2041  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: [WW] The GTVille Horror V: Lycanthropic Boogaloo - Wednesday Morning on: September 10, 2010, 09:19:38 PM
crikeys  first Newcastle, now CeeKay?  I agree that the only smart play in self voting is if youre the berzerker.  If youre a villager, then youre basically throwing the game.  Since I think CeeKay has more class than that, I figure he has now outed himself as a wolf and probably the 'zerker and definitely needs to go.  It hurts us, of course, to lose another innocent but not near as much as it would if we dont bag a wolf at all, which brings me to this...  the money play.  If we really think CeeKay is the Bezerker, the smart play is to ask the hunter to shoot him now and then go for a lynch on our 2nd best choice, which appears to be Envy24.  If the hunter chooses to do so and reveal, then he can also reveal his 1st protection, info that would help us cement a voting block, further protecting us from the wolves.  Also to consider, if the seer chooses to come out and reveal his information it would accomplish two things,  give us more solid info to form our voting block and give the wolves multiple targets to worry about tonite, making it more difficult to get a clean kill.  Im still fairly new at WW so feel free to correct any of the above info you may feel is an incorrect strategy.    Imagine the howling, though if we do pull off shooting and then lynching a wolf!  What a wonderfully mournful sound that would be.

hey guys,  starting my work day,  so I'll be lurking, more than posting until this afternoon.  I've been suspicious of CeeKay from the first day and nothing he has said has changed my mind.  Unless someone can clear him then I recommend we help him channel his inner child and give him one last ride on a rope swing.  Either way, it's time for people to speak up. We basically have  a day and a half to nab a wolf or we are kibble and bits.  Lets pool our info and nail us a wolf today!

Well we sure seem to be stringin em up in record time here!  I had work going while the lynch train went a chuggin along.  I got the opportunity to throw a comment out during a break but was unable to post while the Newcastle Express whent flying thru the station. Reading up on the posts, Im not sure that anything would have kept Newcastle from being lynched as it seemed that its what he wanted from the beginning.  I am disappointed that he chose that route, because it hindered our chance to take out a wolf and no matter how you want to paint it, throwing that chance away is a dis-service to the remaining villagers, regardless of wether you were not a  "special" .    With 3 wolves out there we had a tough ratio to begin with, throwing yourself under the bus only worsens that ratio.  Oh well, it is what it is.

well I was hoping Soul wasn't being spiteful when he said he was a wolf.  We are in a tough one villagers.  The set up of 3 wolves put us at a disadvantage from the start.  Now unless the hunter has fantastic luck or foresight, we are going to be down 2 villagers by the time tomorrow breaks.  If we dont nail a wolf tomorrow then we will be at a serious disadvantage.  We need people to look carefully at what has transpired conversationally and come up with a good option or we wont survive   Oh and let us hope that SC wasnt a special because if he was then we are pretty much screwed.
Things went pretty fast and furious today and its hard to put out a solid threat matrix but my current top two are Envy and Ceekay.  Their little back and forth show they have going smells set up to me.  Kind of like two wolves fighting amongst themselves so neither of them will be suspected.  Nice diversion guys but you're not fooling me.  If I don't survive the night, look at these two seriously.

whew, glad to be done with work.   Believe me there have been many times my supervisor has been 1 step away from a lynch mob.  Being unemployed in Michigan really sucks but being employed in Michigan can almost be worse.  Management in many companies know work is scarce so they operate on the whole master-slave mentality.  They figure they own you because, hell where else are you going to find a job?

anyway on with the show...  first off  withdraw moliere  Our previous games hero gets a pass today.    Envy24 has been all over the place, calling for quick lynchings and generally pushing the pace.  Seems very Lycan to me.  Then when accused he quickly plays the n00b card.  Hmmm   Ill have to toss a vote his way Im thinking, so Envy24  what neck size are you?  Oh  nevermind, the noose is adjustable.

there is an awful lots of lurking going on...lots of people viewing but not posting.
I'm at work myself.  Since we are restricted from using cells here, I'm am reduced to lurking.  Even that has it's risks, as my manager caught me sending a text last week and threatened to shove that phone up my ass if he caught me using it again.  Now this act would create two issues for me. 1) I would seriously wish I'd changed that " fart" ring tone I set for a friend. And 2) I would definitely need to redefine the term "booty call.     Anyways I digress.  I do want to hear from SC, before I jump on the Soul Train and considering his very lycanish behavior I believe we should reconsider and lynch Envy24....  Mull it over and I'll make my change official after work.  Oh and yes, I'm hiding in the mens restroom in order to send this message, seemed like a better idea than risking the whole cell phone colonic thing icon_wink
2054  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Tell me of kerosene heaters on: September 08, 2010, 01:14:06 PM
if you're looking into alternate heat sources, depending on you budget you should look into wood burning fireplace inserts.  You can get them with fans that force the heat into the house, and wood is very inexpensive.  Plus right now you can get a serious fed tax credit for one of these, really cuttting the cost.  You can get a nice one for about 2k if you look around.  The tax credit is 30% up to 1500 bucks.  I'm getting one this fall myself.

I have done this as well.  No cable for me.  I get everything I need tv wise on the intrawebs.  Most of the networks have HD sreams of almost everything they show.  I use an Over the air antennae for the local channels and since Im  in the metro Detroit area I can get all the networks in HD, plus a bunch of independents and pbs stations.  You can also get anything from USA, TNT, SyFy etc either on their sites or hulu.  With the exception of some sports and ESPN, I really dont miss cable at all.  I got tired of paying 50-60 a month to subsidize a gazillion channels I neither watched nor wanted.  No regrets here.

2064  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: [TV] Sandman the series? on: September 05, 2010, 12:20:52 PM
Kripke has done a great job with Supernatural.  If they are going with someone established in TV, then I think that he's an excellent choice. Of course any film conversion from a a storyline like this is going to have its pitfalls.  Hopefully they will get Gaiman on board as a consultant so he can help keep the story's continuity together.
2065  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: Palm's new "Pre" phone/Web OS at CES (Palm's last stand?) on: September 04, 2010, 02:06:31 PM
I have a Pre, had it for about 6 months.  I got a real nice contract with sprint unlimited data with 450 anytime minutes.  The real kicker is the any mobile anytime part.  Pretty much everyone I talk to has a cellphone now.  Throw in that the nite and weekend "free" minutes start at 7pm and not 9pm and Ive found that I never use more than 1/2 of my anytime minutes.  Some months Ive used less than 100 of them. The contract has an employee discount of 25%  ( sprint has deals with tons of major corps to provide discounts to their employees ) so Im paying $55 a month for this.  The coverage is great,  I rarely have a dropped call.  The phone itself is a nice piece of equipment, no complaints at all with it.  The magnetic charger is sweet.     Its too bad that HP is not going to run with the Pre in any kind of meaningful way, because I think its an excellent option as far as cells go.  Of course, because of HP's lukewarm support of the Pre, Ill probably be looking at a different phone, maybe a droid, when my annual phone upgrade comes around.   I do hope someone else adopts that charger because its a very cool feature.

First of all consider the source.  Perez Hilton for gawds sake.  There are so many internet sites out there that make this shit up just to drive normal people bat shit crazy.  Of course if this rumor is even remotely true, then Hollywood needs to be nuked from orbit now!

Actually, Perez Hilton actually broke that Michael Jackson had died when everyone else was still saying he was just taken to the hospital.

Yeah and a broken clock is right twice a day.  If you want to believe that Perez Hilton is a credible source by all means do so.  I figure Perez uses the "if you throw enough shit at the wall some of its gonna stick" philosophy.  You just make sure when you're right everyone know it.  Psychics have been doing that for centuries.

I never said that Perez is a reliable source, but to outright dismiss it because it comes from a source that has posted credible information in the past is naive.

Look at The National Enquirer.  They were just up for a Pulitzer Prize because they broke the Al Gore infidelity scandal...

and I never dismissed the rumor outright, all I said was to consider the source.  I also mentioned that if the rumor is true .... yada, yada, yada.  so yeah  not dismissed outright but taken with a serious helping of scepticism.  Oh and the National Enquirer thing,  they actually got something right in their several decades of "journalism"  so what now Im supposed to believe that Elvis is alive and living on Mars?!  Im thinking theyve been sued for libel far more times than theyve recieved any kind of pulitzer attention.
2070  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Massively Single Player MMO - an idea on: August 30, 2010, 09:20:49 PM
Actually, I think that I would like to see MMO's keep grouping but make the groups smaller.  Right now, in WoW you need 25 people to access the best gear in ICC.  I would like it if they changed raid limits to 5 or even 3 man groups.  A lot of people in WoW are in limbo now because they cant find a solid raid group of 25 people to run instances.  Let people get their moneys worth and go with smaller groups.  BTW this isnt sour grapes, Im in a guild running 25 ICC content.  Still theres a group of guys I know that have run together for years and we always have fun when we do.  Its a completely different experience when you ramp it up to 25.  It loses the fun factor and becomes almost work like.  Unfortunately, 25 man is your only option if you want top gear.
2071  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Xbox Live price goes up on: August 30, 2010, 09:05:58 PM
oh well 10 bucks is ten bucks   not a huge deal, still Ill be grabbing a few cards in the near future.  I would love it though, if there was some bizarre mass unity amongst live users and they unilaterally decided to all let their subscriptions lapse to silver in protest of the price hike.  It would be fun to watch Microsofts virtual balls shrivel as each subscription lapsed and their dollar intake rapidly dwindled.  Can you hear me, Major Tom?

2074  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: [PC/360] The Secret World MMOG Announced: I'm Pumped on: August 28, 2010, 06:10:19 PM
This looks real interesting but Im really curious how the no levels/ no classes thing is going to play out.  The no classes I can understand.  In a way you "class" type will be defined by the powers you choose to enable.  I am more concerned about the no levels thing.  Character growth is the primary thing that drives people to play mmos.  Thats why end game in mmos even as popular as wow bog down.  Your ability to grow your character slows to a crawl.  If powers are the primary growth factor for your character then I can see a serious issue.  No matter how many powers are available, theres going to end up being a limited amount of groups or sets of powers that will become the prefered spec.  Other powers will become basically fluff and only useful to completeists.  Once you get your power set defined,  what drives you to play on?
Now if its gear that grows your character, then you basically have the same situation as WoW's end game.  You are driven by a gear grind, which ends up being frustrating, because everyones going to want the same gear and like in WoW you will have to grind until youre lucky enough to get it.
I am hoping they have answers to this because I really like the concept and setting for this game.  Maybe it will be story driven and the events in game will be what brings you back but if they are just hiding the levels in a gear and power grind then I am concerned at how long this game will survive past release.  Please Funcom, this thing has the potential to be awesome,  dont screw it up.
