This is my first tablet but I'm sure my PC laptop got hotter than my iPad, I have yet to play games for any length of time on it (come on Balders Gate) but videos haven't caused that much heat IMO.
If only you got an android tablet: http://www.gemrb.org/wiki/doku.php?id=startSkyLander smugly smirk as he Ctrl-V's the link into the text box of his little post. "Make him wish he hasn't bought an fruit product, that will!" he thought gleefully as he clicks the Post button. What is unknown to him is, right within the very link he pasted into his post, is a tidbit that reveals that GemRB is compatible with iOS.

I use the smart cover only. With my first gen one I didn't use anything.
I'm using a smart cover, but think I need to upgrade to something a little more sturdy. I live in constant fear of dropping this thing on it's corner and seeing the screen shatter (like my iPhone did). I'm using a Smart Cover ($20 for a red leather one on eBay, **** yeah!) and LOVE it. I slip the iPad (with the Smart Cover) in my Incase sleeve that I bought for the original iPad. Works great! Plus if I drop it, I get a new iPad for $50. Win!

Do you guys think the Apple Care extended warranty stuff is worth bothering with? I agonized over that question, too. I didn't have it for the original iPad and my iPhone 3GS. No problems with iPad, but wished I had it with the 3GS. So I went ahead and got it for my iPhone 4S without question. The iPad? Was a hard one, but I said screw it and went ahead. Might be a waste of money. Might be *very* glad I had it. Could go either way.

I really, really doubt this. But it's plausible, due to Apple's massive scalar muscles. But nonetheless, I really doubt this. It'll be faster + retina display, that's it. But I'll be pleasantly surprised if I'm wrong.

Dunno, with the iPad 1, I pre-ordered it so it was a stop-by-and-buy-it-at-1-PM-in-the-afternoon-along-with-a-lot-of-dashes thing.
For the iPhone 4S, I just showed up at a store at about 10 AM, got in the line and waited for maybe 20 minutes. Sipping free Starbucks coffee.

Based on recent trends (the last year), I think it's likely that Apple will release the iPad 3 a week or two after the announcement, not months.
And unless you're talking about the screen, don't hold your breath on being blown away - aesthetically it (likely) will look almost exactly the same as the iPad 2.

They talked about Season 6 (which I just finished), about its darkness and how even Sarah felt a need to come to Joss and seek a change, feeling that she had 'lost the hero'. I thought it was too bad that no mention of 'Normal Life' came up, that one really stuck with me. I think we're past spoilers here, but just in case: Off to season seven... Shit, yeah, that episode disturbed the shit out of me, too. BTW, any mention of returning to the Buffyverse? (And no I'm not talking about ***ing comics).

With all the talk about the resale value, I'm curious what the size of the secondary market is... With the rate of obsolescence in computers, it can't be that large...
Yeah, see, Macs kind of buck that trend. While I know this isn't exactly unheard of in the PC world, the fact of the matter is that the machines are engineered to work very well with the software. OSX doesn't have to support a billion different hardware configurations like Windows or Linux does. Every Apple laptop I've owned has worked exceptionally well for around 4-6 years, easy. Additionally, even older Macs are extremely capable when it comes to music and video editing and production. Yep. My iMac is more than 3 years old now, and I was happy to see that it's still supported under Mountain Lion, which means I won't be upgrading for another year at least. Hoping I'd get 5 years out of this thing, which is looking likely. Well, unless the optical drive decides to die - again (died twice already - thank god for AppleCare). More money for the iPad and iPhone! Hmmm...unless they have a very aggressive trade in plan, I still think I can hold out.
My trade in plan last year was selling my iPad 2 for about $400 on Amazon before the iPad 2 came out. If the iPad3 indeed has the same size screen at a higher rez, I'll be doing the same thing. Yep. Sell a month before, then buy the new one. Though for me it was the original iPad this year (sold for $340). IMO, upgrading every year is silly.

I got an associates in computer science and went right into the job market as a programmer. Started out on the low side of the salary scale, but now I'm doing great for myself and my family.
Sorry to take this thread slightly off-topic, but could you give me a tip or two? I'm also in community college working towards a A.S. in computer science (as a sort of a "plan B"). Ultimately I'll go into a 4-year university and get a B.S., but I'd like to get a job and work for a year or so to earn some money to pay towards school. How did you get a job right out of community college? Where did you look?

I think the Kindle Fire is actually a pretty good fit if you're mainly looking for movies, books and games. Those are sort of it's strongest points (the weakest being browsing online or magazines on the smaller screen, IMO). And it's relatively cheap compared to other tablets as well.
It's a bit of a stretch to call gaming one of it's strong points. But watching movies and reading books, yeah. It'll do the job decently enough. But, shit, it's only $200. Just buy it, and if she finds she likes the tablet form factor and wants some more oomph, she can buy the iPad later down the road.

You do realize that you can get one at Wal-Mart for around $5 (for a 2GB). If I had a spare I'd drop it in the mail but I don't have any available anymore.
Yeah, I found a 8 GB one for $4.44 on Amazon. So nevermind

Whatever you call 'em - flash drive, thumb drive, USB drive - I need one.
It needs to be cheap and reliable. I don't care what size it is - that free flash drive you got at the convention and never use? Toss one my way!
All I require is that it's working 100%. No flaky ones!

One final bump before I put this on eBay today.
I'm open to offers!
Offers? Oh yes fellas, I'm open to offers. I only want cash, but if you got them in the form of gift cards (Amazon, Apple, etc), I'm perfectly fine with taking them.

I'm looking to sell my iPad. It's the original generation 16 GB iPad, Wi-Fi only model. It's in excellent condition, with a few minor scratches and scuffs along the edges (on the aluminum). The glass is perfect.
It comes in the box with all the original packaging and accessories.
I'm also including a case (pictured below).

I bought the original on the Mac App Store on a whim when it was on sale.
Only to find out that it brings my 2008 iMac to its knees. I can barely play it at all.
Maybe someday when I get a new iMac I'll re-download it and give it a try.

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / GT iOS game tournament?
|
on: December 19, 2011, 12:38:44 AM

Saw this on another forum and thought it could be fun. How about we set up a double-elimination tournament here based around an online-based iOS game? We would have brackets, etc, and set deadlines for the opponents to face off against each other and post the results here. The game could be Street Fighter IV Volt or Kard Combat or something like that. Something popular so that not too many of us would be forced to buy new games to participate What do you guys think?

I'd like to dive into some good graphic novels.
Unfortunately the series mentioned here seems to be the "going forever and have dozens of writers" type.
I'm looking for a good, deep and *self-contained* graphic novel that has a beginning, middle and end. It's okay to be long (hey, I endured through all the Wheel of Time books so far!), but I want it to have a ending, and have one author behind it.
So... any recommendations?

Was anyone able to pick one up from this out of nowhere Ebay $99 fire sale?
I found out about it at roughly 6:58pm EST by accident. Rushed to get on ebay and pulled up HP's page, they were still showing as $599.99 for the 32GB model. Put in 2 in the buy box, and kept refreshing until 700PM rolled around. At 700pm - price drops to $149.99. Clicked buy it now. Page loads.. loads.. and loads some more. Then it times out. Hit back, hit 2, buy it now, unable to find item or this item no longer available for sale. Pull up the 16GB model, enter 2, buy it now, it times out also.
Repeat again, 2 ebay pages pulled up, one for the 16GB and one for the 32GB - finally the 32GB goes through, takes me to the "You're not done.." yet page, click pay with paypal, then says sorry this item has sold out.
Needless to say this was a headache of an experience. I walked away empty handed despite the fact that I was there at 700PM on the dot. Hopefully someone else had better luck than I did as these touchpads go as fast as CeeKay through his BBW play toys.
Same exact experience here. I wonder how *anyone* got through. It's a sham, I tell you.

I'm not a wolf. What more can I say? You'll bring yourselves one more step to losing if you hang me. You guys have 3 more days to find the wolf (including this one). Don't waste it on me. 'Sides, would a wolf be so blatantly suspicious? You should see my other games here. I'm always suspicious, except when I'm a wolf.

2. Purge 3. Cragmyre 7. ravenvii - that's friendly old me, not a wolf. Not at all. 9. theohall 10. Bulletpig 11. Soulchilde - cleared by seer, not a wolf. 12. pr0ner
So that leaves five people. There's only one wolf left, and four innocents.
Not sure about this, but I think the hunter should reveal himself - it helps to narrow the list down to 4 people and Soulchilde will probably die tomorrow so the wolf can quickly eliminate a "safe" player from the list, so we'll be in the same place tomorrow if the hunter won't reveal himself until tomorrow. Might as well do it now.
