I've never understood the need to monitor your caloric intake to this degree or to know exactly how many steps you've taken in a day.  Does this information somehow make you lose weight?  Don't most people who are trying to keep fit have a general idea of whether or not they've consumed too many calories or not exercised enough?
However back to the Vessyl.  This seems like a pretty big waste to me.  Most of this information is already on my fitbit page (not to mention the side of the damn can).  They have a huge database of food you can look up already and it auto inputs everything for you.  I drink a can of soda, I just add it on the page and all the nutrition info is already there.  It is definitely NOT worth $200 to me to have a cup save me that 5 minutes of time.

It's $100 now smile

And re: measuring, I present Soylent.
Also what I'm learning, if you want to be healthy , the only drink you should be putting in your body is water.  That's a pretty easy drink to track...

Again, Soylent.

I don't get it, I know what I am drinking. If I need nutrient info I just look at the package. Sure it's neat, I just don't understand what it's supposed to do for me.

It keeps track. Surely you know what a hassle it is to track, either mentally or manually, all the calories and nutrients you drank throughout the day or week?

44  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Vessyl on: August 05, 2014, 11:03:05 PM
What do you think of the Vessyl? All kidding about $200 cups and reading labels aside, this is a really cool tech -- it basically knows what you put in the cup, and knows what you drank. It also tracks how much calories, nutrients and water you consumed. Hard to believe they can achieve this.

Going to be perfect with Soylent!

yeah, I've never understood the drive to buy a phone full price either unless you travel out of the country a lot.  Otherwise, you pay the same monthly rate I do as a subscriber but paid more for your phone.  I know it's due to the companies not wanting to cut profits though.

Actually, I use a out-of-contract phone and paying $35 per month for unlimited everything. Is that the same price as your in-contract plan?

I generally keep my phone for 3-4 years, so it balances out in about 20 months, then it's pure savings after that.

Prior to taking Calculus:
Work through Practical Algebra and its follow-up, Geometry and Trigonometry for Calculus, by Selby. Those two are simply amazing books that will get you completely up to speed, with a deeper understanding than you thought possible.

Then during taking Calculus:
Make use of those resources: -- this will take you though approximately 2/3 of the class with amazingly simple and understandable explanations of the concepts. You should also buy his Humongous Book of Calculus Problems -- it was immensely helpful for me in Calc I and II. -- Paul's Online Math Notes. Also an indispensable aid for all my Calc classes (I, II and Multivariable).

You'll thank me later.

Seeing that it was cancelled after the second season, I'm wondering if it's worth watching?

I have a Dell U2413 monitor. I'd like to connect my PS2 to it.

Unfortunately, unlike older Dell monitors, it doesn't have component input. However, it has a HDMI input, so I'm wondering if any of you would recommend a HDMI cable for the PS2? I know VGA most likely won't work because it only works with games that support progressive scan.

Do you have a PS3 and/or a good gaming PC.  Basically trying to figure out what level of exclusives to recommend.  Red Dead Redemption is the standout console exclusive game having no PC version, but if you had a PS3 you could have played it there for instance.

Gaming PC: an fairly capable one.

PS3: nope. Will move on to that once I'm done with the 360.

I'll reiterate the above that iOS 7 works great on a 4S.

I didn't upgrade my iPad 3 though. Probably won't until they fix it.

I don't just mean fix the performance -- iOS 7 makes the iPad even more like a blown-up iPod touch.

More candid feedback:

1) Get rid of the social media crap in the top bar. Or make it smaller. Otherwise it looks like shit for people who don't let the browser window take up the whole screen; the social media stuff wraps, making the bar double-sized.

2) Links to ZergNet? Tacky. Actually clicked a link thinking it's a link to another article on the size. Ended up on ZergNet. Hope you guys get paid dearly for those.

This is why someone has made a movie viewer for the Oculus Rift where you're sitting in a theater, watching a movie on the big screen. In other words, the Rift isn't good at showing movies, but it's excellent at simulating that you're watching a movie through some other device. According to reports, the experience of watching a 3D movie this way is considerably better than being at an actual cinema because the Rift doesn't have to actually follow the laws of physics. Blacks can be black, sound doesn't have to come from physical speakers (in the simulated world obviously), and 3D can actually pop out of the screen. I can even imagine 3D popping outside of the frame if it's made for the Rift in the first place.

Holy shit you guys, the more I read about this thing the more excited I get about it. I can't wait for Q4 2014.

The problem with that is that Moriarty is dead in the official canon. Sure, there's plenty of unofficial material that has resurrected him in one way or another, but I'd rather this movie ignored anything beyond Doyle's work (with the exception of the book this is based on, of course).

I clicked the "canon" text thinking it's a link to information about Sherlock Holmes canon (and hence Moriarty's fate in said canon).

But turns out it's an ad link for Canon.

Those ad links suck. I do not approve.  thumbsdown

EDIT: And for the record, the two links in my own post above is likewise an ad link, so don't bother clicking it either.

Yeah - I know...

Every now and then I'll reduce down to one a day but it never lasts.  I can't stand coffee so diet soda is my main source.

I'll have 1-2 cans or one bottle in the morning to help wake up. Usually at least a couple of glasses at lunch, then another 1-2 in the afternoon to make it through the afternoon. Then another couple of glasses with dinner. And sometimes one or two more at night while working.

And I thought when I drank a bottle a day for a year back in college was bad...

Nowadays I have 2-3 cans a week. A can is the perfect size for a serving for me -- a bottle is too much and I'd usually leave it 2/3 empty, and when I get around to finishing it, it's flat.

Cans FTW.

And screw all that diet/zero crap. Regular FTW. No carcinogens. 180 calories doesn't make a difference, at least for me.

ARGH! I got all the friggin' upgrades, all tanks and all that shit. 100%.

I slew the Boost Guardian and the Spider Guardian with little problems.

But this, RIGHT before finishing the stupid thing, I'm completely stuck on the Emperor Ing.

Sometimes the tentacles would be above my head -- can you believe how SLOWLY Samus looks up?!

And once you get rid of those, a shielded orb thingy reveals itself. I'd try to shoot it with a Super Missile. I'd hit it IF I'M LUCKY, but mostly I'd miss. Then more tentacles would come out, and more damage would occur.

After a few cycles of this, I die.

Do I just completely suck at this game or what?
