Serbian Film - glad I sat through it but I have no desire to watch it ever again.

I made the mistake of reading a summary of this film once after someone mentioned it as possibly the most horrific thing ever put on film.  Call me a wuss, but I was honestly really shaken simply by reading its summary on a Wiki page.  I can't imagine actually watching it.

I completely agree.  I regret even reading what the movie was about.  I was disturbed by the wiki summary for several days afterwards.  I do not understand why a movie like that should exist.

Jesus H. Christ. Just read the Wikipedia article.

Fuck no, I'm not going to ever watch that movie.

Trilogy? I don't get it. The Hobbit was much shorter than any of the books in the LotR trilogy, and they did one movie per book.

Not saying you should go that route, just saying that can be an option.

Do you have any advice regarding domain names? Would (mylastname).me be fine? ((mylastname).com is taken).

Also, any recommendations on domain registrar?

Hey, you can use an iPhone's 3G connection (tethering?) using a WiFi-only iPad, right? Of course right now I'm still using a 2004 Nokia brick phone so this question is strictly hypothetical. I just don't know anyone who's used one that way and can maybe speak to whether it works OK.

I think my Verizon Wireless contract renewal is approaching, and might be a good time to finally upgrade. God knows I waited long enough.  icon_redface

If you jailbreak it, or you pay the extra 20 or whatever plus a month for tethering which only gets you 2Gig if that.

5 GB, actually. Still a ripoff, though.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess what's going on in this movie right here, right now:

Spoiler for Hiden:
An alien race (the space jockeys) is trying to exterminate all races it considers a potential threat to itself. A signal is sent across the universe to attract those races advanced enough to seek it out. Once they arrive, the aliens do something to obtain the location of their home planet (probably some kind of brain extraction) and then sends a warship laden with bioweapons in the form of xenomorphs to wipe out the entire planet. The crew on the ship sent to seek out the alien signal discovers the plan and desperately tries to stop the ship before it can reach Earth. In the end they deliberately free one of the xenomorphs, which kills the space jockey and crashes the ship on an unknown, barren planet. The survivors then head home and tell their story, which leads directly into Alien, where Weyland-Yutani is trying to rediscover the location of the planet where the ship crashed to obtain the xenomorph for themselves.

Any better theories? smile

Sounds like the gist, but what I don't get is why is the ship so decrepit (hence the nickname given to it) in Alien?

Also, a question.  Is Ridley throwing out the Carl Bishop Weyland stuff?  Is Sir Peter Weyland the new canon?

I don't see a conflict between them. Carl Bishop Weyland could have been the founder of the company, and Peter Weyland one of his progeny.

If they boot the whole AVP thing out of canon, that'll be a good thing. A very good thing.

Got 3 of these tonight, much better than I was expecting. If you break a piece of the shell off it tastes like a dorito by itself. When you add all the other ingredients it does lose some of the dorito taste but I still noticed it.

Not sure it was worth 30 cents extra for a dorito taco shell, but definitely worth a try.

Broke my "never go to Taco Bell" rule today to grab 3 of those. I have to admit, it's not half-bad.

Yep, the official Apple Smart Cover. Black leather. The newer version that Apple modified back in October. Older Smart Covers don't work with the new iPad (won't sleep/wake the iPad), but the newer ones will.

Not perfect condition, it has been used and has a few minor scratches, etc. But functions perfectly.

I'm using a smart cover, but think I need to upgrade to something a little more sturdy.  I live in constant fear of dropping this thing on it's corner and seeing the screen shatter (like my iPhone did).

I'm using a Smart Cover ($20 for a red leather one on eBay, **** yeah!) and LOVE it.

I slip the iPad (with the Smart Cover) in my Incase sleeve that I bought for the original iPad. Works great!

Plus if I drop it, I get a new iPad for $50. Win!

I agonized over that question, too. I didn't have it for the original iPad and my iPhone 3GS. No problems with iPad, but wished I had it with the 3GS.

So I went ahead and got it for my iPhone 4S without question. The iPad? Was a hard one, but I said screw it and went ahead.

Might be a waste of money. Might be *very* glad I had it. Could go either way.

Another more weird rumor about possibly haptic-touch:

*Yes, of course, the mind quickly runs into the gutter about "creative" ways to use that.   drool icon_lol

I really, really doubt this.

But it's plausible, due to Apple's massive scalar muscles.

But nonetheless, I really doubt this. It'll be faster + retina display, that's it.

But I'll be pleasantly surprised if I'm wrong.

Dunno, with the iPad 1, I pre-ordered it so it was a stop-by-and-buy-it-at-1-PM-in-the-afternoon-along-with-a-lot-of-dashes thing.

For the iPhone 4S, I just showed up at a store at about 10 AM, got in the line and waited for maybe 20 minutes. Sipping free Starbucks coffee.
153  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: let's talk tablets on: March 05, 2012, 12:27:10 AM
Based on recent trends (the last year), I think it's likely that Apple will release the iPad 3 a week or two after the announcement, not months.

And unless you're talking about the screen, don't hold your breath on being blown away - aesthetically it (likely) will look almost exactly the same as the iPad 2.

They talked about Season 6 (which I just finished), about its darkness and how even Sarah felt a need to come to Joss and seek a change, feeling that she had 'lost the hero'. I thought it was too bad that no mention of 'Normal Life' came up, that one really stuck with me. I think we're past spoilers here, but just in case:
Spoiler for "Normal Life":
The question of which life is real, all of the crazy things going on in Sunnydale where she is a super-hero and saving the world or a poor sick girl stuck in an LA sanitorium, made for a great episode. After trying to kill her friends to "get better", when she chooses Sunnydale and says goodbye to her mom, they could have left it at that but no, they have to twist the knife by coming back to the sanitorium and showing a catatonic Buffy ("She's gone") before cutting to the credits. So now we the viewers, the fans, get to decide if any of it is real or just the fantasy life of an insane girl. paranoid
Off to season seven...

Shit, yeah, that episode disturbed the shit out of me, too.

BTW, any mention of returning to the Buffyverse? (And no I'm not talking about ***ing comics).

With all the talk about the resale value, I'm curious what the size of the secondary market is... With the rate of obsolescence in computers, it can't be that large...

Yeah, see, Macs kind of buck that trend.

While I know this isn't exactly unheard of in the PC world, the fact of the matter is that the machines are engineered to work very well with the software. OSX doesn't have to support a billion different hardware configurations like Windows or Linux does.

Every Apple laptop I've owned has worked exceptionally well for around 4-6 years, easy. Additionally, even older Macs are extremely capable when it comes to music and video editing and production.

Yep. My iMac is more than 3 years old now, and I was happy to see that it's still supported under Mountain Lion, which means I won't be upgrading for another year at least. Hoping I'd get 5 years out of this thing, which is looking likely. Well, unless the optical drive decides to die - again (died twice already - thank god for AppleCare).

More money for the iPad and iPhone! biggrin

My trade in plan last year was selling my iPad 2 for about $400 on Amazon before the iPad 2 came out. If the iPad3 indeed has the same size screen at a higher rez, I'll be doing the same thing.

Yep. Sell a month before, then buy the new one.

Though for me it was the original iPad this year (sold for $340). IMO, upgrading every year is silly.

I think the Kindle Fire is actually a pretty good fit if you're mainly looking for movies, books and games.  Those are sort of it's strongest points (the weakest being browsing online or magazines on the smaller screen, IMO).  And it's relatively cheap compared to other tablets as well.

It's a bit of a stretch to call gaming one of it's strong points.

But watching movies and reading books, yeah. It'll do the job decently enough.

But, shit, it's only $200. Just buy it, and if she finds she likes the tablet form factor and wants some more oomph, she can buy the iPad later down the road.
