2401  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Early word on "Iron Man" on: May 13, 2008, 01:09:10 AM
Robert Downey Jr. owned this movie!  Tony Stark could be an ass but you still had to like him.  Downey walked that line to perfection.  This movie is gonna clean up!
Oh regarding Speed Racer,  a few friends of mine saw it and said it was "good, not great" and warned me that the special effects are definately not suitable for people prone to seisures or motion sickness.  With all of the movies coming out in the near future, Speed is relegated to a rental for me.

Of course holding Indy 2 and 3 up to the standards set by Raiders is almost unfair.  I do have a good feeling about 4 though, for a few reasons.  1)  Marion Ravenwood!!!
no doubt she was the best Indy woman and bringing her back is awesome. 2) Time.  enough time has passed that the whole Willie Scott fiasco is just a bad dream now.
3)  All the geriactric jokes aside, I believe Harrison Ford still has the chops to pull this off.  4)  Have you seen Karen Allen in the previews?  It looks like they stored her in tupperware for the last 20 years.  She's hardly aged a day.  Anyone seen Kate lately?  Didnt think so!   icon_wink
Anyway I believe this movie is gonna be fantastic which is going to be great for the movie industry as Ironman has already proven to be a monster hit and theres some pretty good stuff down the road this summer.

This is a good start but theres no guarantee that they can save the series from the incredible shark jumping train wreck that was season 2.  It was so bad that the writers strike may have saved Heroes from cancellation.  I hope Kring uses the long hiatus to fix all the damage done and get the show back on track.

Im not sure why theres so much Verbinski hate here.  While I didnt think the 2nd and 3rd Pirates movies were as good as the first, I still enjoyed them and I thought the 1st one was awesome.  I think this is going to suprise you all and be a great movie and thus set the standard for game to movie conversions for the next 10 years.  of course considering that most game to movie conversions are absolute crap ( thank you Uwe! )  theres a low bar to start with

Missy Peregrim (I think that is the actress that plays Andi's name) is so freaking hot it is stupid.

You mean this Missy Peregrym?

All I can say is God Bless America!  They are actually paying someone to jump all over Missy.  Damn did my highschool guidance counselor steer me in the wrong direction!

ps: Nice to see Dee from Battlestar Galactica get some work.

Damn  Im almost envious of people who havent seen Raiders!  I saw it with a bunch of friends on opening day.  It was so awesome, my friends and I immediately bought tickets and watched it a second time.  Raiders is the only movie Ive ever done that with.  On a related note, I have a home theatre projection set up in my basement.  The weekend before the new Indy comes out I am running an Indy triple feature.  Beer, bbq ribs and an Indy triple feature! Good times!
2407  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Ow, ow, ow - I have food poisioning on: May 07, 2008, 02:04:21 PM
Food Poisoning is generally a short term illness, 24 hours or less.  If youve been experiencing symptoms for several days then theres probably something else going on here and you should see a doctor asap.  I had a bout of the flu that lasted 4 days recently.  There are also many chronic illnesses that are misdiagnosed as food poisoning such as diverticulitis and Krones disease.

After all, some antibiotics come from mold so it can't be all bad?

Dude,  its awesome that you wrote your own epitaph!

I am so looking forward to seeing this flick glad to see that so many of you are raving about it.  BTW anyone who thinks Downey has lost his acting chops, check out Zodiac.

Barry Melrose deserves a major helping of crow as he picked the Avs to handle the RedWings easily.  Im sure he will fall back on the injury crutch to save face but regardless of that, you can not deny that the Wings dominated the Avs completely.
They look like a completely different team ever since they put Ozzie back in goal.  If they can sustain even close to this level of play, I cant see anyone beating them in a seven game series.  While im glad to see Detroit have an easy series with a nice rest break, I definately miss the intensity of the old Avs - Wings rivalry.  when that was at its peak it was the best hockey rivalry ever.  No holds barred, absolute hatred between the 2 and every game was a war.  Good times!
2412  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: [books] Fantasy Recommendation? on: April 30, 2008, 12:59:21 AM
I would definately recommend Lord Of Light.  That is one of my all time favorites. Roger Zelanzy was an awesome writer and if you are willing to tear into a series, by all means read the Amber series.  Actually the individual books are 200-300 pages if I recall, so the first series of 5 books is probably not much larger than some of todays monster novels.
2413  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: [TV] Reaper (spoilers) on: April 30, 2008, 12:43:10 AM
I watch it too. Its fun and damn Andi can be awesomely hot!  Ray Wise is definately great as the devil.  I love how he's almost likable and buddy like and just when your guard is down WHAM, youve been Satanized!  I definately hope they renew the show but then thats probably the kiss of death.  Still if Moon Bloodgood were on the show it would be dead already so there is hope.

Try Vernor Vinge's  Fire Upon the Deep.   It kind of covers all that you are looking for and its a fantastic read.
