2001  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: [TV] The Event on: September 21, 2010, 09:58:47 AM
It was pretty good.  Im sure we wont know what "the event" is for quite some time.  Seeing some comparisons to Fast Forward, Ill just point out that its not on ABC  (Already Been Cancelled).  Plus so far the characters are much more engaging than FF's were.  I hated the lead in FF and how his relationship was basically a self fulfilling prophecy.  Plus the 3 month hiatus was completely stupid for a show that relied on a continuous plot line.  I gave uo on Fast Forward after the hiatus, mainly becasue by the time it came back it was already pretty much cancelled.  Hopefully NBC is no where near as stupid.  Genre shows are notoriously short lived on network TV but Im willing to give it a shot and I hope if they end the show prematurely that they have the decency to give it some closure.

The Arizona State Fair is coming up this October for our annual deep-fried-on-a-stick gluttony, and this year they've added some new offerings.  One seems to stand out, though:

We've got new foods from sinfully delicious to extraordinarily extreme. Which one will you try first?

Chef John

    * Funnel Fries - Fries out of funnel cake batter
    * Mealworm caramel apples
    * Deep fried peanut butter and jelly sandwiches
    * Scorpions and Crickets dipped in Chocolate

Southwest Food & Beverage

    * Apple dumplings
    * Orange dreamsicle floats
    * Donut Hamburgers
    * Salami suckers (Salami dipped in batter and deep fried on a stick)

J&L Concessions

    * Deep fried PB&J sandwiches

Fun Zone Food

    * Tornados on a stick

Jungle George Amusements

I think I just threw up in my mouth a little.

Go to Texas,  Im sure they can find a way to deep fry that for you!

2011  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / The influence of WoW on new MMOs on: September 16, 2010, 11:14:12 PM
It seems that Wow became so financially successful that everybody and their brother is putting out new mmos now.  Unfortunately,  the end result is a lot of crap is getting churned out in hopes that they get lucky and grab a decent subscriber base.  In recent times many have risen but few if any have shown any real staying power.  Games like APB and STO have failed miserably and even Squeenix with all their JRPG pedigree behind them is getting hammered even before FF online can get released.  Major players like Richard Garriott have failed and major brand names like Star Trek and Conan and to some extent Lord of The Rings have not lived up to thier potential.  So is WoW such a monster that no one has a shot at becomeing a strong contender or can another major MMO find success in the market?    I have hopes for The Old Republic but its obvious that a brand name, even one as strong as Star Wars isnt enough,  you have to bring a strong game with you.  What do you think?  Is there someone up and coming who can really make it happen or are we stuck with WoW and a bunch of wannabes?

what is the triggercut principle?    When Envy revealed his priesthood I went to the next person on my threat matrix.  That happened to be Isgrimnur. With no real information to work with, that was the best I could do.  Im real confused though if Ravenvii had a wolf in hand why he didnt let us know.  He was already pretty much revealed as the seer at that point, why hold that info back?   Hell, Im confused as to a lot of what happened this game.

just re read the roles and first time through missed that there were 2 hunters, a WW hunter and a Vamp hunter.   retard    That seems more balanced now.  Looks like an interesting game.  Should be a lot of fun.

so if the vamp turns the 2 goths and has a 3 person faction and the werewolves infect successfully for their 3 wolf faction, does the game continue between them if they deplete the larder ( ie all the villagers are dead or converted ) or does the game end with an evil triumphs thing?

I was disappointed this game and I don’t think the “suicidal” villagers lost it, but rather there were some serious bloodthirsty villagers here. Those first three lynches went by so fast, there was no time to pause and actually think things through. An environment like that will always favor the wolves. Thinking things through and actually taking it a bit slower creates  a more analytical type game rather than a “shoot from the hip” mentality and lets get this over ASAP which dominated the first few lynches this game. So it’s not surprising to me the village lost.
Seriously I went down in a matter of 4 hours, soulchilde also as well. There was no time to really stop and think. Those two first lynches really cost the game more than any “suicidal” villagers.

Also, I was simply having fun changing the avatars around and really was amazed that ceekay thought I would really try to frame someone like that because it’s a pretty stupid way of framing someone. And actually I was not trying to get lynched straight up. I accepted it and don’t mind it to a degree.

I did want to die early in the game since I thought I had meta knowledge early in the game. Rickfc made a post saying “Jaydee said I am an innocent villager” or words to that effect. That was pretty much verbatim of what Jaydee sent out. I saw Ceekay follow up on that. I quickly pieced together that those two were innocents and I didn’t feel right playing with such knowledge. Over at OO it’s a pretty big no-no to reveal contents of PM’s, since it makes it seem you are playing with out of game knowledge.

And once again the changing of avatars was really following ceekay’s lead, because as I said it was fun.
Color me disappointed really more than anything else.

   As far as Soulchildes lynch, yes it was probably too quick but that didnt really bother me because theres really not much to go on for the 1st lynch and at least we didnt nab a special.
   You complain about the speed on your lynch, but you pushed that as much as anyone and its hard not to call it suicidal when you yourself claim that you wanted to be lynched.
 CeeKays lynch was also a quick one.  It seems that many of the people who wanted to slow the pace down had work issues and difficulty posting during the day, which is when both fast lynches went down.  I considered CeeKays lynch as suicidal because he self voted when he thought he was at n-1,  thats kind of suicidal dont you think?  Neither of your deaths benefitted the villagers and combined with the wolves getting the hunter so quick, pretty much sealed our fate. Anyways,  not trying to pick a fight here,  I just wanted t explain my views.  Hopefully you can understand why, although I never said it was the cause of our losing,  I felt the self voting deaths definitely diminished our chances of winning.  Regardless, the real killer was the wolves nailing the hunter.  The ratio of wolves to villagers was a bit unfavorable at the start,  losing the hunter really tipped the balance in thier favor.
2019  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: [WW] GTville VI: Bloodlust (Game sign-ups and discussion) on: September 15, 2010, 08:06:01 PM
Im in.    Just a few observations.  With 2 factions feasting on the villagers it seems like your going to need a whole lot of players.  From what Ive read the ratio of villagers to baddies runs best with a ratio of 1 ww per 4 villagers   to 1 per 5   with all of the baddies you list here youll need a crap ton of villagers to balance plus with 2 bad factions, youve increased the evil specials without any real increase for the villagers.  It seems to be a bad time to be a villager.  The other thing is  maybe Im seeing this wrong,  but the WW faction seems extremely overpowered.  The infection in particular is almost a "win" button.  Flipping the seer would be hard to overcome.     Not trying to criticize,  just curious as to how you see this playing out
2020  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: [WW] The GTVille Horror V: Lycanthropic Boogaloo - GAME OVER on: September 15, 2010, 03:41:35 PM
Bullet if you self blocked the 1st night then that's where we pretty much lost.  I'm not saying you made a mistake, in fact self blocking is common for a 1st nite, after all who else are you going to trust?  The wolves got very lucky and hit you the 1st nite.  You were a guaranteed Kill nite 2, and most likely the hunter.  You were not going to make it past nite 2.   The only thing you could have done differently is come out on day 2 and try to shoot a wolf.  Being that early in the game, it would have taken some luck on the villagers part.  Your death sandwiched between 2 suicides and we were toast.
 nicely played, wolves.  You whomped us good.  Of course we suffered some self inflicted wounds as well, but you took great advantage of that and never really gave us a shot at a comeback.  Good game........   And damn you all to hell! icon_wink

With the priest reveal,  I have revisited the thread and reviewed my threat matrix.  I see no reason to change my mind on my #2 pick.  I am going to place my lynch vote on Isgrimnur  with the limited info we have its time to take our best shot and hope we get a little luck for a change because ever since our hunter block the wolves have owned us.

If weve lost all of the "specials"  then it seems likely one of them suicided.  if thats the case then we are totally in the random zone.
 1st off Soul claimed to be a non special prior to his day one lynching.  Im inclined to believe that.   (Isgrimnur pulled the trigger on that vote btw)    So Im figuring that day one we lost a basic villager and with the hunter save that nite, we were looking ok.
 Heres where things take a turn towards the Twilight Zone  ( for you younglings, thats a fantastic horror/sci-fi anthology show and has nothing to do with sparkly vampires )
 We have the first of out suicides today.  Newcastle comes out completely wolfish and then basically forces his own lynch.  He stated after the vote was closed that he was not a special and  "in all seriousness i was trying to get lynched"  He promised he would explain post game.  So unless his reasoning was to completely screw the villagers, he shouldnt be a special.
 If all of this is true,  then at this point all specials still live.  ( just for completeness Moliere flipped the switch on NC's self destruction bid )
 At this point the wolves take out Bulletpig.  Heres where we may have lost our first special.  If he was either the hunter or the seer, then with Ravenvii death we have probably lost both.  Without info from the priest we wont know until the end of the game.
 The following day brings CeeKays turn towrds the bizarre as he basically pours gasoline over his head while lighting a match.  At that time we called out for more info and none was forth coming.  Im not sure why Ravenvii didnt speak out if he was the seer, his info would have been of help, thats why Im thinking he was the Hunter and Bulletpig was the seer.  Anyways, Ravenvii was wolf kibble and here we are.

By my figuring, the only special left would be the priest.  Since its probable we lost both the hunter and the seer, his info is pretty much moot except it would confirm a few things.  If what I have stated here is the way things have gone then the remaining villagers have to really look at the previous posts because thats all we have to go on.

My top 3 right now are Envy24,  for his very bloodthirsty attitude.  It could also be n00bish enthusiasm but I think not.  That and he has denied being a wolf every time its come up.  I think a villager would eventually just say "whatever" after the 10th time or so.
 Isgrimnur,  he has been basically lurking most of the time and his defense for that is ill talk when I have something important to add.  This from the guy who promoted lynching the quiet ones because they are not helping.  I kinda feel like hes been laughing at us as we fail in the dark while picking bits of Ravenvii from between his teeth.
  my 3rd choice is Jaydee,  I mean really who but a wolf disappears for 3 days!  Oh wait hes running this thing,  sorry JayDee.    Seriously,  my 3rd is Cragmyre,  for the reasons stated by Moliere, his actrions seem to be that of a wolf or a special.  As Im fairly sure we have only 1 special left, and a basically impotent one at that, and 3 wolves,  odds are hes a wolf.

Thats my opinions for what they are worth... at this point Ill cast my vote for lynching Envy24  If anyone one feels strongly about another choice,  nows the time to speak up.
2026  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: [WW] The GTVille Horror V: Lycanthropic Boogaloo - Thursday Morning on: September 14, 2010, 02:39:24 AM
Well if we can try to hold off hanging anyone before tomorrow afternoon that would be good as it seems some of us work and have issues posting.  Also I believe we lost a special last nite,  It remains to be seen if he was the seer or the hunter.  I really hope we get more info on this as I am still just guessing at this point.  We are at 7 with 3 wolves now any info would go a long way towards helping our odds.    Either way, be very careful about voting too fast, because with 3 votes the wolves can easily push someone into the noose.  Try to state your opinions without bolding them until we can make an informed decision.  Its going to be tough to win this thing but we are not done yet.  Let snatch victory from the jaws of defeat and have some fillet o' wolf for dinner tomorrow!

and that explains why a wolf would be pushing a winning strategy for the villagers how?   The best play for the wolves is to continue letting us hang ourselves, since we seem to excell at it.  Theohall is way down on my list but if hes a wolf its moot anyway because hes only 1 of 3 wolves.  Of course seeing as how we have had 2 villagers hang themselves to the detriment of village  ( assuming CK isnt a wolf )  maybe thats the new wolf strategy,  help the villagers as much as possible.   Theohall is right though,  we dont have anymore time.  We need to get it right tommorrow and to do that we need information.

Why does your government do that?  Doesn't it discourage people from buying things from overseas?

That's exactly why they do it. Local stores have to pay toll to import their wares, so if you could just buy them from, say, American stores and skip the toll, there'd be no reason for anyone to ever buy locally. It's a system that has to be there to protect ridiculous overtaxation.

Im definitely in agreement with Theohall on one point.  We need information or we are dead.  The villagers are on the cusp of losing and dying with your information unrevealed just makes it worse.  Since we have no information to the contrary, Im assuming the 3 specials are still out there.  Without your information we are operating blind.  That hasnt worked out all that well for us so far.  Granted the last 2 lynches were self pushed,  especially Newcastles, and Im still a bit baffled about that.  I do understand that you may not want to reveal yourselves at night and hopefully we dont lose your info to a wolf attack if you dont,  but when tomorrow dawns we are going to need to pull the stops out to have a chance of saving ourselves.  Lets hope we get a break tonite because tomorrow I plan on seeing a wolf swing and hopefully it will be our second kill.

I was at work and unable to slow things down myself.  When I got home I withdrew CK hoping to get some strategy in.  I didnt take time to completely sift through the vote counts and see where CK was I figured it was best to pull the vote if I could.  It appears that CK was pushed over, so be it.  If he is a villager and suicided, then he basically threw the game and makes the rest of this thing almost pointless, so I sure hope hes a wolf.

Yes,  his kills role will not be immediately revealed.  This is only problematic if the priest is dead as it would make sense to scan that kill tonite.  Also Im not sure if by role it was meant to include wolfishness as it would seem that death in any form would reveal the wolf's true nature,  other wise the hunter could possibly kill the last wolf but we would never know that we did and would continue to lynch each other until we reached a complete stalemate.  I guess we will need some clarification on that point.

Regarding the current situation,  I dont want to see Ceekay lynched until we can solidify our strategy and since the wolves could possibly push him over  I will Withdraw CeeKay  until we clear this up.  I still feel he is our best candidate,  I just want us on the same page here.  I will happily pull the lever on his furry neck myself once we do so.
