Rollercoaster Tycoon is still a blast. Nothing quite like watching your little peons ride around coasters for days on end.

And puking on the sidewalk after said coaster. biggrin

Yea the rollercoaster tycoon games are classic I own them all and fire them up every once in a while.

One thing that I am noticing when I play is that we need to stick together more.  There have been a couple of times that the commander has sent me, the heavy gunner, out by myself to grab coms.  Sure it is nice to try and flank enemies, but we are starting to get to that point where the AI is loaded with bigger and better guns and will rip you appart if they catch you out on your own.  It is much easier when you have two or three people together working on a hound than just one.  Here is an idea.  If we are going to split up, split up into two pairs of people, (the scout and NA usually do their own thing) like a heavy and a soldier or soldier and defender.  That way the groups can work together and still be able to stategically work with the other pair to flank or assist.  Also we need to ID what we are fighting, heavy gunners/artillary need to be delt with first along with the AI and their stupid Assult rifles.  The scout and NA are good targets but in the world or what will hurt us the most, it is going to be those two groups.  Just random thoughts.  Let me know what you think!!  Oh and I will be on around 8 CST for a couple of hours

Good idea Papasmurff kind of like having a wingman mech lol.

damn that's a lot of fun...very cool game.  i know a lot of people have said it before, but i'm really impressed by how well the game plays...pacing and controls are great.  i'm really surprised at just how simple and intuitive the controls are, while still having another layer of complexity that you start to feel after a few matches.  i might be convinced to pick this one up soon if i know they'll still be people playing online...

I still have it been playing Chromehounds like a crack addict lately though lol but if you wanna play just shoot me a an invite.

I love the idea of being a scout, but the reality is..I like surviving battles more.

It seems like I should be able to scout and light towers and run away from battles, but in actual combat situations, I find that I can't get away quickly enough and end up really badly damaged and then I'm limping along until I get destroyed.  I s'pose I could try smoke and see how that goes.

I'm quite happy being the scout.  Keep going with the lumbering beast and I'll be content to zip around and grab COMBAS and maybe take on their commander.

I have smoke on my scout.  I'm not really sold on its usefulness, especially against the AI.  I found the best defense is just being able to see their ordinance coming and casually step out of the way before turning tail and running.

I gotta go log on now!

I must say that Stiffler does that best job I have seen of someone acting as a Scout

Yea Stiffler does a great job with that scout of his saved our squad more than once when we were in deep doo doo by taking down the enemy base.

i'm currently holding out for the new 1080p 50" Sony Grand WEGA SXRD that is set to hit stores within the next month.  the Sony 1080p currently in stores is a great looking TV, but it doesn't accept 1080p input...the 2006 model will though Cool

I have the 60in sxrd model from last year you'll love it nice picture I also own a 30in sony hdtv I use for the 360 in my den and my son has a 27 in samsung hdtv in his room.

Imo, everyone needs to try doing it so not just one person is stuck with the Commander or Scout role.

I just figured out how to save my hound designs with a little help from turtle last night I'll design a scout as soon as I get on.

Did anyone get the strategy guide with their game?  The book said I NEED THIS GUIDE on the front of it.  Imagine that?!

I saw it in the store as I was picking the game up and paged through it.  What I noticed looked mostly like maps and a metric-ton of equipment listings.  I promptly put it back, thinking to myself that reading it might make my head explode.

Did anyone pick it up and give it a good read through by chance?  Thoughts

I picked it up lockdown it has all the info on all the maps and mp maps and a detailed listing of all the parts you can unlock and enough stats on the parts to make your head spin. smile

How many save games do you have? It seems to get worse the more you get.

I agree with all of Kathode's impressions.  I am impressed with the way they have adapted the game to a console interface.  I am eventually going to play some online matches once I get more comfortable.    That should be ugly.

You might be right I only have 1 save.

Here's my post from that "other" board smile

Quote
I've played through both tutorials and several missions on the good campaign. In short, I really like it a lot. Negatives first - The manual criticism above is definitely true. I vainly looked and looked for the way to set "bookmarks" (basically grouping your troops like you would with Ctrl+number on PC) but it's simply not in the manual. I finally found where it's referenced but all it says is "Play the advanced tutorial to learn this."

The other negative is that the game can definitely bog down performance-wise at pretty much any given point depending on what's on screen. Sometimes it feels fairly random. It's not quite as awful as my first impressions led me to believe but you do notice it.

The positives: The interface definitely works. It's really a totally new gaming type for consoles, at least in that it really hasn't been done well since the days of Herzog Zwei unless there's something obscure out there that I don't know about. Either way, expect it to be fairly unintuitive at first and to have the manual reference page open in front of you for the first hour or so. The basics are that you zoom around the map at pretty high speed with the left stick, and rotate and zoom with the right. Unit selection is done through a combination of the A button and holding another button like the triggers or the bumpers. Hold the left trigger and hit A and you'll select everything on screen. Hold and hit A twice and you select all your available combat units on the map.

The interface is definitely geared toward the "mass army and charge" style of play, which is how I like it so it works well. There are deeper controls available though, like setting up bookmarks for particular groups of units. You can also do things like hold the right bumper and select units to grab all of that unit type on the screen.

Special powers are available to you on a global basis and through individual units, and you access that by holding the right trigger to expand the Palantir menu. You then can quickly navigate through levels of icon menus with the dpad and get to what you want. It gets a bit difficult in large battles to micromanage the individual abilities of your heroes as the battle rages and you're trying to fly through the menus. Thankfully each hero can be set to automatically use their special abilities in battle which helps tremendously.

The game is very pretty for an RTS with tons of special effects like fog clouds and particle effects. Buildings can be upgraded with fortifications and the results are usually represented visually, so you'll see your fortress roll out banners, trick out the walls with trebuchets, or build up special fortifications like stationary Ents or flood walls that can be used against assaults. The wall system is pretty cool too. You can build a hub off your fortress. Then you just select the hub, hold the right trigger, and a wall "stretches" between your cursor and the hub, so you can fortify your town. You can then select an individual section of the wall and trick it out with defenses like catapults, or turn it into a gate that your units can get through.

So overall, pretty good so far. Be sure to get Tom Bombadil. He's awesome. And he sings.

In playing a bunch more the only other thing that has come up is that sometimes it takes FOREVER to save and load.  For some reason it's gotta search for save games each time you bring up the menu, and the searching will sometimes randomly take like two full minutes or more.  A few times I thought my Xbox locked up, and a couple others at work say the same thing.  When you save in the middle of a game, it searches when you bring up the menu, then you save, then inexplicably it searches again.  I have no idea how they passed cert with something like that in the game.

Thats strange my saved games load pretty quickly.

Freaking insane. Sony is too full of themselves to realize that they just priced themselves out of the casual gamer market. The first run of units will sell like hotcakes to the early adopters. They'll buy it no matter what the price. After that, who's going to buy one? I can see parents all over the country telling their kids "are you crazy??" when they get asked to get one by their kids.

Yea I totally agree with you sony = full of themselves I have twin boys leaving for college next year no way I spend that kind of money on a blu-ray player disguised as a ps3.
