This guy was incredibly cool under pressure.  He jets out of the cockpit just as flames are about to engulf him.  I doubt he could have timed it any closer.... amazing vid
1882  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Neuromancer Movie gets a Director on: June 11, 2010, 12:37:44 AM
If you are a fan of the book, then there is no way the movie will live up to expectations.  Ive found it best, when a good book is adapted, to try to seperate the movie from the book and hopefully enjoy the movie on its own merits.  I tend to be greatly disappointed otherwise.
1883  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [E3 2010] - Official Gaming Trend Coverage Begins on: June 10, 2010, 08:11:51 PM
Ok guys we need some serious good intel on Star Wars - The Old Republic.  Nothing major, just a solid release date would do  icon_wink   but seriously,  this is one of my most anticipated games,  is it being covered at E-3?
1884  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Burn notice season 4 starts this week on: June 05, 2010, 06:48:10 PM
The episode felt like 10 pounds of crap shoved in a 5 pound bag.  They put so much into it what with the set up for the new season, reuniting the old crew and handling another good guy in bad trouble thing, that it seemed like they shorted everything they did.  Seemed like way too much to squeeze into 40 minutes of show.  Weird how by the time they showed Michael Ironsides in the opening credits his bit was already done.  He must have been charging by the minute or something.  Im sure they will get back on track but I for one was a bit disappointed in the season opener.

1886  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Final Fantasy Versus 13 coming to Xbox 360? on: May 18, 2010, 10:45:38 PM
this just shows who the real winner of the console wars is.....  the game producers.  There's a large enough fan base on both the PS3 and the XBOX 360 that is hard to financially rationalize any long term console exclusivity.  Im sure there are platform fanbois who will have a aneurysm over this but for most people this is a good thing.
1887  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Saddle up! The Red Dead Redemption impressions thread. on: May 18, 2010, 10:38:51 PM
My release day copy from Amazon has arrived so I was able to put in a hour just to see whats what.  First off the xbox version looks great, no complaints here.  Im playing on a 42" flat screen HDTV so no issues with text size either.  Ive knocked off a few quests that were basically tutorials for shooting and riding.  Ive found the horse easy to handle once you realize it takes a light touch and turning is more tapping in the direction you want and less steering.  Glad I got the game even though I wont really be able to play it until next week.  I leave on vacation with my gf tomorrow morning and Im thinking she'd be pissed if my carry on luggage was my x-box 360.  Anyways, enjoy the game everybody from what Ive seen its gonna be a blast!    Ill be back next week for some Red Dead fun.  And remember Ill be in MP for two things,  to kill and to screw.... and none of you are purty enough to screw.
1888  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: [TV]The Cape on: May 18, 2010, 07:53:14 PM
this does look pretty good.  Seems to have a bit more of a serious side to it.  It looks like tv has definitely jumped on the superhero band wagon.  ABC has a new superhero series coming in fall as well called No Ordinary Family and it stars Michael Chiklis and Julie Benz  ( from Dexter )
1889  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Chuck Season 3 discussion (spoilers!!!) on: May 18, 2010, 07:46:00 PM
I liked it but its obviously a set up for the final episodes, thus the pacing was a bit off.  Too bad they havent been up front with Elle, they could have avoided a whole lot of trouble thats for sure.  Nice suprise at the end though,  the rest of the season should be fun

Which begs the obvious question:  When the flags drops and 15 of us turn to shoot CK in the face (even his own posse) - how is a winner determined?

Seems pretty obvious to me...  we're all winners!!!!!!    well except maybe CK  paranoid

this company has cut your pay all read.  A 15% raise, if you accept it is probably all youll ever see for the next 5 years or so, with the new company you have room to grow, your current boss cant make any promises?  Yeah  take that to the bank.   Seriously,  it is time to move on.  as said before its a no-brainer

I use component cable inputs for my 360 and I find the difference is negligible.  I played FF 13 on both the PS3 and the 360 and didnt really notice a difference.    Im getting the 360 version and have no worries about the graphics, they will look great Im sure.  Ill be on as rshetts

I was suprised at the role they had Lloyd in.  It was a total waste of his talents.  He'd have been better playing one of the institutionalized spies, at least he would have had an opportunity to get a few laughs.  Oh and Morgan, come on man!  You dont just dump your hot looking ex like that, youre a spy now, you do her first and then dump her!

1901  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Riddick Returns on: May 12, 2010, 11:55:41 PM
I hope its a prequel because from the sounds of that synopsis it seems they threw the whole basis of Chronicles and the Necromongers ( including the Underverse ) right out the window.  Unless his own kind that betrays him are the Necromongers.    I was one of the few that actually liked Chronicles and thought that a follow up involving the Underverse and the rest of the Necromonger mythology would be interesting.  Instead it looks like your basic revenge porn sci-fi style.
1902  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Lost: The Final Season (spoilers not tagged) on: May 12, 2010, 10:18:38 PM
Typical Lost,  instead of actually giving us any answers of substance they just give us more questions.  I did not care for this episode and felt that it was a waste of an hour this close to the series finale.  Sure we now know the origions of Jacob and the man with no name  (apologies to Clint ) but thats all we know.  Nothing else was really explained.  Oh it did make Jacob look like a douche and confused us even more about his brother.
I guess all we can hope for is that this episode provides some background to help fill out the great reveal.......  naw,  theyll probably end the series leaving us more confused than we are now.

I finished it awhile ago but Im still occasionally plugging away at maxxing out my characters. There are some really nasty critters out there I have yet to smack down and I plan to advance enough  so I eventually can.  Im not palying it in major marathon sessions but Ill put in an hour here and an hour there.  Of course with Red Dead Redemption hitting soon, FF13 will be put on hold for a bit.

Timothy Zhan's Thrawn Trilogy: Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising, The Last Command.

If Lucas had used these books as a basis for his 2nd trilogy of Star Wars movies he would be revered instead of reviled today.   You could practically hear John Williams sound track while reading these books.  If you liked the origonal Star Wars trilogy, then you will probably love these books.
1907  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Transformers 3! 7-1-2011! on: May 06, 2010, 08:30:38 PM
I read somewhere that Transformers 2 was basically finished with out a set script.  It was done during the heart of the writers strike and it seems that Bay basically threw the movie together without a completed script due to budget constraints.  After seeing the movie  (as a rental )  I totally believe that to be true.
1908  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Lost: The Final Season (spoilers not tagged) on: May 05, 2010, 08:54:27 PM
Locke did all this misdirection because he still needs the plane to leave.  If he got them all to blow themselves up on the sub, then he would be free to take the plane and leave, but as long as a candidate is living he can not leave the island.  BTW my vote for the one who stays when this is all said and done is Sawyer.  He will make the big sacrifice , after all if he had trusted Jack, perhaps the others would have survived, so in part he is responsible for the recent culling.  Just my 2 cents worth.

1911  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: My head is in space, recommend some good sci-fi books on: May 04, 2010, 05:40:49 PM
The sequel to Enders Game,  Speaker for the Dead, is a very good book.  It is completely different in tone and concept to Enders Game though and unfortunately I think that puts alot of people off.  It is not a book based in military action, it is more of a murder mystery/new species thing.  If you dont go into it expecting the continuing adventure of young soldier Ender and read it for what it is you might actually enjoy it.
That top 100 list is interesting and Ive read most of whats on there.  Ill just throw out a few highlights you may like.  Harry Harrisons Stainless Steel Rat stories are great fun.  Its kind of a futuristic "It Takes A Thief"
Roger Zelanzy has been mentioned a few times and Lord of Light is a fantastic book.  Also while a bit more fantasy than hard sci-fi, The Amber Series is a blast to read.  Larry Nivens Ringworld is a must read as are his collaborations with Jerry Pournelle,  The Mote in Gods Eye and Luicifer's Hammer.   Damn  now I want to re-read about 75 books
1912  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: My head is in space, recommend some good sci-fi books on: May 04, 2010, 01:33:51 AM
whenever these threads pop up I always recommend A Fire Upon the Deep  by Vernor Vinge.  It won both the Hugo and Nebula awards and is a fantastic space opera.  Also since Asimov was mentioned Ill recommend his origonal Foundation Trilogy.  It expanded well beyond the 1st three books and ended up encompassing themes from many of this other works but the origonal 3 books are an excellent read by themselves.  One last suggestion, if you want to go for the classics and also see where the roots of much of modern sci-fi began, then read the Lensmen series by E.E. "Doc" Smith.

Great episode of Chuck tonite!  They are back to the more light hearted tone.  Of course the first 15 minutes consisted of repeated gratuitous shots of Ms Strahovski in lingerie, and thats always a plus.  I really like that they are going from Sarah being Chucks keeper to Sarah and Chuck as a team.  I think the rest of this season is gonna be fun.  I just hope that the whole safe bet to be renewed thing turns out to be true because this show is too much fun to cancel
1918  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Teen Angst, Japanese Style. The FFXIII Impressions Thread. on: April 25, 2010, 11:33:36 PM
First off,  I really enjoyed FF13.  Since I havent been a PS person, I havent played a Final Fantasy game in a very long time.  The quality of the graphics, music and combat system were top notch all the way.  I did miss the towns and villages and the open world feel of previous FF games but it wasnt nearly as big a deal as I was afraid it would be.  I found the combat system to be a blast.  I had a lot of fun trying out various parties and combinations and while most groups worked well, it seemed that the Lightning, Fang and Hope combo was overall the best.  Was this the best FF evar?  Nope but it was worthy of the FF name and a lot of fun to play.
Now to the final fight.  This has got to be the silliest thing ever.  You put a final boss in with a random instakill.  Ok, you do have items to help offset this but heres where it gets silly.  I tried 4 times to beat the jerk and my leader got insta killed all 4 times, usually when the boss was near death. And yes I had Seraph crowns equipped.  Very annoying!  So annoying in fact that I put the game away for 4 days.  I came back to it today with new resolve.  I decided to try to power him down on my 1st try today and unequipped my seraph crowns and went with extra power accessories.  Of course I never died, and I 4 starred him.  So to recap, I got insta killed 4 times while wearing anti death protection but I gank him with ease once I remove it.  The very concept makes my head hurt.  Anyways,  I didnt let that bit of weirdness ruin the game for me.  FF 13 was definitely one of the best games released this year even with its quirks.  I hope this isnt the last solo player final fantasy we see.

1920  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: I think I need a new dojo (semi-graphic picture warning) on: April 24, 2010, 08:17:50 PM
I have tp agree with Crux.  The sensai seems to have no real control here.  It also seems like he has no real plan or clear focus of his goals for the dojo.  Im sort of wondering if the whole "other students fear sparring you" thing is more a way of him trying to re-establish control over you than anything else.  If you are that good and havent injured anyone it would seem people who want to advance their skills would want to spar a superior opponent. That is how you learn.  Its obvious you have some soul searching to do on this matter.  Understand though, even if you choose to move on your actions to remove the bullying student has probably save others at the dojo from further injury.  That is not a bad thing.
