Anyway,  back on topic :    for those who know what a real dessert is I give you Key Lime Pie!

INGREDIENTS
1/2 cup fresh lime juice (6-8 "Key Limes" or 3 to 4 common limes)
4 teaspoons grated lime zest
4 egg yolks
1 - 14 ounce can sweetened condensed milk
11 graham crackers
3 tablespoons granulated sugar
5 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
PREP WORK It's easier to remove the lime zest from whole limes so I would start with that. Then I would cut the limes in half and squeeze out the juice being careful not to include any pits.

Process the graham crackers in a food processor or blender and then melt the butter and have it at the ready.

1. Whisk the egg yolks and lime zest together in a bowl until tinted light green. This takes about 2 minutes

2. Beat in milk, then juice and set aside at room temperature till it thickens.

3. Preheat oven to 325 degrees.

4. Mix graham cracker crumbs and sugar in another bowl.

5. Add butter and stir with a fork until well blended.

6. Pour this mixture into a 9-inch pie pan and press over the bottom and up the sides of the pan. Try using the bottom of a measuring cup to make sure the graham cracker mixture forms a firm crust on the bottom of the pie pan.

7. Bake on the center rack for about 15 minutes until the crust is lightly brown, remove and let cool to room temperature.

8. Pour the lime filling into crust, spread evenly, and then bake for 15 minutes until the center sets, but still wiggles when shaken.

9. Remove from oven and cool to room temperature.

10. Refrigerate for at least three hours until well chilled.

Some of you might like to serve it with a whipped cream topping or a meringue topping.  I use whipping cream, whipped to a frosting like consistency, topped with a touch of lime zest.  If the pie seems to be sticking to the pan when serving, try dipping the pan into a bowl of warm water to loosen it.
You can also cut the work down by using a pre-made graham cracker crust but I included the homemade crust for you purists.

edited to clarify lime usage.

I don't doubt this for a minute.  Ive believed refs have been intentionally affecting games outcomes since the Jordan era.  I don't doubt for a minute that the Spurs were doomed this year, especially when the Celtics got past the Pistons.  I love the rationalization that they didn't call the foul on the three pointer because they don't want to affect the games outcome.  What BS, by not calling the obvious foul, they completely affected the outcome of the game.  The NBA (Stern) wanted a Celtics-Lakers finals and I believe there was a mandate to make sure it happened.  They have built the hype up for the series and knew that they would reap untold millions more from this series than any other.  In a world were people are killed for their basketball shoes, I find it easy to believe that the NBA would "alter" games for millions.  I actually find it hard to believe otherwise.  I'm sure Donahey will be labeled as a vengeance seeker and NBA will pile as much dirt on him as they can.  Still, if they can find the smallest amount of evidence or get anyone to cooborate his claims, the NBA will become the new WWE.
Oh and the ESPN comment that a Lakers-Celtics series is generationally invalid,  thats bull.  ESPN has hyped and spoon fed us this rivalry all season.  Kids all over wear retro Celtics and Lakers jerseys. Today you have two of the games biggest (most hyped) stars, Rapeboy Kobe and Garnett.  The only difference is that in the Magic/Bird era, players actually decided the games.  Watch some of the old basketball games sometime and then tell me todays game is more physical.  Flagrant foul?  Hah!  Pick your pansy ass up off the floor and play, ya sissy!

Dude, that's pathetic.  Do you really think the Spurs lost this year because of the officiating?  Did the officiating really cause Ginobli to disapear?  Why are mistakes on the last call of the game considered so much more significant than mistakes made before half time (Duncan's blatant travel in the lane) or second-to-last play of the game (failing to reset the clock when Fisher's shot came off the rim, which made the Spurs last possession possible)?  Both teams were beating the crap out of each other all game.  Fisher fouled Barry, but a lot of those types of fouls weren't called during the course of the game.

Also, I think Donaghy's specific claim about Game 6 is utter bullshit (completely apart from how good or bad one thinks the officiating was in Game 6).  I don't believe for a second that Bob Delaney, Dick Bavetta or Ted Bernhardt actually said to him that they put a fix in on a game.  Stop for a second and ponder how shockingly, utterly stupid that claim is.  If Dick Bavetta and Bob Delaney were sitting down for coffee and decide to rig Game 6 (apparently for the good of the league, according to Donaghy), do they really call up Donaghy to brag about it?  Do they really, blatantly say they're going make sure the series goes 7?  If one casually brags about that conduct, then one must assume every single series is fixed, since clearly such conduct would be de rigueur for the playoffs and it would be no big deal to brag about comitting a felony.  If you think the fraternaty of basketball refs are actually that crooked, I suggest you stop watching basketball.  I'd never watch the games if I thought they were rigged.  What would be the point?

Well, I wont start with calling you pathetic, an argument can proceed with either venom or class.  Even if I disagree with someone, I choose to respect a persons opinion because thats what it is, an opinion.  Now to answer some of you questions. First off while I dont believe the officiating was the sole reason for the Spurs losing, I certainly believe that it was a contributing factor.  I believe as well that Stern is not above suggesting that the games be reffed in a certain way and I certainly believe that Stern wanted more than anything the Lakers/Celtics matchup.  With teams at this level all it takes is a few "strange" calls or non-calls to change the game.  You ask why calls at the end of a game are more significant that calls early on?  Quite simply because at the end of a game it can completely change the outcome of a game.  If its early, then theres plenty of time to overcome it, late there is no time.  Now regarding Donahey's remarks regarding what was obviously the Lakers/Kings series,  he certainly picked one of the most infamous series altering ref screw ups to point out.  Obviously his remarks are questionable, due to his credibility but his point is valid and he isnt the 1st person to question the state of the NBA's referrees legitimacy.    It isnt suprising that the incidents discussed here both involve the Lakers.  LA is a huge money market for the NBA and the league prospers when the Lakers run late in the post season.  I am sure financially, the league stands to make tens of millions more having a Lakers/Celtics series than a Spurs/Celtics series and big money is one helluva motive for Stern to act on.  Oh and btw,  I quit watching NBA game for the very reasons I stated.  I have friends who are really in to it so I keep up on it with sportscenter but unless Im in a bar with friends Im not watching the NBA.  Now, regarding the whole "what would be the point of watching a rigged game" thing...see wrestling.

ps:  This is a shot in the dark but Im guessing youre a Lakers fan, eh?

I for one dont think he should be giving major props to the Red Wings.  Still instead of making comments about how theyve out played the Wings and how close the play has been, maybe he should figure out why they are behind 3-1.  Perhaps if they actually scored more than 1 goal in the 3 loses he would have a case.  The offense of the Pens has been shut down for one of two reasons.  Superior defensive play by the Wings or complete offensive mediocrity by the Pens.  Which is it Cindy err...Sydney?

As hard as it was for The Wings to handle the change of the guard after relying on older players like Shannie, Stevie Y, Hull and such it looks like theyve finally made the switch.  For the past 3 or 4 years they would go into the playoffs basically with little left in the tank.  Great in the regular season but fodder early in the playoffs.  The new kids have come of age and the Red Wings are back to skating with authority in the playoffs.  Yesterdays win in game 4 was an excellent example of just how good this team is.  Killing a 3rd period 5-3 on hostile ice vs a team that hasnt lost a home game in months was a helluva statement.  Crosby can whip out all the cliches he wants about close games and how theyve really out played the Wings and the series is closer than the 3-1 difference shows but the truth is that the Wings have dominated this series.  Game 5 at the Joe with the chance to raise the cup staring them in the faces....  There is no way this doesnt end in 5.

BTW  Meal and MHS  I am happy, and extremely envious of you that you get to attend this game.  I have a feeling its going to be one fantastic experience.  To be part of that crowd if they close it out, well thats as close to Hockey Heaven as a fan can possibly get!   Any spare tickets can be forwarded to Rshetts, care of this forum   icon_wink

The definition is not black and white though.  The key is was Ozzie trying to DRAW a penalty or was he trying to make sure the refs were aware the interference occurred.

That's absurd. If a player gets knocked to the ice, it better be because the OTHER player did something to put them there, and NOT some little show for the refs so you can get a penalty called.

Well, I didnt figure my explanation was absurd but whatever.  What I was trying to point out is that "diving" is a matter of intent.  Did the player dive with the intent of drawing a call that wasnt there or was the fall, post interference , oscar worthy?  This is the gray area left up to the ref.  Most sports have calls that have gray areas in them, you can either learn to deal with that fact or be one pissed off fan every time a call doesnt go your way.  If you saw the Lakers- Spurs game last nite you would have seen an excellent example of a gray area call.  I guarantee you if the roles had been reversed and Kobe was the one taking the shot, he would have got the call.

I have noticed the recent trend of "entertainment" computers and movie specific external hard drives as of late.  While 5 years may be a bit off, the conversion to non physical media is on.  MP3 players have torn into the CD market, its only a matter of time before the same thing happens to video media.

The definition is not black and white though.  The key is was Ozzie trying to DRAW a penalty or was he trying to make sure the refs were aware the interference occurred.  Granted this is a judgement call and thus open to debate and colored by bias but every single goalie in the league does the exact same thing and many are far worse than Ozzie at it.  Since fan bias comes into play here you will have your view and I will have mine but in the end the only opinion that truly matters is that of the ref who makes the call, right or wrong.
2381  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: NHL Playoff Talk on: May 27, 2008, 03:32:01 AM
Yep the Wings are looking unbeatable right now.  Back to back shut outs for Ozzie!  I am happy for the guy.  If the Wings win this he should be series  MVP.  I heard about the Pens taking cheap shots in prior series and hoped it was just hard hockey but what I saw tonite was just plain dirty.  I was hoping for a good long tough series but now I hope the Wings spank them hard!   Games 3 will be life or death for the Pens, if the Wings take that one this series is over.  I cant possibly believe any team can take the Wings 4 in a row.
2382  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: What should I know about buying a HDTV? on: May 25, 2008, 08:57:03 PM
The technology for rear projection has come a very long way.  Viewing angle is not a serious issue any longer either.  Most newer sets are quite clear from any but the most extreme angles.   The main difference between DLP and Plasma/LCD is the depth of the unit.  Bottom line is if you dont plan on hanging it on a wall DLP is a very good alternative and will get you the largest screen for the buck.   Also to the person who said that the size upgrade will shock you if your used to a 19" TV.  That is true until you experience the amazing shrinking screen effect.  You will find after awhile that a 40" doesnt seem all that big.  Then comes the larger screen envy and buyers remorse.  With the prices the way they are you can find as large a screen as you want for a reasonable price.  Its aslo important to avoid going too small, screensize envy is an ugly thing!
2383  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: NHL Playoff Talk on: May 25, 2008, 08:36:34 PM
The Wings played great and were very focused.  They also sent a message to the Pens.  That being we can shut down your vaunted offense.
Still its just one game and the loss is of minimal importance to the Pens.  Even if this series goes to Pittsburgh with the Wings up 2-0  not much will have been established.  The series hinges on road wins and the first team to get one will be in the drivers seat.  Obviously if no one gets a road win the cup goes to Detroit but that would make it a dream 7 game series for the NHL.

Still, it was a entertaining romp in spite of some of the "out there" plot points.  Of course Im willing to suspend believe and understand that this is based on the 1930's style pulp fiction such as Doc Savage and stuff like that.  I always suspend belief prior to walking into the theatre on these.  Campy?  Yes.  Unbelieveable escapes? Yes.  Fun?  Yes!  My advice is to watch it for the fun of it and try not to mentally pick it apart as you watch it.  If you can do that you will probably enjoy the ride, if you cant, you probably wont.
2385  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: What should I know about buying a HDTV? on: May 24, 2008, 01:45:38 PM
Depending on your situation and what you need the tv for one alternative is an HD home theatre projector.  There are a number of excellent models at the $1000 price point and they are awesome.  For that price they are mostly 720 P units  ( the 1080 P units are considerably more ) but can scale the higher resolutions without a hitch.  And they are very impressive visually.  Use a high def signal and it is quite literally like having a theatre in your home.
I own an older Infocus model that I plan on upgrading soon, and every friend I have who owns a high end Plasma or LCD set has been blown away by my set up ( and experienced a measure of buyers remorse )  They obvious restrictions to having a projector are generally room size and light control.  If you're at all interested in home theatre projection check out the  avs forums (linked in EnigineNo9's post above) They have fantastic info on almost any model you could want.

I found Bubba Hotep to be an excellent flick and highly recommend it with the disclaimer that is not for everyone.  It has an awesome peformance by Ozzie Davis as JFK tho and Bruce is great as Elvis.
Another sci-fi genre movie that deserves mention is Dark City.  Im sure this one has been seen by many of you but if you havent its worth watching.
Since you mentioned Snatch, I just got to throw out some props to Brad Pitt.  He may have many roles as male fluff but he has also had some awesome performances in some very offbeat movies, especially Snatch and 12 Monkeys.

The Wings could have just as easily run up the score in the last game vs Dallas but called off the dogs in the 2nd period unlike Pitt.  If youre going to base your prediction on that performance thats cool but dont be suprised when you find yourself thinking about how close the Pens came while Detroit hoists the cup once again.

You are misguided if you are blaming the Detroit sports market for that.  That was because both franchises were losing games at a historic pace.  Both the Pistons and the Red Wings have enjoyed extremely high attendance levels and not coincidently are in still in contention for their respective league championships.  Bottom line:  winning puts butts in the seats, even in Detroit.  (the Tigers are a perfect example of that)

All that your trend implies to me, Meal is that teams that are winning tend to win the finals.  There is a 1 game difference between Pitt and Detroit.  I'm not willing to bury a Wings team that is both hot and winning over this trend of yours.  In fact I feel the Wings will once again be the exception to the rule and provide Finals symmetry by winning it all giving us the perfect bookend set to your obviously misguided trend analysis.   icon_wink

The only thing you may have done wrong is get your insurance company involved before you cleared up Jiffy Lubes liability in this.  It may not be an issue but it gives Geico wriggle room if Jiffy refuses to pay for it.  I had this happen to a friend thru an Uncle Eds oil shop and between the insurance company and Uncle Ed's it took 6 months to clear up the liability issues as both parties claimed the other was liable for the claim.  In the end the insurance company did pay and then sued Uncle Eds to recover the costs.  Documentation was essential in the matter so definately document everything you can.

Dallas came out with thier best effort last nite and lost 5-2.  To be honest, the way the Wings are playing since they put Ozzie in goal, I dont see anyone beating them in 7 games.  Hopefully they will get to and win the Finals and people can give Ozzie the props he very much deserves.  The guy is a top ten all time goalie and for some reason he gets treated like a back-up by some fans (including Wings fans)  He has always been a class guy and gives his all on the ice every nite  ( unlike Hasek )  Anyway I hope he leads them to the cup and gets a little respect for it, its long overdue!
