Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: What do you like in a movie site?

a movie site is a good idea, considering that the off topic forums seem to be about 75% movie topics. You could of course expand it to be a overall Movies/TV series site as there seems to be ample interest in tv series as well.
Regarding the content, youve covered the main needs, reviews, trailers and actors. The issue is likely going to be more about style than content. Are you going to go minimalist with your reviews or full blown with minor spoilerish stuff. Myself, I prefer minimalistic reviews that focus on general impressions and avoid any plot revelations. Basically a rating system with very general comments. Things like "Jack Reacher is a fun action popcorn flick thats great for what it wants to be" or "Quite surprisingly, Tom Cruise really nailed the essence of who Jack Reacher really is" ( disclaimer: the previous comments are just examples and have no foundation is reality as Ive not seen Reacher yet ) Keep things general and avoid being overly specific and youll avoid a lot of unwanted nerd rage while still providing a very useful service to your forumers. You could also provide kind of a spec list for the movie that at a glance provides information like running length, available formats IE: 3-D, IMAX, 48fps etc, the movies rating and your review rating. Since youre likely to avoid allowing comments on the review site, it might be nice to provide a link to the actual forum topic on the specific movie, if one exists and of course in turn provide a like to the review in the forum topic itself, much like you do with game topics. This is an excellent idea guys, I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

I thought I had posted a follow-up in this thread, but I guess I forgot.
We bought a Beautyrest Black Mattress from Sleep Country. I couldn't find anywhere online that had a lower price than they did with a 10% off coupon I had. They also had buy one get one free on some of their pillows. Great buying experience. No sales pressure for add-ons aside from suggesting a super-thin waterproof cover (which we got because one of our dogs occasionally tinkles in her sleep when she's lying on the bed). Free delivery next day. Mattress is awesome. Pillow is awesome. Two thumbs up.
Glad it worked out for you. Beauty Rest was my 2nd choice, behind the Sterns and Foster I purchased. Regarding the mattress cover, its likely they pushed that because most major mattress manufacturers require a cover or you could void your warranty.

I firmly believe in the separation of Church and State. And to vote against a candidate just because you don't believe in the same God (or interpretation of God) at that level is something I believe flies in the face of our founding father's beliefs.
I agree 100% regarding the separation of church and state. The founding fathers wanted to prevent religious mandates from driving politics as history has proven time and time again that it usually results in people dying. I do not believe it was the intentions of our founding fathers to separate religious beliefs from a persons vote. People have the right to vote based on their religious and moral points of view. Still, while religious beliefs, on an individual basis, will always affect that persons choices while voting, I do believe arbitrarily dismissing a candidate based solely on the candidates chosen religious beliefs is very short sighted and hopefully people consider far more than that in their voting choices.

This one is great: "Now, I’m not trying to tell you how to vote, you can vote, but vote, my goodness, and vote for candidates that stand for Biblical values.” Paraphrased: "I'm not trying to tell you how to vote, but I'm telling you how to vote. Capice?" Paraphrase: What everyone who has ever supported a candidate has ever said. Ummm not true. Most come right out and tell you that they want you to vote for their chosen candidate. This guy contradicts himself in the same sentence. As far as the term "biblical values" thats pretty much an oxymoron. These "values" are how ever the reader chooses to interpret the highly general statements in the bible, a document that has been constantly re-written, reinterpreted, translated and re-translated from several languages, altered, added to and subtracted from since it was first written. Whether or not you choose to believe it is the "written word of God", the fact of the matter is that like religion itself, it has become a tool in the hands of corrupt men. Thus in my opinion, while it has value, on an individual and personal basis, politicizing it destroys any validity it may have on a larger scale.

First off, racism is a sub set of prejudice. You can be fine with describing prejudice, when discussing racism because racism IS prejudice, its just racially focused. The main issue here is trying to see racism as cut and dry. Like most social, moral issues it isnt. Does a racist remark make someone a racist? Tough question. I think a little perspective necessary before you can liberally apply that label. Things like context are important. Whats more important in defining a person, his words or his actions? Is an emotional outburst reason to label someone a racist? Howard Cosell was fired ( some say he was voluntarily retired) from Monday Night Football for saying "look at that little monkey run" yet was also a staunch supporter of civil rights and openly supported Olympic sprinters John Carlos and Tommie Smith after they raised their fists in a "black power" salute during their 1968 medal ceremony. Was Cosell racist?

Was finally able to see the first episode of this.
I liked it a lot. Never seen the SH guy before though. Going to try to catch the rest now.
Cumberbatch's ( Sherlock ) career has really taken off so you'll be seeing more of him outside of the series. He plays the main villain in the new Star Trek and does the voice and motion capture for Smaug and the Necromancer in The Hobbit. I just hope his career doesnt get so big it effectively ends the series because Sherlock is the best thing airing on TV right now.

The one constant about racism is that those who suffer from it are (for the most part) unable to see it for themselves. They always push the bar ahead of them, and with every new racist opinion they create in their minds, the bar is pushed a little further, always keeping them in the safe zone of "I'm not racist, I'm just asking questions". It's one of the reasons it's so damn hard to get rid of.
+100 An ex friend once told me that there are blacks and there are n****rs, as a rationalization for a racist rant he went on. I asked him how he possibly could not understand that his very statement was racist. He was offended by that question.

I believe that MMO's are in trouble these days FTP or not. Theyve milked the basic concept and even games that try to be a bit different like GW2 turn out to be the same old thing with a new coat of paint. I enjoyed SWTOR and finished the class quest for the infiltrator but I have no real urge to return to the game. GW2 is suffering the same fate. Its already starting to get barren in the world. One of the nice innovations, the open world events are not doable in a lot of cases because theres just no one around to join in. I really think they need to find something new to draw people to MMOs or they will start to fade away. I dont know if its an advancement in tech that they need for more immersion into the game world or that they just need to find a whole new formula for MMOs but its clear that something needs to change.

take Imodium AD, best OTC drug for the runs.
Yeah. Great idea. Let's stop the body's ability to purge the virus and instead let it fester in the bowel. I rarely prescribed Imodium to my active duty patients, and when I did, it was for prolonged diarrhea and when the patient couldn't keep up with rehydration. I have diverticultis and have used Imodium on several occasions. I have also used it under my physicians direction for when I had the flu. It has never constipated me, it has firmed things up. While it does slow down the process, you still evacute so no it doesnt cause the virus to fester in your bowels. On top of that, I figured that Harpua would have enough common sense to check the label and see if Imodium was not for him. As far as dehydration, harpua had already mentioned he was taking steps to rehydrate. Based on my physicians advice and my own personal experience I still dont see a problem with the recommendation. Still if you honestly believe that you purge a virus through shitting, then I can understand your confusion. And here I thought the body created anti bodies called Phagocytes that attack, consume and destroy the virus. I guess Ill have to talk to my doctor about that one because clearly he is misinformed!

Hopefully youre feeling better. The problem with your symptoms is that there are a ton of things that can cause them from the aforementioned virus to food poisoning. If the problem is reoccurring then it can be something more serious and if thats the case, go see your physician asap. Trust me on this one, I speak from experience.

Just watched it myself. OK, not great. I liked Macguires Spidey a lot more then Garfields. The kid may have looks but his acting was IMHO the weakest part of the film. Too much angsty brooding. Stone's Stacy was excellent, which made Garfield look even worse by comparison. The movie itself, seemed like it wanted to be a hybrid of The Dark Knight and The Avengers in style and thus seemed uneven. The special effects were done quite well and Lee's cameo was definitely his best. Bottom line, the movies worth watching but it wasnt as good as either Raimi's Spiderman 1 or 2

DUI covers driving under the influence of any drug. The system already has it handled. People do get thrown in jail while doing so. The police are trained to recognize the influence of THC as well as that of alcohol. Im not sure what else they could do beyond setting up urinalysis roadblocks.

Users are losers, legal or illegal?! Stay classy ATB.
My sister fought cancer for the better part of 2 decades. During most of that time she smoked legal marijuana to help offset the pain and nausea, that poisoning her body with chemo-therapy to survive, caused. She is an intelligent, vibrant, hardworking mother of three, with a loving supportive husband. I find the implications of your "poll" very offensive. Seriously, do you ever think of the implications of the things you post prior to typing? To be honest, after what my family has gone through, I would be hard pressed not to knock you on your ass if you said something like that to me in person. You really need to start keeping your bigotry and prejudice to yourself.
I'm very sorry to hear that. Unfortunely there are many situations like your sisters.I can certainy see your point, but I do not believe there was ill intent involved here. Thanks for that Harpua. Unfortunately while my sis has achieved full remission and is now cancer free, other family members have not been as lucky, which may explain my rather strong feelings on the matter. As far as ATB, I would love to give him the benefit of the doubt except for two things. He has a history of posting in an inflammatory manner and then claiming innocence or ignorance and after his reply to me, well you can see how I can doubt his "innocence" when posting. I dont mind the shots he took at me, I can take it and in fact coming from a person like him, I can even feel somewhat honored to earn his bile. Categorizing my sisters cancer, a disease that effects millions, as a random circumstance just shows how ignorant he truly is. He is the kind of person who makes me hope that karma is real.

Our toilet tank leaked and flooded the entire place within a month of us moving in. We still had a bunch of stuff still in boxes when it happened. State Farm had a crew over there to take care of all of the damage and wrote us a check within a few days. I was very pleased.
Ill toss out a for State Farm as well. I had my main sewer line break and it flooded my finished basement. State Farm was great to work with, they even pointed out some claimable items that I missed on my first submission that got me around $1500 more than the original claim. I did see a raise in my rates the next time they came due but the claim for my basement and plumbing came up to over 20k so a $100 annual rate increase doesnt bother me so much.

regarding the comment that filing claims is bad. Yes it can be. If you have a small claim, its often best to not file because filing a claim almost always triggers a rate increase on your next renewal. Also, many companies have a maximum allowable number of claim filings and can cancel your policy for hitting that max. For example my brother in law filed 3 claims in a year and a half. That got his policy cancelled. Two of the claims were small ( less than $750, combined ) the third was a larger claim. All three were due to storm damage. As soon as the third claim was closed and paid they cancelled his policy. In the end it worked out though as he got re-insured at a lower rate.

Curious as to how things are going to turn though as the shows 2 creators have declined to renew their contracts and have left Hell on Wheels. They may be around for consulting but they are working on major network stuff now, so its doubtful they will have much input. They kept the episodes at 10. Thats not necessarily a bad thing as they kind of rambled last season and maybe they will tighten up the series and condense the story line a bit and try to eliminate some of the filler they fell back on so often last season. My prediction for next season :

Frankly, Ive never understood the over the top gushing about this game. Nothing they've done was really all that innovative. They basically streamlined WoW and made some quests "world events" that actually dont change anything and eventually reset. There are nice things about it and it is a fun game. If youre into MMOs that emulate single player games then its worth getting. Still, its really the same old stuff with a few adjustments. Im not saying its a bad game, its not but people were saying how it was going to turn the MMO genre upside down and set it of fire and I just dont see it.
The thing is...GW2 isn't a huge innovative game. But it's a game that took so many little things and made them better. Want to group? You're not really penalized and you get a slight bonus. Want to play solo but help out world quests and bosses? No problem and you get credit and rewards even coming in the middle of it. No kill stealing, no crafting node stealing and crafting that gives adventure xp while being useful. And those are just of the changes...you also have things like changing your dye colors anywhere at any time, easy weapon and armor skinning and no class or race restrictions. Not to mention things like every class being able to heal (or have the option to heal) and rez other players. Every single one of these things has been a complaint of mine in the past and evidently for many other people. So no, it's not the next coming of the MMO but they took most modern AAA MMO's and added a ton of polish and fixes to it which results in a lot of over the top gushing. Have there been new, innovative MMO's in the past couple years? Yes, but (very) few of them are still in business and running. Yep, thats basically it. Like I said in my post, GW2 is not a bad game, its definitely worth the price of admission. There are many very good streamlining ideas and they implemented things smoothly. In the end, though its still your basic MMO. It may have seemed like Im bashing GW2, but Im not. Im just pointing out that people expecting the next great thing are actually getting the same thing in a nicer package. Ive recommended it to several friends with just that description.

What a bitch Verlander is. Glaring at his coach and laughing when he came out to the mound as he was losing the game..."what are you doing here?" Looks like he reads all the overblown press about him.
PANDA-monium tonight! What an awesome win!!!! GIANTS!!!!
Youre wrong about Verlander. Hes a competitor, not a bitch. If he was a bitch, he would have nailed panda in the head with a 100 mph fast ball. As far as the overblown press, just because you beat him this game doesnt mean a thing, if he was unhittable he would win 30+ games a year. The best pitchers in the league all have off games ( see CC Sabathia ) the good ones shake it off and come back strong. If you truly think hes overblown, ask any GM in baseball whos the 1st pitcher in the league they would anchor a staff with. ESPN already did and JV was almost an unanimous choice. The Giants are playing great baseball and Sandoval had a monster game but its a long series and 1 win isnt the end of things. Be careful how you gloat, the baseball gods can turn on you rather quickly.

Wrong forum, ATB. Religious trolling belongs in the "Political / Religious Nonsense" forum. I'd rather you not insult everyone (and yourself) with that crap here, but I can only speak for myself.
Lets not have a double standard here... There's plenty of times where anti-religious jokes/pic were posted in this thread throughout the years. Moliere & Ceekay comes to mind. What double standards? I don't recall seeing any such jokes/pics, nor did I post any myself. That somebody else posted that kind of BS in this thread when there's a dedicated forum for it neither excuses ATB's post nor makes me have double standards. ATB honestly managed to seriously piss me off with his post (and I'm not even an atheist!), so please excuse me if I'm being a pest. It doesn't matter how much comedy you sprinkle onto religious intolerance. It's never going to be funny anyway. Just because you didn't see it, doesn't mean it didn't happen. Never said you posted any, just saying there's plenty of times were I and many others who are Christians saw similar types of posts which were offensive. But that's where it goes, in this thread. If you don't like that, then you should probably stay out of it. With that said, I think both sides should be sensitive to other's beliefs. My only problem with the post was that it was neither humorous or clever in any way. It was insulting and meant to be reactionary. Im not an atheist, so it doesnt insult me personally. Prejudice and intolerance do, though. I generally dont speak out on this subject because it is such a sensitive issue but if you want your personal religious views to be respected, try respecting others. That, of course pertains to posts that are derogatory or inflammatory towards anyone's personal religious standing.

Today is an awesome day. The Tigers are in the World Series!!!!!! What an incredible performance by the Tigers starting rotation. Going back to the start of the playoffs, for the time since they started recording earned runs 100 years ago, a starting pitching rotation went 7 games in a row without giving up an earned run in the first 5 inning of a game. The starting pitchers combined ERA is 1.02 with 66 strike outs over 62 innings pitched and opposing batters had a combined .162 batting average against them. They gave up an average of 3.8 hits per game. If the Tigers can continue this unheard of dominance thru the World Series, they will be unbeatable. Go Tigers!

after 2 episodes, it definitely seems that they are going for a much darker tone and they are not shying away from death and violence either. Its been entertaining enough to stick with. My only complaint is that they keep showing gratuitous shirtless scenes with the male lead but fail to give fair and equal treatment to the female lead. I thought this was an equitable society! We need gratuitous shirtless scenes of that hot female attorney as well!
