I assume is the major plot twist (which was awesome), but am now back to feeling like I'm really missing something.  I've opened up S-Links with some of my team members (Mitsuru, Yukari, & Fukka), but they're never anywhere to be found so I can't ever improve them.  I've seen Yukari a few times in the classroom (she's now at level 6), but I've literally only been able to find Mitsuru and Fukka one time.    It seems like everyone else's schedule has mysteriously changed as well.  The "Student Council" link says it's available on Mondays, but I've gotten a "There's noone here today" message the last two Mondays I've gone there.

I've also had nothing to do during the Evenings for the last couple in-game weeks.  I've maxed out all the S-links that were available at night (Businessman & monk), all my character stats are maxed so studying or working does no good, the next block of Tartarus is still blocked off, and there's no one to rescue.  I've simply gone to bed early because there's honestly nothing else I can do and no one else I can talk to.

I've got to be missing something...right?

Check a FAQ on the S. Links to be sure.  There are definitely times that, due to story reason, certain S. Links won't be available.

The "nothing to do in the evening" thing was a major issue in vanilla P3 that was supposedly improved in FES but it sounds like they didn't do enough.  It's pretty much fixed in P4 since they add in part time jobs you can do as well as a much more balanced load of when S. Links are available.

it's also much improved when playing as the femc...

otherwise, what kg says - i remember hitting the same thing in my original playthru. no, you're not missing something, & there's really nothing to do but check around after school each day, & otherwise get plenty of rest smile ...

i read graham's review again, & he's much kinder than me smile . this game, even with the fresh coat of paint & soundtrack changes (the latter of which even i'm not really fond of) is, mechanically, well past it's expiration date, & strictly for 'gamerologists' &/or smt freaks,

I'm guessing I'll fall into the "smt freaks" category. I absolutely love the SMT universe. This has been sitting on my shelf since the initial release, but something always gets in the way of playing it. I'm hoping Persona 2 gets ported eventually.

afa persona, i think i would've been just as happy with a psn release of the original ps1 version, & will likely be going ahead with the originals of both p2s (thanks to the fan localization of innocent sin) on my hacked psp rather than wait - i doubt that even if they do ever get around to porting them, they'll be changing anything other than the same cosmetic type stuff...

what these 3 games really need (& deserve) are remakes. as in, ff3/ff4 level remakes (with revised personas/skills & fusion mechanics) - now that i'd possibly wait for. fat chance smile ...

edit: made it to the final dungeon, & it needs to be said: there're aspects of this friggin' game that're just plain awful! smile ...

seriously - i don't think i'm spoiling anything by mentioning there's a dungeon towards the end where you're only allowed to use 2 party members (yourself included), but which features the same hardcore mobs you've been taking on with all 5. to the extent they can one-hit very easily, it's a pure, nightmarish crap shoot moving from save point to save point (not to mention that, at one point, it features a somewhat extended sequence that obviously has to be redone each time you get wiped after doing it - that was 4 times in my case smile ). mix that with the overall problematic nature of having to level personas in order to unlock their best skills while still packing enough firepower (i eventually went with 2 characters doing the leveling chores), the bogus negotiation mechanic, & the unbelievably high world map encounter rate, & you've got yourself one often miserable experience...

everything else is fine (the story/character part, especially), & the combat itself, while a bit over-complicated, is acceptable. really makes me wish they left the graphics/music alone, & put their energy into cleaning up some of the mechanics instead, because there's lots of good stuff here (cuz i'd no way in hell still be playing if there wasn't smile )...

as is, as painful, repetitious, & confusing as much of the gameplay is, i've definitely been enjoying it smile . & i'm thinking it's not really so different from going back & revisiting early iterations of any current rpg series, & only really complicated by the fact that the smt 'persona/fusion' element is somewhat unique to the genre - i mean, even in it's current streamlined forms, it still seems to require a bit of time/effort to click for many rpg vets slywink ...

so, as a fan, it's been kinda interesting seeing this element play out in it's raw, sometimes bizarre/counter-intuitive, kitchen sink form. i've always believed that there's 2 kinds of 'wtf?' - good & bad. &, as often as not, persona's featured more of the former, & (from a gamerologist point of view, anyway) i can handle that smile ...

Is it going to be "disco Tartarus" for the remainder of the game, or are there additional blocked paths further up that will change the tileset?

next barrier is just past 211. & beyond that lies the final (non- dayglo / velvet painting) block (&, optionally, if you can beat the reaper, monad)...

The genre for Nippon Ichi and Image Epoch's new PSP title is "RPG Where You Punish Girls." While the new game has 2D sprite visuals and an overhead view, the subject matter seems to be leaning a bit toward the adult side.

Details on the all new Criminal Girls have leaked out from this week's Dengeki PlayStation (thanks for the heads-up, Yuan!). In this unique RPG, you assume the role of guardian to young female criminals who've ended up in hell. You'll need to reform these girls as you lead them to the top of a tower and eventually back into the living world.

How you go about reforming the girls is where the "punish" part of the genre comes into play. You'll apparently be able to physically punish the girls. Screens in the magazine show the option for spanking, for instance. Some of these punishments require the game to use mosaics so that you don't see certain areas....

tho, in the end, i'd say better to err on the side of too much rather than too little. & i can't see ms continuing to walk the tightrope they've created beyond the next 2-3 years. i don't think disc-swapping's a big deal on the user end - it's the fact that developers are either stuck working within the confines imposed by a dvd's storage capacity (which is basically a completely arbitrary number), or left to accommodate for exceeding it. so much more straightforward to simply go with either blu-ray or dd...

Depends on how you "judge" a game - If you judge a game according to your own likes and dislikes, well, then its exactly as you say it is. If you judge a game based on its own merits, its genre, contemporaries and in general in comparison to other current games, then its more of a technical judgement, and not subject to as much personal bias.

I think what people react to is the strong words that people like WBS use about the game . I liked the game, a lot - that means, when someone says its "This is the most overwritten, self indulgent bullshit-fest I've played" I react strongly to the words, as of course was the intention behind the words.

well put, dude smile ...

The levels are getting bigger and bigger and the respawn rates getting higher, which means I'm refighting the same enemies over and over and over and over and over and over again.  They're not really getting more difficult, mind you, it's just that my spells take up more SP so I have to jump down to base camp and heal more often.  Just beat the boss on the 171st floor, and am working my way up to the next one.  I'll stick with it at least to the next Tartarus block, but I'm not sure how much more of this I really want to grind through.

what i did (up till the final block, where you'll sometimes need more powerful spells) was equip an mp replenish accessory on the mc (or have a persona with mp replenish), & then limit most battles to the mc using low/mid-level area spells that hit weak points followed by all-out assaults, & save party member spells for the tougher battles. doing this, along with just going from one set of stairs to the next (rather than clearing floors) pretty much allowed me to get from one boss station to the next non-stop (& then i'd return, heal, repeat). beyond that, if i wanted to level up a bit before the full moon, i'd just go back a couple times over the course of the month...

don't let the tartarus wreck the game for you. in my first playthru, sept/oct was my make it / break it point - i actually put the game aside for a couple of days. then i went back in, used the above approach, & never looked back. i can only tell you that, as much as you admire & enjoy the other aspects of the game, the final stretch & the ending of p3p are every bit as good & satisfying, & truly worth the effort...

tho i suppose it served to keep the story kinda interesting, i wasn't too crazy about the 'character leaves the party' parts - it never seriously messed me up, but i could see where it might if you'd already chosen to go with other characters. &, speaking of the story, it was, for me, easily the weakest part of the game. up til maybe 2/3 of the way thru, the story-telling was almost doggedly single-minded & simplistic, particularly when compared to what i'd consider to be the best games in the genre. &, even when compared to some srpgs with equally simplistic stories (like the 2 ffta games), there was just this overwhelming mundanity, in both the dialog & pacing, which felt very out of sync with what was supposed to be, & definitely looked & sounded like, an epic tale (&, yeah, the language/accent-based attempts to lighten things up a bit went quickly from obnoxious to just plain painful)...
