1801  Non-Gaming / Trading Forum / Looking for Warhammer:Dawn of War on: February 18, 2005, 08:51:05 PM
I have Dawn of War, boxed and complete. New.

I'd like Doom 3 and Far Cry for it.

1804  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / DVD Tuesday - 2/15/05 on: February 16, 2005, 12:30:50 AM
Angel Season 5 for me too. This made me sort of sad too... The last of the Buffy/Angel universe. No more seasonal DVDs to watch forwards to. Or new seasons for that matter. finger you, WB!!!

I was hoping they'd include both the director's cut and the original versions of Donnie Darko. Guess I'll go ahead and get the original, unless the director's cut comes in a fancy DVD case... Yep I'm a major sucker for those...

And to you who think Donnie Darko is overrated,

1807  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / [Martial Artist List] Declare your style and rank on: February 03, 2005, 04:39:07 AM
Anyone here from New York? Any dojos/studios they'd recommend? I've been looking into martial arts on and off the past two years (I'm lazy, and it's hard to go searching during I'm at school and all). But if I get a good recommendation, I might actually get serious.

(Oh man I'm so tempted to make a joke post, but I won't ;P)

And NO I'm not selling my copy! Hands off!
1809  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Queued Downloading Sites - Any? on: February 03, 2005, 12:15:11 AM
I wonder why no one has ever thought to make a site that provides all files only through BitTorrent (to get rid of the bandwidth issue) and have a Google-like search system (or even use Google itself). All in a minimalist, fast-loading layout. Boy how that'd rock.
1810  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Just bought an N64.. on: February 03, 2005, 12:09:34 AM
Yeah GoldenEye is FAR superior to Perfect Dark. It stands as one of the greatest shooters ever made, while Perfect Dark does not.

But nonetheless, if you want to try Perfect Dark out, I have a copy, including box and manual. If you want it, drop me a PM. I'll give it away for practically nothing.

(unique sales pitch, eh?)
1811  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Why cant I get back into PS1 RPGs? on: January 22, 2005, 03:06:38 AM
Ah, the memories playing FF VII. I played that game endlessly back in the day, levelling up, levelling up the Materia, racing Chocobos to get the gold Chocobo, playing with Materia combos until I perfect one that could kill the Emerald WEAPON without me even touching the controller. That was one GREAT game, man.

Same with FF IX, although I didn't play it as extensively as I did FF VII.

FF Tactics is a bastard to learn and get into. But oh man oh man the rewards are un-****ing-believable.
1812  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / WWF and WWE Wrestling Games on: January 21, 2005, 06:18:51 AM
Hey, hey, hey!

WCW vs. nWo World Tour - WCW/nWo Revenge - WWF Wrestlemania 2000 - WWF No Mercy

This lineage represents one of the greatest games ever to grace a console. And it came to a climax with WWF No Mercy. Great. Est. Wrestling. Game. E. V. E. R.

1815  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Metroid Prime... Grrrrr *spoilers* on: January 13, 2005, 05:19:12 AM
Well, I finally beat the b*tch tonight. Man she put up a good fight, I only have half a bar of energy left when I delivered the final Phazon Beam.

Now that Samus Aran... I'd hit it.
1816  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Metroid Prime... Grrrrr *spoilers* on: January 12, 2005, 12:32:53 AM
All right, I managed to become fairly proficient at beating Prime's first form. I typically finish her with about 1/3 of my health remaining. The key is those homing missiles. When you see Prime shoot those off, FORGET EVERYTHING and focus on those two missiles and hit it with everything you've got. Once you get that, Prime is actually not that hard. Another thing is: forget about your damn missiles. This is the last time you'll ever use it, so ABUSE the wavebuster and the ice spreader!

But the second form keeps kicking my ass. What the **** am I doing wrong? I keep losing her in my sights because if I keep her locked in my sights, I can't see the ground, and thus can't find the phazon puddle. But if I look away and look for the puddle, she WHOOPS MY ASS! Arrrgh
1817  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Metroid Prime... Grrrrr *spoilers* on: January 11, 2005, 08:59:16 PM
I'm at the very end of Metroid Prime. I'm at the last boss in fact.

And she's HARD. And pissing me off. Omega Pirate? Child's play, I blew hom away with half my health remaining, on my second try. Only reason I died the first time was because I didn't understand how to damage him at first. Meta Ridley? He was a wuss, owned him on my first try.

But Metroid Prime? Everyone claims that Ridley is harder than Prime. THEY'RE LYING. The furthest I got is to the fourth room (where he starts to change colors randomly). And I hear there's ANOTHER form of Prime RIGHT after that exoskeleton!

GOD HELP ME!

Nah, it'll have a screen... it'll be the same width as the iPod mini, but two lines shorter. And it'll be 1-2 GB, starting at about $150. It'll be announced at MacWorld San Francisco on Tuesday at Jobs' keynote.

1821  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Windows XP tweaks for performance and stability? on: January 01, 2005, 06:10:14 PM
I'm installing Windows XP on a low-end system for a very illiterate user. I want to slim Windows XP down to improve performance, and tweak it so that it can stand up to abuse a bit longer. I've not delved into Windows for almost 2 years now, and have gotten behind on all the new tweaks, and forgotten the old. So can anyone give me a checklist of what I should do?

1823  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Windows 98 or Windows XP? on: December 31, 2004, 11:38:19 PM
I got this built low-end system, seems to boot fine. Now it's time to install Windows on it. But which Windows? On one hand, the system only has 256 MB of RAM, so XP will probably run like a dog on it. But on the other hand, the person who'll use this is a total computer illiterate, and will probably get a million viruses and malware on his first day, and Windows XP has more protection again those... At least a bit more idiot-proof. He's connected to the internet by a cable modem, and nothing else - no firewire or anything. XP comes with a firewall doesn't it? Understanding Ad-Aware and Zone Alarm, is beyond this user. So what do I do? What software do I install before handing it over to him? Preferably software that runs in the background, that he'll never realize is there.

I would've just told him to get a Mac, but it's way out of his price range.

1831  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Holy ****, does Max Payne ROCK or what?! on: December 29, 2004, 04:52:15 AM

You liked the 'dream' level, too?

Well, they're not as bad as I heard, I did enjoy the parts when you are walking around "Max's house", infused with other things you saw during the same. The surrealism and wackiness is awesome. But the maze and the follow-the-blood-trail, oh did those suck the big one. But they're such small part of the game they don't really detract from the game as a whole.
1832  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Holy ****, does Max Payne ROCK or what?! on: December 29, 2004, 02:23:18 AM
I don't even remember when I got this gem, sometime last year in a GG trade maybe, I'm not even sure. Whenever it was, it was a while ago. I put it aside in a pile of games that "I will get around to later". Well, I decided to install and fire up Max Payne last week because I am cleaning house, and decided to at least open it and play it a little before I get rid of it.

A week later, I'm at the last level. And I cannot believe what a GEM I had all along! This is a fricking amazing game - super-fun gameplay, super-fun bullet time physics, very cool level design, gripping storylines, unique noir-comic style, this game has it all. I am now tempted to go right out and buy Max Payne 2 right after I finish up with the first. The idea of the Havok physics engine running under a Max Payne game just boggles my mind!

For the few of you who didn't play this game yet, GO GET TO IT! NOW!

I just wish they would port the Havok SDK to the Mac so they could consequently port Max Payne 2. That game is almost literally the only game that kept me from selling my PC.

1834  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Need a little eBay help here. on: December 28, 2004, 10:41:11 PM
Firstly, on the leaving feedback thing, he only emailed me to let me know that he didn't get the item yesterday. I was trying to leave feedback, a positive one, last week because after two weeks, I assumed he got it and he did pay fairly promptly.

As for shipping, I shipped it in a cushioned envelope (it's a college textbook), the addresses are written right on the envelope, so there's no labels to come off. It was sealed securely. I sent it via USPS First Class, I don't have the recipt anymore, because as I said I assumed he got it - in my experience as a eBayer for a while, most people never let you know they got the item. Sometimes they leave feedback, sometimes they don't, that's all I know. I didn't offer insurance/confirmation. The item is $25, so I won't be TOO upset if I ended up having to refund him.

EDIT: just dug through the trash, found the recipt! Now... what do I do?
1835  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Need a little eBay help here. on: December 28, 2004, 09:18:17 PM
Yep, I read it, and he did exactly the same thing to quite a few other people. I also checked the feedback he left others. Same thing.  But I don't know how to combat this.
1836  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Need a little eBay help here. on: December 28, 2004, 04:17:46 PM
Well, the auction ended almost 3 weeks ago, and when I tried to give him feedback last week, I couldn't, seems the time has expired... so I don't think he can leave feedback for me. And checking his feedback, he only had 78%.         So I suspect he's not all that trustworthy. So since the feedback opportunity expired, I can just not give the money back, there's nothing he can do about it...

Ethical? I don't know.

1839  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Mystery game... Can anyone identify this? on: December 28, 2004, 05:43:01 AM
Definitely not Athletic World... The characters are "street" kids - mean-looking, baggy clothes, caps, etc, classic examples of 1990's obsession with rap and black culture, you know what I'm saying? And not realistic either - they're cartoony.
1840  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Mystery game... Can anyone identify this? on: December 28, 2004, 03:11:49 AM
I'm trying to remember the name of this game... It's for either the NES or the SNES, I can't recall. It's a game consisting of various sports games with street-wise kids - I remember one is a swimming game where you fight the opponent while racing - you can jump over to his lane, or swim underwater to his lane. The view is facing the front of the two racers - they swim towards the screen, basically. The other is a street fist fight on a street or basketball court, I can't remember. The other is some kind of throwing contest, but I can't even remember what you're throwing. It came out sometime in the early 1990's.

That's all I can remember... Can anyone identify this game?
